  1. It seems a trend for many Muslims to easily labeling as haram on almost anything such as music, sports, driving, riding bicycles, movies, TV, INTERNET including youtube, etc. thus unnecessarily harming health, work and educational opportunities for many, especially for women. Such trend would be a catalyst for attacks on Islamic system as a whole from inside and out if left ignored. In going over how things are ruled as haram(prohibited), let us start with Quran as a source. Ayat can be muHkam or mutashabih. The muHkam /clear verse which can be ‘aam / general, khaas / specific, (amr and nahy)/(imperative and prohibitive), or mushtarak / collective. مشترك Amr(imperative) can be Fard (obligatory by clear textual dalil evidence) wajib(necessary by probable evidence), manduub(recommended), or mubaah(permissible/indifferent). Nahy can be haram or makruh(disliked). So haram ruling is derived from nahy type of MuHkam verse which is absolutely clear by its own. Thus, Quranic source of haram, makruh, mubaah, manduub, wajib or fard ruling is from muHkam verses. Since some of us are subjected to such rulings with real consequences with accompanying execution power of rewards or punishments by rulers, we all must understand the mechanism of the rulings. If the source of such ruling is only from hadith with vague wording with outdated situation, such as allowed traveling distance for women; is it OK to apply the lower standard in deriving hukum than from Quran? Please help me here by correcting me in any part, offering your knowledge in this area of Islamic jurisprudence. Thank you in advance.
  2. Some people reported here that they are afraid of losing faith by listening to music. What kind of weak faith they got? It is important to review and assess why they got such shaky weak faith to begin with.
  3. I guess monad is not aware of "growing evidence that listening to music help stimulate seemingly lost memories and even help maintain some cognitive functioning." Please see the Harvard article I posted earlier, and more links posted below. https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/music-and-health https://www.health.harvard.edu/mind-and-mood/music-can-boost-memory-and-mood Music helps to prevent dementia and even helps people with Alzheimer’s Disease by enhancing memories. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2914108/
  4. Is there any references in shia hadith so we can locate the source to examine?
  5. Being majority is not any proof of fact or truth by itself. If majority is always right, then Sunni would be the right one from that logic. Understandings or beliefs by the majority change over time. So it is individual choice to follow understanding of the majority, or the most powerful of time, or his own reasoning. I personally understand "Idle talks" as fighting words and gossiping other people's business. If you put all music under "idle talks" category but not including movies, animations, novels, cartoons, comedies and chatting, you are not making sense. Maybe he (if he was heard correctly what he meant) referred to the music of that time that he happened to heard ? It is hard to assess the circumstances surrounding the Imam's word saying about music. Did he or any imams ever said that understandings derived from his words or majority of certain selected group's view must be forced on people? It is important to respect other people's right to decide on his own, when not found in MuHkam verse.
  6. Yes, It is fine with me for someone deciding never to listen music in his life, or chose to do things or avoid as he understood for his life. However, problem comes when someone forces others his/her understanding of Quran or hadith.
  7. It is important to know for any women/girls before marriage if fiance is not affected by pervert-like ideas given by bad friends, internet, or other influences that might harm her health. What if he was a serial muta doer who is very unhealthy physically and psychologically? It is essential to make sure he has clean mind and body. Ideally, it is good to have professionally prepared questionnaire for him to answer under oath. Then professionally analyzed. There are many dangerous activities out there that can kill us.
  8. Could you tell me proofs of that Music is haram according to Quran or hadith, exactly? As matter of fact, Music and Dance are proven to prevent dementia and improve memory according to researches. http://neuro.hms.harvard.edu/harvard-mahoney-neuroscience-institute/brain-newsletter/and-brain-series/dancing-and-brain Whenever certain understandings from hadith or Quran harm our health or mind, I would like to examine and analyze where such teaching came from. There is music therapy for autistic children. Music encourages many people going through difficult times. Dancing is good for health and mind. There are bad kind of music and dance but that should not be the reason to ban all of them. There are bad sites on internet, that means internet should be banned altogether? Extremism will always backfire.
  9. Excuse me? What do you mean by that? Please kindly tell us examples under what situations that someone stronger could justify abuses, torture, violence against weaker ones.
  10. Was Allah all alone before start creating? Allah with complete, permanent, non-changing knowledge of what he is going to create would wait before creating? Time is relative concept of order or sequence, some say. Allah is a creator by nature, so Allah would create. Allah al-awwal actually describing causal relationship instead of time difference? Since Allah will not change, Allah would not start having the will to create at some point of time? Created beings exist after Allah wills it with His power with His words based on His knowledge. 7:54 and 11:7 give impression of time frame during Allah's creating. But Allah is not operating within time frame? Please help me here. Thanks.
  11. There are good and bad people in this world, and even bad people become parents. There are many toxic parents who tells wrong things to children and show bad examples. There are selfish and abusive parents who harm or sacrifice own children for their desires. Since no parents are infallible, we can't not blindly obey our parents to follow wrong orders and destroy ourselves. I hope there are hadith or other sources in shia that provide guidance to unfortunate children of such parents. Does anyone have any?
  12. * Correction! * My stance there was to assume innocence unless proven guilty. But especially with opposite gender.. especially with men,,, it might be right to assume everyone as potentially bad unless proven otherwise. And possibility of you being right is higher at the 2nd stance. It would be so ironic when good sisters are trying to learn Islam and good brothers are kindly offering knowledge on Islam,, and they both end up sinning together.
  13. Indeed. Certain things are hard to imagine without actually been there as she said also.
  14. Terminal cancer patient is usually go under palliative care that is "a medical care that focuses on providing patients with relief from the discomfort, pain, symptoms, physical and mental distress to improve quality of life as the priority rather than cure. It is best to have loved ones, family and friends supporting emotionally the individual going through terminal cancer. I wonder if the individual going through terminal cancer should keep their faith and hope up for miracles and cure, if so, how long? And when should he/she accept death and prepare for it spiritually and emotionally?
  15. Normally, city ordinance in many countries has quiet time after 10 PM. Do they make noise beyond such hour? And how many days or hours the noise persists?
