  1. To be determined by the sighting of the new crescent moon. UPDATE: In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful Announcement Concerning: The Crescent Moon of the Month of Jumada al-Ula, 1444 A.H. اضغط هنا لملاحظة بيان هلال شهر جمادى الأولى ١٤٤٤ هـ To the respected believers in North America, Peace be upon you. The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Saturday, November 26th, 2022 will be the first day of the month of Jumada al-Ula, 1444 A.H. for the entire region of North America. This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Thursday, November 24th, 2022 in any region of North America. Therefore, Friday, November 25th, 2022 will be the last day of Rabi al-Akhir, 1444 A.H. We ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and to hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p). On behalf of the Crescent Committee, Sayyid M. 2. Assalamu Alaykum! This post might be a tad convoluted, for that I’m sorry, but circumstances and influences can be a bit hard to explain, so thank you for bearing with me. I want to partake in more religious community events due to the barakah that I may be able to accumulate and fundamentally provide my heart an outlet to express my love for our religion and specifically the ahl-ul bayt. I know I’m not alone in this, but it certainly feels like I’m starting from scratch to find a solution for this. Obviously, first by asking Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) for guidance on this matter, but in what I’m beginning to do now, which is to communicate to others about this. And I think this matter may increase rapidly and I want to make sure I have a network and plan when it does. I’ve been attending the mosque with regularity (ahlul sunnah establishment and the only mosque in our city). When I first reverted in 2006, this is the kinda brothers I started around, so I feel like I understand them. At the same time, I love so many of the aspects and disciplines and schools of thought so much, in my conception of community, I would NEVER want to do or say anything that would make another believer in Allah and His Messenger to feel sad, rejected, or turned away. Consequently, I don’t want anything to attract the ire of a community who’s articles of formation clearly stated they are not here for me. However, in my faith, my responsibility it to Allah, I WILL BE ASKED! Many things in this world will testify with me or against me and I want to be sure I’m accumulating the right things even if I don’t live where the shia have populated in larger numbers. (Of course, I’m looking at addressing this on a larger scale as well, if you have any recommendations on that, please share!) Now, a portion of my background lies in managing, repairing, and assisting in libraries and law libraries. So, naturally, when I saw the book holdings at the mosque, and that some of the books are hard to get and behind glass (I actually cut myself on one), I prayed and had a profound proclivity to just step up and help with this. Which, actually, I’m somewhat embarrassed that a building which claims to be a mosque would allow to lapse the management of the source of our knowledge, books! I want to be the change I want to see in my community. This is my mission. This past Sunday, when helping to tidy up, I had noticed many books (All shia texts) were piled up and placed in bags. They were not given the good graces of being retained on a dirty and unkept bookshelf. (Bro, like, fr, I found a doc in one of the books from over 10 years ago. A fundamental text. I thought, “Man, has THIS book not been picked up in 10 years???) Anyway, back to these Shia books, I’m looking through them (most I already have) and I notice that an inscription is written in a few of the books as being from Az-Zahara Mosque (The nearest shia mosque over 100 miles away). I’ve made multiple attempts to go by the Az-Zahara Mosque by the way. Last time I was there the mailbox was lying on the ground and gates locked. But, then, here it was, this was the proof of life that other shia exist within some sort of radius and they’re fundamentally trying to build communication with the mosque in my city. I don’t want to rock the boat, but I know they don’t want these books in there. I’m also trying to find shia brothers to invite them to form our own gatherings. I certainly do not feel as though it would be blameable on me to take the shia texts for safeguard and safekeeping (because I’ve witnessed in the past first-hand these wahabis destroy our books). However, is it? Is my influence outside involvement? Am I wrong if I take the community books for safekeeping even if they are not being respected and given place on the shelf? I know it can seem like such a small thing, but the implications are certainly meaningful. I mean, certainly, Allah is the Best of Guides, if it is meant for these books to be disrespected, disregarded, degraded, then no amount of “safekeeping” means anything. At the same time, I don’t want to place them on the shelf and cause issue or “flag” myself as “one of those brothers”. But I also don’t want the bear the responsibility of being a flippin coward because they’re bringing harm to texts that contain wisdom that has saved my very life! AND THIS IS AMERICA!!! Not to be pegged as some patriot, I’m certainly not, I’m a native whos people have beared the brunt of corrupt federal policy. But, my point is I find it hard to sit still when they take religion from the companions, but religion from the Holy family (RDSC) are placed in bags. It’s like, yeah, I’m free to practice my religion, but I’m not free to practice my religion HERE. If they put our books in bags, what do you think would happen if I showed up with a turbah and prayed with my hands at my sides??? In retrospect, I don’t fully know what I’m trying to get out of this post. In a certain respect, I’m just venting because I don’t feel like I have any brothers around me and that hurts. I want some place to go to recite the Quran. I want to go someplace where we can engage in conversations about hadith. Where remembering Ashura would be accepted; where the words of Islamic scholars are valued; their works given proper space and attention; where community mentors who specialize in Islamic and worldly science can be contacted for consultation. Till then, I’m just going to keep working on myself to be the change I want to see. I welcome feedback, guidance, and things to reflect upon. May Allah hasten the return of Imam Mahdi (RDSC) and may Justice be spread!

