  4. (bismillah) (salam) In light of the fact that there seem to be some people that believe Islam accords women a 'subhuman' status, I would like to examine some verses from the Qur'an to prove that such an opinion is unfounded, and then insha'Allah to give my understanding of certain ahadith that could appear to be derogatory towards women. First of all, it would be good to remind ourselves of just how elevated a status women can reach, by examining the story of Mariyam (as), the only woman to have a Sura named after her. When a woman of Imran said: My Lord! surely I vow to Thee what is in my womb, to be devoted (to Thy service); accept therefore from me, surely Thou art the Hearing, the Knowing. [Qur'an 3:35, Shakir] So when she brought forth, she said: My Lord! Surely I have brought it forth a female-- and Allah knew best what she brought forth-- and the male is not like the female, and I have named it Marium, and I commend her and her offspring into Thy protection from the accursed Shaitan. [3:36] So her Lord accepted her with a good acceptance and made her grow up a good growing, and gave her into the charge of Zakariya; whenever Zakariya entered the sanctuary to (see) her, he found with her food. He said: O Marium! whence comes this to you? She said: It is from Allah. Surely Allah gives to whom He pleases without measure. [3:37] And when the angels said: O Marium! surely Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of of the world. [3:42] This is of the announcements relating to the unseen which We reveal to you; and you were not with them when they cast their pens (to decide) which of them should have Marium in his charge, and you were not with them when they contended one with another. [3:44] When the angels said: O Marium, surely Allah gives you good news with a Word from Him (of one) whose name is the Messiah, Isa son of Marium, worthy of regard in this world and the hereafter and of those who are made near (to Allah). [3:45] There are several things to note here. First of all, when Mariyam's mother asked Allah for a child that could be devoted to His service, she was clearly expecting to be given a boy, but Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى chose to give her a girl instead. He then named her, purified her, and protected her and her offspring from Shaytan. He also provided her with food, and put her under the care of a Prophet of God. She was actually considered so special, that lots were drawn to decide who would take charge of her. In addition to all of this, angels would visit her, and told her that she was chosen to give birth to the Messiah `Isa (as), who was known as the son of his mother Mariyam. I don't think a more respectful description of a person, male or female, could be given than that given of Mariyam (as) in the Qur'an. Would anyone honestly say that there is any degrading about this description, or that there is any indication here that she was in any way a 'second class citizen'? Personally, I don't think so. Now that we have established the heights women can reach, we should examine the more general verses in the Qur'an that deal with women, particularly in their relationship with men. It is made lawful to you to go into your wives on the night of the fast; they are an apparel for you and you are an apparel for them; Allah knew that you acted unfaithfully to yourselves, so He has turned to you (mercifully) and removed from you (this burden); so now be in contact with them and seek what Allah has ordained for you, and eat and drink until the whiteness of the day becomes distinct from the blackness of the night at dawn, then complete the fast till night, and have not contact with them while you keep to the mosques; these are the limits of Allah, so do not go near them. Thus does Allah make clear His communications for men that they may guard (against evil). [2:187] O you who believe! it is not lawful for you that you should take women as heritage against (their) will, and do not straiten them in order that you may take part of what you have given them, unless they are guilty of manifest indecency, and treat them kindly; then if you hate them, it may be that you dislike a thing while Allah has placed abundant good in it. [4:19] He it is Who created you from a single being, and of the same (kind) did He make his mate, that he might incline to her; so when he covers her she bears a light burden, then moves about with it; but when it grows heavy, they both call upon Allah, their Lord: If Thou givest us a good one, we shall certainly be of the grateful ones. [7:189] And Allah has made wives for you from among yourselves, and has given you sons and grandchildren from your wives, and has given you of the good things; is it then in the falsehood that they believe while it is in the favor of Allah that they disbelieve? [16:72] And one of His signs is that He created mates for you from yourselves that you may find rest in them, and He put between you love and compassion; most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect. [30:21] These verses seem to indicate that the proper relationship between a husband and wife should be one of mutual love, support, and compassion. Both males and females are rewarded for their good deeds in the same way: Whoever does good whether male or female and he is a believer, We will most certainly make him live a happy life, and We will most certainly give them their reward for the best of what they did. [16:97] And whoever does good deeds whether male or female and he (or she) is a believer-- these shall enter the garden, and they shall not be dealt with a jot unjustly. [4:124] O mankind! We have created you from a male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has piety. [49:13] The Qur'an condemns those who truly treated women as subhuman: And when a daughter is announced to one of them his face becomes black and he is full of wrath. He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that which is announced to him. Shall he keep it with disgrace or bury it (alive) in the dust? Now surely evil is what they judge. [16:58-59] And when the female infant buried alive is asked For what sin she was killed, [81:8-9] The Qur'an commands respect for parents, but especially mentions mothers: And We have enjoined man in respect of his parents-- his mother bears him with faintings upon faintings and his weaning takes two years-- saying: Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; to Me is the eventual coming. [31:14] And We have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth; and the bearing of him and the weaning of him was thirty months; until when he attains his maturity and reaches forty years, he says: My Lord! grant me that I may give thanks for Thy favor which Thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do good which pleases Thee and do good to me in respect of my offspring; surely I turn to Thee, and surely I am of those who submit. [46:15] To be continued, insha'Allah, when I'll try to deal with the verses that are often used to 'prove' that Islam is misogynistic.

