Sunni praying Jummah prayers at a Shia Mosque - What to expect?
Mightyservant and 2 others reacted to saberrider for a topic
Salam, everyone. Eid Mubarak. I am Sunni Hanafi. I have prayed multiple times (Asr and Maghreb) before at a local Shia mosque/Imam bargah here in Karachi. I have prayed with jamaat while i pray the Sunni way. Eid's 3rd day is on a Friday, so I thought of going and praying Jummah prayers for the first time at a Shia mosque. For those who arent in the know, Pakistan has deep Sunni-Shia divide. Over the years, Shia community in Pakistan has been targeted with deadly force for their religious beliefs. And our authoritarian/hybrid govt doesn't do much to end the differences. And i try to bridge the gap by showing that its A-OKAY to pray in a Shia mosque. Actions mean more than words sometimes. What should I expect? Can someone break it down for me ? How many rakats in total ? How many sermons? Please write and guide me here. Or share a link that encompasses it all . Thanks3 points -
The adhan takes place at the normal time. The khutba starts straight after the adhan (the Sunni Brothers usually pray the sunnah prayers during this time) The 2-rakat prayer starts once two sermons have been delivered (both rakaats have a Qunut in them, in the 2nd rakat the Qunut is after ruku) In most cases the Asr prayers will be performed soon after the 2-rakat Friday prayer. In Friday prayers this trend is sometimes reserved. The Shia prefer to recite Suratul Jumuah in the first rakat and Suratul Munafiqoon in the second. The brothers from ahl us sunnah often recite shorter suwar in the Friday prayers. However none of these are based on strict rules as such and can differ from one mosque to another.3 points

https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/philadelphia-eid-al-fitr-event-shooting.amp If youre in America, and this is just a suggestion, a gun is cheap and easy to get if you have a clean record. Training is also cheap. Look up your local laws beforehand. Places of worship and religious events are common places that get attacked and shot up. Cases like these are on the rise. You never know if this might happen to you. It surprises me that many don’t own a gun. I know a lot of Shia mosques don’t have enough money to hire armed security like churches, but a gun is not expensive. Alhamdulilah Cops were around but this couldve ended badly.2 points -
Wearing a bikini in front of mahrams
ireallywannaknow and one other reacted to hawdini for a topic
I dont understand does this mean they can wear bikinis? Because abu hadi was saying something else I mean you can look at this differently too. Since its giving a boundary wall its giving us the space to see whats appropriate for the situation. Like above when it says except where there is a fear of sin. Its basically saying use your brain. So to give advice as i am a woman. Your sisters feel really comfortable in their home wearing that which is a good thing to me. Since i had a different experience. I would always cover up at home and not show even a bit of leg and even make sure i wasn't showing any curves ,it was really uncomfortable for me and i can imagine this is true for other women too. Maybe your parents think if i give them this freedom here they wont have the urge to wear it outside of the house? I think with these type of things you need to be very careful in your approach with women because you might get the opposite result of what you wanted if you push it down their throat.2 points -

Yea but it was 4 shooters, one with an AR. Im not sure how many were at the event but this couldve ended with 30+ dead. Not sure why bring up one of the wounded was shot by cops. He was one of the criminals that shot up the event. As for your last statement, what do you mean? What is wrong with the good guys having guns? We can pray to Allah during these times and ask for help, but we also should act, and not just sit and cower. If youre sick, do you only pray to Allah and make dua? Or do you also go to the hospital, buy medicine, etc?2 points -
Sunni praying Jummah prayers at a Shia Mosque - What to expect?
saberrider and one other reacted to Hameedeh for a topic
Salam, Brother. Eid Mubarak. Just so you know, because of Wahhabi violence carried out in Shia mosques, if you attend one you are placing yourself in possible danger. Wahhabis are not going to stop what they do because a Sunni might be praying there. If you know that martyrdom is a blessing, then may Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) accept all your worship and prolong your life so that you can be involved in future unity endeavors.2 points -

From what I understand is that Mokhtar allegedly pulled some cunning manoeuvres to achieve some kind of authority and get a cosign from the Imam of the time. I watched the series and he also went to one of Imam Ali's other sons Muhammad Hanafiya ? The leg dude lol in the series he kept moaning about his leg I thought they depicted him to be a bit weak......Lord knows . Anyways the POINT is okay he may have done what he felt was necessary and in the process allegedly been called a liar, some say it was during Taqiyyah times whatever but so what ? If our brothers can make excuses for crimes way worse that were committed against the ahlul Bayt and the Muslim nation of those times by some sahaba 'ohhhh Muawiyah and Ali were both right..they were brothers anyway it was just a little disagreement...radianlahuann' 'ohhh that was a mistake , anyways let Allah judge, you don't know what's in their heart ' Then I'm sorry, we can apply that to Mokhtar. So he was called a liar ? Does anyone accept him as an infallible or part of the ahlul bayt? Nah he was just a regular dude that did what he thought was necessary at the time ..he took worldly revenge on criminals. Kind of like a vigilante Assassin. Again I'd take mukhtar Thaqafi over a Khaled bin Waleed . And definitely would not condemn a man like Mukhtar if some of the brothers are using it as some kind of leverage to try and point out flaws in shia belief. (EVEN IF IT IS WRONG LOL FIRSTLY PEOPLE HAVE TO CALL OUT THEIR OWN ) pot calling the kettle black. It's like selling your guy out. Big him up may Allah forgive him for his shortcomings. I'd like to know what any later Imams said about him ? Apparently imam Sadiq (a) cosigned him, am I right ?1 point -
Wearing a bikini in front of mahrams
hawdini reacted to ireallywannaknow for a topic
I agree, I would approach it from an angle of not trying too hard to emulate western culture and fashions bc it is very corrupt. There is no logical reason to wear a bikini to swim and actually, a lot of women are extremely uncomfortable wearing bikinis but bc they feel the cultural pressure and they don't know that there are alternatives, they wear it anyway or just don't swim. In college when I was showing my friends some pics of "burkinis" they got so excited and said they would love to wear that. I don't believe the op's sisters have to go to that extent of modesty in the privacy of their homes but just wear something that makes practical and logical sense to swim in while also aligning with the fitrah (which is to not be naked in front of one's brothers). Swim shorts and a swim T-shirt would fit the bill for me. Basically, encourage them to think independently and not follow western culture for the sake of fitting in.1 point -