  3. Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatuh everyone I am a very recent revert from portugal. i took my shahada in september and started to learn how to pray the five fard salah's . I feel like Allah ( (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى)) has guided me and i am very thankful for it , however i also feel a lot of times that i am not doing well enough as i am always trying to do more and more to please Allah ( (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) ), i don't know arabic but have managed to memorize surah al fatihah , surah al - ikhlas and surah al-nas , currently working on memorizing ayatul kursi. Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) has already helped me to quit some haram things i used to do like smoking and drinking ( mashallah ) but still everyday i learn some hadith that makes me feel like i'm never gonna be able to go to jannah ... i live and take care of my elderly grand mother who is a disbeliever and she does not know i accepted islam as i feel it would create arguments and a lot of misunderstandings between us. i take care of her because she does not have a very good relationship with my mother ( her daughter ) and she cannot move about by herself and needs help doing almost everything , i love her very much even though she does not believe in Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) or any one god . in fact most of my family don't believe so none of them know i reverted to islam( only my sister because i knew she would not judge me like the rest of the family, she has been very supportive ). I feel hot when praying to Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) , not sweaty hot but i feel warmth usually when focused in my salah and i have some bad thoughts about that maybe Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) is telling me i'm destined for hellfire or something similar... I own a dog in my house who i adopted two years and a half ago and i don't have outside (its an apartment ) and i love him as one would love a best friend. he has helped me through some very tough times the past two years and i will not give him away but am afraid Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) will punish me for it. I have gone once to the masjid to pray ( because with my grandma sometimes it's difficult to find time to go to the masjid ) and it was very rewarding i felt very close to Allah . I am writing because everyday i have these thoughts probably from shaytan, that Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) will not enter me into jannah because i am transgressing in some things. I am doing a lot of effort to be better and do more and learn more but still most days i get overwhelmed... i feel alone because i don't have any muslim friend and i hope maybe someone can help me here . Thanks to all who read this. Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatuh and salutations to the Prophet(صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) who delivered Allah's(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) message

  5. Salam Alaikum , re modern day idols - would you count social media / career (read below) among these We don’t really worship statues/idols as such nowadays. Yet we tend to find comfort, purpose, direction, distraction / relaxation in social media / careers . I’m not say don’t have a career but we’re willing to possibly compromise our belief system / worship for the sake of the above . Whereas God said remember me frequently / all the time we remember Him infrequently / conveniently . Therefore are our careers / social media becoming our idols in a way . An example - do we get stressed when we are late for an appointment ? Do we get stressed when we are late for Salah . As the world’s outlook moves from theism towards a modern philosophical outlook whatever that maybe but usually one that disassociates from religion - are these the modern day idols that we put our faith in rather than God ?

  8. Salam according to Shia islam & moderate Sunnis if they are from people of book likewise Christians so then we don't categorize them as unbelievers which you must keep their respect & also try to serve them better than before your conversion even try to fix the relation between your mother & your grandmother which below story is story of a new revert which has been in similar situation of you. "You did not know what the Book was, nor what the faith was, but We made it a light guiding thereby whom We please." (42:52) The Imam said: “Thus God guided you to Islam and illuminated your heart with its light." Then he prayed for me to receive more guidance. Then I informed him that my parents and relatives remained Christian, and my mother was blind. Would it be proper for me to live with them and have relationship? The Imam asked: 'Do they eat pork?' I said 'no'. Then the Imam said: 'There is nothing wrong in your association with them,' and added: 'Take care of your mother and be benevolent to her, and when she passes away, you yourself can arrange her burial.' https://www.al-islam.org/status-mothers-islam-sayyid-muhammad-sohofi/another-recommendation-mother https://rahyafteha.ir/en/2911/advice-imam-jafar-sadiq-s-zakaria-ibn-ibrahim/ https://www.al-islam.org/narratives-veracious-vol-1-murtadha-mutahhari https://www.al-islam.org/anecdotes-ahlul-bayt-murtadha-mutahhari https://www.al-islam.org/status-mothers-islam-sayyid-muhammad-sohofi/another-recommendation-mother

He's a narcissistic, anti-Muslim quack whose quackery and the demagogy appeals to the lowest rabble of the world's intellectual spectrum- the same constituency which tails boggarts like David Wood, Geert Wilders and Trump, along with some 'Muslim' incel-ish beta akh-right TradCons who are ridden with inferiority complex due to being faced with the challenges of modernity and real-life women. 12. Salam. The reason that the Shia books are in bags is because someone doesn't want anyone to read them. Safekeeping is desirable, in my opinion. However, please do not be hasty. Allow others to reply before you do anything.

