His lectures this year are obviously provocatively titled, but having watched them all he does cite his sources more than he did many years ago; I think he balances a semi-academical approach with a subdued polemical tone (comparatively speaking). In the lecture posted by OP he talks about Christian influences on Muawiyah's thinking and behaviour, seeing as he kept around Christians who harboured animosity toward the Prophet and his household (عليه السلام) in his court. The common theme in all his lectures this year seems to be how the actions of certain individuals set historical precedence for people later on (i.e. the Umayyads) to undermine Prophetic authority, which in turn paved way for Karbala to happen. Such topics will inevitably arouse emotion and especially in the current political milieu is extremely difficult not to come across as polemical.

Muhammad: The Messenger Of God (Film 2015)
von Lohengramm replied to Ibn al-Hussain's topic in General Islamic Discussion
Movie can be viewed in HD here with good subtitles: https://www.insight-media.co/videos/muhammad-messenger-of-god-movie-english-subtitles/ If you right click the video you can display the URL and paste it into a Facebook video converter if you want to download it (1.3gb). Alternatively, you can follow the download link on the page but the file is around 5gbs. -
Salam, One would think if such references existed they would be included within the book --- that alone makes it spurious. I haven't found references outside the book either, nor has anyone else as far as I know. Those videos do seem to be based off the book, but again without references, which says a lot about the uploaders' concern for veracity. God knows best.

The first half of Death Note was great, but went downhill after ep 25 IMO. Check out Kaiji (2 seasons) and Monster (74 eps) as well, and if you want to see the absolute best the medium has to offer, watch Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (Legend of the Galactic Heroes [the original version, not the inferior remake]; 2 movies + 110 eps).

What Have You Watched Recently? [OFFICIAL THREAD]
von Lohengramm replied to Chaotic Muslem's topic in Off-Topic
Update. I finished the first 76 episodes (two seasons) in a week and a half. The rating? Must-watch-before-you-die-especially-if-you're-a-Muslim/10. Seriously, I didn't think there was a show like this out there, and it's the best thing I've ever seen. All episodes are available on Netflix. Worth getting a membership just for this! -
Bro I think you misunderstood. I meant a person that is a Shi'a Muslim who is studying History as their degree, the point being that, from my experience anyway, not many Muslims (let alone Shias) go into these areas May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى grant us all success.

Yes, nothing better than manly men shouting great things while hammering down a sword. -
Assalamu alaykum, I'm doing Ancient History myself, also in my final year. Nice to find a Shi'a History undergraduate; not many of us enter these areas I think, especially the Classics, which some of my Shi'a friends haven't even heard of.

Diriliş: Ertuğrul (2014-ongoing). Can't believe I never found out about this sooner. Centres around Erturgrul, the father of the founder of the Ottoman Empire and part of the 13th-century (Muslim) Oghuz Turkic people. I'm only on season one (out of four) but loving it. No edgelord gimmicks (nudity, gratuitous violence) like you find in similar shows of its genre, and Islamically safe to watch. You can watch it free here with English subs: http://wlext.net/series/dirilis-ertugrul-season-1?server=openloadco&episode=001 And if your in doubt, I can guarantee you'll be hooked within the first five mins of episode one. -
"If you buy halal you are supporting Islamic jihad". lol really? I suppose these EDL muppets and right-wing Australian crackpots also think we shoot chickens in the head with Muzlamic ray guns according to the Sharon Law.

W/s I'm currently learning Japanese and hope to learn Arabic to an intermediate level in the future. I can personally vouch for Ibn Al-Ja'abi's advice above, especially on self-motivation (if your self-learning the language this is arguably the most important factor). To add, living in the country of your target language will really help with immersion, as will listening to podcasts and watching movies/TV shows (initially with English subs) if moving abroad for a short time isn't feasible.

Peterson & Newman discussion (gender issues)
von Lohengramm replied to Haji 2003's topic in Social/Family/Personal
Ironically Peterson is someone who seems to like to think positively, as evidenced by his desire for dialogue with 'moderate' Muslim intellectuals; yet at the same time he promotes unquestionably intellectual charlatans and repeats talking points of ignorant Islamophobes (e.g. Muhammad was a warlord, blah blah) despite himself admitting ignorance on the subject! (He is quite evidently ignorant of history as well). Perhaps he doesn't have anything positive to say on Islam--as far as I'm aware--because of his predominantly alt-right fanbase. -
Peterson & Newman discussion (gender issues)

With all the right stuff that comes out of Peterson's mouth, one has to question his integrity when he advocates opportunistic quacks like Hirsi Ali as authorities on Islam. -
Islamically abortion amounts to infanticide, which is of course condemned abundantly in the Quran (e.g. 60.12, 6.140, 6.151). Hopefully this thread isn't derailed into a clamouring discussion on abortion ;)

W/s. I used to listen to a ton of anime openings but cut down recently. I usually check to see if the lyrics are appropriate. Also, if it has a melody that genuinely makes you forget Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى then avoid it. One Piece and its openings are replete with bodily fanservice (as is common with most anime nowadays) and ought to be skipped.
