Salam, We all call ourselves shia, born shia, family shia , proud Shia, even our whole countries shia, and calculate the population of Shia by demographic head count etc, but hardly know who is considered Shia by the Ahlul bayt. I hope we all fall into the category below or strive towards it atleast, in Sha Allah. Below are fantastic hadiths to gauge ourselves if we can be considered Shia according to Ahlul Bayt or not: SHIA ACCORDING TO AHLUL BAYT امام هادی-ع عَلَیکُم بِالوَرَعِ فَاِنَّهُ الدّینُ الَّذی نَلازِمُهُ وَ نُدینُ الله تَعالیَ بِهِ وَ نُریدُهُ مِمَّن یُوالینا لاتَتعَبُونا بِالشَّفاعَةِ Imam Hadi (a): Have Taqwa, This is the religion that we observe and we worship God like this, and we ask our followers to be like this too, and DO NOT follow us in the HOPES of our intercession. [Wasil Shia vol15.] ***** وَ رَوَاهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ-ع إِنَّ قَوْماً مِنْ مَوَالِيكَ يُلِمُّونَ بِالْمَعَاصِي وَ يَقُولُونَ نَرْجُو فَقَالَ كَذَبُوا لَيْسُوا لَنَا بِمَوَالٍ أُولَئِكَ قَوْمٌ تَرَجَّحَتْ بِهِمُ الْأَمَانِيُّ مَنْ رَجَا شَيْئاً عَمِلَ لَهُ وَ مَنْ خَافَ مِنْ شَيْ‏ءٍ هَرَبَ مِنْه‏ H 1593, CH 29, h 6 : Ali ibn Muhammad has also narrated the above Hadith in a mafu’ manner from who has said the following: "I said to abu ‘Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, ‘Certain people of your supporters commit smaller sins and say that they have hope (in Allah’s forgiveness).’ The Imam said, ‘They lie. They are not our supporters. They are a people whose hope has caused them to deviate. Whoever has hope in something, he works to achieve it. Whoever is afraid of something, he keeps away from it.’" Al-Kafi vol 2. ***** Rozatul Kafi H 14738 : And by this chain, from Muhammad Bin Suleyman, from Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Al-Sufy from Musa Bin Bakr Al-Wasity who said: Abu Al-Hassan said to me: ' If I were to distinguish my Shias, I would not find them except for the description (talk). And if I were to test them, I would not find them except as APOSTATES. And if I were to scrutinize them not even one out of a thousand would escape. And if I were to screen them with a screening, there would not remain from them except the one who was for me. They have been saying for a long time, leaning upon their couches, ‘We are the Shias of Ali’. But rather, the Shia of Ali is the one who truthful in both his actions as well as his words’. ****** ما شِيعَتُنا إلّا مَنِ اتَّقى اللَّهَ وأطاعَهُ ، وما كانوا يُعرَفُونَ إلّا بالتَّواضُعِ والتَّخَشُّعِ وأداءِ الأمانَةِ وكَثرَةِ ذِكرِ اللَّهِ Imam al-Baqir (a): No one is our Shia except by the fear of God and His obedience, and they are not recognized except by their humbleness, reverence, trustworthiness, and abundance of remembrance of God. [Tuhaf al-Uqool ****** الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : شيعَتُنا هُمُ العارِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ ، العامِلُونَ بِأمرِ اللَّهِ ، أهلُ الفَضائلِ ، الناطِقُونَ بالصَّوابِ ، مَأكُولُهُم القُوتُ ، ومَلبَسُهُمُ الاقتِصادُ Imam Ali (a): Our Shia are those who are gnostics of Allah, they act according to the orders of God, they possess excellences, they speak only truth, their food is limited to gaining strength, their dress is economical . ****** Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘One who claims to follow us with his tongue, but DOES the OPPOSITE to our ACTIONS and DEEDS is not from among our Shi`aa.’ [Bihar al-Anwar, v. 68, p. 164, no. 13] ****** Imam Baqir (A.S) has said : Those who claim to be shia should know that shias are our friends and followers. They are: 1.Pious 2.Obedient 3.Humbleness 4.Uprightness 5.Trustworthiness 6.By their Zikr of Allah 7.Their salaat 8.Fasting 9.Kindness to parents 10.Respect for the rights of neighbors 11.Their assistance for the poor and the disabled 12.Sympathy for the destitute 13.Loving behavior towards orphans 14.Truthfulness 15.Recitation of the Holy Quran, and acting according to all commandments and laws in it 16.True Shias control their tongue and use it in the best manner for beneficence 18. Wish the best for all the servants of God and 19. Give shelter to their friends. ****** Imam al-Hasan (AS) said in answer to a man who said to him, ‘Verily I am one of your Shi`aa’ : ‘O `Aabdallah, if you are truly obedient to us in our commands and prohibitions, then you are telling the truth. But if not, then do not add to your sins by falsely claiming such a dignified position that you are not worthy of. Do not say, ‘I am one of your Shi`aa’, but say rather, ‘I am one of your adherents and one of your lovers and an enemy to your enemies. ’ You are [doing] good and aiming towards good.’ [Tanbih al-Khawatir, v. 2, p. 106] ****** Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘Verily the Shi`aa of Ali were those who restrained their stomachs and their sexual desires, who struggled and fought intensely, who worked hard for their Creator, who hoped for His reward and feared His punishment. If you have seen such people, then they are the very Shi`aa of Ja`afar.’ [al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 233, no. 9] ****** Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘Test our Shi`aa with regard to three things: the prayer times to see how well they observe them, their secrets to see how well they guard them from our enemies, and their wealth to see how they help out their fellow brothers with it.’ [Bihar al-Anwar, v. 83, p. 22, no. 40] ****** قال لى: يا جابرا يكتفى من ينتحل التشيع ان يقول بحبنا اهل البيت؟ فوالله ما شيعتنا الا من اتقى الله و اطاعه و ما كانوا يعرفون الا بالتواضع و التخشع و الامانة و كثرة ذكر الله و الصلاة و الصوم و البر بالوالدين و التعهد للجيران من الفقراء و اهل المسكنة و الغارمين و الايتام و صدق الحديث و تلاوة القرآن و كف الالسن عن الناس الا من خير و كانوا امناء عشايرهم فى الاشياء. قال جابر: فقلت: يا ابن رسول الله ما نعرف اليوم احدا بهذه الصفة! فقال عليه السلام: يا جابر لا تذهبن بك المذاهب، حسب الرجل ان يقول احب عليا و اتولاه ثم لا يكون مع ذلك فعالا؟ فلو قال: انى احب رسول الله - فرسول الله خير من علي - ثم لا يتبع سيرته و لا يعمل بسنته ما نفعه حبه اياه شيئا، فاتقوا الله و اعملوا لما عند الله، ليس بين الله و بين احد قرابة، احب العباد الى الله عز و جل اتقاهم و اعملهم بطاعته، يا جابر فوالله ما يتقرب الى الله تبارك و تعالى الا بالطاعة، و ما معنا براءة من النار و لا على الله لاحد من حجة، من كان لله مطيعا فهو لنا ولى، و من كان لله عاصيا فهو لنا عدو، لا تنال ولايتنا الا بالعمل و الورع. «بحار الانوار، ج 15 كتاب الاخلاق ص 148» "Does it suffice for one who claims to be our follower to just express his friendship with the members of the Holy Household? I swear by God that no one is our true follower unless he fears God and obeys Him. Our followers are known for their 1-humbleness 2-frequent remembrance of God; 3-fasting; 4-praying; 5-helping the orphans, the needy, the ones in debt, and needy neighbors; 6-reading the Quran; 7-and talking properly with the people. 8-They have always been trustworthy in their tribes. O’ Jabir! Do not let the various sects affect you. Do you think that it suffices for one to say that he likes Imam Ali and he is his follower, but does not do anything to support his claim? Or he says that he likes the Prophet, who is even better than Imam Ali, but does not take his example and follow his deeds and act according to the Prophet’s tradition? Just having love for the Prophet is of NO use for him. Therefore, fear God, and act in such a way as to attain what is near God, since there is no relation of kin between God and anyone. The one most loved by God is the one who is the most pious, and the noblest one is the one who fears God and obeys Him. I swear by God that it is not possible to get close to God unless by His obedience, and we do not hold the key to relief from the Fire of Hell, and no one has any authority over God. Whoever is obedient to God is our friend, and whoever disobeys God is our enemy. No one can attain our friendship unless by having nobility and piety." (Tuhaf al-Uqool) ***** When Mamoon appointed Imam Reza (a) as his crown prince His gate keeper came and said: "A group of people are standing and want to come and visit you and say they are the Shias of Imam Ali." The Imam said, " Tell them I have work and tell them to return back." The Gate keeper returned them. The next day they returned and introduced themselves in the same manner. The gate keeper returned them again. And so the third, fourth day till two months they would come every day but were not allow to meet the Imam After two months they told the gate keeper: "Tell our master we are the Shias of your father Ali. You have not given us permission to meet you, and our enemies are ridiculing us. We will return but we will be homeless when