  13. Salam. Memphis Meats now doing business as Upside Foods sent me an email today. For anyone who thought that their "cultured meat" might be vegan or vegetarian, it's not going to be labeled as such. Their cultured chicken meat is going to be labeled as chicken because it is meat grown directly from animal cells (chicken).

Assalamu alaykum my brother thank you very much for these words, you literally brought me to tears when explaining the mercy of Allah(سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) in regards to my situations, i appreciate you very much brother. I usually pray in my room since my grandma spends a big part of the day in the living room watching TV , i usually am able to do all fard prayers on time , sometimes not exactly on time because she needs my help doing something or going to the toilet etc, and have been doing as most sunnah prayers as i can. My dog is very well trained i have trained him since a he was a little two month boy so he almost never comes near me during my prayers. My room is thoroughly cleaned everyday so with this information you have given me its like a big weight has been lifted. alhamdulillah brother and again thank you for the long message. it was a special one. assalamu alaykum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatuh

  18. I agree I know most girls - probably also 99% - are on social media having conversations with the guys with this intention in mind but chatting casually and I think that’s where the problem is. I feel like the longer the talking stage is the more likely conversations will drift away from the true purpose and feelings will be involved. If a person truly intends to marry and wants to get to know a person they need to state their intentions clearly so there are boundaries within the conversation and no fear of falling into corruption. It would be difficult but you can know a person from social media and move to meeting in person

  20. There's a difference between a temporary withdrawal and a retreat. The Russians withdrew from Kherson because they were worried that the Ukrainian military would bomb the Nova Kakhovka dam, thus preventing energy from the civilians of Kherson and the Russian military. Furthermore, the Ukrainians also had their last weapons from the West that they were going to use. There was still a threat of the Ukrainians starting a new Kherson offensive (since the last one failed) and taking some Russians as prisoners of war (POWs). To prevent this threat, the Russians decided to play safe and withdraw from Kherson. This way, not only would they preserve their troops, but they could continue inflicting damage on the Ukrainian troops from long-distance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_DeH3-H4SQ

  21. It’s fine. You shouldn’t worry about these sorts of things. The whole kurr thing is a guideline about bathing in a tank of water, that there is enough in the tank that the tank water is not contaminated by what washes off you. The shower it’s good. The pressure of the water coming out actually makes the whole “volume of the source” thing kind of moot anyway (it’s not like filth is going to swim upstream, so to speak), but it does also come from a large volume source. So it’s doubly sound. And the pressured water pushes things off you and that water rolls off and down the drain. It cleans you. It’s sufficient. Don’t worry.

What is it about his pathetic behaviour and ideology that appealed to you? If it is his hate and anger at The Other that appealed to you, then you must do some soul-searching and see why hate and anger appeal to you. I hope, once and for all, we can realize how pathetic he is and view him alongside other losers such as his buddy Shapiro.

  24. Alekum Salam wa Rahmatullah, Don't be too hard on yourself if you don't do everything perfect right away. The voices you hear are the whispering of the Shaitan (Satan) and everyone hears these from time to time. Try to just ignore them. I think at this point, it is very important to find a few friends who are practicing muslim. Brothers if you are a brother, sisters if you are a sister. These people should be sincere in wanting to help you progress in your deen and be knowledgeable enough to not teach you wrong things regarding the basics, like Prayer, Fasting, Hajj, Khums, etc. They should not have any alternate or hidden agendas. Another thing is that find resources where you can learn about these things. There are alot of good ones online nowdays. I can post some here. It sounds like your English is good, but also maybe some brothers and sisters in Portugal or Brazil can post some Portuguese resources. I know there are some on here that visit the site regularly. Here are some good ones that I have found. A Code of Practice For Muslims in the West by Sayyid Sistani https://www.sistani.org/english/book/46/ The Revealer, The Messenger, The Message by Shahid Muhammad Baqir As Sadr https://www.al-islam.org/revealer-messenger-message-sayyid-muhammad-baqir-al-sadr The Characteristics of the Just and the Rightly Guided. Selections from Nahjul Balagha. https://www.al-islam.org/articles/characteristics-just-and-rightly-guided-imam-nahj-ul-balagha That's good for now. If you need more I can post. When you read these books, especially the first one you might have question, because he uses some Arabic terms. If you have any questions, please post and I will attempt to answer.

