    Your question concerning the reappearance of the Imam of Time can be investigated around four focal points:

     

    First: The signs for his coming are categorized into different groups, one of them being their classification into “certain” and “uncertain” signs: According to some hadiths, five signs are considered “certain” which we will mention them cursorily:[1]

     

    Abu Hamzah Thumali says: “I told Imam Jafar Sadiq (as) that his father, Imam Muhammad Baqir (as) once said: “The emergence of an individual by the name of Sufyani is for sure, the echo of a call from the skies is also for sure, as is the rise of the sun from the west,” he also named other signs that are also for sure.”

     

    Imam Jafar Sadiq (as) completed his father’s words by saying: “In addition to the internal conflict between Bani “Felan” (felan in Arabic means “someone” and is used when the person speaking doesn’t want to directly name someone and here what might be meant by His Excellency is the tribe of BaniUmayyah or maybe the army of evil), the killing of the Nafs Zakiyyah (the pure one), and the emergence and rise of the Qa’im (Imam Mahdi (as)) which in reality is a vow that will without a doubt take place. I (Abu Hamzah) asked: “Can you please explain about the cry from the sky?!” He answered: “In the beginning of a certain day, a caller will call in such a way that each nation will understand what is being said through its own language, saying: “All be aware that the truth is in Ali (as) and his followers!”, and at the end of the day, Iblis (Shaytan) will call out saying: “All be aware that the truth lies in the Sufyani and his followers!”

     

    Here, those who don’t have stable faiths will begin to doubt.”[2], [3]

     

    Second: In order that a person should remain steadfast and have a lasting belief in Imam Mahdi (atf) and to remain unflinchingly adherent to his belief at the end of time, he needs to fight his carnal desires, remember God and trust in God, resort to the Quran and the Ahlul-Bayt (a.s), deepen his relationship with Ahluz-Zikr (people of remembrance) or jurisprudents who are the trustees of the infallible Imams and their successors. That is because during the period of occultation, Satanic temptations and specious arguments increase and the growing material attractions influence and encompass the lives of the entire people. Meanwhile, the number of people who are steadfast in their loyalty to the Promised Mahdi (atf) and the reappearance of the Savior of the World is so few and rare that they, as reported in traditions, have been likened to alchemy:

     

    "By the One Who sent me with the Truth as a Herald of Glad Tidings, those who will remain steadfast in the belief in him in the time of his occultation, they are rarer than alchemy.”[4]

     

    Allamah Amini says in his book, Mahdi, the Just Leader of Humanity:

     

    During the occultation, innovations will appear in the religion, and the ordinances of the Qur'an and the teachings of Islam will be interpreted in accordance with people's likes and dislikes. As a result, many teachings and laws will be forgotten as if they were never even a part of Islam.[5]

     

    Different readings of the religion are the most dangerous means of assault which we face during the period of occultation. When the Imam of Time (atf) reappears, he shall come across some so-called scholars (not idolaters) who interpret the Quran according to their personal reason or opinions (ra'y). Eventually, different readings of the religion become so widespread that all people turn to believe in them.[6]

     

    People, having abandoned the absolute principles and fundamental teachings of Islam, merely follow the outward forms of religion, and regard those to be sufficient. These are the people who, besides the five daily obligatory prayers, the fasting of Ramadan, and the avoidance of external pollution (najasat), know nothing of Islam. They do not regard ethical behavior and moral precepts to be part of Islam. They give no importance to eschewing immoral conduct and make an excuse of not following moral guidelines since there is dispute about the obligatoriness and the prohibitions of certain requirements. They go as far as turning the prohibitions of the law, through trickery, into something permissible. They also shun their responsibility for paying the dues that are imposed by the law on them. In other words, they are engaged in observing the religion according to their desires. Certainly, such a religion would seem new and difficult to these people, and they might not even consider it to be Islam, because they have imagined Islam to be something else.[7],[8]

     

    Thus, with this wrong assumption, a great number of people and even a group of so-called scholars who are apparently religious-minded people stand up against the Imam, reject the truth and real Islam as false and consider their own religion and beliefs as true. In this manner, they deviate from the right path and become disbelievers.

