    Haraam becoming Halal

Salam, What are the conditions in which Haraam becomes permissible? Like stealing is allowed when one can't afford to buy food and he feels he might die of starvation. I also read another incident where a woman was extremely thirsty and she felt she was going to perish from dehydration. The Arab who had water asked her to sleep with him in return for water which she did and Imam Ali (as) said she didn't commit any crime. Allah says in Quran: But whoever is compelled by hunger, in inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving Merciful,’ - (5:3) So is hunger the only condition when haram becomes permissible? Does the hunger need to be of that grade that the person fears for his life for haram to become permissible? What if a person steals to feed his family? Is it solely on the person's own judgement ? In the two examples I gave above what would have been better in the eyes of Allah? To die of hunger/thirst? Or steal/commit fornication in return for food? Any other instances you know from the Islamic history where something haram was forgiven/permissible? Thank you.

Brother, I know the Australian media very well. Andrew Bolt supports him because they don't like Islam and he wants to find fault with Islam. At the same time, we Muslims do not have the unity and initiative to try and undo their work.
  6. 3 points
Yeah man even in Australia, I don't understand why the media is providing Tawhidi a platform to speak for Islam. I mean, what gives them the right to decide who should speak for Islam. Anyways, only misguided people would follow such suspicious characters. I feel saddened when Shias can't recognize which leaders to follow. Yassir Al Habib and Tawhidi have no difference. Both are spoiled brats who want to cause hatred within Muslim communities.

    Winning and Losing in Islam

Holy Quran, Chapter 23 (The Believers), Verses 1-5 We live in a society where we are constantly judged and compared to others. This was also the case during the time of Rasoulallah(p.b.u.h). This is because it is in the nature of human being to judge, compare, and rank people based on their character and achievements. In this process of comparison and ranking, some are ranked high and some low, some are considered winners and some losers. Some are considered failures and some sucessful. This sorting, ranking and comparison is usually done by people according to their own personal tastes, likes and dislikes, or the likes and dislikes of whatever society and age they are living in. It is not an absolute comparison and ranking but a relative comparison and ranking based on the mood and thoughts of the people of the time or a particular person. In the Holy Quran, in the Chapter above, Allah(s.w.a) states clearly that there is a ranking, there is winners and losers, but it is based on criteria which is set forth by Allah(s.w.a) and which is absolute and doesn't change from moment to moment and year to year or generation and generation. In this verse, he is making clear to everyone what this criteria is and how winners and losers are determined, in reality. Let's go over these verses of the Holy Quran one by one to see what is, in fact, the true criteria for success. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ Surely, the Believers are successful. The phrase قَدْ in Arabic represents certainty. In other words, whatever statement follows this phrase is unqualified and absolute. It is a marker in the Holy Quran so that those who are reading will pay attention to what comes after it and will be able to have certainty about it. أَفْلَحَ is the objective form of the verb falah, which means success and at the same time receiving the thing that the person was seeking. It is the same word used in the athan 'Haya Al Falah', sometimes translated as 'hasten to true success'. الْمُؤْمِنُونَ. The Believers. This phrase, Al Muminun, which is the name of the Chapter, has a very deep and broad meaning in the religion, but in brief it means those who believe in the phrase 'There is no God but God and Muhammad in the Messenger of God' and put the meaning of this phrase into practice in their lives. How do they put this phrase into practice in their lives, the proceeding verses describe in detail how the Muminun do this.... الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلَاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ 'Those who are sincere in their Salat' The word 'Salat' in Arabic is not the same as the word 'Prayer' in English(The meaning of Prayer in English is the word 'Dua' in Arabic). In fact, there is no word for word translation of the word Salat into English. The approximate meaning is 'the ritual act of worship of God that is obligatory and is done at fixed times during the day and involves a ritual purification before it's beginning....'(this could be extended but I think most of you get the point). It is Salat, not prayer that distinguishes the Muslims from the non Muslims. Every religion has prayer but only Islam has Salat. In this verse Allah(s.w.a) is saying that the Muminum, those who are successful are the ones that do Salat, i.e. the Muslims, and when they do it, they do it with sincerity. They do it with the intention of 'Qurbah' , seeking nearness to Allah(s.w.a) and in that act they make every effort to obey Allah(s.w.a) sincerely by doing Wudu properly, making the prayer on time, praying the proper number of rakats, saying the Surats correctly, etc. It is by this care and attention and patience that they practically demonstrate their sincerity. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ Those who, when they are in the midst of vanity and nonsense, they turn aside from it. Vanity is described in another place in the Holy Quran as scum (13:17 and 23:41) , i.e. that which is carried on the surface of a torrent, but quickly disappears and becomes nothing. It is those things which society tags as very important, but which actually do nothing to push us forward toward our goal of becoming Mumineen and Muminaat, and getting true success. This verse is saying that when the Muminun are surrounded by those things, after realizing they are vanity, turn aside from them. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَاةِ فَاعِلُونَ Those who give Zakat(charity). This is something easy to understand but hard to do. We do not like parting with our money, and we tend to think of it as our own property and the fruit of our own achievement and hard work. We must realize, in order to succeed, that it is actually the property of Allah(s.w.a) and we only received it as a result of Allah(s.w.a)'s Grace and Mercy on us by giving us the time, skills, and insight necessary to gain this money and wealth. If we think of it as the property of Allah(s.w.a) and not our property, and only a trust that is given to us to achieve a certain purpose, then it will be easier to part with. Also, remember you death and the fact that you can either give charity in this life according to the Islamic value and as a result of your own free will, and you will be rewarded for that, or it will be forcibly distributed to others after your death, a process which you will have no control over and won't be rewarded for, since it didn't occur as a result of your own free will and deliberate obedience to Allah(s.w.a). وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ Those who guard their private parts. The ones who limit their sexual desires to their lawful spouse(s). Sexual desire is actually a great benefit given to mankind from Allah(s.w.a), if it is used in the proper way (there are many other verses of the Quran as well as countless hadith that describe in detail how to do this). It is thru this desire that relationships are established and maintain and families and communities are built thru these relationships. Sexual desire is the super glue that holds marriages together and without it, human beings would not have managed to reproduce and expand the population. It is also a great force that can eviscerate families and relationships and tear societies apart. So there are regulations in Islam about how and when to use this desire. If these are practiced properly, they will lead the Muminun to success. There are other verses that go into more detail about how to achieve success. The takeaway from this verse is that society has standards that they use to rank and gauge success and failure, but the true criteria of failure and success is outlined and established by Allah(s.w.a), it is public and accessible, and true success is open to all and achievable, unlike the false criteria of success laid down by society which is only possible and achievable by a few. So if we have to choose, we should choose the way established by Allah(s.w.a).

