  1. GoFundMe for widowed sister Over $90,000 has been raised for this sister in one day. The brother died yesterday morning and his janazah is today. People from all over came together to help, Georgia, Alabama, New York, New Jersey, Cali, Philly,UK, black, white, arab, Shia, Sunni, Salafi, Sufi, even NOI. This was a believing brother. May Allah have mercy on his wife and children.
  2. 1) I have a greek name but for some reason all the Muslims call me Aisha, lol. I am from the USA. 2) Reason 1. Keeps people from bothering me. Seriously. You have no idea how same-sex harassment/courting/flirting has taken over the American work environment. But that's a topic for another day. Reason 2. It is a form of dawah. 3) Modest in dress? I guess so. I would not wear something immodest and put on a headscarf. But don't forget a woman can be immodest in behavior (I curse a lot a work, make dua for me).
  3. I only wear niqab when I'm in video chatroom. Too many weirdos in the world & I don't want them recording me, lol. It does freak some people out. I've never worn it flipped down in public. If I lived in a more Muslim area (Atlanta, Philly, Dearborn) I would love to wear it full time. I'm kinda anti-social and don't like strangers coming up to me anyway. But wearing it here in Alabama would just draw more bad attention.
  4. There is a sister in Philly who makes custom niqabs. They are so cute. https://m.facebook.com/janine.greenwood.144
  5. It is still called ghusl. http://www.mfs.asn.au/ghusl--burial-steps.html
  6. I just don't like how they let a pig....I mean officer :) come into the masjid and cause fitnah! If my ID and my passport says female that is the end of that! For the board/Imam to be passing around her medical records among the masjid MD's is foul! What's next? Will she have to submit to a GYN exam by one of the masjid doctors to be accepted? I would have no part in this community. :( This is a complete mess. Because now they are OK'ing speculation & rumors. I know a lot of sisters who don't look all Barbie doll feminine. Some are boney and muscular and flat chested and have strong facial bones. So now any sister who looks a little hard has to submit to an interrogation & sexual exam?
  7. www.iccpaz.com LOL you can niqabis apart. Besides, no body else in niqab is out fighting the system but her.
  8. She's a white revert sister from Arizona. My PERSONAL opinion is that they are making this up as an excuse to ban her because she is VERY politically/socially active. By very I'm talking about getting arrested on live TV during a black lives matter protest, lol, in full black abaya & niqab.
  9. I'm looking at this strictly as to how this would benefit me & my family. If a brother wanted to take me as his 2nd and had the ability to give me all my rights (including a separate home, in my name, and maintaining it) yeah, I would go for it. That means all of my earnings would be for me & my children.
  10. We call it "getting paid under the table" here in America. I don't know if it is haraam or not. Working off the books is cheating the system. America needs tax revenue to function. But sometimes you have to do what you have to do to survive. I know plenty of people who work off the books. I could talk all day on the subject. I did at one point but like I said you have to do what you have to do to survive. I would not advise working off the books forever. Some Muslim brothers do this. I have seen several sisters hit the community begging because their husband died and NEVER paid into the system (Social Security) so there were no survivor benefits for the children. If you do get paid under the table you can self report something even if you under report your earnings. Even though that is still cheating the system something is better than nothing.
  11. Can someone provide links where I can read about tattoos being permissable? I already have some and am planning on getting some more. Is there a such things as tattoos that are disliked? Like, would it be a sin to have a verse from the Quran tattooed on you? The next ones I want are of my children's names.
  12. Make a long story short.......I will be getting my mortgage loan originators license this fall. I was contacted by a brother in my community about possibly working for his company. How haram is it really to work in this business? I've read many things concerning fatwas on the topic. Some say it is not allowed, other's say if you don't have any choice, then there is the condition that you don't take out more that what you are approved for and must pay it off quickly (no 30yr loans). Please advise.
  13. I'm planning a picnic for the start of Ramadan where we (Muslims friends of my community/facebook) will go to the top of a mountain and sight the moon for Ramadan. I made this suggestion on facebook and all hell just broke loose. 1. People are saying that there is no need to do such because Saudi Arabia has already said what day it is going to be on. 2. People jumped in on the above saying that we don't follow wahhabis (oh lord........). 3. People are saying that I (a woman & non scholar) am not qualified to sight the moon. 4. People jumped in on the above saying give proof, lol. 5. People are saying that you don't have to be a scholar to sight the moon, just be a Muslim man. 6. Next, the haram police swooped in and said that having a moonsighting picnic is bidah. 8. The observation tower at the top of this mountain just happens to have a 56 foot statue of a Greek idol on it. That too was cited as haram by the haram police. So what is the fiqh of moonsighting?
  14. I'm going to make a long story very short, and then I will come back tonight and give y'all the long story. In short, how can a sister go about "Islamically" divorcing her husband? They are not legally married. There was no wali, marriage contract, or mahr when she got Islamically married to her now husband. I'm assuming (I could be wrong, I don't know, that is why I'm asking) that all she has to do is have an imam/wali notify this brother that he is dismissed.
  15. I think I'm going to take all my profiles down and just chill until after Ramadan. This is really just too much trouble meeting all these goofballs.
  16. I don't even know how to start this update off. I met an Indian brother and am unmoved about the fact that he doesn't want to see me again (I'm glad). But I'm am over here lol'ing at the reason because it is ridiculous and y'all really need to learn to put culture behind y'all. To make a long story short, the FB rumor is that he was bothered by the fact that I showed up to dinner with too much gold on. Apparently over there when young ladies meet potentials, if they have on a lot of gold that means she will expect a high dowry/is high maintenance.
  17. To tell you the truth I'm not sure if I am considered religious or not. For some reason people (those who are not that religious) think I'm very religious because I cover, stay in the house, & am always volunteering at the masjid. But I am not that knowledgeable in the deen. All of my salafi friends consider me to be not that religious. So far all of the websites are pretty equal. I don't know about any messages being monitored. I've always been able to share my contact information in messages.
