  1. Salam, I had been questioning whether the use of Nicotine Patches would invalidate your fast. For all those who may find this helpful, this is the answer I have gotten through http://www.Sistani.org/ Salam, Will nicotine patches invalidate your fast during Ramadan? In the Name of Allah, the Most High No, they do not invalidate the fast. May Allah grant you success. www.Sistani.org
  2. You're right in the case of Sistani, I asked the question in 2016 Question: Salam, I would like to ask you about the permissibly of hunting for sport. Are we allowed to hunt animals such as bears, lions, elephants for sport? Meaning can we hunt the animal even tho we are not going to eat the meat? Thank You In the Name of God, the Most High لایجوز It is not permissible. May Allah grant you success. www.sistani.org Istifta Section - Office of His Eminence Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani

  5. Salam, is anyone aware of restrictions in terms of tattoo's when traveling to an Islamic country? If the tattoo's are not visible there shouldn't be any repercussions but can you be denied entry or arrested in an Islamic country for having a visible tattoo?
  6. Actually, more and more website and stores are accepting bitcoin payments (see link) https://99bitcoins.com/who-accepts-bitcoins-payment-companies-stores-take-bitcoins/. When crypto currency first made an appearance with bitcoin, it was mainly used on the dark web as a currency due to the difficulty in tracing back the buyer and seller. Furthermore, you are viewing crypto currency simply through the lens of bitcoin when many such currencies exists. As with stocks, to mitigate such risk you must diversify your portfolio to ensure that if one currency drops the other currency will thrive (example: invest in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple). With the recent drop of bitcoin, ripple had managed to stay a float (see second link posted https://xrpcharts.ripple.com/#/markets/XRP/USD:rhub8VRN55s94qWKDv6jmDy1pUykJzF3wq?interval=1d&range=6m&type=candlestick (one year or max view, candlestick chart). As with any investment, it's value can drop and be worth nothing (see Enron Scandal). Any risk averse individual should not get into crypto currencies. Holding the currency for a couple of years is actually considered a long term strategy. I do agree with you that some of the crypto's are short term trade strategies based on their volatility, but others with enough research can be held in the long run depending on what they are used for.
  7. Alright, so I messaged grand Ayatollah Sistani via his website the following questions Question: Salam, is it permissible to buy/sell Bitcoins or Cryptocurrency as we do stocks in order to benefit from them financially? Thank You And have received the following response In the Name of God, the Most High سماحة السيد حفظه الله لا يبدي رأياً في أعمال مثل هذه الشركات وكذا في العمل معهم. His Eminence, grand Ayatollah Sistani does not express his opinion in regards to the activities of such companies as well as working with them. May Allah grant you success. www.sistani.org Istifta Section - Office of His Eminence Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani
  8. The investors, if knowledgeable would have a sizable sum in their hardware wallets instead of on the exchange and their money would have been safe. Depends you can also use bitcoins to mitigate risk, recently investors have been investing in crypto currency to hedge against risks in the regular stock exchanges and balance out their portfolio. That way, if the stock exchange crashes, crypto currency prices will rise and vice versa.
  9. Thank you for the reference but I will email his office directly and inquire about the issue as I do not understand Farsi/Arabic (when I get an answer I will post it here). Are you aware of why they would be impermissible?
  10. Where has he mentioned this. Please provide references when you are referring to something being forbidden or not forbidden preferably directly from his website. You are right, it is an asset with no physical value. Stocks have dividends, Bonds have coupons but bitcoins value are solely based on the fact that people believe the price will rise. When people buy more than what can be produced (amount people can mine) & with speculation the price quickly shoots up. It's like the Tulip Mania in 1934.
  11. Canada, I managed to get the artwork done by http://www.arabiccalligrapher.com/
  12. Salam Akhter, Thank you for your response. I have found a calligraphist who has took on the job, but will keep you in mind for future projects if need be!
  13. For all those who can attend, an Arbaeen procession will be held in Montreal, Quebec on November 5th, 2017. The procession will begin at 12:30 pm.
  14. In the case of the Jewish people, isn't their religion passed down through the mother (correct me if I am wrong)? It would be a conflict if the Muslim father wanted his children to be Muslim and the Jewish mother retorts by saying it is part of her religion for her children to be Jewish as she is the mother.
  15. This might be a simplistic view of things but let me try and explain how I feel about "Allah doesn't burden a soul beyond what it can bear" A teacher tells his students that there is a midterm exam in the following week. Although the exam is hard, the teacher knows the students can "bear" the difficulty. The students can react in three ways 1. Study and excel (in this case it would be to bear the hardship and overcome it. Furthermore, he will be ready for the same problem when he faces it in the "final exam" if it were to reappear.) 2. Not to study and attend the exam (in this case the student would be in the same position as he started. He might pass, he might fail but he has put in no effort. The hardship will continue to his final exam) 3. Not attend the exam (this has the worse of consequences, the student will fail with the harshest of grades & will surely fail again in the final) Similarly, in life, when burdened with a hardship such as depression you have three options. 1. See psychiatrists, talk to doctors, actively seek knowledge and try your hardest to overcome the burden no matter how difficult it may seem. 2. Do nothing more than what you are currently doing and "go through" the burden. You are most likely to face the same problems in the future. 3. Commit suicide, the worst of scenarios for your life and your after life. I may completely be off the mark and you may disagree with my analogy, I just hope you can see it from my perspective.

  17. Salam, I am looking for someone to convert an Arabic sentence into a figural shape (for compensation). Does any one have references or advice as to where I can find someone capable of accomplishing the task?
  18. I have previously asked the question and have received this reply In the Name of God, the Most High There is no problem in having tattoos per se. They do not affect ghusl, wudhu or salat. However, you should not tattoo an animal and human image on your body as it is not befitting for a Muslim to do so. May Allah grant you success. www.sistani.org Istifta Section - Office of His Eminence Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani Also from the Imam Ali Foundation In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the MercifulIt is permissible to have a tattoo if:a. The tattoo allows the water of wudhu and ghusl to reach the skin whileperforming wudhu or ghusl.b. Having a tattoo does not involve forbidden touch or look.c. The tattoo does not encourage corruption or corrupted ideas or beliefs.d. The tattoo does not have the names of Allah his almighty or Quran script.e. for woman, if that is considered as a beauty item then it must beconcealed from non-mehram manWassalamu Alaykum

  23. I don't think McDonalds is dying, they have been consistently able to re-brand themselves cater to what the population wants. For example, In Canada, their was a slight decrease in people physically visiting McDonald locations. To counter that, they introduced the FilotOfish, BigMac and McChicken Sauces to retail markets such as Walmart, IGA & Provigo. Also, as the trends of eating breakfast later on in the day increase, and as people tend to be more health conscious, they have advertised 24/7 Breakfasts and put on emphasis on their salads and healthier menu's. They constantly adapt and evolve to try and retain their market share.