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2589795/Fears-preacher-stir-race-tensions-Buckinghamshire-village.html My brother you are a respected and knowledgeable member of the Shia chat community, you lose such credibility when siding with those who degrade our Marja and place our shia brothers, sisters and children in the path of suicide bombers with their hateful rhetoric. I have acknowledged that some of what he says maybe true, and satisfies our bloodlust and hatred the enemies of Ahlul Bayt. But we are students and followers of the highest level of Nobilty and Anger control. Our leaders would sheath their swords when there was the slightest chance their own anger might be involved in their actions. Even normal non Muslim people realize he is a hate preacher, but you find it difficult to comprehend?? As far as my other assertions first read the article and do your own research, see what the marajey say about this Khariji, and like his spiritual forefathers who used to say Imam Ali was on the wrong path. The town in which he bought a 2 million £ centre and another 5 million in renovations and houses a state of the art broadcast centre, is less then 20 mins from Windsor Castle and the royal family. LMAO can you guess the firepower and regimental support on the castle grounds which by helicopter would be in his town in less then 6 mins. The best litmus test on who is and is not a Zionist, is to find the enemies of Hasan Nasrallah , if you end up supporting a fiend who curses such a noble leader then my friend you may have crossed over to the dark side. Remember Shaitan will not attack the pious man thru haraam, he will attack thru your piety and love for AHLUL BAYT. Please my brother your comments will damage our youth who look up to you and give credence and credibility to our open enemy.