     

    It has been narrated from Imam Sadiq (a.s.) that he said: "When our Qa'im arises he will call people anew to Islam, guiding them to the old thing from which people have turned away."[9]

     

    Third: According to traditions, following the reappearance of the Hujjah of God (Imam Mahdi), Prophet Jesus will offer prayers behind him in the presence of others. It has been narrated from the Prophet (pbuh) that he said: "By Allah Who appointed me as a bearer of good news, if there was one day left of this world, Allah will prolong that day so that my son, Mahdi appears. Afterwards Jesus, the Spirit of Allah, shall come and will perform his prayer standing behind him. Then the earth will brighten up with the Light of God and Mahdi's government shall spread to the east and west of the universes."[10]

     

    Since a great many people make the followers of Prophet Jesus (a.s) and he regard Mahdi (atf) as the savior and global reformer, they, seeing this scene get interested in Mahdi (atf) and start to believe in him. This by itself is one of the causes of the victory of the Imam (atf) in his global movement and rise.

     

    Fourth: In the same way that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) is the last prophet and his religion is the most perfect of all religions, Imam Mahdi is also the last infallible Imam (atf) who with his qiyam (rise) shall bring a great change in the world and shall help mankind attain the peak of perfection, knowledge and the highest level of piety, spirituality and justice.

     

    In regard to the perfection of knowledge, Imam Sadiq (a.s) says: “Knowledge is contained in twenty-seven letters (parts) and everything which all of the (previous) messengers brought was merely two of these letters and until the day (when al-Mahdi makes his advent), the people will not be given knowledge except of these two letters. So then when our Qa’im makes his advent, he will bring with him the other twenty-five letters (of knowledge) and he will spread these among the people and add these to the previous two letters (parts) such that he will have imparted the twenty-seven letters (of knowledge) to them.”[11]

     

    If we assume that "letter" refers to a discipline or field of knowledge, then it means that all the sciences and knowledge that mankind will achieve or are available to them till the advent of the Imam will be equal to two disciplines out of 27 disciplines. The remaining 25 disciplines will be revealed to humans by the Imam of Time (atf) during the period of occultation. [12]

    What you remarked seems to be true. But, as I pointed out, their number is so few as if we cannot deem them as a portion of Ahvaz population. For instance if we deem 2000 (or less) Sunnis/Wahhabis in Ahwaz, they never even reach to 0.05% of all Ahwaz population --in comparison with 1.500.000 folks of Ahvaz--

    By this rate, perhaps they'll reach to Shia population in next 500 years or more!

    Medieval history[edit]

It is discussed by such respected medieval historians and geographers as ibn Hawqal, Tabari, Istakhri, al-Muqaddasi, Ya'qubi, Masudi, and Mostowfi Qazvini.     Ahvaz was devastated in the bloody Mongol invasions of the 13th and 14th centuries and subsequently declined into a mere village. The dam and irrigation channels, no longer maintained, eroded and finally collapsed early in the 19th century.     In “Zand”, one of the holy books of Zoroastrians, the end of the world is discussed in this way, “Then, Izadan will be aided by Ahoora Mazda and will gain a great victory against Ahrimans. It is after Izadan victory that human beings will become prosperous.”

    The book of Jamasb, one of the Zoroastrian scholars, describes the characteristics of Mahdi (PBUH) as such, “Someone will come from the Tazian Land of Hashem descendants with the religion of his ancestors; he will come towards Iran with many troops; he shall civilize and fill the earth with justice.”

    “Bahman” contains Zoroaster foretells. In the book of Zand and HooHooMan Lisen the arrival of Socians, the great savior of the world has been foreteller as, “Signs for the arrival of the savior will be seen as marvelous signals appear in the sky and some angels will carry his messages from the east and the west to the whole world.”

    The ancient Iranians believed so strongly in the arrival of “Socians” that when their empire was defeated decisively in “Qadesieh war” the third Yazdgerd turned to his great castle, “Mada’in”, and said “Bless you; I will leave now and shall return with one of my descendants who has not reappeared yet” (Book of Jamasb, pages 121-122). However, the Shiite believes Mahdi (PBUH) is of the descendants of Yazdgerd’s daughter. She was the wife of the third Imam of Shiites, Imam Hussein (PBUH), who is the ancestor of Imam Mahdi (PBUH).

