  2. Time to change my signature quote. Here's the one that's outgoing.

"And what with the fever of mechanization, and the exploitation of slaves by masters, and the passions of intertribal warfare, and the increasing neglect or coarsening of all the more awakened activities of the spirit, the little flame of praise in their hearts sank lower than it had ever been in any earlier age, so low that they could no longer recognize it." - William Olaf Stapledon

No problem, you're one of my favorite members.

  4. Pasting quotes that I removed from my signature:

"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with senses, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."  Galileo

"When scientifically investigating the natural world, the only thing worse than a blind believer is a seeing denier."  Neil Degrasse Tyson
  5. I'm pretty reserved nowadays, but every once in a while the real feisty me shows through. I'm looking forward to being elderly someday, inshallah, so I can speak my mind freely without concern for respectability.

  10. Salaam alaikum. You had called me brother before and I didn't correct you, so it's not surprising that you assumed I'm a man. I try to not emphasize gender on the internet, because usually it doesn't matter. I picked the superman logo as my avatar because all women are super heroes when we need to be. I've enjoyed your posts so far. Welcome to shiachat.

Wa alaykoum al Salam, sorry for calling you a brother. But sometimes it's better that men think your are brother :) and ye it doesn't matter. All humans are superheroes too. There are some amazing men. Thank you, I appreciate your kind words Khala and thank you for your kind welcoming.

  11. "The lord" without capitalization is just a title for a certain rank of landed nobility. He would be the boss of all his peasant tenants.

From my assessment, 'Lord' can be used in a number of contexts, but when someone says 'The Lord', it usually has connotations of 'The lord our God'.

For instance in arabic 'Al' is used after divine attributes. Ali ibn Abi Talib a.s is called 'Ali', but Allah is 'Al-Ali' [The most high]. The is 'Al' in arabic.

We also have cases where Ali ibn abi talib a.s punished people who referred to him as 'rabbana' i.e 'Our lord'.

Though here in the UK, we have something called 'the house of Lords' where those in it are called 'Lords'. But i would never refer to them as 'The Lord' and even 'Lord' is unsettling.

But i see your point, it does have a wider meaning, but i think it's problematic and i just wanted to give the brother some friendly advise. He can take it if he likes, and i feel i needed to comment and will leave it as that with respect to him.

No hard feelings intended with the post brother, i know you probably intended the general meaning, but i just wanted you to be aware that 'the lord' might in the eyes of many be interpreted the wrong way.

No big deal though :) Just wanted to bring it to your attention and leave it at that.

Hope you are doing well this Saturday! I for one think you should ignore those who try to mock your accent!

  12. My condolences, brother. May Allah comfort those who have lost loved ones and curse the oppressors.

  13. I didn't realize you are Christian. I thought you were agnostic or atheist. Strangely, it makes me happy that you are a believer.