  9. Alimoe,i don't need to address each and every part of your nonsensical post about me but i would like to know that if i am commiting ghuluw in your terminology by doing Tawassul which all of our Marjas do,then why do you quote those 'ghaali' scholars for your interests.Having difference with their opinion is something else but considering someone ghaali is big thing, why do you believe in their fatwas then? Or you just like to use them for your propaganda,i know the wives of Imams(as) ,their names and numbers,so there was no need of ten pages long list,i simply asked about the muta wives you brought me the permanent ones. I agree Masoomeen(as) must have done it but not so frequently so when they did it was reported, thats all. For making it lawful even this much practice was enough but to make it recreation they did n't opt it as a hobby. And you are not any parameter to judge my love for my Imams(as),if i don't agree with you,you start comparing yourselves to the likes of Malike Ashter,Astghfaar, what have you done so remarkable in their imitation except muta? Or do you think muta is criteria of truth and falsehood? I don't hate those who really follow them or at least try to follow them but those who try to manipulate their teachings are far from being admired,i am not targetting those who practice muta but your likes ,who start doing 'GHULUW' in love of muta.

  10. In reply to my question: 1. Do you believe that Mu‘aawiyah and his army were “a rebellious, oppressive gang, or not? You wrote: Well, thank Allaah that you have at least admitted that Mu'aawiyah and his gang were rebels. That is good for you. The question now is: can their rebellion be excused or not? If it can be excused, then we the Imaamiyyah will have no problem with you on Mu’aawiyah and his rebellious gang. However, according to Allaah and His Messenger, the rebellion of Mu’aawiyah and his gang CANNOT be excused! This is my proof. ‏ Narrated by 'Ikrima Ibn 'Abbas said to me and to his son 'Ali, "Go to Abu Sa'id and listen to what he narrates." So we went and found him in a garden looking after it. He picked up his Rida', wore it and sat down and started narrating till the topic of the construction of the mosque reached. He said, "We were carrying one adobe at a time while 'Ammar was carrying two. The Prophet saw him and started removing the dust from his body and said, "May Allah be Merciful to 'Ammar. He will be killed by a rebellious, aggressive group. He will be inviting them (i.e. his murderers, the rebellious group) to Paradise and they will invite him to Hell-fire." 'Ammar said, "I seek refuge with Allah from affliction." Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 8, Number 438 And: ‏ Narrated by 'Ikrima That Ibn 'Abbas told him and 'Ali bin 'Abdullah to go to Abu Said and listen to some of his narrations; So they both went (and saw) Abu Said and his brother irrigating a garden belonging to them. When he saw them, he came up to them and sat down with his legs drawn up and wrapped in his garment and said, "(During the construction of the mosque of the Prophet) we carried the adobe of the mosque, one brick at a time while 'Ammar used to carry two at a time. The Prophet passed by 'Ammar and removed the dust off his head and said, "May Allah be merciful to 'Ammar. He will be killed by a rebellious aggressive group. 