    Mahdi (PBUH) in the New Testament (The Gospels and their additions)

    It has been talked about him in different Gospels: "The appearance of Human's Son is like light that spreads from east to west ... and then his signs will appear in the sky, and all the people will beat their breast at that time, and will watch him come down on clouds majestically."

    And this same Bible (New Testament) speaks of awaiting (during occultation) as such, “Thus you to be prepared, for the son of Man will come at a time you do not expect.” (Chapter 24, verses 37 and 45).

    Marcus talks about awaited people: “But Father, no one knows of that day and hour, not the angels and not even the Son. So stay alert and supplicate, because you do not know when that time will arrive” (The Bible of Marcus, Chapter 14, verses 26-27, 31 and 33).

    An interesting point about the Bible: According to American writer Max, the word ‘Son of Human/Man’ has been mentioned 80 times in the Gospel and the new additions. However, only 30 of them are about Jesus (PBUH) and the 50 other are regarding the savior who will reappear near the ends of time.  Jesus (PBUH) will come with him, and will respect him greatly. And no one knows of the hour and day of the reappearance but the Almighty creator.

    Mahdi (PBUH) in Hindu's holy books

    Let it be emphasized that from the point of view of the Shiite belief, these books are not considered holy. Rather these excerpts are collected from previous holy books and/or from noble people. Also these specific predictions must be somehow related to sacred works and revelations.

    It has been narrated in one of the Hindu books known as “Bask” that: “a just commander near the ends of time will end two worlds. This commander is the leader of angels and mankind. The truth is with him. And he will get hold of what are hidden within the seas, earth, and skies.”

    In "Shakmoni", an accredited Hindu book, it has been mentioned that: “Monarchy in this world will end by the son of the best creature, "Koshen"(name of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP)). He will rule on the mountains of the east to west and will ride upon the clouds...”

    Furthermore, we read in "Vashen-Jool" about the end results of the world: “Eventually, the world will turn toward the one whose name is “Auspicious”, he loves God and is of God’s special servants."

    We may find texts about The Savior in other Hindu books such as:

    Dartek, Dideh Patkil, and Shaboohergan.

    Besides of some main reasons such as negative effect of western media/movie/news and etc. on the culture of a remarkable numbers of the youth, but I believe there might be some wrong policies of the governments (especially from the ministry of guiding (Ershaad)) in some related cultural issues such as allowing the licences to some movies/concerts and ... which might not to be so good ... , then such related issues can be effective as well (but not as the main or the only reason).

    The answer is obvious, it is rather seems as a common issue in relatively all capital cities of the world (Islamic & non-Islamic capitals). For instance, you see why in Riadh (the capital of Saudi Arabia) the youth seems to be so non-religious rather than other cities of Saudi? Or even the capital of Iraq (Baghdad) in compare to other cities of Iraq? (especially in compare with many religious Shi'a cities of Iraq ...)?

    I personally feel that:

    At majority of time, increasing of level of the life (especially about money) and having diverse relationship to non-Islamic countries/people will effect on the culture ... 

    But, most of the effects on many named capitals such as Tehran(Iran)/Riadh(Saudi)/Baghdad(Iraq) is related to the apparent of clothes/behaviour of the youth, not their basic beliefs (although if reduce to some how)

    So, I reckon many partial media strive to zoom/exaggerate in Iran's issues, otherwise there are many real more negative issues in other near counties where do not notice them ...

    E.g. you can see the situation/environment of Turkey people/youth as if they are ... (of course not all of them). But the media don't zoom on Turkey, why? Since perhaps ...!

    Of course there are many religious youth in Iran in diverse valleys/towns/cities. But as I remarked before, the apparent of many youth = you might see non-religious shapes, but majority of them at least have basic beliefs of Islam such as Allah/Prophet-Muhammad/Imam-Ali as ...

