  1. Salams everyone, I promised to share this story. Being a final year uni student, I am obliged to arrange my own internship position after graduation. For 6 months I have been going in person to every single pharmacy in every single suburb and asking for an internship. Yup, you can imagine the frustration! It was during this time were I realised that racism was a big issue here and the hijab isnt very welcome everywhere. I always told myself not to despair, although I couldnt help feeling depressed and the only thing on my mind was internship. To the extent that I was emotionally blinded. Even when my relative passed away, I did not feel the sorrow I would have felt if i was emotionally alive. It wasnt till one day where I get a phone call from someone called Ali that my depression went away. He was my first boss and the worst one i worked with. Subhanalla, he had a long beard, wore the muslim dress and never worked on friday. Yet, he stripped his employees of their rights. He went to hajj knowing that he underpaid me for my shift! He paid everyone cheap and made 150% use of them. He makes his staff work like a robot non-stop for such a cheap price. The only reason I put up with him is because he offered me an internship once I finish university. I hated his stingeness and manipulative nature as well as lack of courtesy. One day I was very upset from him and on the way back home to vent my anger I started writing SMS on my iphone. I never meant to send it to him. I was simultaneously listening to dua kumail and made duaa for Allah (swt) to help me. All of a sudden, I look at the iphone screen to realise that I sent my boss the SMS rather than deleting it!!! I pretty much told him how his job sucks and that I quit! OMG i went insane and did not know what to do. A few minutes ago I had an internship and a job and now I had nothing. I was back to being unemployed :( I lost my sanity and the only thing that kept me going was salatul layl and duaa to our 12th imam. Every day after salatul layl I will make duaa that I want my job back. To extent that this is the only thing I wanted in life. Reason being I have been job hunting every day since I quit, going from place to place and being rejected by everyone. I kept crying to get that job back. I then had a dream that my boss was talking to me and hiring me back. Subhanlla, I did not want to go to my friends engagement the following day but I forced myself. At 9pm that day (7 days after the incident of quitting) I get a phone call from Ali and he negotiates everything and pretty much hires me back!!!! Although I had an internship, it was a dodgy one and I knew that I will be trained to be a [Edited Out]py pharmacist if i stayed with him.. not to mention that he was still taking advantage of me. I found a part time job in another pharmacy and I took it with the hope that they offer me an internship. He was an egyptian christian who refused to pay me anything less than average and was extremely fair and generous person. I always had in mind that I will do my internship with him. We got along very well and I was favoured compared to all other staff. Towards the end of teh year,i directly asked him whether I have an internship he told me that he wont be able to offer me internship position for next year 2012 but he can offer me an assistant position! I was shocked! Yet unlike last time, i remained calm and remembered the quranic verse about saying ina lilah wa ana ilahi rajoun whenever something strikes. I kept saying it and that calmed me down further. In the next following month, internship positions were posted and everyone was applying. I got around 9 interviews but did not get any offer. One day I felt down. MAybe its not racism but I am not competent enough. Then subhanalla i recieve an email from an employer telling me that I made it to the top 3 candidates and that unfortunately he is no longer able to hire anyone but I performed exceptionally well. That put my self esteem up again. All my friends were recieving offers and I felt that I was punished for pushing working with Ali so much. I should have left my employment to Allah (swt) instead of begging and crying to get job back with Ali. Now i was stuck with Ali and its worst job on earth. Everytime somone gets a job from my collegues, I feel happy for them but start hitting depression. It wasnt till one day i realised that me spending my life thinking of internship wil not help and that at the end of the day, it was up to Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì. i tried really hard to stop thinking about it and to try and enjoy life again. I kept telling myself that Allah (swt) knows which job is best for me. Days passed and i was waiting for phone calls. Weeks passed and by now there were no more internship advertisements. the end of the year came and my collegues were already starting their internship. Ali was no longer interested in hiring me and he went overseas. At this stage, it no longer mattered to me whether i had a job or no. I will just stay home and keep myself busy with volunteer work at islamic centres etc i convinced myself. One day, I sincerely asked Allah (swt) after prayer to give me an internship. I knew that Allah (swt) will give me the rewards for the 8 months of trials and patience. Unexpectedly, I get an SMS as I was driving to the airport from a girl that used to go to my university. I probably spoke to her once in my life and was only superficial talk like: hi, bye... She asked me if i wanted an internship. How did she get my mobile? At the airport I also unexpectedly bumped into my friend who was boarding the plane in few min and she told me about a girl who called her and asked her specifically for my mobile! Subhanala how she was able to get my mobile before the girl boarded the plane and she contacted me and arranged everything. The job that i have now= I have never dreamt of getting! That girl who called me did not even remember the day were I bumped and spoke to her at uni! How did she remember me? How did she know my name? How did she know how to reach me? Allah Aeliam... Subhanalla al karim. The end :P