Question: Is it haram for me to go to to a gym ( a training center for body builders) where women and men both can sign up for training there? It is nearly impossible to find a gym that is only restricted for men, here in Scandinavia (Denmark). How should I act? Answer: It is not allowed. https://www.sistani.org/english/qa/01215/

    Identity Politics

Activists today talk much of identity politics. Identity politics, also called identitarian politics, refers to political positions based on the interests and perspectives of social groups with which people identify. You may have heard people "identify as a gay person", or "identify as a black nationalist", or "identify as a vegetarian", or identify themselves with a certain race, nationality, creed, economic class, or ideology. They are then expected to behave and dress according to the mores of that identity. Discovering oneself is indeed a necessary process in the journey of life. It is common for Westerners to travel around Europe, flirt with Indian mysticism, or teach in east Asia in an effort to "find" themselves. So what is our true Islamic identity? One may say Shia, but to be a Shia of `Ali (a) means much more than to belong to a certain minority community. The Shia are an elite nucleus of believers. One may say Muslim, but even prophets Ibrahim (a) and Isma`il (a) had to pray for Allah to make them into Muslims - submitters to the will of Allah. The answer to this question may be in the famous saying, “Whoso knows his self, assuredly knows his Lord.” There are differences of opinion on the true meaning of this quote, but the commentary of this saying that this servant finds most consistent with the tradition is that of Shaykh al-Awhad Ahmad al-Ahsai. He says that the statement expresses conditionality (ta`leeq) to gnosis. The prophets, messengers, and deputies had a self-awareness, believing that their selves were a part of a grander creation, whose origin is Allah. He cites 41:53, 18:51, and a du`a’ of the 12th Imam that put the nafs alongside the rest of creation as temporal signs of an eternal God. Ahsai brings forward a similar hadith attributed to the Prophet Dawud, in which he says “Whoso knows the ignorance of his self, assuredly knows the strength of his Lord. And, whoso knows the incapacity of his self, assuredly knows the power of his Lord.” This is an expression of the weak, limitedness of man, which thus highlights the strength and capacity of Allah. This means that one must acknowledge the fact that he was created, and therefore, he is a finite and limited being in need of a Creator and Sustainer. One must realize the limits of his own power and his intelligence to understand He who is All-Powerful and All-Knowing. That is the beginning of the process of ma`rifa - cognizance of the Divine - where one surrenders himself in faith and in action to Absolute Perfection. So the true identity that a person must recognize is that they are a created servant who is in total need of God. We say "ashhadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasuluh" in the tashahhud, which acknowledges the servitude of Muhammad (s) to his Lord. This servitude is the key to true greatness, because one who is a slave to God cannot be a slave to worldliness. All people surrender, whether to their own desires or to an outside force, but if one's reliance is completely on Allah, he will be free from obeying others. One who fears only Allah does not fear anything else, which elevates his status in the creation. It is out of Prophet Muhammad's sincere service to Allah that made him the best of creation. Returning to postmodern identity politics: identifying yourself with what you eat or who you have sex with is very shallow. Food and sex are functions of the lower self. Identifying with a race is identifying with an accidental characteristic of yourself rather than your essential nature. As much as these "groups" may be relevant in today's world, we should not be fixated on `asabiyya (tribalism, group mentality), which was the underlining feature of jahiliyya. Identity politics can blind us from ethics, which is rooted more in verbs and adverbs than in nouns and pronouns. It can cause irreparable division and segregation. And finally, it can cause us to lose focus of our purpose and goal: ma`rifa. "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me." (51:56)

    Anxiety OCD and attraction

Bismehe Ta3ala, Assalam Alikum Sister continue to do salat on time and familiarize yourself with the Quran. Have a relationship with your family and forgive yourself dear sis. We all make mistakes, but God loves us and He forgives us we should forgive oursleves too. Here is a video about spending time with family. I think when you remind yourself of what is good you will more likely do it, Insh'Allah. Do you have any favorite speakers you like to listen too? Don't think you are alone. We all struggle, and we can rise to be better and work harder to reach closeness to Allah. Nothing is easy in this life, but Allah knows what He has created and he wouldn't give you something you are unable to pass. Stay focused sis and keep with salat, quran and I would add listen to majalis of Imam Hussain 3la salam. M3 Salamah, FE AMIN Allah

