  1. Does anyone here happen to Shaykh Abbas Di Palma from Italy? I've read some of his articles and was to email or something but can't find anything?
  2. Yeah that ones a bit naughty. A lot idioms are rather risqué in there allusions actually, and I know many more but in the name of good taste "I'll give them a miss" Interestingly "loose woman" is the word I typed in or the word that was there when I submitted the post but once it was submitted it came up as that. Must be some anti profanity measure in the programming...fascinating
  3. Jazak Allah Khair for input brother. You certainly seem to have direct knowledge of the Shaykh. What does it mean saying the two shuhadda have the same culture as the Prophet? I don't understand that
  4. I did. It basically gives me a little synopsis of his is all. The book seems very useful though and I'll not worry about it. I'm too new to all this to get involved in concepts of Islamic governance and whatnot. That's not my particular interest anyway
  5. I must say so far I find the book well written and highly useful MashAllah
  6. Ain't got sense enough to pour piss out of a boot
  7. I picked "the Laws of Islam" by Grand Ayatollah Sayyid M. Taqi al-Husayni al-Modarresi. I saw it Amazon and it had good reviews and it was only $15 so I picked it up. When I told my local Imam at the Shia Islamic center he shook his finger and told me to stay away from this Ayatollah. I don't fully understand why...anyone familiar with this book and Shaykh?
  8. I've never run across a Zaydi convert. Most are my experience with Zaydis is Yemeni who used to be Zaydi but are now Salafi
  9. These answers make sense, thank you. I guess I was just seeing if Shia fiqh has crossover dispensations with Sunni mathabs like Sunni mathabs have amongst themselves
  10. The shells are just flying out and over the view of the camera is all. Shell casings can eject a considerable distance
  11. I'm not afraid per se...it's just these things aren't so easy to explain to some, and I'm just exploring my options since I'm new to Shia
  12. There's more than one way to skin a cat
  13. Is it possible to be Shia in belief but follow Sunni in fiqh? I do worry a bit about explaining myself repeatedly to everyone who's known me for years why I'm praying this way now. Especially my children and wife and her family...basically my Muslim family members
  14. One of my favorite that I my kids know well is, "going to see a man about a mule" it's a way of saying none of your business when asked where you're going
  15. As most have said here already, accessibility is number one reason. In my city, Columbus, Ohio, there was no Shia Islamic center until just a couple years ago. And we have probably at least 20 masjids by now...though when I became Muslim 19 years ago there was only 2 maybe. Also when I asked about Shia I was repeatedly told they're not really Muslims and unfortunately that kept me from looking deeper in the matter for years
  16. You don't think this trend is the same in Sunni Islam as well. I've spent many years as Sunni and could find, with a few exceptions, any serious purification of the heart going on. I met many pious individuals don't get me wrong, but Arguing points of fish and Aqida seemed to be a favorite pastime amongst many the religiously minded people
  17. Thank you for your replies. I have started the Tijani book and hope to finish it soon inshAllah. I also read a well written book by a non Muslim lady called, "After the Prophet". Other than a few problematic statements I'd recommend it. Al-Islam.org has also been a great resource, Alhamdulilah. I guess I can start by saying the local Shia Imam did invite me tonight to a commemoration of the martyrdom of Lady Fatima...what can expect there? And I guess by her martyrdom is meant the wounds she received and perhaps eventually died from when Umar broke down the door?
  18. As salamu alaikum, I'm a brother who has a history in Sunni Islam going back almost 20 years, but have fallen away from religion and faith the past few years. I actually fell into total apostasy though I didn't tell everyone that. Ive started to make way back to belief in God, Alhamdulilah...and was close to be baptized a Christian. Then I started looking into Shia Islam, which I had never really given a chance before after being told they're basically kafir, but with an open mind I had look. There I found Shia filling in some points where I thought Sunni Islam weak and also finding in Shia some things I like about Christianity. I have gone to a local Shia Islamic Center and there's a very nice and helpful Imam there but it's mostly an ethnic scene so far. I'm hoping to make some connections here with others who found Shia