  3. (salam) I have not heard of Shia boys rejecting proposal because of the girl being a doctor. I have seen a Shia family where the woman who is a doctor is the bread winner of the family. Husband is not doing much, still struggling with his career. I have also seen doctors marrying other doctors. And I don't think all men reject women who are educated or career oriented. If fact, I have seen a lot of men being very supportive of their wife going to school and working.

  6. (bismillah) Brother imaan=faith put forward a great suggestion, which was to pick a book such as nahjul balagha, and we each study one sermon, then we arrange a time on skype [and people can join on skype to just listen in, and then at a later date we can also post the studies in a thread] (though reading it all may be long) to discuss the sermons that we all read so that we can all gain knowledge from it insha'Allah. This is one of the methods used in howza and is one of the fastest ways of reading + learning a book. There are 239 different Sermons in Nahjul Balagha, depending on the people who want to participate in this we can split it down i.e. if 3 people participate we can do 0-3 sermons - Week 1 (each person does 1 sermon) 4-7 - week 2 (each person does 1 sermon) 8-11 - week 3 (each person does 1 sermon) etc. etc.. Comment on here if you are willing to participate, once we get a good number of people then we can insha'Allah start, also once we start if you have a preference of any sermon then we can discuss that at that later date insha'Allah. 7. (salam) (bismillah) Be with the rightful. Abandon the falsehood. Let us finish the dispute. Let us curse the liars. 1. If Imam Ali a.s was not appointed successor of Prophet (pbuh) and Abu Bakar did not usurped his right then curse of Allah be upon me and if it was so then curse of Allah be upon those who say that Imam Ali a.s was not appointed successor of Prophet (pbuh). 2. If Fadak was not right of Bibi Fatima (a.s) and her claim was not justified according to Quran and Sunnah and Abu Bakar did not snatch her right wrongly then cure of Allah be upon me and if it was so then curse of Allah be upon those who say that Fadak was not right of Bibi Fatima a.s and Abu Bakar was right in his decision. 3. If Hazrat Abu Talib a.s was not Muslim (Nauzbillah) and Aby Sufyan was a true muslim then Curse of Allah be upon me but if Abu Talib a.s was Muslim and Abu Sufyan was a hidden Kafir and munafiq then curse of Allah be upon those who claim that Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s) was not muslim and Abu Sufyan (l.a) was muslim. 4. If in the battle of Jamal there was no fault of Aysha and Imam Ali a.s was wrong (Nauzbillah) then curse of Allah be upon me but if there was fault of Aysha and Imam Ali a.s was right in his approach then curse of Allah be upon those who take religion from Aysha who caused fitna in Ummah and caused irreparable loss to Islam. 5. If in the battle of Sifeen Muawvia l.a was right and Imam Ali a.s was wrong then wrath of Allah be upon me but if it was otherwise and Muawvia revolted against a rightful caliph then curse of Allah be upon those who believe that Muawvia was right and Imam Ali a.s was wrong. 6. If in the battle of Karbala Imam Hussain a.s endangered his life and fought a useless battle against Yazeed (l.a) then wrath of Allah be upon me and if Yazeed (l.a) was a fasiq, fajir ruler and Imam Hussain a.s was fully justified in doing jehad against Yazeed (l.a) then wrath of Allah be upon Yazeed (l.a) hidden and apparent supporters. Ameen Suma Ameen.