Brother, it has a lot of details. We cannot say OK each son twice each daughter. It depends on whether your father has little child or not? Did your father pay your mother Mahr? Does your father have debt? In this post you can see details. Make sure you follow steps. Brother it is highly recommended to follow Wassiyat at the beginning. Don't postpone it to one or two weeks later. Do it asap. Please also pay attention to your father prays, fasts, and his Kums just in case if he didn't pay, his children can do that now. As a fellow Iranian descent Canadian I feel sorry that logic will not convince you, but Allah SWT I am sure will eventually remove the veils which cloud your vision. Ihtemase Dua my brother. Just because someone practicing a wajib act has other flaws in him/her doesn't lessen the importance of that act. Hijab is wajib.Nothing that Allah made wajib should be considered a triviality.

    Prosperity is in Unity

May be following paragraph from Imam Khomeini's "Adab as-Salat" will help in understanding value of love . The third stage is the purity of the heart, which means submitting the heart to Allah, after which the heart becomes luminous, or rather it becomes of the world of light and a degree of divine light. The luminosity of the heart flows to other organs and inner powers, and the whole kingdom turns into light, and light upon light, till the heart becomes divine and godly and the Divinity [hadrat-i lāhūt] manifests in all the inner and outer stages. In this case, servitude completely vanishes and is annihilated, and Lordship explicitly appears, in which case, the heart of the sālik is overcome by a state of tranquility and familiarity, and he loves the whole world, and experiences divine trances, and the sins and faults become forgivable to him, and will be covered by the shelter of “love manifestations” [tajalliyāt-i hubbī, and primary holiness [wilāyat] begins to appear in him, and he becomes worthy of attending “the Presence of Intimacy” [mahdar-i uns]. Then, there are other stages, mentioning which does not suit these papers.

(*) Ali bin Muhammad: He is Ali bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Kulayni, better known as All'an, al-Najashi said about him: his Kuniyyah (patronym) is Abal Hasan, Thiqah, Ayn (core), he has a book (called) Akhbar al-Qaim (Narrations about al-Qaim), he died on the road to Makkah, he had asked as-Sahib al-Qaim عليه السلامabout (going to) Hajj that year, so it came out (a Tawqi) - 'Stay back this year' but he went against that (and was killed) [Rijal al-Najashi Pg. 260 No. 682] (*) Hamdan al-Qulanasiy: He is Hamdan bin Ahmad al-Qulanasiy, Thiqah by agreement, meritious, great, from the closest of the close (in position to them), al-Kashi said: Muhammad bin Masud (al-Ayyashi) said (about him): Kufan, Faqih (jurisprudent), Thiqah, and his real name is Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Nahdiy. [Mu'jam 10119] and al-Najashi said: Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Khaqan al-Nahdiy, better know as Hamdan, Kufan, Mudhtarib (shaky/mixed in narration) [Rijal al-Najashi Pg. 431 No. 914], so as-Sayyid al-Fuqaha al-Khui answered him saying: shakiness/mixing (Idhtirab) in Hadith does not harm the Wathaqa (trustworthiness) of the narrator, for the meaning of Idhtirab is the lack of upstandingness/meticulousness in narrating the Hadith, so like he narrates from the Thiqah, he also narrates from one who is not, and this does not overrule the Wathaqa (given by al-Ayyashi) (*) Muhammad bin Uthman al-A'miry: He is the second Naib Khass (Appointed deputy) to as-Sahib al-Asr wal Zaman عليه السلام, may my soul and the souls of all those in the universe be ransomed for him, and he is the past Thiqah and the present Thiqah (i.e.always trustworthy), Shaykh at-Tusi said about him: his Kuniyyah is Aba Ja'far, and his father's Kuniyyah was Abu Amru, both were Wakils (agents) of as-Sahib az-Zaman عليه السلام, and they both have a great position in this Taifah (community), and as-Sayyid al-Khui said: the narrations that speak about his merit and the greatness of his position are dispersed (multiple/numerous), among them - what was narrated by al-Kulayni by a Sahih chain to Ahmad bin Ishaq - Abu Ali, that he (Ahmad) asked Aba Muhammad al-Hasan bin Ali al-Askariy عليه السلام: whom should I emulate or from whom should I take and whose words should I accept? So He said to him: al-A'miry and his son are two Thiqah's, so whatever they discharge - they do so on my behalf. [Mu'jam 11247]