'Ammar will invite them to (obey) Allah and they will invite him to the (Hell) fire." Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 67 Of course, our master, 'Ammaar (ra), was murdered by Mu'aawiyah and his army at Siffeen. He (‘Ammaar) was fighting under Imaam ‘Alee’s (as) command against Mu’aawiyah and his gang on that day. Two phrases have been used by the Messenger of Allaah (pbuh) to describe Mu’aawiyah and his gang. The first is: ‏ويح ‏ ‏عمار ‏ ‏تقتله الفئة ‏ ‏الباغية May Allaah be merciful to ‘Ammaar. He will be killed by a rebellious aggressive group. Therefore, the responsibility for the murder of Sayyidinaa ‘Ammaar falls on the neck of the ENTIRE group, led by and including Mu’aawiyah. Ibrahim, there is simply no way for you to deny this reality. The WHOLE rebellious gang was jointly responsible for the murder of Sayyidinaa ‘Ammaar. Secondly, Mu’aawiyah and his army were called: ‏الباغية The Salafee translator of Saheeh al-Bukhaaree has rendered it as “rebellious, aggressive”. So, Mu’aawiyah and his gang were both rebels and aggressors, and they were guilty of the murder of Sayyidinaa ‘Ammaar and thousands of other believers. These points are very crucial. If you deny any of them, you have called Allaah and His Messenger liars! Ibrahim, so far, I have seen you calling Imaam ‘Alee (as) the aggressor, and excusing the murder and rebellion of Mu’aawiyah and his gangs! Better repent to Allaah, and correct your eemaan! One of your scholars, al-Manaawee, in his Fayd al-Qadeer, vol. 4, p. 474, # 5607 states about the above hadeeths: عمار تقتله الفئة الباغية‏ ‏أي الظالمة الخارجة عن طاعة الإمام الحق ، وزاد الطبراني في رواية الناكبة ، عن الحق والمراد بهذه الفئة فئة معاوية كما جاء موضحاً في رواية الطبراني وغيره ، وهذا من معجزاته لأنه أخبار عن غيب وقد وقع‏. “Ammaar will be murdered by a rebellious, aggressive group”, meaning AN UNJUST, OPPRESIVE GROUP THAT ABANDONED OBEDIENCE TO THE IMAAM OF THE TRUTH. Al-Tabaraanee added in the report of al-Naakibah, “(they deviated) from the Truth”. Those intended by this (rebellious, aggressive, oppressive, unjust) group are the group of Mu’aawiyah, as it has been explicitly reported in the narration of al-Tabaraanee and others. And this is one of his (i.e. the Prophet’s) miracles, because he predicted and it came true. So, Ibrahim, to be on the side of the Prophet, you MUST agree that Mu’aawiyah and his gang were rebels, aggressors, deviants, unjust and oppressive. Unless you do this, you are indirectly accusing the Prophet of ignorance, misguidance and lying! The next phrase used by the Prophet to describe Mu’aawiyah and his gang is: يدعوهم إلى الجنة ويدعونه إلى النار He (‘Ammaar) will be calling them (i.e. Mu’aawiyah and his gang) to Paradise while they (Mu’aawiyah and his group) will be calling him to Hellfire! He also states: ‏يدعوهم إلى الله ويدعونه إلى النار. ‏ He (‘Ammaar) will be calling them (i.e. Mu’aawiyah and his gang) to Allaah while they (Mu’aawiyah and his group) will be calling him to Hellfire! So, I ask you, Ibrahim: were Mu’aawiyah and his gang calling to Allaah and Paradise, or were they calling to Hellfire? I am certain that to retain your Islaam, you must accept that Mu’aawiyah and his gang were calling to Hellfire. Now, the next question is: were Mu’aawiyah and his gang believers or not? The reason for this question is that Sayydinaa ‘Ammaar was calling them TO ALLAAH, and to Paradise! How can anyone call a believer to Allaah? And, how can a believer call to Hellfire?! Interestingly, the Prophet deliberately borrowed those phrases from the Qur’aan! Allaah says in (2:221): وَلَعَبْدٌ مُؤْمِنٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ مُشْرِكٍ وَلَوْ أَعْجَبَكُمْ أُولَٰئِكَ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى النَّار وَاللَّهُ يَدْعُو إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَالْمَغْفِرَةِ بِإِذْنِهِ And certainly a believing servant is better than an idolater, even though he (the idolater) should please you; these (i.e. idolaters) call to the Fire, and Allaah calls to the Paradise and to forgiveness by His will. In simple terms, only disbelievers in Allaah can be described as calling to Hellfire! This is why they are invited to Allaah in the first place! Even though they may identify themselves as Muslims, they are in reality DISBELIEVERS in Allaah, that must be called to Him. What further strengthens this submission is what Imam Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr says in al-Isti’aab fee Ma’rifah al-Sahaabah (Beirut: Daar al-Jayl; 1st edition, 1412 H) [annotator: ‘Alee b. Muhammad al-Bajaawee], vol. 3, p. 1117: ولهذه الأخبار طرق صحاح قد ذكرناها فى موضعها وروى من حديث على ومن حديث ابن مسعود ومن حديث أبى أيوب الأنصارى أنه أمر بقتال الناكثين والقاسطين والمارقين. For these reports are saheeh chains, which we have mentioned at their places. It is narrated in the hadeeth of ‘Alee, and the hadeeth of Ibn Mas’ood, and the hadeeth of Aboo Ayoob al-Ansaaree that he (‘Alee) was commanded (by the Prophet) to fight the oath-breakers, and the Qaasiteen and the apostates. Imaam al-Bazzaar in his Musnad al-Bazzaar (Beirut: Muasassat ‘Uloom al-Qur’aan; 1st edition, 1409 H) [annotator: Dr. Mahfooz al-Rahmaan Zayn Allaah], vol. 3, pp. 26-27, #774, also records this saheeh hadeeth of Imaam ‘Alee: حدثنا عباد بن يعقوب قال نا الربيع بن سعيد قال نا سعيد بن عبيد عن علي بن ربيعة عن علي قال عهد إليّ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في قتال الناكثين والقاسطين والمارقين. Narrated ‘Alee: The Messenger of Allaah, peace be upon him, made a covenant to me to fight the oath-breakers, the Qaasiteen and the apostates. Commenting upon the authenticity of this report, Imaam al-Haythamee states in Majma’ al-Zawaaid (Beirut: Daar al-Kitaab al-‘Arabī; 1407 H), vol. 7, p. 238: رواه البزار والطبراني في الأوسط وأحد إسنادي البزار رجاله رجال الصحيح غير الربيع بن سعيد ووثقه ابن حبان. Al-Bazzaar recorded it, as well as al-Tabaraanee in al-Awsaat. One of the chains of al-Bazzaar contains narrators of the Saheeh, with the exception of al-Rabee’ b. Sa’eed, and Ibn Hibbaan declared him trustworthy. Imaam al-‘Asqalaanee explains this hadeeth in Talkhees al-Habeer (Madīnah al-Munawwara; 1384 H) [annotator: Sayyid ‘Abd