  16. I would LOVE to live in Venezuela under Chavez or Cuba under Castro, those two leaders in Latin America have taken their countries towards more "halal" goals. I live in the U.S and i think its the worst place to live in for Shi'a..it takes a great toll on ones conscience to know that you are a part of the empire and supporting its goals. I would love to live in Iran, and Japan as well. Yes, Pakistan is a terrible place for Shia to live in (i was born and raised in Pakistan)

People always talk about how bid'ah is such a horrible sin and show ahadith about how it is so, but they never actually say what it is. So, what is it? (wasalam)

  23. According to Nader Zaveri celebrating the Prophet's Birthday is a Bid'ah, but I don't see how that's adding anything to the religion when the Imams (as) said that their Shias are happy when they are and sad when they are as well. Can you? P.S: It's better if Nader himself answers the thread to refute any claims made against him.

The fact of the matter is, it's either political statement as you say, or it's a genuine threat. If i have a small knife and holding your baby in my hand, it doesn't matter if you have a tank, helicopter or a cruise missile, you still won't do anything to me with all your strength as long as i have your weakness by the throat. The same situation is with Iran and America, if this wasn't true, then America would have used his strength long time ago.

  26. I doubt if you are doing it halal way, because: 1. She is a pros----e and doing mutah with prostitute is makrooh. 2. Also she must not be doing iddah for 3 months after every breakup with you. You may be responsible for this. 3. Also she does not understand what is mutah, which will make it haram as well. Consult your Marja or the Shia center close by and ask an alim. This is easy enough case, so am sure tons of SC members can quote you the right ruling as well. Also this whole sex with Prost----te is totally unfathomable for me. How come a momin (a follower of Prophet and Imam) could even touch, let alone do that with such a filth. Isn't it one of the most intimate and personal stuff to your self? This is purely based on the yuck factor.

  33. Mention self-flagellation and it's guaranteed to bring certain anti-zanjeer types out of the woodwork giving their own opinions on it's permissibility. Recently at ashre Sajjadiyah mama is in Cricklewood Maulana Ghanzanfar Abbas Toosi (of India, not to be confused with similar named maulana from Pakistan) made a point that when it comes to love and devotion to Ahlulbayt [as] the practices are not always defined by simple 'laws' of Sharia . He didn't mean haraam becomes halaal before simpletons get over-excited. Most scholars say it's permissible (go check their websites), some encourage it and a few others discourage it with vague blanket statements about 'image' it portrays. Years ago at Chehlum jaloos in London an Iraqi maulana opened a suitcase full of zanjeers to distribute amongst the Indo-Pak Shia so they can do zanjeer-zani (in the middle of a BIG circle of people so almost invisible to casual onlookers). People practice azadari in different ways, that's what makes it so special and unique in Islam. All the pseudo-Bakris posturing about Shia not practicing wajibaat or it not being anything but a cultural throwback should maybe think about converting to Bakri aqueedah

  37. Islam is a full package, when it prohibits the male doctor from checking out female patients it provides the alternatives which is nothing but female doctors. One might argue that having the doctor role is incompatible with being able to fulfill the duties of the house, in compliance with the islamic guidelines. So what is the solution, has Islam left things without a solution? Many people will jump at me for saying this, but if you have multiple marriage then the burden of the child raising and the wife duties could be done by one of the wives while another could go out into the society, and this could be done based on their agreement and their preferences. Otherwise with monogamy it is very difficult for the wife to be able to fulfill everything, plus fulfill the house duties, plus go out into the work field. In the current situation, even western women who go out to work sacrifice many different things and pay someone else to do the childcare, which compromises their income and their children's upbringing and their wife duties.

These two are the most experienced in any kind of warfare and surpass by multiple of magnitudes from those Salafis who have been fighting on unlimited funds and unscathed support of the West and the GCC and still have not made huge inroads against any of the determined armies such as Northern Alliance, Pakistani army in certain parts of Pakistan, Indian army in Kashmir, Russians in Chechnya, and Chinese in Uyghur regions.