we return to our cities and country as we will won't be able to bare the ridicule of the enemies." Imam Reza told the gate keeper to allow them in . They entered and said Salam to the Imam, But the Imam did not answer and did not even allow them to sit and were still standing. They said " Oh son of the prophet what is this belittling for after closing the door on us for two long months and not giving us permission ? What will be left of us?" The imam said " Read this Quranic verse which says; Whatever that reaches you is all from your bad deeds (although Allah forgives many of your bad deeds (Shura:30) Then he said: "Because you CLAIMED to be the SHIA of Ali ! Woe to you'll ! The Shias of Ali (a) are like Imam Hassan and Imam Hussein,Abu Dhar, Salman, Miqdad and Ammar and Mohammad bin Abi Bikr who did not disobey the laws of Allah and did not do any of the Haram, and you also say that you are Shias ? Although in most of your acts you are against him, and even fall short in the obligatory acts and take the rights of your brothers in religion lightly, And the places you shouldn't do Taqiyah, you do taqiyah , but in places that you have no choice but to do taqiyah you don't adhere to this great duty. If instead of claiming to be shias you would have said,that you are the admirers and friends of Imam Ali and like the friends of them and consider their enemies your enemies I would not have rejected your claim and would have accepted it , **BUT YOU HAVE CLAIMED A HIGH POSITION and if your actions don't match your words you are destroyed ! " They said," Oh son of the prophet we ask forgiveness from God, and ask repentance from God for our inappropriate statement and as you, our master have taught us, we shall say we are your friends and your friends are our friends and your enemies are our enemies." The imam said " Welcome my brothers and my friends come higher and higher and higher," he took them so high that he made stick to him. Then told the gate keeper: "How many times have you returned them entering this house?" He said ,"60 times" Then Imam Said," Them go to their houses 60 times, and say Salam to them, and say my Salams to them because today they seeked repentance , and their sins have been forgiven and since they are our friends and attached to us, they are worthy of respect. Hence go visit them, check their and their families situation, give them their expense of their livelihood and charity and solve their worries and problems." [Bihar al-Anwar 68/157-159]
  2. Salam Actually the term ijtihad comes from the words Jahd which refers to deep struggle in the path of religion. But the definition you gave came into islam later.The Imams as far as I am aware have not given the definition above. When you read the Quran or hadiths as far as I know ijtihad/jahd has not been termed as above, it is mainly indicating to people who strive in the path of religion, it did not entail the meaning of going to a particular institute to acquire a particular certificate to be known as a mujtahid. Back then their was no hawza, to be given a qualification of being a mujtahid.It was either a divinely appointed Imam you follow, or follow the scholars who derived their own opinions from religion, such as Abu Hanifa vs Imam Jafar al Sadiq. For example you can say Salman Farsi was considered a true mujtahid from God's view because he truly strived hard that he managed to achieve the same knowledge the prophet and Imam Ali had, by the grace of God according to reliable hadiths.   4. It is either the person hasn't translated this very clearly himself or you got it wrong based on how "he worded it." He used the word wicked for the people of Ninavah not the prophet! The people of the nation were steeped in wickedness . This is the statement: _____ Yunus' mission was to the city of Nineveh, ***then steeped in wickedness. The people rejected him.*** ____ ( meaning the people then / at the time when Yunus was missioned as a prophet to Nineveh were steeped in wickedness, thus they rejected him ) Probably it was better for the translator to translate it as: "When Yunus was missioned to the city of Nineveh, the people were steeped in wickedness, and rejected him." But most probably the person was an English speaking translator who wanted to do a word for word translation or wasnt very good in expressing this statement clearly in English. Lastly, Adam was a prophet. He was told by God, get down to earth,because he fell into the trap of iblees as he disregarded the command of God. Al-Islam.org even has grammer and typo mistakes in their website. Anyway the exact wordings as wicked was in the reliable website you gave also! But you have read it wrongly or it is not very clear.   