  1. (bismillah) (salam) The muslim ummah is too big for everyone to agree on everything and so people have been catagorised according to their beliefs. However somewhere along the way it has been forgotten that we are all part of the same ummah. If any person from another religion came to us with the beliefs of any of the other islamic sects we would call them our brothers. We might not entirely agree with them on everything but they would be closer to us than any other faith. Their belief in God would please us and their support for islam and muslims would encourage us. However we cannot have
  2. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum Check out "The Mystry of Numbers" by Annamarie Schimmel. She looks at numbers the root of numbers in various traditions and the intro on how numbers came about is really good. There is then a dictionary of numbers and the significance that traditions placed on them. In summary numbers are expressions of realities in the universe. For example in the same way that the word tawhid, expresses the Oneness of God, so the number One originated as an understanding of that same Oneness. Numbers then progressed as the unfolding of the universe. This is why science is so inte
  3. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum So i guess the above rule posted by salah means that you can download movies but not burn them on to DVD and distribute??...cos i just got a whold hard drive of movies from a shaykh!
  4. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum Thanks dude, but i cant read arabic:) Mind translating or sending me the english link?
  5. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum What is the view on movies that have been ripped onto DVD or downloaded free from the internet using free software? I have a niggleing feeling that its ghasbi
  6. (bismillah) Bro thanks for sharing! You had this dream on Thursday night and the Imam (AF) is supposed to return on Friday but only when he has 313 companions. It has reminded us:) As to your dream, i bet it was really vivid despite the fact that it was short, and you could feel the effects of the dream afterwards. If you ask me i would say that your soul managed to capture some of the reality of what happens on Thursday night. It is also probably a good reason to continue your search as since you have seen this in a dream you know that at least part of you has been convinced, only your ration
  7. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum Once i was having real trouble because i knew that God existed but i kept having thoughts that He did not exist. Then God showed me the truth in my heart. At that moment i knew that if i did not beleive after that i would be a real kafir, that is i would know the truth but cover it up. So in answer to your post, God is the best Guide. Insh hope that helps:)
  8. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum bro There is no problem in wearing any of these to my knowledge. Those that feel there is a problem will have to prove there is anything in our religion that allows only a certain people to wear green to the exclusion of everyone else! Insh hope that helps:)
  9. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum sister and insh God will give you success in your search:) One of the key aspects of Islam is Tawhid, which means the Oneness of God. Islam can be understood from this perspective in a deeply moving way. When we say God is One we do not mean that He is one and eveyone else is their own entity. We mean that God is Unique and is present everywhere. He is not so close that He is within everything and He is not so far that He is away from everything. God created man to know Him, and Islam is focused on this objective, knowing God. God however is far above the streach
  10. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum In that case dude, sounds like your ready to take the plunge (it is called a plunge for a reason)! I hear there are lots of good women in Sydney, soemone i know just got engaged to a very pios Lebanese girl:) Insh tell ur mum your ready:)
  11. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum Insh you mean this verse: [shakir 3:110] You are the best of the nations raised up for (the benefit of) men; you enjoin what is right and forbid the wrong and believe in Allah; and if the followers of the Book had believed it would have been better for them; of them (some) are believers and most of them are transgressors. [Pooya/Ali Commentary 3:110] Khayra ummatin means the best group of people. As has been said in verse 104 of this surah that there is a select group of people who call others to virtue and enjoin that which is good (amr bil ma-ruf) and forbid evi
  12. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum In general to understand what God wants from you in terms of the Sharia there are two main places to look: 1) The Quran 2) The Hadith However not everyone is qualified to interpret these straight out due to not having enough knowledge, like in Arabic grammer or knowing the context of revelation, abrogated and unabrogated verses and the authenticity of hadith. If a person can study so that he is competant to extract the rulings that he needs, he does not need to do taqleed and can follow his own interpretations, although he is answerable to God on what he does. If a
  13. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum I think the concept of being ready for marriage has two paths. One is waiting until you cant wait any more and so you are ready for marriage. The other is looking at it like, nothing can really prepare you for marrige except pursuing the path of marriage. That is that look for a girl, get engaged and get married. During that time you will become ready for marriage. Same with kids. People cannot really say they were ready for kids but they got ready when they had them. As for me, i think i was on the secound path although wanting to stay away from haraam was the s
  14. (bismillah) Salaamun alaykum, Mate, i think a change of attitude when it comes to doubt is needed. The question of which religion to follow is a basic one, however when it comes to depth, and i can see that you are a person that likes to go into depth, you have to learn to be comfortable with doubt. As for a coherent system, there is none like Islam. It integrates the cosmos with the human and God by way of His Names and the Quran, which is a written explaination of the whole. A person progresses, by refining themselves, until they can witness God and have the best of moral traits. They sec
  15. (bismillah) Insh will be studying Arabic at the Universtity of Damascus which has a special faculty for foreign students who want to learn Arabic:) Its a bit expensive though at about £160 for the first 6 modules and then £210 for the final two. That times two for me and my wife is £2,760 just for uni fees! In Howza they pay you to study! But i have heard the learning is not that good and insh i want to be able to come back and have Arabic done! Been working as an accountant for the last 3 years and studying at the same time so REALLY looking forward to going insh! :!!!: :!!!: :!!!:
