By Wes Magruder, Special Contributor, … I woke up at 4:20 this morning, ate four hard-boiled eggs and a blueberry bagel, swallowed down a cup of coffee, and sat down to pray. And I haven’t eaten or had a drink since. The clock reads 6:26 pm, and I still have over two hours to go. This is the first day of Ramadan, the holiest month for Muslims around the world. For 30 days, Muslims fast from all food and drink from sunrise to sunset. Oh, and me, too. I decided to observe Ramadan this year, for a number of reasons which I will explain over the next thirty days. I plan to blog about the experience, too. I have tried my hand at fasting in many different ways over my lifetime, most recently with a regular Friday fast from sunrise to 3 pm. Fasting has never come easy for me – that may be the point!? – but I have certainly come to value the spiritual rigor and discipline of abstaining from food for extended periods of time. We American Christians aren’t really all that good at fasting; it’s never been high on our list of spiritual disciplines. Even in the one season of the church calendar in which we are supposed to fast, Lent, we manage to find ways to minimize and downplay the sacrificial aspect of the fast. We give up chocolate or soft drinks for an entire forty days – woohoo, that should bring us closer to Christ! That’s why I’ve always been fascinated by the extreme fasting that most Muslims practice during Ramadan – no food or drink during daylight for thirty whole days! Recently, I’ve felt a little stale, dry even, in my own spiritual life. I do the normal, daily things; I go through my regular routine of prayer and Bible reading. But it doesn’t seem as rich and as profound. I’ve found myself deeply distracted by things happening in the world, including the great hubbub in the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, concerning the status of the denomination and the fate of our particular bishop. I took a meeting with my good friend, Shaikh Yaseen, the imam (religious leader) of a mosque in Plano, Texas, part of the Islamic Association of Collin County. We have been friends for several years, and recently I attended the dedication of the new wing of the mosque. When I told him that I was considering observing Ramadan, he grinned and said, “Brilliant!” in his British accent. “It’s intense, you know.” I informed him that I was well aware of what such a commitment meant, but asked him to give me a deeper understanding of what it meant. “Ramadan is a fast of the body, of course,” he said. “But even more importantly, it’s a fast of the hands and feet and eyes, and finally, of the mind. It’s a time to become very aware of God and to be completely obedient.” I am intrigued by the fact that “Islam” means “submission,” and that, fundamentally, the Islamic faith is an attempt to practice submission to God’s will on a daily basis. This is not a foreign idea to Christians – this was Jesus’ stated approach, as well. He famously said, in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Not my will, but yours be done.” He also once said that whoever did the will of his Father in heaven, were his brother and sister and mother. The core of both Islamic and Christian faith is the quest to know, and to live within, the will of the one God. Yaseen went on to explain that, during Ramadan, Muslims read through the Quran, make special financial gifts for the needy, and attend prayer time at the mosque daily. It is, in fact, a month of searching, of devotion, of love of God and neighbor. It is a living symbol of one’s hunger and thirst for the true God. That’s what appeals to me in my current spiritual tepidity. I feel as if I need a jolt to my senses. And I know that observing Ramadan will deliver a burst of hungering and thirsting for God – a God whom Muslims call “Allah,” and whom Christians call “Father.” But there’s another reason that I have chosen to “act like a Muslim” over the next thirty days. I truly want to stand in solidarity with my friend, Yaseen, and his congregation in Plano. I want them to know that I do not resent their presence in my community and country. In fact, I am very glad that they are here. Not only do I stand with the Plano Muslims, but I have also begun to make friends with Muslim refugees from Iraq, Somalia, and Sudan. I’ve previously blogged about Mohammed, a young Sudanese Muslim who often attends the New Day Christian community gatherings that I’m involved with. The last time I served him Communion, he asked if he could pray “for the food” first. After he prayed in Arabic, I happily offered him the bread and cup, symbol of Jesus’ love and sacrifice. I get to return the favor now. By turning down food and drink during Ramadan, I begin to wear Mohammed’s shoes, live a small part of his life, and catch a glimpse of his own religious commitments and devotion. I don’t know if I can truly love Mohammed until I do this. I don’t believe that I can truly be Yaseen’s friend until, and unless, I attempt to enter into his story, into his life narrative. I must know what it is like to worship God as a Muslim. Perhaps then I will learn how to worship God … as a Christian.     Sayings Of Imam Ali (as)

    There is no treasure like knowledge. The realm of knowledge has no bounds. The chief of talents is knowledge. Knowledge leads to wisdom, accordingly the educated man is the wise one; riches diminish by expenditure, while knowledge is increased by dissemination. A wise man needs each day an hour set apart in which to examine his conscience, and measure what he has gained or lost. The heart is the source of wisdom, with the ear as its channel. Philosophy is a tree growing in the heart, and bearing its fruit on the tongue. Belief and wisdom are twin brothers; Allah accepts not the one without the other. While you live you die. Each breath of a man is a step nearer death. Death awaits every living creature and everything must end. You are the game that death hunts. If you stand still, it will seize you; If you flee, it will overtake you. Books are the gardens of the learned. The man of learning lives even after his death. The ignorant man is dead, while still alive. The scholar knows an ignorant man, because formerly he was ignorant himself, but the ignorant knows not the scholar, never having been one. He is very unfortunate who cannot in his life-time gain a few sincere friends and sympathisers and more unfortunate is the one who has gained them and then to have lost them (through his deeds). There is no greater wealth than wisdom, No greater poverty than ignorance, No greater heritage than culture, And no greater friend and helpmate than consultation. The strongest man is he who can fight against himself. The strongest man is he who can make his reason conquer his passions. Protect your wealth by means of Zakat. Cure your sick through offering of Alms and destroy difficulties and dangers through prayers. One without pity for others will never be pitied. Whoever has compassion upon orphans, will see his own children treated kindly. There is no better means of prolongation of life than Sadaqah (alms) and there is no better thing than prayers for emancipation from evils. There is no better method of making human beings look venerable than by good manners and there is no better remedy than repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Beware that Sadqah (Alms) is a curtain between oneself and the fire of hell and is an easy medium for the Pool-e-Serat and is a protection from punishment. Treat people in such a way and live amongst them in such a manner that if you die they weep over you and if you are alive they crave for your company. I recommend five things to you, the attainment of which will be worth any amount of hardship : Not to expect anything from anyone but from God; not to fear anything but your sins; not to be ashamed to say, 'I do not know', when asked about something you are not aware of; not to be ashamed of learning a thing you do not know. Ever preserve the virtue of patience, for patience in relation to Eeman' (Faith) is like the head in relation to the body. And there is no good in a body which has no head, neither in Eeman' which has no patience. He who understands Divine Greatness never boasts. A sincere friend is sincere even in hardships. Do not envy the glory and magnificence of others, let not pride and grandeur of this world puff you, nor let sorrow over its wickedness and poverty depress you; for, all glory and magnificence shall fade, all worldly bliss pass away and all evil and poverty surely end, as we shall ourselves pass away. Humbleness and prostration bring nearness to God. God the Almighty selected us from His Creation and selected for us our followers who assist us. They are pleased when we are pleased and are sorrowful in our sorrows. They give up their lives and property for our cause. Therefore they are ours and will be with us in Paradise. If you believe in God, abstain from forbidden things, then you will be saved from all evils. If you please God, God will also please you. Simplest way of attaining God's mercy is to be good to all humanity. The descendants of the Prophet are his Confidants, the Shelter of his commands, the Trustees of his knowledge, the Stronghold of the Quran and the Mountains of his Faith. It was his firm belief that a ruler should rule not to please himself but to bring happiness to the ruled. And it was on the basis of this principle that he laid down rules for his people to carry out : (1) You must develop in yourself, kindness and love for your subjects. Do not behave with them as if you were a ferocious beast. (2) Muslims and non-Muslims should be treated alike. Muslims are your brothers and non-Muslims are human beings just like you. (3) Do not feel ashamed to forgive. Do not. be hasty with punishment. Do not quickly lose your temper over mistakes and failures of those over whom you rule. Anger and desire for vengeance are not going to be of much use to you in administration. (4) Do not allow favouritism and nepotism to force you to violate your duties to God and man, and drive you towards tyranny and oppression. (5) While selecting officers take care that you do not select such persons as have served tyrannical and oppressive rulers and have been responsible for atrocities and savage cruelties. (6) Select honest and kind persons as your advisers and from amongst them prefer those who speak out the bitter truth to you unreservedly without fear or favour. (7) Appointments in the first place must be on probation. (8) Keep your officers well paid so that they may not be tempted to practice corruption or misappropriation. (9) Appoint confidential officers secretly to watch the activities of your officers and staff and report to you about their behaviour. (10) Your secretaries should be the cream of your civil, judicial or military service. Choose the best among them irrespective of age or period of service. (11) All letters or applications should be dealt with by the officers and replies or orders about them should be drafted by them only. No subordinate must be allowed to be the eyes and the mind of these officers. (12) Take your subjects into your confidence and make them feel that you are their well-wisher and friend. (13) Never break a promise or go against the terms of a treaty. It is a sin against God. (14) You must take care of your traders but should never allow them to resort to hoarding, black-marketing and profiteering. (15) Help handicraft; it reduces poverty and raises the standard of life. (16) Agriculturists are assets to the state and should be protected. (17) Remember that your sacred duty is to look after the poor, disabled and the orphans. Let not your officers humiliate them, ill-treat them or oppress them. Help them, protect them and let them approach you whenever they are in need of your help.     He should tell them that he is not going to condemn the lifestyle of the Prophet (pbuh) and the Imams (as). I don't know where people get this 'joining of two familes' nonsense from. A girl leaves her house and goes to live with her husband. At most, the girl can be said to be joining another family. However, she doesn't bring her family with her, so I don't see where the joining of two families comes into it. So by that logic, it would be better not to teach the children about the lives of the Prophets and Imams, since they might get the idea that polygamy is ok. If they think they will make a good match, then they should proceed. The man doesn't need his parents approval, and the woman's guardian forfeited his right to say anything with his unislamic objections. They should force her parents to explicitly say yes or no then. Just give them an ultimatum, where not giving an answer is the same as rejection. It is by continuously ignoring what is islamically right that people get themselves into so many difficulties. If it is right islamically, then that means it is right, end of story. I find it interesting how in situations like this, it is always the children who are held responsible for 'ruining the family relationship'. Who is it who is promoting unislamic ideals? The parents. Who is it who is going against Islam by trying to prevent a good Islamic match? The parents. Who is it who is threatening (explictly or implictly) to sever relations with the children if they go against them? The parents. So it seems to me like it is the parents who are doing all the damage to the relationship with the children, and if they are willing to damage that relationship for unislamic reasons, then why should the children hesitate to damage the relationship for islamic reasons?

    You will be surprised there is difference of opinion on music, check with your Marja. Music is good and bad, depends how it's used.     Music, Why Is It Haram?

    A little thesis i wrote about my tango with music in another post. i think sometimes it is stronger to use logic to better understand the reasoning behind a matter being useful or harmful for us.. My first experiences with music was when i was real young, about 6 years or so. I remember the first song that truly captured my heart strings was a song called 'right here waiting for you'. it sounded so... i dunno, selfless. that someone will wait till the end of times for the one they love. naturally i didn't understand what love meant at such a young age, but the idea of devoting yourself for someone felt right to me, even at 6 my parents obviously didn't really listen to music, and so the little influence i had with music was from tv/movies/school. this influence was minimal till about the age of 13. that's when everything changed. suddenly everything in the world looked different, and i had this extremely strong urge to start growing up super quick, and giving up my childish ways (later on did i understand that's the whacky world of hormones acting on a teen). suddenly music was part and parcel of my everyday life. when walking or exercising, i'd listen to a walkman (remember those?), at home before bed, i'd play the radio. i felt a need to express myself, but i couldn't find the words. i felt these songs, were putting in words what i was feeling in my heart. There was an emptiness, that wasn't being filled by family, friends, or any other aspect of my life. these songs were speaking out to me, it was like every lyric of the song was written for me and only me.. i can still remember the lyrics of a bryan adams song i listened to many years ago, 'the saddest song you ever heard, the most you said with just one word. the lonliest prayer you ever prayed. the truest vow you ever made. what makes you laugh what makes you cry. what gets you up what gets you by. your highest high your lowest low. these are the things i wanna know'.... it was these kinds of lyrics, that had such a hold on me and i was, i guess in every meaning of the term, addicted to music. psychology has shown, that music addiction can be just as strong as alcohol or drug addiction, and perhaps even more powerful. everywhere i went, i felt a need to listen to something. going to the gym, i played my music on the gym system. jogging on the corniche, i'd have a walkman/mp3 stuck in my ears. everytime i needed to make an important decision, i'd listen to music first, and the problem with that is music will make you end up taking an emotional decision for every action you take, as opposed to a rational decision. it made me go down roads i shouldn't have been taking, because it stimulated my emotions constantly.. one of those roads was in regards to a girl, the first girl i truly i had feelings for, when i was 16, and by taking that road i ended up doing ridiculous things, including entering a competition that got me the title of the most romantic person in the UAE for 2003 When i turned 18 and was in my first year in medical school, as well as in ireland, i reached the first stage of my life where i truly started to question my purpose in life, and did my research into theology/religion. that in itself is a whole other story, but when it came to music, i realised one truth. the idea music tries to bring forward, of falling in love and devoting yourself completely to that love, is not wrong in itself. the context however, was wrong. music was trying to convince the masses that love is essentially what is shown to other people, and sometimes even petty things like wealth/estates/power. i began to realise, the more i learned about Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì, that the love i had in my heart, all those lonely nights, was because i was not returned the love in this heart back to The One who put it here in the first place. that was when i saw mainstream music for what it really was, an art which distracted me from achieving the true goal of my life, and experiencing the love i was always looking for all that time.