    Even e.g. you can see in Muharram (especially in Taasu'aa-Ashura) how much they are eager in participating in Imam Hussain's rite's ...

    Or even for Lailatul-Qadr as there seems to be more than 95% of youth who attend ...

    But unfortunately many opponent media strive to show as if ... to defame/weaken Iran's ... On the other hand, the foreign readers ought to be aware/clever/honest/unbiased in surveying/judging ...


  10. But about Iranians who are outside of Iran, particularly in western countries:

    I do agree that many of them are not religious are perhaps not ..., but not all of them. But those minority who solely can be a very low percentages of all Iranians. Besides, this is not so odd if majority of abroad Iranians are not religious. Since many of them got out due to such issues and political ... (not all of them). Anyhow, based on WikiPedia, the population of abroad Iranians is around 4 or 5 millions, which I reckon it can be only about 6% of all Iranians (as Iran's population is 82.000.000). So, it is not so logic to judge by the beliefs of abroad Iranians.

    And basically, Iranians (youth) inside Iran as the very high majority of Iranians population = have higher beliefs (at least basic beliefs of Islam) although if you see many of them with non-religious covering of clothes ... since the form of clothes and some society behaviour mainly is related to the effect of non-islamic media who ... otherwise their basic beliefs (mainly) is islamic even though some of them apparent ...

    What those media express, is deemed as the view/rumor of opponent media. To be honest, I've encountered many such similar inquiries/rumors which demonstrate of diverse attempt of opponent  governments (enemies of Iran) by hiring (at least indirectly) many media to spread diverse wrong/negative/fake news about Iran to ... 

    So, we ought not to be deceived of their exaggeration in present the statistics of Iran ...


  12. About the financial support of Wahhabism = Yes, it seems they are expending much money to swap the beliefs of poor Arabs of Ahwaz (in suburb not in the city), but at majority of times = They are failed, and wasted their money ...

    But there might be only few poor individuals who deceived them, and even I reckon some of them even don't changed to Wahhabism, but just due to obtaining money = Pretend them as if they got Wahhabism (to obtain money).

    Anyhow, as I remarked, even all of their population never reach 0.01% and never include of statistic.

    So, when I look at partial-opponent media, I feel that the situation is awful/terrible, but when I search in the city = I just laugh of their very zoomed news!

    I as an Ahvazi (who am a little Arab as well as Fars), guess (based on my experiences in my research and ...) assume that e.g. if we consider 2.000.000 (or more) Arabs in Iran:

    There seems to be more than 90% of them in Khuzestan province (Ahvaz, Abadan, KhoramShahr, Shush, Shaadegan, Soosangerd, Mahshahr, ...)

    And almost all of them are Shia (as another logic issue, they are relatively on the Shi'i part of Iraq borders who demonstrates ...)

    and perhaps the rest 10% might be in Bushehr/Hormozgan + Mashhad/Qom/Tehran(in Dolat-Abad area) and so on. But I reckon only there might be limited population as Sunni in Bushehr or Hormozgan as Arabs-Sunni who might be less than 0.01% of all Arabs of Iran.

    And to the best of my knowledge, at least majority of Arabs of coasts (in Iran) are Shia as well.

  15. So, as I mentioned before, their populations are so few / limited, and opponent media strive to exaggerate/zoom the issue for the people who are out of Ahvaz and are not aware of Ahvazian beliefs.

    This issue is like attending 50 fans of x-team in the stadium where is consisted of 100.000 Y-team, but those 50 fans (by lobby) try to make some partial reporters to zoom mostly on those few 50 fans to zoom them for foreigner watcher to think as if the stadium is included of many x-team!

    But the persons who are in the stadium, can see that their population is son few numbers which even cannot be included of the statistics.

    Oh, no, that's solely a kind of exaggeration. I as an Ahvazian (who am related to both Fars-Arab), and I have vast research about that (besides of having many diverse friends in different places of Ahvaz and its suburbs, can really say that:

    The propganda of the opponent media are so larger/more than the number of sunnis of Ahvaz. Actually even there is not 0.01% Sunni in Ahvaz. Honestly I reckon there might be perhaps e.g. 0.001% and in fact we cannot call them as statistics.