Oh ...so you and your brother just have a random favourite video together on youtube? Are you actually a fan of Kung Fu or you're trolling? If you really want to know the difference ..Northern Praying Mantis style originated in Shandong province in Northern china and the style came about when a dude saw 2 praying mantis insects fighting and decided to mimmick their movements ...southern praying mantis I'm guessing came from the south and im not too familiar with it because I've only recently had a slight obsession with their videos and one of my friends used to attend their classes years ago but said he quit after a few months because it was too intense for him lol..I can understand why though. Anyways northern practitioners use the mantis claw in their stance and for attacks too I recently came across a document where some guy claims he has studied the correlation between southern praying mantis students and a more tougher upbringing or something like that...I think he was alluding to something like the more orthodox salafi leaning ...I will have to read over it again but it was a peculiar comparison. From what I have seen, southern is more focused on up close combat and their punches are some of the craziest lighting strikes there are , but northern style kicks are apparently more effective ...if anyone else knows more please feel free to correct me There is a whole documentary on YT about southern Vs northern mantis styles if you're really that interested1 point -

Ignore the politics brother. This is about muslims defending themselves. How many more mosque shootings do we have to go through? How many more have to die? This is your duty as a man. If you’re afraid and cant overcome, inshallah you overcome the fear. As for the ones not afraid, buy a gun. There is nothing wrong with it. This is needed now more than ever. Those 15 year old extremists wont stop btw. More and more will commit acts like these. At the end of the day, it’s your life and choice. My choice is to own multiple weapons to protect myself, my family, and those around me. It’s your duty.1 point -

Ive seen documentaries of this in iran and iraq Id be interested to see how you would pull this off if Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) took all your rizq away from you. Would you be able to pay for shelter and stuff, i dont think so. Its easy to judge when youre not in their situation. Also the point of these documentaries is to show how vulnerable these women are and that they need help. We dont need people constantly explaining what mutah is.1 point

Sunni praying Jummah prayers at a Shia Mosque - What to expect?

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) bless your intention and accept from you. I could not say what climate to expect in a shia mosque in Pakistan but I can say that here in the west shia mosques are pretty open to non shias, I would even say there are most welcoming. Not really brother. Not only daily prayers are slightly different due to du'a qunut, but Friday prayer is even more different, with a qunut before ruku` in the first raka`a and a qunut after ruku` in the second. @saberrider Other than that, same thing : two khutab before namaz, the second may be very short and only be a few dua and salawat on Prophet and his family (sawas). Also, do not expect effort on long surahs, Shia peshnamaz tend to go straight to the point. I always thought you were Shia btw1 point -

I believe this to be true in this case, but of the five people who were injured, two were injured by police - a teen was shot by the officer who was arresting him, and a child was hit by a police car. The article I read earlier today listed the persons in the article you've posted, and another teen who was injured and transported himself to the hospital. More shooting would have just meant more injuries or even deaths. I'm not opposed to people owning firearms, but I am opposed of the "good guy with a gun" ideology.1 point -

Which Hadith Books Are Considered Reliable To Shia

None of our hadith books are 100% Sahih. But the more reliable ones worth mentioning would be Kitab al-Kafi, Man La Yahdurhu al-Faqih, al-Istibsar and Tahdhib al-Ahkam. Those are our main 4 books, al-Kutub al-Arba`a. Some other notable collections are Basa'er al-Darajat and Kitab Sulayn b. Qays and, of course, the famous Nahjul Balagha (Not really a hadith book per say, but contains nice speeches and sayings of Ali [a.s] ). (wasalam)1 point -

Panzerwaffe reacted to 145_turbo_16V for a topic
Salam Saberrider sahb, is this your story or are you posting someone else's story? Also if you ask a lot of Sunnis they will say that "how do you know what was going to be written? You shias have wild imaginations". I've talked to so many of these types before. They will say "even if Rasullullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was going to appoint someone, it would be Abu Bakr". But the fact is, many deny that leadership was on Rasullullah's (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) mind and that he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) left it to the ummah. But if you look at Ibn Hajr's Fath Al Bari you will see under the keyword kitaban, he writes, it was about leadership. Now this DOESN'T PROVE Imamah or khilafah BUT, it does prove that there are sunnis who believe that the question of leadership was on Rasullullah's (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) mind.0 points -