    Ali The Magnificent

    Sallam Alykum, I have just completed a book "Ali The Magnificent" by Yousus N. Lalljee. This book, as can be seen by the title, is a biography of Imam Ali (as) from the beginning of Islam till the martyrdom of the the Holy Imam. The first 100 pages or so discuss the birth of Ali, his youthful years, his disciple of the Prophet (saw), his marriage with Fatima (as), the battles he participated in, the missionary work he did for Islam, his status in Ghadeer Khum, and where he was and what he did during the last days of Prophet Muhammad (saw). What I loved about this book was that it discussed Prophet Muhammad (saw) as much as it discussed Imam Ali (as) in the first 100 pages. It is as the author was saying that you can't mention Ali (as) without first mentioning Muhammad (saw) because these two were almost inseparable. The next 100 pages or so discuss Ali (as) after the death of Muhammad (saw) and the issue of caliphate and what Ali (as) had to deal with and the battles he was forced to partake in. The book then ends with the martyrdom of Ali (as) and then discusses his virtues such as his knowledge, piousness, and his views on life. The book was very enjoyable to read and the author even used hadeeths to back up some of the points he was making. It gave a fairly detailed description of the life of Ali (as) which only makes you love and respect him more. I would definitely recommend this book to every Muslim and non-Muslim to learn more about a man who not only lived his life to better Islam, but to better humanity also. He was not an Imam just for Shia Muslims, but for all of mankind. He is undoubtedly the best human being to have ever lived after Prophet Muhammad (saw) with such an elevated status that the angels themselves know of his status. I would recommend you buy a physical copy of the book because it is just that good. Better yet reading our own books and know what they say before looking into that of others. Yasir al-Habib already does a fine job of Shaykhayn smashing, leave it to him. Here are a few narrations on the knowledge of the Imam's (as), with reference to their creation/Birth: Narration 1: Narrated from Imam Jafar As-Sadiq (as): [Quoting only a part of the narration here] وإذا وقع من بطن امه وقع واضعا يديه على الارض رافعا رأسه إلى السماء فأما وضعه يديه على الارض فإنه يقبض كل علم لله أنزله من السماء إلى الارض وأما رفعه رأسه إلى السماء فان مناديا ينادي به من بطنان العرش من قبل رب العزة من الافق الاعلى باسمه واسم أبيه يقول: يا فلان بن فلان اثبت تثبت، فلعظيم ما خلقتك أنت صفوتي من خلقي وموضع سري وعيبة علمي وأميني على وحيي وخليفتي في أرضي، لك ولمن تولاك أوجبت رحمتي ومنحت جناني وأحللت جواري، ثم وعزتي وجلالي لاصلين من عاداك أشد عذابي وإن وسعت عليه في دنياي من سعة رزقي فإذا انقضى الصوت - صوت المنادي - أجابه هو واضعا يديه رافعا رأسه إلى السماء يقول " شهد الله أنه لا إله إلا هو والملائكة واولوا العلم قائما بالقسط لا إله إلا هو العزيز الحكيم " قال: فإذا قال ذلك أعطاه الله العلم الاول والعلم الآخر واستحق زيارة الروح في ليلة القد When he comes out of his mothers womb he places his hands on the floor and raises his head to the sky. Placing his hands on earth is an indication of his taking possession of all the knowledge of Allah that is sent from the heavens to earth. Raising his head to the sky is that because a caller from inside the Throne calls him from the high horizon with his name and the name of his father. It is for (on behalf of) the Lord, the Most Majestic, the Most Gracious, saying, "O so and so, son of so and so, be firm so that you would be established. For the great purpose that I have created you, you are my chosen one in my creatures. You are the keeper of My secrets, the container of My knowledge, the trustee of My inspiration and My deputy and representative on earth. I have made it necessary for My blessings and mercy to reach you and those who would love you (and acknowledge your Divine Authority). I have gifted My paradise and given a place near Myself to you and to them. Also, by My Majesty and Grace, I will make your enemies to feel the heat of My punishment even though I may have given them expanded prosperity in My world such as prosperity in their livelihood. When the call of caller ends he responds to it by placing his hands on the ground and raising his head to the sky and says the following. "Allah Himself testifies that He is the only Lord. The angels and the men of knowledge and justice testify that Allah is the only Lord, the Majestic, and All-wise." (3:18) The Imam said, "When he says this, Allah grants him the knowledge of the first and the knowledge of the last the qualification to be visited by the spirit in the nights of destiny." [source: Al-Kafi, Kitab Al-Hujja, Chapter: 93, Hadees. 