Melatonins great and safe. I don’t know how much youre using, but ive used up to 20mg before and been ok, just a lil tired the next day. I used that amount when I quit using the other stuff I was using and stepped down to 5-10mg per night. The science says somewhere between 1 to 3 mg should be sufficient for people, but not all of us are the same and I found 5 to 10 to be the most effective for me. It doesn't at all help with my constant waking up in the middle of the night, like last night, I woke up every hour for the first five hours. Needless to say I'm burned out as heck today.
Be super careful with the Benadryl, especially if you're taking them regularly and a lot at a time. I used to take up the seven pills per night just to fall asleep, and the next day was literal hell for me because of The Hangover effect, but that's the least of my concerns when it comes to Benadryl. Any of the drugs that have the word "anti" in front of them, like antihistamine anti-nausea anti-anxiety Etc, almost ALL of them deplete the brain of acetylcholine. They have been linked to dementia and Alzheimer's later on in life. A quick google search will turn up many medical journal articles about it. Theyre dangerous.
When I found out the link, I dropped all those drugs. My mother has dementia, and I'm telling you, it's a horror for us as a family to go through, and I have no idea how hard it must be for her personally. All I know is she repeatedly tells me that she wishes she was dead, she wishes life was over, she says life has gone on for too long, and then she asks me if I ever just wish life would end The Dr... put her on medication for this, and it made things worse. I think it's just the fact that someone who can't remember things past 2 minutes, doesn't know where they're at, doesn't recognize people, doesn't understand why things are going on around them, can’t follow converstaions through, and so on and so forth is enough to make a person want to die I don't think that's the kind of thing that's relieved by anti depression meds cuz shes still going to have the same problems ! She repeats everything she says after 2 minutes maximum. Everything. Same questions, same concerns, over and over and over and over and over ad infinitum.  And there's many more problems too, but this isn't  the thread for me to dump all the stresses of having a family member w dementia and the horrors of what thats like..Dementias not a joke, and  I personally recommend getting off of any of that stuff because it's a special kind of hell that none of us ever want to experience.
All I'm saying, is at least dump the Benadryl, esp if it doesnt work. If you've got to take the prescription anti-anxiety meds, then take them in the least amount as possible, or, like sister @starlight said, if the drugs arent working, have yourself reevaluated and get them changed. I know there are antidepressant meds out there that do not cause dementia, I was on one of them once, but whether that particular one would work for you or not is between you and your doctor's and of course, a matter of trial and error. So I'm not trying to scare you by telling this, I'm just giving you some truth about the side effects of some of these meds. I don't know anything about Prozac so I'm not going to speak on that.
Just please be carefull with your brain, its the only one you have.
Oh, one last thing, if you've been taking these drugs readily, like every night, and then you stop, be it slowly or cold turkey, at first,  you're going to have more problems falling asleep than you did before. That's normal.
When I stopped taking the stuff I took, it took me about four or five days before I could finally fall asleep without taking anything other than melatonin.  My sleep is completely jacked up, but eventually I was able to fall asleep w/o prescription meds/benadryl etc. The first 4-5 nights, I didn't get ANY sleep at all, I tossed and turned,  I was a miserable person the next day, so just be on the lookout for that if you do decide to drop these things. Don't just go through a night or two of sleeplessness and then decide you MUST go back and take them again, because then you'll just end up in a never-ending cycle of taking them. You've got to get through the first few nights before you will feel anybrelief and for your body to regain its homeostasis, and essentially, to detox.
Even if the meds aren't working, our brains build get used to having them there, so when we stop, the brain doesn't know what to do and has to start readjusting itself to function without it, so even though the medication is not working for you, there is still the issue of your brain needing to adjust to it not being there.
Everything I said may not apply to you at all, and I sincerely hope it doesnt, but because I don't really know what your usage of these products are,  I'm responding according to the life knowledge I currently have, so I apologize if I have spoken wrongfully.

Salam It’s highly recommended that you read last verse (no 110)of Surah Al-Kahf before sleep & consider the want that you want to wake up that this helped me a lot for not missing Fajr prayer .

See another doctor if possible.Change the medicines if they aren't working. Consider alternate therapy.

yusuf44a got a reaction from shia farm girl in sleep disorder causing me to miss salat
I have circadian rhythm disorder which means that my natural sleeping pattern is off set several hours making 10pm to about 3am the best part of my day. Im sleeping threw sometimes most of my salat periods. I've been told the best way to deal with it is to offset my work schedule to match basically work nights and sleep in the day without trying to treat the problem because there isn't really effective treatment for the disorder. The times for salat are preset I can't change that. I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions about how not to miss salat when you almost nocturnal. I really need to be up in the day for this.

yusuf44a reacted to notme in can I preform a non Muslim wedding
In the United States, there is a court position called Justice of the Peace who is empowered with approving legal marriages. No religious approvals are involved. If it is like this, I know of no prohibition. Hopefully a more knowledgeable brother or sister can provide verification, otherwise I recommend you consult your marja.

I'm asking about the guy that leads prayers and gives sermons. I know that there are ways to become ordained online in the us but how does one traditionally become an Imam according to sharia law. what kind of education and rituals are required if any according to conservative Islam.

It's the Arabic there not allowed to touch. Most non-Muslims as well as non-Arab Muslims and reverts like me don't speak Arabic so you can give them a translated copy without the Arabic

free will allows others decisions to negatively affect you. sometimes God allows you to be tested witch isn't exactly comfortable or fun. also evil exist and does attack you when it can.

    Usually free will.
If I'm mugged while walking down the sidewalk, that's because that thief was as entitled to free will as I am, regardless of whether I'm "good" or "bad". It wasn't my choice, it was someone else's.
Sometimes it's a test. Sometimes it's a natural consequence of our own choices.

yusuf44a got a reaction from notme in how to choose an islamic name for a revert
a part of my identity is that i'm a muslim revert, this part of my identity is large and new. I would like name to indicate who i am better than my current one. but i do understand what your getting at when you say it will cause clashes. My family is understanding when comes to changing my name clashes with my self are more likely. I feel that your identity changes at least a little when you accept a new faith even when just changing denominations. I'd like my name to indicate that change.

Salam as i kknow most of coverts change their first name based on events that happened to them & compare it with islamic stories but majority of them choose popular Sunni  names & rarely choose names of Ahlulbayt (as) like as MAhdi or Ali or Hussain only a few change their names from popular Sunni Names to popular Shia names IMHO i recommend you to choose name of one of Ahlulbay (as) btw at the end it's your choice

My legal first name is un-islamic. when i have the money im going to change it legally. do you have any advise about how to choose a new name. Also i know it's not required but i want to change my sir name and middle name witch aren't un-islamic because just wan't to. i'm also trying to decide on weather to use the anglocized (english pronunciation) or arabic version of names to reduce discrimination, like choosing Joseph over Yusuf or Jacob over Yukob or Moses over Musa