Allaah Haashim al-Yamaanee al-Madanee], vol. What further proves this is the hadīth of ‘Alee in which he says “I was COMMANDED to fight the oath-breakers, the Qaasiteen and the apostates”. Al-Nisaaee recorded it in al-Khasaais, as well as al-Bazzaar and al-Tabaraanee. The people of al-Jamal (under ‘Aa’ishah) were the oath-breakers because they broke their bay’ah to him (i.e. ‘Alee), and the Qaasiteen were the people of Syria (under Mu’aawiyah) because they left the haqq (truth) in their refusal to give him bay’ah. The apostates were the people of al-Nahrawaan (i.e. the Khawaarij) The Prophet called Mu’aawiyah and his gang “Qaasiteen”. The implications of this are very severe. Of course, the Messenger of Allaah was not joking in what he said. Mu’aawiyah and his army were Qaasiteen! This was a clearcut takfīr from the Prophet upon them. For the avoidance of doubt, Qaasiteen (also called or spelt Qasitun) are not Muslims and are fuel for Hellfire, as the Qur’aan has differentiated between both groups: وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُولَـٰئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا رَشَدًا وَأَمَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا [Mohsin Khan Qur’ān 72:14-15] And of us some are Muslims (who have submitted to Allah, after listening to this Qur'an), and of us some are Al-Qasitun (DISBELIEVERS - those who have deviated from the Right Path)'. And whosoever has embraced Islam (i.e. has become a Muslim by submitting to Allah), then such have sought the Right Path. And as for the Qasitun (DISBELIEVERS who deviated from the Right Path), they shall be firewood for Hell. Ibrahim, how can you deny that Mu’aawiyah and his gang were rebels, aggressors, unjust, oppressive and deviants in the light of the above evidence? Also, how can you excuse Mu’aawiyah and his gang when Allaah and His Messenger ORDERED Imaam ‘Alee to fight them? How can you call Mu’aawiyah and his gang believers when Allaah and His Messenger commanded Imaam ‘Alee to fight them? Do Allaah and His Messenger order fighting against believers? How can you call Mu’aawiyah and his gang believers while Allaah and His Messenger have called them Qaasiteen, meaning disbelievers and fuel for hellfire? Do you disagree with Allaah and His Messenger that Mu’aawiyah and his gand were callers to Helfire and Qaasiteen? Finally, the Prophet also took pain to DIRECTLY refute your “ijtihaad excuse” before his death. He said: ‏ويح ‏ ‏عمار ‏ ‏تقتله الفئة ‏ ‏الباغية May Allah be Merciful to 'Ammar. He will be killed by a rebellious, aggressive group. Now, what has he said about this group, which was responsible for the murder? Shaykh al-Albaanee in his al-Silsilah al-Ahaadeeth al-Saheehah (Riyadh: Maktabah al-Ma’aarif), vol. 5, p. 18, # 2008 records that the Prophet (pbuh) said: قاتل عمار و سالبه في النار. The murderer and attacker of ‘Ammār will be in the Fire. Concerning its authenticity, he states: هذا إسناد صحيح , رجاله ثقات رجال مسلم This chain is saheeh, its narrators are narrators of (Saheeh) Muslim. In simple words, Mu’aawiyah and his gang will be in Hellfire! Now, Ibrahim, do you accept the words of the Prophet? Or do you prefer your own illusions?

