Happened on to a site for Seventh Day Adventists. Quite interesting, actually awesome. As a child I remember asking my Father about the difference in our religions, and the only thing was they worship on Saturdays, we worship on Sundays. I don't think I even asked why. This was small town Ontario, and their colony was on the other side of the Indian reservation a few more than a few, and a couple more years ago, but I remember them as very nice people, easy to distinguish, like Mennonites, or (out here) Hutterites. Hutterites I'm not sure about yet, but SDA's or Mennonites were always easy and pleasant to meet. Hutterites sell really good over sized but not GMO'd chickens in one colony, eggs in another, and AAA, ( a unique world standard) grade beef, they all sell veggies, I just haven't grasped their full beliefs yet.
If I may,
I received an email the other day I thought was rather humorous in a "too bad it's almost true" kinda way, not to mention it was only hundreds of miles away from my little home town with a Calvary Baptist church. To quote Emo Phillips, about 25 years ago...
Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump.
I said, "Don't do it!"
He said, "Nobody loves me."
I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"
He said, "Yes."
I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?"
He said, "A Christian."
I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?"
He said, "Protestant."
I said, "Me, too! What franchise?"
He said, "Baptist."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Baptist."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region."
I said, "Me, too!"
Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879,
or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912."
I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.
It's too bad the Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879 are so prejudice. Imagine if the rest of the world was like that, where would we be?

Hi Baqar,
Quote from Post 95:
Let us forget the past and try to make a new beginning.
Arguing hard but doing so as politely as we can?
Response: --- Good advice. --- You are doing the best you can to keep things harmonious. --- You are like a mother trying to separate her children and keep them civil to each other, --- and it is working pretty well.
However, you didn’t explain what a ‘creep’ is. --- I looked in the dictionary for a secondary meaning but there was no identification of a type of person.
However it did give the terms, ‘feeling creepy,’ or ‘getting the creeps.’
When posters come on with a negative or aggressive attitude, the first is to figure out where they are coming from, and who they seem to hate the most.
A number of them criticize Christians for what is written in the OT, not realizing that it was the eventual failure of the people of the OT that gave reason for the New Covenant, which is the New Testament Message.
It says in the Book of Hebrews, which was written to Jews, who were first called Hebrews. --- Hebrews 8:
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.
8 Because finding fault with them, He (God) says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—
9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
“I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts.” --- This refers to the Holy Spirit that dwells within the true Christian, this is where the term “Born again” comes from, it really means ‘to be born spiritually’.
--- Jesus said this to Nicodemus in John 3:
1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is ‘born again,’ he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
I see you as a reasonable person so I like to tell you the simple reason Christians are spoken against. --- But all discussions about Jesus should come from the NT.
Thanks again for your ‘moderating’ effort.

Hats off to the parents who named their son Napoleon Einstein!
What more can you want for your child?
That he should be an emperor and also the greatest mind in the world - all rolled into one?
There is no example in history of an emperor with such an exceptional brain or a man of extraordinary wisdom in such high office.
Good luck, lad.
May your parents' wishes come true.
Apparently, he also plays cricket.

Well, one of the first things I learned in HR class was that 75% of a rumor us true.
first off, anything, just about anything is prettier than my piece of Alberta right now.
Not being into skiing, I haven't taken the time to figure out which peak is which in the array that obscures my entire vision of the Pacific ocean.
I'm sure, to those you overheard, flights are at least that simple, but not for me. Aeroplan's best was two days down and two days back with more than a 6 month notice.
I don't like US airports. Besides security, security, security, and security, you get home and there's always a note in your luggage says customs went in and sniffed your dirty underwear.
This year I fly like the angels, (almost)...direct, but we don't land on the beaches, (as you would be skidding over hundreds of bikinis and umbrellas), so it's the airport, but I know how to get from there to the isla without buying a timeshare, so I'm okay.
Forget beaches anyway. My wife can sit and burn while reading a book, and I tried it once but I kept looking over the book into the gulf and thinking of how many fish I was not catching. I have Alfonso on speed dial and we're fishing within the hour.
You should come.

You are right indeed
But considering the multiple versions of Islamic history around and the many interpretations of the Quran among the many different strains of Islam, of the 3 billion Jews/Christians of the world, only a very small handful can be expected to have a reasonable opportunity to learn about true Islam.
Add to all that confusion the fact that the current generation of Muslims are behaving so badly in today's world and thereby misrepresenting Islam, most non-Muslims can, at best, get only a distorted picture of Islam. and no more.

Let everyone take comfort in their own musings.
Come to think of it, the whole world is, from God's point of view, a lost place, we Muslims being at the top of the list.
But I had a dream last night.
I managed to steal into one of Gabriel's many villas and heard a very promising rumour.
I was told that heaven is prettier than Alberta.
Your apartment, I was told, looks on to Mount Whistler and there is a fast hourly fight to the beaches of Mexico.
You got to go if you want to let my dream was true.

Of course, people should think for themselves.
Those days are gone when the whole of England was expected to be Protestant just because Henry VIII had fallen out of the Church.
And when the whole of France was expected to be Catholic because that was the choice of the King.
Today, England is still largely Protestant and France largely Catholic. The same goes for Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and all the rest.
We think we are making our own choices but the fact is that we are still sticking to the choices made by our forefathers hundreds of years ago.
Even today, we are not truly thinking for ourselves.
We should make use of our new freedoms by thinking for ourselves and making our own choices.
But thinking for yourself is quite different from the unending warfare, which is what is happening all over the Internet.
The Internet is only 20 years old. This is only the beginning.
And in this short period, the Internet has become a breeding house for more and more hatred between human beings.
Do you really think all this will lead to peace in the world?