1] Narration 2: عدة من أصحابنا، عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن ابن محبوب، عن هشام بن سالم، عن يزيد الكناسي، قال: سألت أبا جعفر عليه السلام أكان عيسى ابن مريم عليه السلام حين تكلم في المهد حجة لله على أهل زمانه؟ فقال: كان يومئذ نبيا حجة لله غير مرسل أما تسمع لقوله حين قال: " إني عبدالله آتاني الكتاب وجعلني نبيا و جعلني مباركا أينما كنت واوصاني بالصلاة والزكاة ما دمت حيا " قلت: فكان يومئذ حجة لله على زكريا في تلك الحال وهو في المهد؟ فقال: كان عيسى في تلك الحال آية للناس ورحمة من الله لمريم حين تكلم فعبر عنها وكان نبيا حجة على من سمع كلامه في تلك الحال، ثم صمت فلم يتكلم حتى مضيت له سنتان وكان زكريا الحجة لله عزوجل على الناس بعد صمت عيسى بسنتين ثم مات زكريا فورثه ابنه يحيى الكتاب والحكمة وهو صبي صغير، أما تسمع لقوله عزوجل: " يا يحيى خذ الكتاب بقوة وآتيناه الحكم صبيا " فلما بلغ عيسى عليه السلام سبع سنين تكلم بالنبوة والرسالة حين أوحى الله تعالى إليه، فكان عيسى الحجة على يحيى وعلى الناس أجمعين وليس تبقى الارض يا ابا خالد يوما واحدا بغير حجة لله على الناس منذ يوم خلق الله آدم عليه السلام وأسكنه الارض، فقلت: جعلت فداك أكان علي عليه السلام حجة من الله ورسوله على هذه الامة في حياة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله؟ فقال: نعم يوم أقامه للناس ونصبه علما ودعاهم إلى ولايته وأمرهم بطاعته، قلت: وكانت طاعة علي عليه السلام واجبة على الناس في حياة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وبعد وفاته؟ فقال: نعم ولكنه صمت فلم يتكلم مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وكانت الطاعة لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله على امته وعلى علي عليه السلام في حياة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وكانت الطاعة من الله ومن رسوله على الناس كلهم لعلي عليه السلام بعد وفاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وكان علي عليه السلام حكيما عالما A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub from Hisham ibn Salim from Yazid al-Kunasiyy who has said the following. "I asked abu Ja‘far (as), ‘Was Jesus at the time he spoke to people from the cradle a Divine authority over the people of his time?" He said, "At that time he was a prophet, a Divine authority over the people but not a Mursal (Messenger). Have you not heard the words of Allah that say, ‘He said, "I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Book and has appointed me to be a Prophet (19:30). He has blessed me no matter where I dwell, commanded me to worship Him and pay the religious tax for as long as I live." (19:31) I then said, "Was he the Divine authority over Zackaria at the time that he was in the cradle?" He said, "At that time Jesus was a sign from Allah and a blessing to Mary (Maryam) when he spoke on her behalf. He was a prophet and a Divine authority over all those who heard his words at that time. Thereafter he did not speak until he was two years old. At Such time Zackaria was the Divine authority of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Gracious, over the people after the silence of Jesus. Zackaria then died and his son Yahya (John) inherited the book and wisdom and he was a small child. You can hear it in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Gracious, "We commanded John, Zachariah's son), ‘O John, follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood." (19:12) When Jesus became seven years he then spoke as a prophet and a messenger until Allah, the Most Holy sent him inspiration. Thus, Jesus was the Divine authority over John and over all the people. The earth is never left without the presence of a Divine authority over the people, O abu Khalid, from the day Allah created Adam and settled him on earth." I then said, "May Allah take my soul in service for your cause, did Ali (as) possess Divine authority from Allah and His Messenger over this nation (Muslims) during the life time of the Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Yes, but he kept silent and did not speak along with the Messenger of Allah. At that time, during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah, obedience was of the rights of the Messenger of Allah over the ’Umma (nation) and over Ali (as). Obedience to the authority of Allah and the Messenger of Allah over the people as a whole was obligatory to Ali (as) after the death of the Messenger of Allah.     Chatroom Hijab