  43. There are two main reasons that are the cause of difference between Shia and Sunni. Everything else evolves around them. 1, The way of thinking [ideology]. 2, Right and wrong [Justice]. The Ahle Tashee way of thinking [ideology] is based on sense and logic with regards to reality and facts. What ever is according to sense and logic and is also based on reality and facts they will accept it. What ever is not, according to and is not based on, they will reject it. The Ahle Sunnah, on the other hand, believe in something at random [point blank]. Then what ever goes against it [their belief] they will reject it and what ever falls in favour with [their belief] they will accept it. Sense and logic/reality and facts don't have much need and use within the Ahle Sunnah world. Justice is a very important pillar of the Shia faith but according to the Ahle Sunnah it doesn't mean much. The Shia believe their Allah is just and fair where as the Ahle Sunnah believe in [Kherum-Minallah-wa-Sharum-Minallah] that both, good and evil, is from Allah. The Ahle Tashee have always accepted and stood by justice and denounced and opposed cruelty in all forms. Where as some from the Ahle Sunnah have accepted justice but never stood by it and denounced cruelty but never opposed it.

  44. Salaam alaikum sister, Thank you for asking these questions, some of which have the potential to lead to very deep discussions and the sharing of useful knowledge. Many of the questions you have asked are commonly floating around in the minds of different people, so it is very good to study them together and increase our own understanding. One thing I would like to comment on from your original introduction, is your statement that you wish the conversation to be conducted between sisters without the interference of brothers. In general I agree it could be beneficial to have any number of serious discussions focusing in on the view point of sisters. However, since brothers are able to read this topic, if they view something which is wrong and no one else is standing up and correcting the wrong statement, then they have a duty Islamically to address the wrong being stated. In this case they would not be allowed Islamically to avoid interference in a sister’s only topic. Inshallah I will try to answer some of your questions today and I will come back to answer others at a later time. 1. Do you believe Islam is a patriarchal religion? If so, do you have any trouble reconciling this? No, I believe that God is Just and He loves all of His creatures with a love that is so strong, it is unimaginable to us. And for this reason, He wants to guide all of His creatures towards true happiness and has provided every tool necessary at their disposal for them to reach this happiness, including a set of laws that are perfect, which provide the greatest benefit for all creatures. If God preferred one creature over another for a reason that this creature had absolutely no control over, would this be fair? No, it would not be fair. So it would not be fair for God to prefer one creature just because it was of a particular gender, or race, or possessed a particular level of wealth, or beauty or it is a human rather than an animal, etc. These are all uncontrollable factors. Therefore the body of laws that God provides His creatures with, must lead to all of the creatures obtaining their true happiness without favoritism for any particular group, otherwise God would not be Just. And it is logically impossible for God to be unjust, if He were unjust I would no longer believe He is truly the original cause of all causes. To understand why God must logically be Just is one of the basic pillars of a Muslim’s fundamentals. The fundamentals of the religion are the most important topic in the religion, that every Muslim needs to comprehend at the highest level possible. So inshallah if anyone wants me to further explain why God must logically be Just, please let me know and inshallah in the future I will elaborate on my own understanding. 2. Do you consider yourself a feminist? If so, how do you define 'feminism'? If not, why not? No, I define myself as a creature of God and as a Muslim (one who submits to Gods will, which is in the ability of every creature to do so). As God loves all His creatures and provides for all of them, I must also strive for the rights of all the creatures to be implemented (as this is the just thing to do). Regardless of the creature’s gender, age, race/nationality, religion or species, I must fight for their rights equally without allowing any group to oppress the rights of another. If the definition of a feminist is one who strives for the rights of women to be implemented, then I could be deemed a feminist (and striving for the rights of women) by others, if commitment to this cause would not exclude commitment to the fight for the rights of every other group within God’s creation. For example I would also have to be considered by others as a fighter for animal rights, male rights, children’s’ rights, adult’s rights, elderly rights, the racial and religious minorities rights and the rights of the religious and racial majority, and the list would continue until it encompasses the rights of every group in