  14. Exercise self-restraint. It's only a few days. What does it even mean? Longer self-restraint. A woman in your house is bearing the fruits of your 'labour' - so bear with it. Myth. Gross stereotype - not even relevant. For all the good reasons to keep a healthy relationship with your wife and family. FAIL, and an EPIC one at that.

  15. (bismillah) (salam) As is known, zakat is only payable on 9 things: gold, silver, wheat, barley, dates, raisins, camels, cows and sheep. We also have ahadith making it clear that it is not to be paid on other things than this, even if they appear similar. For this reason, no marja has made zakat payable on paper money. As a consequence of this, a fundamental pillar of our religion has basically become obsolete. I hope I am not the only one to find this a little troubling. Now, the question is, since zakat is only payable on currency when gold and silver coins are used, should an Islamic state be able to use a different currency to that one, or should it at least need to have the paper money backed by gold and silver (in which case presumably an argument could be made for zakat being payable on it), if not bring back gold and silver coins themselves?

  21. Just to step in, but that's crazy talk.. AliSaleh had/has his own issues, and his apostasy lay on his own shoulders. However, regarding that thread those who were "pro-slavery" (i.e. accepting the fact that Islam allows it, that there's no evidence of its intended abolishing, and that the Ma`sumeen partook of it) were trying to position themselves from a stance of "this is what Islam says, Islam can't be wrong, so let's try to understand this humanely", while the other side was simply throwing ad hominem's and attacking that slavery could ever be right and anyone who would possibly hold such a view (ignoring the obvious contradiction of what their religion says). Now out of the two approaches, which do you think is going to have the more negative influence over a doubting person?

He shall, most certainly, prevail over (all) religious (methods of life). He shall definitely be the avenger against the oppressors. He shall surely be the conqueror of the strongholds and their demolisher. He shall be, indeed, the destroyer of every polytheistic group. He shall be the attainer of vengeance for the blood of all representatives of Allah, the mighty and the majestic. He shall be the supporter of the religion of Allah. He shall bring out (people’s share) from (his) deep ocean (of knowledge and divine resources). He shall mark each man of distinction by his distinction and every man of ignorance by his ignorance. Behold! He is the elite of Allah, and Allah is his chooser. He shall be the heir of every knowledge, and the one who shall encompass [every perception] He shall advise and inform on behalf of his Lord, the mighty and the majestic, and shall remind about the matters pertaining to His faith. He shall be the right-minded and unerring, to whom authority shall be vested. Behold! All former (prophets) have given the glad tidings of him. Know that he shall be the remaining proof (of Allah), after whom there shall be no (new) proof. There shall be no truth except with him, nor shall there be any light (of guidance) except at his disposal. None, indeed, shall overcome him, and none shall be supported against him. He shall be the authorized representative of Allah on His earth, His judge over His creation, and His trustee in His secrets and in what He made evident. http://www.marefateahlebait.com/the-12th-imam/mention-on-imame-zamana-atfs-in-sermon-of-ghadeer

  26. Aalaikas Salam. I don't see any problem in either of the these narrations. Also I would not consider chain of narrators being a problem here as there are atleast 2 narrations which prove that Fatema Zehra (sa) is having a higher status than Maryam (sa). Here is what is quote in Majma Al-Bayan - Al-Tabarisi: في مجمع البيان - ( واصطفاك على نساء العالمين ) اى على نساء عالمى زمانك ، لان فاطمة بنت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله سيدة نساء العالمين وهو قول ابى جعفر عليه السلام وقد روى عن النبى صلى الله عليه وآله انه قال : فضلت خديجة على نساء امتى كما فضلت مريم على نساء العالمين "What is meant by "Maryam was chosen over the women of the worlds" is that she was chosen over the women of her time. While Fatema daughter of the Messenger of Allah (saww) is the Master of the women of all the worlds. And it is the saying of of Abi Jafar (as) that it is narrated from the Messenger (saww) that He said, "Kadija has preference over the women of my nation just like the preference of Maryam over the women of the worlds."

  27. Sisters, if you wish you can add alimohammed to your list of ignore users. Why inflict yourself his posts when you can easily ignore them. Please see this thread on how it can be done.

  28. I see where you are coming from, but if they are only staying together for their children, maybe it wouldn't hurt to let them know that perhaps it might be better for them to have, even a 'trial separation', or that their individual well being and sanity is important to the children, and it wouldn't be a problem if the went their own ways. At the very least it might give them a different perspective on things, by the sound of it, the current situation isn't healthy for anyone. Situations like this can lead to circle of resentment that will effect relationships for years to come.