    And majority of Ahwazian people perhaps haven't seen any Sunni in Ahwaz ...

    But, unfortunately opponents media zoom/exaggerate it as if Ahvaz ...

     

    Otherwise, there might be so few (limited) persons in some limited margin of the Ahvaz who perhaps claim of that, and those limited people looks to be to very poor individuals who apparently have changed their beliefs due to money (as some Sunni ... support them ...) + few partial individuals ...

    Sunni Documentation on Imam al-Mahdi (as)

    بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

    For the Sunni brothers, there are six major collections of traditions based on the Sunni standards for verifying the authenticity of a tradition. These six books are: Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sahih al-Tirmidhi, Sunan Ibn Majah, Sunan Abu Dawud, and Sahih al-Nisa’i. I just quote few traditions from these six books to prove that a knowledgeable Sunni brother/sister can NOT deny that:

    • al-Mahdi (as) will come in the last days to make a universal Government,

    • al-Mahdi (as) is from the Ahlul-Bayt of the Prophet (S),

    • al-Mahdi (as) is from the progeny of Fatimah (sa), the daughter of the Prophet (S),

    • al-Mahdi (as) is different than Prophet Jesus (the Messiah),

    • Prophet Jesus (as) will come as one of the followers of Imam al-Mahdi and will pray behind him in congressional prayer.

    Another undeniable fact is that many leading Sunni scholars have written books after books exclusively about Imam al-Mahdi (as) which I included some of their names at the end of this article.

    Moreover, Insha Allah in the next article, I will give a list of Sunni scholars who believe that Imam al-Mahdi (as) is son of Imam Hasan al-Askari (as), and is alive and went into occultation. In that article will also discuss the special specifications of Imam al-Mahdi which are the points of disagreement between the Shi’a and the Sunni.

    The following are only some of the traditions about Imam al-Mahdi which Sunnis admit to their authenticity and existence:

    The Prophet (S) said: "Even if the entire duration of the world’s existence has already been exhausted and only one day is left (before the day of judgment), Allah will expand that day to such a length of time, as to accommodate the kingdom of a person from my Ahlul-Bayt who will be called by my name. He will fill out the earth with peace and justice as it will have been full of injustice and tyranny (by then)."

  18. The Signs and Symbols of the Reappearance of Imam Mahdi (A.S.)

    Innumerable narrations contain the signs and symbols of the reappearance of Hazrat Wali-e-Asr Imam Mahdi (a.s.) Janab Sheikh Sadooq and Allamah Majlisi (May Allah Shower His blessing on them) the highly acclaimed Shia scholars have described these narrations among the signs and symbols of the re-appearance of Imam (a.s.) Here we will discuss them wholly from literary point of view.

    1. Importance of signs and symbols of re-appearance of Imam (a.s.):
    Since long all the Muslims in general and the Shias in particular are looking forward for the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (a.s.). It is undoubtedly an established fact like the Doomsday for which no fixed time or period is sounded. Only Allah knows, we know not. We have only to focus our attention on the indications assigned for it. To investigate, to find out and to distinguish between these signals and tokens for the reappearance of Imam (a.s.) is of immense importance. We can assume on the basis of these indications (not for certain) that the time and period is not far away. Due to this more emphasis is given on these signs from the beginning itself.

    2. There are two types of indications and signs:
    The signals given by Ahle Bait (a.s.) are not of one type. Some of the signs told by the descendants of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a) are unchangeable while some of them are inconstant. Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s.) has said that five signs before the re-appearance of Hazrat Qaim (a.s.) would appear: 
    (i) The appearance of Yemani, 
    (ii) Revolt of Sufyani, 
    (iii) Mysterious voice, 
    (iv) Murder of a pious man between Safah and Marwa, 
    (v) Sinking of Sufyani's army between Mecca and Medina at a place known as Baiza.

    According to another narration some other sure signs are related by Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s.) like the division of Bani Abbas in different groups; Sighting of mysterious hands from the sky (Behaarul Anwaar, vol. 52, pg. 206) while other signs are mutable. It can be concluded by keeping both the symbols together that some of them are uncertain.