    Salam alaikom wa Rahmatullah This topic is not intended to criticize members or anything. It's not about an incident that happened either , it's just about the Hijab of the chatroom. I noticed that most of the time, whenever I enter the chatroom , there is no topic going on ... Even during the nights of ramadan.. Usually ,there are only members mingling and joking around for hours. Sometimes it's not even funny, they just try to be funny . It's alright to do this, Islam didn't tell us not to laugh but the problem arises when the opposite gender is involved. Sometimes (I'm not saying all the time..just sometimes) .. a lot of males and females discuss topics and suddenly start joking around and it lasts for hours... here, we can see that the hijab from both sides is unveiled without really intending to do it. If you were outside with the Hijab on your head, you wouldn't act the same way as you act in the chatroom.. you wouldn't laugh out loud and flirt or such ..so please be the same person outside and inside . so this is just a reminder for my sisters and brothers to pay attention not to fall into sinning . Friendship is allowed in Islam but it has limits . p-s : I speak about myself before everyone. Myself,i have troubles observing proper Hijab online. May Allah guide guide us all (including me) :)

    Obviously city is superior in every matter to door,its a fountain head of knowledge,but the door was not enacted after the Prophet(saww).Was He the door in His life,or not?As for these narrations,yes i know about Mashaf e Fatima(as),and Jafre Jaami,these books are mashafs.Quran is a revealed book too,though its not a Saheefa,but only Ahlebait(as) can interpret it.With knowledge beyond the literal wordings.or do you say Ayaat are explicit on their own,need no interpreters? So Quran is teaching them or they are teaching us Quran? Similarly,these Mushafs are not superior to Quran,so how are these Mashafs supposed to teach them? They must contain something which they can understand only not merely through the words written in these,but with their knowledge above that. Moreover,Mashaf e Fatima(as) was revealed to console the grief of Syeda(as),not to enhance the knowledge of Imam Ali(as).He was Imam of His Wife too.

    Can we all stop automatically assuming that these problems only started when she became pregnant? For all we know, this has been going on for years, so let's give the brother some benefit of the doubt instead of attacking him. If the problems do indeed stem from the pregnancy, then obviously he needs to be more patient and understanding. However, if she has been like this even before the pregnancy, then she is clearly in the wrong.

    By brother and sister he probably meant brother and sister IN ISLAM and NOT siblings. In any case, I honestly wouldn't know what to do if I were in the guy's situation... I could try showing ahadith to them about the permissibility of Polygamy and about how parents shouldn't reject a potential suitor for unislamic reasons such as this... LOL but I doubt this would work by a longshot because clearly the parents are abhorrent of a practice prescribed by the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh) ... I'll pray it works out somehow.