    Why Ayesha?

Even when ex-sunnis tell it frankly the imbeciles on the other side STILL refuse to comprehend. I need to stay away from the waste of time (mostly) that is the Shia/Sunni Dialogue (Yeah Right!) Sub-Forum. The very few sunnis left on here are so low in IQ it's like shooting fish in a small barrel with a MASSIVE gun. All of their fairy tales about the mythical happy-clappy hippie commune love-in of the sahaba have been torn to shreds. Their engines are running on fumes and they've resorted to mild abuse, cryptic postings or personal opinions. ALI

  32. I have reached the top and do you know how??? By studying any matter with a wide mind, open eyes and a pure heart. By looking at any situation from all angles, by doing research with sense and logic and keeping reality and facts in mind. By not taking sides or looking at things with favouritism. By not being prejudice or bias. By keeping a clear difference between right and wrong, to distingush between haq and batil. I have no burden on my heart because i have nothing wrong, which I should hide and nobody guilty, who I should protect. Await my death??? Why??? I have all the tools and everything I need to make a clear decision, well before my death. Only the fools will wait for their death and if they find out that they were right, they gain but if they find out that they were wrong, then it's too late. We have sense, logic, nature, reality and facts, we have the Quran and Sunnah, also our own ability to research and think, then we have to be just and fair. What more does one need or have to do??? Can't one search for and find the answers, before their death??? Why wait for your death, then realise it's too late???

  37. Salam to all and congratulations on the birth of Our Imam Al Asr wa Zaman(May Allah(s.w.a) hasten his return). The behaviour of Nina Bazzi and her friends would not surprise anyone who lives in Dearborn. I don't want to talk about her specifically, because she says that she is Muslima so i'll take her on her word, in which case most of what I was about to say would be gheeba, so I'll talk about the issue in general. Dearborn is a city that is ruled by social classes, sort of like the cast system in India except it is not codified into law or even spoken about that much, but it is practiced. On the top of the cast system, you have the Lebanese families from Bint Jebail ( a village in S. Lebanon) who would be equivalent to the Brahman class in India. The three most prominent families are the Berris (Sheik Abdul Latif Berri), The Bazzis (Nina Bazzi), and the Beydouns (the three B's for short). These are families that originally came to Dearborn in the 1940s and are well established and support and help within their own family and basically are the 'shot callers' in Dearborn. They sit on Boards of Directors for Masjids, own lots of property, have lots of friends in city and state government, etc. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are like the Italian mafia, but some behaviour of some members is similar to this. If you want to do anything significant in Dearborn, like run for public office, open a business, be part of the management in a masjid, etc, you have to go thru these families to do it and they have to approve of you. That is basically how it works. To the older generation, keeping these privileges that they have is like a power game to them, and not all the members of these families are into these power games and there are some good muminin and muminat amoung them but mostly they have bought in hook, line, and sinker into the 'American Dream' and they are part of the system. They call themselves Lebanese but many of them have never been to Lebanon and many of their kids do not even speak Arabic or have any connection to Lebanon except maybe their last name. I am a white anglo saxon raised in a Christian household (and then reverted to Islam) and I have probably spent more time in Lebanon than 50% of the Lebanese kids here. Anyway. So Nina Bazzi is unfortunately a product of this system. Her behavior is sad but it doesn't surprise me. Also, she is not the worst of it. At least she is honest and is upfront about what she does and doesn't believe, although it is wrong, IMO. There are many ladies from the Dearborn 'Brahma' class who do alot worse things than her, then put on hijab and go to the masjid and condemn her for what she does in public. She is part of the lost generation in Dearborn. I call it the Arabic Cholo. They feel as if they are not really Lebanese but not really American either, so they are caught in their own little subculture and cant see a way out of it. The way out is Islam, but they haven't realize that or noone has told them.
