Worst Hijab
Alejandro Sosa and 2 others reacted to Haydar Husayn for a topic
I think you are getting too focused on what you think the reasons are as to why a woman needs to wear hijab. What you need to realise is that all this is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that Allah ordered it through His Prophet (pbuh). Therefore even if it had absolutely no point, hijab would still need to be observed. That doesn't mean there isn't an actual benefit from it, because there certain is, but it's not the primary reason why someone should wear it. It's hard to discern the submission aspect of Islam in your posts. Instead it seems to be that if you don't understand why a rule is in place, then you start doubting whether it should be in place at all. But this is completely illogical. If a child isn't capable of understanding one of the rules his parents set for him, it doesn't mean that it is a good idea for him to not obey it. Of course, the difference between Allah (swt) and us is infinitely greater than between a parent and a child. It is extremely presumptuous to assume that not only can we fully understand why Allah has made His laws, but also that if we judge the reasons we think the rules were made no longer apply, then we have the right to abrogate those laws. I think some people would do well to remind themselves of the difference between themselves and Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì.3 points -

Umm not a poem, just wrote this randomly.. So its not something great or well though out. HOPE Laying.. Watching the ceiling, not looking, but watching.. I see nothing but the dark, maybe my eyes aren't as open as they used to be? Or maybe.. Just maybe they are fully open for the first time.. The world senses the darkness upon its mass. Heavy, lingering presence that all those wanting to see; watch on as it consumes our lands.. Death is everywhere, we cannot escape it yet we cannot bear it.. As i lay here, head on my pillow, gazing upward watching the world engulf itself in total destruction. I think of those subjected to it, who are they? They are the innocence, they are the young, they are the old, they are the free, they are the good, they are god's people.. And yet i am in the safety of my bed, watching them.. Watching as the darkness surrounds them.. Watching their pain, agony, suffering, loss.. Yet i cannot fathom their bravery, their courage, their strength, their will, their faith.. They are a testament to all that is good in the world by forbidding the evil.. Yet when i watch them, i see a fliker.... Yes.. Light. Their hearts are burning, beating against the dark that threatens. Then i realise.. What is common of these nobles? Hope. One day this light will transform.. It will brighten, it will spread, it will fight the darkness, it will win.. I just pray to god that they are patient.. I am nothing compared to these people. May the imam (as) come so that i may be able to gaze up and see light once again.. So i lay here waiting.. Watching out, for that light to brighten my heart..2 points -

International Dishes
DoubleAgent4 and one other reacted to Zahraflower for a topic
Insha'Allah we can share international dishes here. Masemen (Moroccan layered bread) 2 cups flour 1 1/4 fine semolina 3/4 cup oil 3 tablespoons butter or shortening 1 tablespoon of each (salt, sugar) 1-2 cups warm water HOW2: Steps for making the dough: Mix all the dry ingredients together (flour,1 cup of semolina, salt, and sugar) in a large bowl. Slowly add water and work the dough until the dough comes together. You may not use all the water for this recipe so add it a little at a time. I like using a mixer for this it’s easier and quicker this takes about 10min. If by hand Knead for 20 minutes while adding water until you get an elastic dough. You can use a kneading machine to speed up the process. Put the dough ball in the machine and Make small balls with the dough (golf ball size) and let the dough rest for 20 minutes. Forming the bread: Reserve the 1/4 cup of semonila aside for this process. Mix the melted butter with the oil. Spread some of the oil/butter mixture on a flat surface. Take one dough ball and flatten it with your hands. Gently keep stretching the dough until you get a thin circle of dough. Sprinkles a bit of semolina on the round flat dough Fold the top and bottom edge in to the center. Sprinkle more semolina. Fold in the right side, followed by a pinch more of semolina, then the left side. It will form a square. Set it aside and repeat the process until all doughs are formed. Cooking: Heat up some of the oil and butter mixture into a flat skillet or pancake pan. Take one dough square at a time flatten it out with your fingers. Place it on the heated skillet, cook for about 5-9 Min's, until golden brown. Flip to the other side. Repeat flattening each dough out by hand each one at a time before cooking. traditionally this is served with honey on it i love it with cream cheese or with my dinner. ENJOY!! Jamaican Jerk Chicken 5 Chicken Thighs. meat or any vegetables you like Marinade: 1/2 cup lime juice 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1/4 cup vinegar 1/4 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup canola oil 1 jalapeno pepper, diced (Optional) 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon Thyme 1 teaspoon Cinnamon 1 tablespoon Allspice 1 tablespoon Ginger minced 5 cloves Garlic minced 3 green onions thinly sliced How2: In a bowl combine the marinade ingredients. set aside. Add chicken marinade for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 400DF if your baking them in oven or you may grill them. if your baking cook for 30-mins or until chicken is golden and tender.2 points -