We should not make rude statements for any reason whatsoever.
We can argue with people and I agree that arguments can occasionally lead to off-track remarks.
But, as I said, I believe that should not be the rule.
That is a good attitude but it does not justify rudeness.

Does Islam require that you speak politely to some non-Muslims and not others?
How long have you known Son of Placid?
I think if you speak to him properly, you will find him much more willing to hear you out.
Give him a chance. Try it out.
This is what the Quran says.
[41:34] The good deed and the evil deed are not alike.
Repel the evil deed with one which is better, then lo! (you will find) that the one who was your enemy is now your bosom friend.

I am glad to hear that. Keep up the spirit.
I can understand that occasionally, there will be differences and even some bitterness and a clash of swords. I am sure I have, on occasion, also clashed with various non-Muslims in the forum but that should be the exception, rather than the rule.
By and large, we should all try to be as forbearing as we possibly can.

No I am not.
I know you pretty well by now. I have generally found you quite light-hearted though not exactly faint-hearted.
If need be, you know when to put on your gloves.
The good thing is that your style of English usage is not everyone's cup of tea.
And therefore, bad stuff, if ever it does come from you, could pass by unnoticed.
However, my impression is that you have shown no inclinations to denigrate any religion.
But that does not hold true of everyone.
There are lots of really mischievous and malicious people in the world and in the Internet.
Unfortunately, I have gotten used to doffing and then donning my hat again several times.
But I continue to believe that over the long haul, the overall outcome of all this kerfuffle is not very positive.

It is an unending discussion.
I just don't understand how any Christian or Muslim could really enjoy it.
If I was Secretary General of the United Nations, I would have fought for the introduction of a powerful police system to monitor all discussion boards and blogs on the Internet.
Contrary to the needs of civilization, no one ever thought of policing the Internet when it was created.
But one is needed very badly.
I am sure you have heard of the butterfly effect.
It posits that the flap of a butterfly in New Mexico could end up in an earthquake in China.
That is what these discussions are capable of.
How I reminisce of the good old days when talking about religion was taboo like talking about forbidden sex.
Despite all the wars we fought, good days they were indeed!

In every war involving deaths there will inevitably exist bereaved mothers, sisters and daughters. This unfortunate reality is never given an emphasis in every battle because its an evident and expected reality; whilst in the case of our Prophet's battles its given the most emphasis purely out of hatred.
What I like most about our hadith literature is the down-to-earth reality displayed in it, which gives no doubts as to whether there have been hagiographical edits (as in the case of Jesus' status in the apocryphal gospels). One example of this is the mention of how Safiyya (ra) was initially furious at our Prophet for the death of her dad and hubby. Good thing this initial bitterness went a different course:
"Ibn Umar narrated: In the eye of Sayyida Safiyya was a scar. The Holy Prophet said to her: "What is this scar in your eye". She said "I mentioned before my husband that I saw a moon falling into my lap in a dream so he slapped me and said, 'do you long for the King of Yathrib?'". She said "There was none more hateful to me than God's Messenger as he killed my father and husband. But the Prophet explained, 'O Safiyya your father instigated the arabs against me and did so and so..'. He kept on explaining until that feeling (of hatred) vanished from me." " - (Tabarani Kabeer, Hadith 19668, Authentic according to Al-Albani)

Hi Quick
It is OK but I have my own way of doing things andif I am in the wrong, my Lord will punish me.
Thanks anyway.
Hi Netzari
Apparently you did not read the last post I addressed to you.
Islamic history (or its various versions) is full of distorted material.
The fabrication was necessary in order to sustain the split that took place in Islam immediately after the Prophet.
If they hadn't fabricated things, the spilt would have to be reversed.
So it began with a trickle and turned into a sustained flood.
Keep reading, brother.
As I said, there is a lot of hype there.
Did you read the material in ISLAM-101 I had suggested?
Tabari and other historians of Islam were not necessarily bad people.
But do you know where they got their material from?
From people who
denied the Prophet's daughter her inheritance and who brought pain and suffering to his progeny for 250 years and who almost decimated his entire family at Karbala half a century after his death. Perhaps you should also read a brief account of the tragedy of Karbala if you haven't done so.
http://www.shiachat.com/forum/topic/234920152-tragedy-of-karbala-for-jewishchristian-friends/
And don't forget to read the material I have suggested earlier, if you haven't done so.

The Quran proclaims dozens of times that God is just. That being the case and assuming that Islam is the right religion, do you really believe that He will send someone to hell for being born in another religion? After all, it was God who put you into the womb of a non-Muslim mother.
Next question - Will He ask such a person why, after not being born in Islam, he did not convert to the right religion?
That is possible
But only if there is overwhelming reason to believe that he did not do so despite sufficient evidence being available to him.
Also please note that God's understanding of "sufficient" evidence is not within the reach of human beings like you and me.
And also remember this.
God judges His creation on a large corpus of things. And He is also Forgiving more than your mother.
In general terms, the paramount requirement is belief in God andgood actions - both to be judged by God, not us humans.
Rejection of the one God, the Cherisher and Provider, places you at some risk.
So have no worries.
If do not find sufficient reason to swap, just stay where you are.
God will by no means abandon you.
And lastly, one more thing. Remember also this.
Muslims will not be given any credit for being born in the faith.
And very importantly, no one can pre-empt God's decision.
I hope I have been able to explain myself and that you have understood what I meant.
