Hello Ali, resident of Karbala
It was Arbaeen, the day of mourning tears
In memory of the captives of Karbala and suffering
At Zainab’s head, broken-hearted by the calamity
Beside the tomb of the severed-headed martyr
Peace be upon you, resident of Karbala
My heart is drowning in grief, O Husayn
The oppression against us has grown, O Husayn
Though the edifice of tyranny has fallen
My stature has been bent, O Husayn
Peace be upon you, resident of Karbala
You said the good should be leaders
They should be brave and show courage
May young men never, on the battlefield
Shamefully show signs of oldness
Husayn is a leader and what a leader he is
You said God would step in
If the house is to be swept clean
You said be patient, your sister
Though forced into captivity
You said alas, and our men
Should remain steadfast and not accept humiliation
Husayn is a leader and what a leader he is
In every street, gathering, and assembly
My head is at the feet of Husayn and Hasan
My father whispered into my ears these words
O beloved child of mine
Remain Husayn-like and die Husayn-like
Husayn is a leader and what a leader he is
With the pure blood of my liver, You purify me
Then make me a devoted lover
Slay me with the sword of love
And lay me in the courtyard of Abal-Fadl
So that my body releases the scent of musk and amber
Husayn is a leader and what a leader he is