Yes, Shia ladies get defensive a lot on this issue. But me being the devils advocate, sometime when men present their points and the legal sharia rights that Allah has granted us, we tend to forget the most critical of Islamic characteristic, the "rahma" that is the care, consideration, the mercy, being cognizant of our partner's feelings, in this case to women who we present this legal right to, particularly the wives. Since we know our legal rights, and also know that not all women are perfect in faith (just like not all men are), rather than poking it in their eyes every time this topic of muta, nikah, or 2nd wife comes, let's consider not to hurt the feelings of those who we love and who help us reach a better place in akhira (since with their help we get ease in this life to better serve Allah and presence of them completes half of our deen and vice versa). Again the characteristic of "rahma" should take precedence than go in front of them and sing " ooops I did it again" and "it is my right" - after we do it, or think about doing it, or think about making our claim that we could do it but not doing it, and so on !!2 points -

The Key.. What is this life, but dirtyness? Living in desolate, meaningless lands with no spirituality. So unlike the times of old where men were men, strong with hearts of steel. Living with the desert, dangerous but blind faith they had. We live with comfort, free of danger yet we have weak faith, wavering, crumbling under the minuteness of life. Yet we survive, pockets of the faithful remain. Rising in the name of husayn, we stand united fighting off the vices of evil. Tyranny is just a phase doomed, inevitable is its fate. Whilst we stand there is no oppressor we cannot overcome, no evil we cannot resist. Through the means of justice we shall prevail. We shall be here till the world ends. We await our call to be free of this living hell. The key is our salvation. So we prepare, each to their own. We delve into our hearts and find our soul. We strengthen our connection with him. we will break free. If you can hear us we are ready to unlock our strength. You servants await your call.. Labayk ya husayn!2 points -
But since you are not Allah or a mind reader how would you know the true reason for her turning you down? She could have a very good reason for not accepting the proposal, an entire list of reasons that she wishes to keep secret and has nothing to do with multiple wives or jealousy. Yet someone who performs this "test" will go around labeling her as a non believer because she didn't accept his marriage proposal.2 points

Why is it "nasty"? Strange are the obsessions of (read: waswas of the shayaTeen in) men though. Despite the many liberties that the shari`ah has given them, despite the fact that they could live their life right and earn themselves some good near their Lord, single and married men are pining for married women at the cost of utter neglect of the muHallalaat and utter destruction of their akhirah (and the world too, but they are simply too blinded to notice or if they do, they still refuse to do anything about it), even investing a lot of effort into trying to seduce them into maintaining some sort of (definitely Haram) relation with them, and the married women are doing a good job of it too, making use of their seductive powers to keep the married (and single) men tempted by luring them to themselves through a whole range of options available to them today, courtesy advancements in technology. Mut`ah and polygyny are the only subjects worthy of respect to the Muslim man today; no one better say a word about respecting the bounds of Allah's Law when it comes to gender segregation and its emphasis in Islam.2 points -
Shia - Much More Spiritual: A Sunnis Point Of View

Walaykum Salam warahmatallah wabarakatu 1) There were times in history, dangerous times where the Shia had to use Taqiyah (Conceal their faith) because of the danger they were in. I believe it's hard to bring down a group of people who live their lives based on the lessons learnt from the battle of Karbala. Recently I've noticed a rise in the Shia population. Many have converted. 2) I think this short video may answer this question: Hope this helps2 points -