the creation. To need to define every sector of the creation for whom I fight for, would not be practical. So it is better to be classified under a name which defines me as a striver for the rights of all. Furthermore, I would not define myself separately under the names of each different group because I believe that the whole of creation should be looked upon as a whole whenever possible, to avoid the creation of barriers between us. The reason we should try to define ourselves as being part of one big group, is that God wants the whole of creation to work together in co-operation to achieve the greatest happiness for all, and all our actions should be aimed at achieving this goal. In order to achieve this goal, defining difference between groups of creatures is necessary only for obtaining the understanding of what each individuals role should be for the greatest benefit of the collective (different creatures will have different strengths and weaknesses, and therefore will provide greater benefit working in the areas of their strengths). But when deciding which group we as an individual should work to obtain the greatest benefits for, we should always make our priority the group as a whole (prioritize obtaining the rights of all of creation). If we prioritize achieving benefits and what we deem as ‘rights’ for just one or a few groups, we may overlook the rights of other groups and oppress them. So we need to consider the rights of all groups in the group as a whole, and try to apply equilibrium by following God’s laws. One of the biggest diseases faced by the human is the disease of prioritizing the self at the expense of others. We have to understand that we are created to co-exist in a system that will only function efficiently if there is harmony between every creature. We have to understand that for our self to achieve our greatest benefit, the whole has to achieve the greatest benefit. This is because, if every creature wanted for others the good that they want for their self, then logically no creature would harm another. Feminism combined with the ignorance of the rights of other groups, is another expression of the disease of the self. It is about prioritizing one’s self or one’s own group, in order to try to obtain the greatest benefits for this group. It is no different to racism, nationalism (believing ones nationality is superior), believing one’s religious group to be more important than others and believing adults are superior to children, etc. The desire to obtain benefits for one’s own group above others always comes back to the selfishness of wanting to obtain the greatest benefit for one’s self. And this is harmful if obtaining self benefits, is at the expense of the rights of others. However, being selfish is not necessarily a bad thing. It is necessary to want the greatest benefit for your self, it is a basic instinct God has placed inside all of us. God has placed inside us the desire to obtain the greatest benefit for our self and to avoid harm as much as possible. He has done this so that we will for strive to find the truth of what will really provide the greatest benefit for our self and for us to apply this in our life. If we study reality and discover what the truth really is, we will see that God is Just so He made achieving the greatest benefit for each individual creature directly tied to achieving the greatest benefit for all of the rest of creation. He did this so that there would be the maximum chance for all to receive the greatest benefit. And once we understand that our greatest benefit is achieved by obtaining the greatest benefit for all, then we will fight for justice for all and not just for imagined ‘benefits’ for our self and our own groups, at the expense of oppressing the rights of others. Bad selfishness, is wanting the greatest benefit for one’s self but not truly understanding what that is, and thereby oppressing others to obtain their rights (in the belief that you are gaining more benefit for your self), when truly you are harming the whole of creation (and thereby truly harming your own self). The only way to make your self and the rest of creation happy, is to know what truly are your own rights and what are the rights of the rest of the creation, and then by working to have these rights implemented in every situation we face in everyday life. You can only find out what the true harms and benefits are by finding out what are the true laws that the Just Creator has provided for us. Truly only the One who is Just and has knowledge of all things, can be the only true expert on what laws will provide the greatest benefit for all of His own creation. And that is why we must submit to His laws, for the happiness of our self and all creation, in this life and in the next.

  45. salam Alaikum Thanks brother for sharing publicly... well, I think there in no need to study whole Nahjul balaqah in 3 weeks, while it's not possible because in one session only 2 or 3 people can explain their studied sermon, not 20 people! while some of the sermons are long so it may take one or two sessions to be explained. Those who study also, how fewer they are, better can be studied. And in explanation session, all can attend ... wassalam