    Shia/Sunni Dialogue Rules

Salams Certain topics are not allowed in the Shia/Sunni Dialogue subforum (unless approved by a Moderator/Admin) since both Shias and Sunnis agree on the fundamental principle of those topics/concepts. They include: 1) The Oneness of Allah 2) The Prophethood of our Master Muhammad 3) The completeness of the Holy Quran 4) The importance of Civil and secular unity Following topics are not allowed to be discussed: 1) Claiming that Ibn Saba is the founder of Shiism 2) Praising Muawiya and his son 3) Praising Ibn Taimya Following actions may lead to warning or a possible ban: 1) Not recognizing and respecting each other as Muslims 2) Bumping dead threads 3) Cutting and pasting from other sites or articles - We want original input 4) Slandering or attacking against the first three Caliphs and the Mothers of the believers Furthermore, In Accordance With Shiachat Policy, Banned Members Are Not Allowed To Come Back With Alternate Id'S In An Effort To Circumvent The Ban. As A Result Of Such Action All Posts Under Such Id'S Will Be Deleted Without Exception, As An Effort To Discourage Such Behaviour. No Amount Of Complaining, Or Asking For Posts To Be Excepted, Will Be Heeded, Because It'S Not A Matter Of Whether The Post Is Acceptable, But Rather That The Poster Is Breaking Rules Just By Being Here Please also note: Cursing of the 3 "Caliphs" (Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman by name or number) and of any of the Holy Prophet's (pbuh) wives, as well as Sunni scholars is strictly prohibited. This involves cursing by name, swear words and defamatory language. The Moderator/Admin team also reserves the right to edit/delete or not approve posts or profile comments or ban members in accordance with the application of these rules. Respect is the only way to keep peace between the 2 parties and allow constructive discussions. In response to the bold offering of praise to the enemies of Islam and the Ahlulbayt (for example, praise of Muawiyah and Yazeed by some members on this board), the ShiaChat team have decided to warn (or ban if warnings are exhausted) any member who offers such open praise to these killers of the Ahlulbayt and the pious Companions.

Salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, Lifting the index finger up and pointing it towards Qiblah (makkah, which you're already facing) is done in tashahud, because they say that in hadith that the prophet (saw) used to raise his index finger up too. But I don't know about this hadith's story nor it's authenticity. I don't know actually whether the hadith said the prophet (saw) was seen lifting his finger up one time, or that he always did that. I don't think shia scholars have mentioned you have to do that in prayer. I don't see it's importance either. As far as I know I haven't seen shia's do it. Salam. Edited By Mujahid on 1031646244

When my mum was younger she lived in Iraq. Her family wasn't religious and generally didn't pray. She didnt have internet or religious books. She asked a man how to pray when she was thirteen and he wrote it on a piece of paper for her. For the takbiratul ihram he told her to raise her hands to her ears (which is mustahab) but he didn't tell her to say the words "Allahu akbar". This is a rukn so its said by Sayed Alsistani that she has to repeat it even if she didnt know. Thats 20 years to repeat! How is this fair? She couldn't have realised from someone in her family since they dont pray. She wouldnt have worked it out in school since girls recite salah quietly. And its not like she didn't ask. Has anyone ever asked a scholar about something like this and they answered differently?

    Going to mixed gym

Also I don't go there with the intention of looking at girls or socializing with them in fact i just focus on what im doing and ignore them i had sent this as a question to my marja sayed sistani and he said that its not permissible to go to mixed gyms so I stopped going ( this was a few months ago) but then I emailed a local sheikh in my area and he said "if he doesn't put himself in a risky temptation situation no problem, but better to choose time the gym is safer!" So I began going again until now, i also read the threads on sc about this and I thought it was fine to go sorry for the long post but its just been on my mind for too long!

#19 The Better Floor for the Home?

I have no idea. We have a rug in each of the areas where the children like to sit on the floor and play. All my rugs can either be machine washed, or can be taken outside and cleaned with hose and brush. And none of us ever trip or slip over them.