No Shia Boy Wants To Marry Girls In Medical School
Praetorius and one other reacted to thenamelessone for a topic
(bismillah) I know a woman who is a doctor, she studied medicine, while her husband supported her in this. After she attained her MD she stayed home for a few years having four children, once the children began attending school during the day she found a part time position in a doctors office that allowed her to work during the hours her children are in school. She plans on working full time as soon as her children are grown. To me this is the ideal situation for any muslim marriage, and their marriage a model for us all. That said, I believe an understanding marriage where there is give and take on both sides with both having common goals and morals is a rare thing. It is hard to find those people who are religious but not hateful and judgemental it seems to be all or nothing, rather than a people who simply try their very best everyday and ask forgiveness at the end of it for any shortcomings. I wish you the best of luck in your search for a good husband and will make dua for you2 points -

this is all crazy talk. there's a million reasons why this would never happen, but from an Iranian perspective, the two most important are: 1) In international eyes, it would prove everything the USA and Israel has said about this regime all along: they are a rogue state, not to be trusted 2) Iran can "survive" without exporting oil, but overnight everyone's savings and salaries would in real terms, drop by - who knows how much % - before people woke up in the morning. With no one dropping bombs, the reformists and moderates could blame the government. It would be a political catastrophe domestically, and the very conditions under which revolutions happen (read yer history). In short, doing this would play right into the hands of Iran's enemies. And Khamane'i is not so reckless.1 point -

Absurdity With Taqleed
Çåá ÇáÈíÊ reacted to husainshahid for a topic
I see 2 issues here: 1. extremism amongst shias - ayaTOLATRY vs ayaTOILETRY The first group virtually worship the ground the marjas walk on - almost idolatry with huge pictures on their favorite mulla bigger than the names of God and the Imams on the walls of the same mosques - they account for about 10% of shias and more in certain community settings. The second group hate marjas and reject the ulema totally - they account for another 10% or maybe less and are a misguided crew since they fail to acknowledge you do need ulema - the people who preserved the hadith, who know the arabic, the qira, the isnads etc are the ulema. In between are most shias - like me. I like the concept of an agnostic usuli - thank you to the brother who opened this Thread. It is a 3rd path and one I follow now. A lot of shias are such 3rd path shias - maybe most. How did this change come about? 2. Have you read the 70 Resalahs? I call this the 70 Resalah Test. There are almost 70 marajae now http://en.wikipedia...._current_Maraji Probably more as the list above is not complete. Before there were a handful when I was growing up - I am over 40 years old. Inevitably there will be conflict in opinions between marjas simply as there are so many now - and some of them effectively state others will be damned (like Khamenei vs the late Montazeri) - true also. This plurality and difference of opinion which goes beyond criticism into vocal condemnation of other marjas (and sometimes even violent repression of their followers) surprises most Shias. Maybe like me they before respected them TOO much. As perhaps like me they too used to have immense respect for the ayatollahs, perceiving them to be the de facto representatives of the 12th Imam (atf) - the socalled naib-e-aam (nonspecific representatives) - something I now believe I was wrong in my 20s and early 30s to have thought them to be. When I look deeper into the nature of taqleed I find that in its CURRENT form it has BECOME baseless. For example when you open the Resalah of say S. Sistani you read in his introduction that to be his muqallid you must have no doubt he is the most qualified expert on Islam in existence (he does not mention Imam Zamana (atf) but one must assume he is not including him - or maybe this is a vanity of the pious which he is oblivious of). Now how does S. Sistani know that he knows more than all the other 68 marjas in the world? How does he not know that some others have research interests that cause them to have more knowledge of specific areas of jurisprudence than him? To highlight this backwardness let's consider their own example - marjas and moreso their followers often compare the Marjas to doctors in your need of them - but in the medical profession there are specialists on every part of the body you go to - so why don't the Marjas do the same and specialise instead of pretending one man is the be all and end all of all knowledge, and (adding insult to injury) we have 70 of them each believing he is the be all and end all of all knowledge after the 12th Imam (atf) and the other 69 are inferior to him - another vanity of the pious? Has S. Sistani (and I am not picking on him the same applies to any of the 70) read the resalahs of the other 69 or have his followers? No. So how can those around him say he is the most learned - the followers of the other 69 do just the same for their Marja. Has anyone read the 70 resalahs? Therefore without reading the 70 resalahs you have - if you decide ayatollah X is most learned - done an injustice to those marjas whose resalahs and studies you have not studied. As have the marjas themselves. But the precondition of taqlid is identification of the most learned Marja - something that is now impossible. Point made. There are now so many marjas the old rules by which taqleed was decided upon are in real terms extinct. The field of human knowledge is now so vast one Marja cannot excel in research on all its areas. But despite these massive flaws the concept goes on in its old form - which is the great tragedy and the absurdity - and a calamity as it is hammered onto others by its blind followers. Ayatollaters will stamp on your head if you say you don't do taqlid of 1 marja - failing to realise the truth is NO shia alive does true taqlid even the ayatollaters - simply as the rules by which taqlid was done are no longer feasible. Before it was plausible a man could decide who out of 1,2, 3 or 4 or 5 marjas in the world in the 1960s/70s/80s was most learned on the opinion of other scholars or just by doing some research into the topic himself - now with 70 Marjas no shia can decide in earnest not even the marjas themselves despite their pretensions. Of course this means taqlid is in its fundamental determination is now a bankrupt institution - like say sunni islam is. It exists and there is good in it but it has no basis in legitimacy. To summarise, with regard to taqleed the mandatory criteria in the Usuli system for distinction and identification of the marja-e-taqlid which is the foundation of taqleed cannot now be fulfilled as there are 70 of them. The above fact renders obsolete the arguments of those who state taqlid of 1 marja is obligatory which most marjas say is still a requirement for taqlid (the caveat of precaution (ehtiyat) while permitted is frowned upon by the marjas and not practiced by themselves and their followers) - it also decimates the marjas themselves as they also fail the 70 resalah test. It also brings the institution of marjaiyat into direct conflict thereby with the cardinal Shia doctrine in the Justice of God (adalat) - how can a Just God expect you to follow a code that is now absurdly nonsensical (since it is not now possible to identify the most learned Marja without being unjust to the other 69). I accept it does not however invalidate the concept of taqlid per se though, but it does decimate the legitimacy of the current framework. As God is in Shia belief Just then it stands to reason failure to do taqlid as per the current operating framework in the shia world is NOT tantamount to misguidance necessarily. Wa Salam1 point -

