Indeed Khabbab b. Aratt is Madhlum despite being so early in Islam even before the prophet began preaching at Dar al-Arqam and was persecuted for it. He could well be the sixth person to enter into it.

There's no doubt that there were offensive wars, but spreading the dominance of the Islamic caliphate's authority is not the same as spreading Islam by the sword. These wars were supported by Jews, Nestorians and Copts, and Muslims remained minorities in the heart of their own civilization for many centuries. There were certain societal pressures put in place that encouraged conversion (taxes, marriage laws, inheritance laws, economic and political opportunities for Muslims), but these conversions were very gradual. Even then, conversions in most cases were really just public declarations of faith, and then you entered the polis as an equal, regardless of religious or ethnic background. Of course there were legitimate grievances that dhimmis had throughout history, especially under the Almohads, but ancient Judaeo-Christian communities existed in large numbers in the Mideast up until the 20th century, while ancient Muslim communities in Spain, Portugal, France, Sicily, and elsewhere were decimated.

Brother @Qa'im, could you shed some light on this? I'm confused now. If Imam Ali was involved in organising the Muslims' army, this is basically like him being a part of an offensive war.

This is what the Prophet had to say about the sahaba:
    Narrated Ibn Al-Musaiyab:
The companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Some men from my companions will come to my Lake-Fount and they will be driven away from it, and I will say, 'O Lord, my companions!' It will be said, 'You have no knowledge of what they innovated after you left: they turned apostate as renegades (reverted from Islam).
    Sahih al-Bukhari
    Book 81, Hadith 174
    https://sunnah.com/bukhari/81/174
Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
"On the Day of Resurrection a group of companions will come to me, but will be driven away from the Lake-Fount, and I will say, 'O Lord (those are) my companions!' It will be said, 'You have no knowledge as to what they innovated after you left; they turned apostate as renegades (reverted from Islam).
    Sahih al-Bukhari
    Book 81, Hadith 173
    https://sunnah.com/bukhari/81/173
Ibn 'Abbas narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:
"The people will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection bare-foot, naked and uncircumcised as they were created." Then he recited: "As we begin the first creation, we shall repeat it: A promise binding upon Us. Truly We shall do it. And the first of people to be clothed will be Ibrahim. Among my companions will be some men who are taken to the right and to the left. I will say: 'O my Lord! My companions!' It will be said: 'You do not know what they innovated after you, they continued to be apostates since you parted from them.' So I will say as the righteous worshipper said: If you punish them, they are your slaves, and if You forgive them, indeed You, only You are the Almighty, the All-Wise."

    Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) delivered a sermon and said, "You (people) will be gathered before Allah (on the Day of Resurrection) bare-footed, naked and uncircumcised." (The Prophet (ﷺ) then recited):-- 'As We began the first creation We shall repeat it. (It is) a promise We have undertaken and truly We shall do it.' and added, "The first man who will be dressed on the Day of Resurrection, will be Abraham. Lo! Some men from my followers will be brought and taken towards the left side, whereupon I will say, 'O Lord, (these are) my companions!' It will be said, 'You do not know what new things they introduced (into the religion) after you.' I will then say as the righteous pious slave, Jesus, said, 'I was a witness over them while I dwelt among them...(to His Statement)..and You are the Witness to all things.' (5.117) Then it will be said, '(O Muhammad) These people never stopped to apostate since you left them."

'It will be said, 'They had been renegades since you left them.' Some men from my followers will be brought and then (the angels) will drive them to the left side (Hell-Fire). I will say. 'O my Lord! (They are) my companions!' He also was a vocal critic of uthman as well
If abu ayyub was traitor to Alid cause he would have collaborated with bishr b abi artat when he raided medina but abu ayyub left and joined Ali in kufa

I hope in part 2 you also include his reply to muawiyah when he was sent as an envoy  by imam.roughly its Something like "my master is most entitled to leadership by his excellence , early sacrifices and close kinship with messenger of God". That reply summarizes the shia ideology in its most nascent stage

what an outstanding article on this great companion.I can safely say this is the most comprehensive biography of Abu Amra in english  ever written. You might want to submit this to "encyclopedia of ISlam", this is serious  scholarship ! For other readers may I also add that sunni scholars ( ibn Hajar, Ibn Athir etc) while not delving into the details of the battle of Siffin have highly praised him as well.

Jazakallah, this is a great read.
I am also curious about the different reports about who remained on the battlefield after the people fled. Sahl bin Hunayf and Abu Dujana are not very spoken of much either by Shi'i today, were also great companions that did not turn their backs to flee at all during Uhud. Imam al-Sadiq (as) said that Abu Dujana al-Ansari will be raised with the 12th Imam who will act as helpers or judges with him. It would be great if there was more information on him.

First of all there is proof that Imam Ali helped with those expanisions, namely the conquest of Persia. Shaykh Al-Korani has talked about this.
Secondly, in our Fiqh there is something called offensive Jihad. Whether that is the exclusive right of the infallible Imam or another person can call it is a different issue, the point is not every war in Islam is defensive. Some are expansionist and offensive.
    Sayyed Subah Shubbar nails it:

Minimalism does not mean you have to live in a tent. Live somewhere that you can afford and you feel comfortable. Just think before you spend your money. If you save money by not buying things you don't really need, you can use that money in better ways.
For many years I would only buy a new pair of shoes when the old ones wore out, mostly because I was poor. Now I have three pair of shoes (casual, walking and dressy) and that's enough for me. You won't find me looking at shoes to buy another pair. Not only I don't need them but looking at shoes in the store is a waste of my time.

Panzerwaffe reacted to Qa'im in Hoor al-`Ayn are not White Chicks
As I have noted earlier, abyad according to the dictionary definitions I have provided is not the same as the 20th century understanding of "white" (i.e. Caucasian people). The reference above does indeed say that their skin would be abyad, but that is probably a reference to the clarity of her skin, purity in youth, and lack of blemishes, discolouration, bumps, wrinkles, and burns. Al-Dhahabi's reference even says "white" means "tawny" (bronze), which is a more Mediterranean complexion. A "hooriya" literally means "a contrasting one", and an abyad person in classical Arabic is someone with fair skin and dark hair. White faces in the Hereafter refers to noor. Pale skin in Arabic is actually musfar and not mubyad.
Either way, the Hereafter is not something you can imagine. You should probably ask yourself what makes you hung up on the colour of the hooriya. I don't see anyone arguing over what kind of wine Paradise would have, but I have angered multiple people over this blog (usually young South Asian and Arab men/boys), which just exposes our community's undue obsession with whiteness. I have seen Muslim girls rejected by their inlaws because of their dark colour, called the N-word, and light-skinned Muslims treated like royalty. I've seen western women treated like war booty. I am very light skinned myself, and I'm given a pedestal in some communities. A very famous speaker whom I will not name brags about his temporary marriages with European women, saying that it was "the Sunna of Imam al-`Askari" (even though Narjis was probably not European). It's really hard to deny that this is a big problem.