6. @E.L King could you find the exact hadith he stated from shia source? The closest I came was from the sunni source where the prophet sends la'an to those who claim a father other than theirs? Sunni Muslim: خَطَبَنَا عَلِيُّ بن أبي طَالِبٍ فقال من زَعَمَ ان عِنْدَنَا شيئا نَقْرَؤُهُ إلا كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَهَذِهِ الصَّحِيفَةَ قال وَصَحِيفَةٌ مُعَلَّقَةٌ في قِرَابِ سَيْفِهِ فَقَدْ كَذَبَ فيها أَسْنَانُ الْإِبِلِ وَأَشْيَاءُ من الْجِرَاحَاتِ وَفِيهَا قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الْمَدِينَةُ حَرَمٌ ما بين عَيْرٍ إلى ثَوْرٍ فَمَنْ أَحْدَثَ فيها حَدَثًا وَمَنْ ادَّعَى إلى غَيْرِ أبيه أو انْتَمَى إلى غَيْرِ مَوَالِيهِ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَه وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لَا يَقْبَلُ الله منه يوم الْقِيَامَةِ صَرْفًا ولا عَدْلًا As his statement is based on a similar hadith and surah Ahzab:5
  7. Yes,I realized. I just went straight to the point of (Wa'ra ) taqwa, as this is the main thing. I did not want to elaborate more from what he said just so I don't misinform. But thank you for confirming my thoughts, and yout over all view of fatwa, till someone procifient in translation, translates this fully. This is a very wise statement. Poor Sistani he has to deal with such issues on daily basis from his moqalid that he had to issue a statement once and for all... With this statement 90% wont be able to claim being a Syed. It would be a good idea moderators pin this post for his moqalids, so that this way the threads related to syeds might decline. Though I doubt anyone will pay attention...

From what I can gather bottom line and very briefly, he mentions it is " Wa'ra " which is synonymous to Taqwa that we need." __________ We know abu lahab was the prophet's Uncle who is closest to him in blood relations comparing to anyone of us is destined to hell, and Salman Farsi whose family was zoroastrian ( Majoos )and reverted to Christianty then Islam, and was looked down because he was not Arab, was called part of Ahlul bayt by the prophet. That is why in the day of judgement all of our family ties will break and our real families will be based upon our level of faith and taqwa. These kind of tests , specially to link your blood line to the prophet, leads to nothing but discord. It is our inner virtues that make us a family to the prophet not physical blood relations. I am glad he issued such a statement .

This is a proof for all brothers on this site and can see for themselves, that you have refuted the very source you provided yourself without reading it carefully as It doesn't make a difference which site is the commentary posted. The commentry should be identical if it from Pouya. Now this is between you and Agha Pouya, you either send lanat on him or yourself. The commentry on al-Islam.org and islam portal are identical. I hope you read properly what you post for your own sake and work abit more on your search skills. Now since this is the source you provided kindly read it fully and properly yourself. Second I copy and searched the commentry you quoted from Pouya and the exact wordings were in that link, and even more The quote commentry you quoted was from Pouya. So you quote from Pouya and call him a liar loool. Probably you have to look properly, the very sources you provide yourself and refute it yourself lol It is not my website. I don't need to learn anything in English, I have the actual sources in Farsi and Arabic. But probably you get wrong translation in the process lol. All you commented was from that source, you can just put the words and find the exact wordings of what you quoted yourself, But I guess you are in denial. If Any of the brother want to check this, they are free to google the quote you gave and find the website.

  15. No problem you can learn farsi and read it for yourself then, and read the commentry of pouya on prophet Yunus where he says all can make mistakes and Yunus was asking forgiveness for his anger ! Lol