Homosexual Muslims
Qa'im reacted to asphyxiated for a topic
Homosexuality, like heterosexuality and bisexuality, is an act. To define one's entire ontological status--one's entire being in this world--around sexual acts is a disservice to yourself and mankind in general. Sexual activity is something humans partake in; there are studies that show "gay" men routinely have sex with women, before and after their first homosexual experience. Sexuality is one part of who we are; labeling yourself a homosexual or a heterosexual is quite odd. It is odd that people are willing to define their entire identity, ideology, political outlook, social status, dress code and personal beliefs around a sexual act they prefer. In the West, I would consider the majority of women to be "bisexual," as per anecdotal and other forms of evidence. In past cultures people routinely had sex with both genders without labeling themselves one way or another. My point is that, while I am sure people have certain inclinations, our identities as human beings are far too complex to be labeled in sexual terms. These are acts. Treat them as such. The Islamic perspective on this is pretty clear. Islam also considers these to be acts and doesn't go about defining human beings on their preference for one act over the other.1 point -

What Is The Diffrence Between Shia And Suuni
Waiting for HIM reacted to Praetorius for a topic
The age of the internet has allowed the average layman access to everything he/she needs to get a perspective on who's right from the Shias and the Sunnis. If one studies history objectively with pure logic, you would have to be demented and insane to accept the Sunni version of history, which is nothing but a dandy fairytale of Sahaba who loved each other so much, that they waged wars against each other (e.g. Jamal), encouraged each other to run from the battlefields (Umar running from Uhud), legitimized jealousy (Aisha and Hafsa in the incident of the honey), accused fellow Muslims of apostasy ("riddah" wars), just to name a few. In simpler terms, if you have gained a complete and concrete understanding of history, and all it's Islamic elements, if you still believe the Sunni version of events as well as put full faith in the phenomenon for which I have coined the name "subconscious infallibification of the Sahaba" (it's not that hard to discern what I mean here), you are retarded.1 point -
