  1. Arbaeen is still months away, but the works at Mawqibs have to be done now (before summer). Mawqib 219 (Baytul Ghadeer) is putting new English restrooms and other works estimated @ $20,000. There is brother who is willing to match 100%; and so we need to collect $10,000. This is a chance to contribute whatever you can for the services to visitors of Imam Hussain for years to come. So, for English restrooms & other works -Required = $20,000100% match, so goal = $10,000 Please make your contributions @ https://www.youcaring.com/mawqib-219-556131
  2. Thanks for your consideration. I had heard they were already working on engineering and city approvals et al. Will inshallah let you know if I hear anything from them on services required.
  3. Salaams. The cemetery is only for the momeneen (shias) because the momeneen have donated the money for the land and are still donating for development of the place. All momeneen, be it from any of our centers (we have 8 or so in Houston), will be entitled to utilize the cemetery. Overall its an awesome thing which IPF has started. Inshallah we will have our own cemetery and also it will save the community $80 million or so over the life of the cemetery (land costs right now are like $3,000 per grave, multiply that by 25,000 to 30,000 grave sites in Jafaria cemetery) - all for an investment of approximately a million ($300K for land and $500K or so for development) right now. No body is going to paying for the land at Jafariya. There is no concept of buying a burial plot at Jafaria. The land will be waqf (as its already paid for by momeneen). Also, for the other costs (which right now run to about $6,000 per burial to handle the body, digging, closing grave et al) they think those will be lower too as we (momeneen) will be in-charge; and also they will set up burial fund or something for the poor. This is a noble project and we all should support it all we can. Right now they are having the 20-5-5 fundraiser which I think is a very good way of raising funds - each one just pays $20 and asks 5 friends to do the same. https://www.youcaring.com/JafariyaCemeteryFundraiser
  4. This is a unique opportunity for all to contribute to the development of Jafaria Cemetery in Houston, which will inshallah last for generations to come giving us thawaab-e-jaari. Please help the cause and participate in the $100K (20-5-5) challenge - 1. Donate $20+ @ https://www.youcaring.com/JafariyaCemeteryFundraiser 2. Ask 5+ of your dear ones (family and friends) to donate 3. Do this in next 5 minutes Jafaria Cemetery has many salient features and some of which are as follows - -First graveyard fully owned by momeneen (in Houston) -Burials fully per Islamic laws -Community Funeral director -~28mins from Masjid AlRasool AlAkram -~$80 Million savings to the community over the life of the project Visit http://www.jafariacemetery.com for more details. This fundraiser has been organized by Houston2020 (http://www.houston2020.org).
  5. Very nice post. Unity is strength and we all are in the same boat of aliyun-wali-yullah - may we get to salvation. There is an interesting volunteer network started in Houston called Houston2020. Goal of it is to unite all the centers in Houston, by connecting the community. You can get more info on them at www.houston2020.org. Also, they are running a fundraiser for collecting donations for the first graveyard owned by momeneen in Houston - the Jafariya Cemetery (www.jafariyacemetery.org). They are running the 20-5-5 challenge (everyone donate $20, and forward the message to 5 of your near and dear ones, in next 5 minutes). Interesting crowdfunding, giving everyone a chance to participate in amal-e-khair. You can donate @ https://www.youcaring.com/JafariyaCemeteryFundraiser
  6. W/salaam... I have also heard saturday for UK.. couldnt understand how, esp since we are starting eid in some places on thursday!!! I guess its zakaat-ut-taqleed that we have to go through this same exercise of different eid dates every year :(
  7. One more time... One more year... We are going to be having 2 eids... And many in same household... Sad - after fasting for the whole month, we cant enjoy eid as family and community together...
  8. Salaam. I just signed the petition "United Nations and UNESCO - World Heritage Convention : to declare & enforce a ceasefire around the Holy Shrine of Lady Zainab " on Change.org. It's important. Will you sign it too? Here's the link: http://www.change.org/en-AU/petitions/united-nations-and-unesco-world-heritage-convention-to-declare-enforce-a-ceasefire-around-the-holy-shrine-of-lady-zainab?share_id=MmQWFopght&utm_campaign=signature_receipt&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition Thanks! Ali
  9. Marriage is not a word, its a sentence... a LIFE sentence :) Husband to hotel manager: "Help! my wife wants to jump off the window" Manager: What can I do? Husband: Come fast (before she changes her mind), window is not opening!!! Telling a lie is - sin for a little boy art for a lover accomplishment for a bachelor matter of survival for a married man :) Why is love marriage better than an arranged marriage?? B'coz a "known devil" is better than an "unknown ghost" :) A man before marriage is superman after marriage - gentleman 5 years later - watchman 10 years later - spiderman caught in his own web :)
  10. Husband and wife need to talk and (may be) need to seek assistance / seek help. Hopefully its not an addiction. Unfortunately, these things are not discussed in our societies (out of ignorance or belief that we are all not affected by all the things that go on around us??), but this type of addiction could be more like a disease than anything else.
  11. Never heard such a tradition before. Can you please quote reference??
  12. When is eid? Hopefully its the weekend :) If not, then pray on eid and party with friends on weekend :)
  13. Like so many things in life - mutah can be used or misused... Mutah is one of the best solution for so many of the problems in todays society... Unfortunately we dont promote it. There are so many people in our communities who do all haraam - mutah would be such a blessing for them.
  14. salaams.. sis u need to add spice to his life.. if this wasnt an islamic site i would have added details.. idk if u have kids or not.. u surely need to plan date nights out with him - overnight is better... plan a trip to some place 1 to 2 hrs from where u live - preferably a place where the cell phone coverage is bad.. u need to keep him engaged... believe me, u stop trying and leave him on his own - he will do things which u may not want him to do... and no nagging, getting upset or irritated.. i know, its difficult but then u gotta sacrifice somethings in short-term to secure long term.. if u nag / argue, he only moves further away.. he wont give up on paying the bills coz he seems responsible, but dont count on him to love u as he is smart and confident.. difficult to explain, but then "khudi ko kar buland itna, ke har cheez se pehle, woh aap se pooche - bataa tujhe kya chahiye"... good luck!
  15. Salaamz. IMO life in world is mostly logical -> what u sow, so shall u reap. God Almighty has all power to intervene, but why should He? God helps those who help themselves... Sorry, cant type more as am fasting and dont wanna mess it up :)