So he knew Zayd and his wife would end up divorce, but pushed through with arranging the marriage anyway. He also knew the first two verses of Surah at-Tahreem: O Prophet! why do you forbid (yourself) that which Allah has made lawful for you; you seek to please your wives; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. Allah indeed has sanctioned for you the expiation of your oaths and Allah is your Protector, and He is the Knowing the Wise. [Qur'an 66:1-2, Shakir] Tafsir from the Ahlulbayt (as): Ahmad b. Idris reported to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad narrated to us from al-Husayn b. Sa`id from Ibn Sayyar from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام regarding His تعالى saying “O prophet, why did you prohibit what Allah has made lawful to you” (to the end of) the aya. He said: `A’isha and Hafsa found out about the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله while he was with Mariya. So the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله said: By Allah, I will not draw near her. So Allah commanded him to atone for his oath. Muhammad b. Ya`qub from `Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from Ibn Abi Najran from `Asim b. Humayd from Muhammad b. Qays. He said: Abu Ja`far عليه السلام said: Allah عز و جل said to His Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله “O prophet, why did you prohibit what Allah has made lawful to you, seeking to please your wives? but Allah is forgiving, merciful. Allah has prescribed for you to expiate your oaths” So he made it an oath and the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله atoned it (did kaffara for it). I said: What did he atone it with? So when the children decide to go ahead with a good match, then they don't care about their parents, but when the parents decide to break off the relationship with their children for no valid reason, that means what exactly? That they do care? How about when parents pressure their child into marrying someone who is not a good match for them? Is that a sign of parental love? I agree that it will likely create a big strain on the relationship of the newly weds, but that is not a good enough reason to comply with the unislamic attitudes of the parents. It's not easy to find a suitable spouse, and anyone who turns one down based on the prejudices and threats of their parents is a fool.

    It causes me physical and mental pain truth1234, that someone can be as stupid, ignorant, and arrogant as you, like honestly were you dropped on your head as a child, yes the Arabs were darker skinned, but they weren't black, the Ahadith about Imam Ali being "very dark skinned, pot bellied" were false hadith, they were concocted by the Ummayads were they would have a homosexual clown stuff a pillow in his shirt, smear ash on himself, and say "I am Ali Ibn Abi Talib". These hadith were false and made as insults by the Ummayads. And even if he was black, which was highly unlikely, the later Imams were darker skinned, not the beginning ones, what does it matter, Bilal was a Black man, Luqman the wise was a black man, so even if he was, so what? And the thing about him being a bald human, is untrue for the most part. The later Imams were the ones that balded them selves, in the Sunnat book Tahdhibul Islam, it states that the Imams after Imam Baqir would shave their heads, as they found it easier to work with, and cooler. We also know from Ahadith that Imam Ali would have longer hair at his youth, but as he aged, he would again trim his hair short. There is a Hadith stating that near the end of his life, in his Caliphate, Imam Ali was sitting under a tree, he was a short man, who had shaved his head, and was in tattered clothes (That's the Humility of Imam Ali, even as a Caliph), when a companion came from the Masjid with a Jewish man, who had some questions. So next time you get the urge to be stupid Truth1234, please don't be.

    The Importance Of Salah

    No this is not what is meant. Ma'rifah here does not mean wilayat here at all. Though it is pertinent to mention that part of true ma'rifah in Allah (swt) will lead you to wilayat. Ma'rifah denotes ones true understanding of monotheism. To know Allah (swt) is the greatest objective of this deen. There are so many narrations on this matter by our Imams. أَوَّلُ الدِّينِ مَعْرِفَتُهُ، وَكَمَالُ مَعْرِفَتِهِ التَّصْديقُ بِهِ، وَكَمَالُ التَّصْدِيقِ بِهِ تَوْحِيدُهُ، وَكَمَالُ تَوْحِيدِهِ الاِْخْلاصُ لَهُ، وَكَمَالُ الاْخْلاصِ لَهُ نَفْيُ الصِّفَاتِ عَنْهُ، لِشَهَادَةِ كُلِّ صِفَة أَنَّها غَيْرُ المَوْصُوفِ، وَشَهَادَةِ كُلِّ مَوْصُوف أَنَّهُ غَيْرُ الصِّفَةِ Look at the sermons of Nahjul Balagha and various narrations of Imam Al Sadiq (as) in particular. The whispered prayers of Imam Al Sajjad also reflect this reality. I don't know why you think that would be put into a "sufi-irfani idea" and what does that even mean really?

Ustad Hadawi relates; “My daughter was very ill and I came to Ayatullah Behjat(HA) and asked him to pray for her. He told me: “You yourself recite the following dua three times every day: “Allahumma ishfiha bi shifaa-ika, wa daawiha bi dawaa-ika, wa ‘aafiha bi ‘aafiyatik” (O Allah, cure her with Your cure, and treat her with Your medicine, and restore her health with Your strength). Then, after the third time say: “Bi’l Imami’l-Kazim(A), fa innaha amatuka wa bintu ‘abdik”. Of course, the hadith must be discussed properly, pondered over carefully and then transformed into action.