I can laugh because I was locked up for over 10 years and considered a violent criminal. I protected my family and told the truth. So, of course I'd be punished in America! LOL. I'm a Choctaw from the Nation of Oklahoma. I graduated from Haskell Indian Nations University in 2019. Recently, I approached the Imam of our mosque here in Topeka, communicating that I wanted to give back, do more, and be around the brothers. He literally told me to go online. LOL. Should probably spend more time searching around and reading, but just like anything else with life, I'd do better when I'm guided lol. I started with an online tutor to work on my tajweed recently. I'm trying to make more time in my life to get back to studying the religion as I once did. If money wasn't an object, I'd rather spend my time raising my family, worshipping God, studying the deen, and helping others. Doesn't everyone??? LOL The age of materialism is beginning to eclipse. What is important will become more valuable than ever before. I'm grateful just for the opportunity to be alive, make the prayer, and recite the Qur'an. A time is coming when those who travel light will be blessed!

  30. Everyone is talking about whether or not it'd be halal to consume lab grown 'meat,' but no one is asking if that thing would be meat in the first place, and whether it would be safe to consume? Even regular animals raised on chemically altered feed in artificial environments isn't healthy to consume in the long term. Personally, I only count pasture raised and grass fed animals and birds as proper meat, but it's becoming harder and harder to afford especially in countries where natural farming is a fringe activity.

    Lab grown real meat

But it will be expensive. Most of us will not be eating lab grown meat anytime soon. It will only become accessible when it can be mass produced and when the prices of real meat go up to a restrictive level. Even vegetarian meat substitutes are expensive when compared to non-halal meats, and they will be as long as the demand is small. We Muslims are just used to paying more for our meats so the vegetarian substitutes seem reasonable to us.

I was pretty sure it had been discussed here before, but I didn't find your topic in a search. Right now the question is purely hypothetical, but with the movement toward more environmentally friendly living, meat is going to increase in price, and in time lab grown meat will be improved and then mass produced. It would be good to have scholars studying this before it becomes an issue, but they're still divided on cheese and that has existed as long as agriculture.

Saudi might have many growth trajectories, but emulating China is not one of them. Nothing against Saudi, but there are lots of reasons why the two countries don't compare. He'd be better off thinking about smaller countries more simllar to Saudi with lots of natural resources and large proportion of overseas workers etc. I can't think of any. I am a bit surprised by this.

  42. So when I read the title of the question, I thought it was asking how can Shias lead in making Islam more appealing to Western and American people in general so that Islam captures a bigger piece of the overall religious identity pie. But it looks like it’s much smaller ambition, just wondering how we can have a larger piece of the 1-2% Muslim slice. For that, I don’t know. More of the good experiments I guess? Centers that are open more often and that operate mostly in English or whatever the language of the local people. Additional accessible local language content up on the internet. A focus on topics that are relevant to the younger generations which are most closely is connected to the local people. Just more more more. As for the question I thought you were asking, how does Islam become more broadly appealing to Americans? Like 10%, 20%, 30%, and so on? Answer, I don’t see that happening in the current legalistic form of Islam. The heart, the core of ideas is simple, sound, and beautiful. But the law system that appears when you get beyond that requires a sweeping overhaul to dig down to deeper universal bedrock principles and then apply those to the current context to actually be universally relevant to people. Women’s issues being a huge part of that. Life has changed a lot. Fiqh hasn’t kept up. Now this is the point in the script when the usual suspects people predictably deliberately understand this to mean, “Oh, you want to change the religion to align with people’s whims, etc…” No. But we’re claiming Islam is a universal religion for all times. But a lot of what we think of as shariah is not resonating with the people. There are a lot of unappetizing details, and overall it’s wrapped up in an air of arcane obsession with minutiae over the big picture. Now you can interpret that reaction of modern people in one of two ways. You can cynically say, oh, it’s the people who are the problem. These moderners are just fundamentally depraved. Or, or you recognize, hey, these people are good people, overall, their hangup isn’t necessarily the idea of God, or justice, or prophethood, or moral behavior, or prayer, or charity, or accountability for our actions. Maybe we’re just out of touch with the details of what a life lived in the spirit of Islam means in the 21st century.
