    Disputation/argument

(salam) As I was looking for the next topic for my next thread, I thought it should be something directly relevant to this website. I've witnessed with my own eyes, brothers and sisters arguing with each other to the extent where they begin name calling. Although the term "name calling" seems like a very childish thing to do, some of these names are completely outrageous and are spluttered out in the moment of madness. Calling people terms like "ghulat" and then insulting their existence by saying something along the lines of "may Allah (swt) forgive your mother the day she bore you" is completely outrageous and displays poor levels of akhlaq. What is disputation/argument and what is the difference between discussing and arguing? There is a difference between discussing and arguing. I like to think of the difference between the two in terms of the mental approach towards the situation. For example, if you go into the dialougue with the state of mind "I will prove my point and make this person accept it" then it will surely become a dispute because there is no value in discussing like this if you're not going to change your mind. A discussion state of mind will be "I have this point of view, but I want to find out more and see the other point of view then come to a decision" That is the difference between the two. Hadiths on disputation: The Prophet (saws) said "A servant will not perfect the reality of his faith until he abandons disputation, even if he is right"-muniyat al murid p 171 The Prophet (saws) said "The most pious of people is he who abandons disputation, even if he is right"-amali al saduq p73 no 41 Imam Ali (as) said "Beware of disputation and argument, for they sicken the hearts against brothers, and hypocrisy grows from them"-al kafi v2 p 300 no 1 Imam Ali (as) said "One should not dispute with six types of people: the jurist, the leader, the low, the lewd, the woman, and the child"-ghurar al hikam no.5634 (doesn't mean that they're the only people you don't dispute with) Imam Sadiq (as) said "Humbleness is to...abandon disputation, even if one is right"-ma'ani al akhbar p 381 no 9 Imam Al-Hadi (as) said "Disputation corrupts old friendships, undoes strong ties, and the least of it brings about aggression, and aggression is the basic cause of cutting off relations.- a'lam al din p 3111 Do these hadiths not clarify the danger of disputation enough? These hadiths simply but surely outline and warn people of arguing with each other. How to avoid disputation: Disputation is actually one of the easiest things to avoid, without a doubt! Just simply think to yourself "if they don't want to learn, then May Allah (swt) guide them" Also just think before you say what you will say and question yourself as to whether it could lead to something that would become a dispute. As soon as the conversation becomes aggressive just abandon the conversation and leave it as it is, because the Imams warned against dispute, and you will be acting on their words and being humble as the hadith says! Also if you detect the other person in the dialogue is in the "dispute" state of mind then stop conversing with them because you'll be wasting your time. If you continue after you have recognised that they're of this state of mind, then it could be considered that this is simply your ego telling you to prove your point. InshaAllah this post has benifited people and inshaAllah we avod dispute for our benefit and always have the "discussion" state of mind. (wasalam)

  6. HOW DARRE YOU INSULT KHALID IBN WALID??? ARE YOU SAYING YOU'RE A BETTER MUSLIM THAN THE SAHABAS? CONCENTRATE ON YOUR OWN DEEN INSTEAD OF JUDGING OTHERS. Gosh, this is the reason I can NEVER UNITE with the Rafidah who insult our mother and our beloved sahabas (May Allah grant them all Jannah, even though they killed each other).

    My Behaviour

I'm a female, so you may want to disregard my advice, but here it is anyway. I hope it's of benefit to you. I can completely relate with your feelings. I am quite shy in social gatherings. I can usually do quite well in a one-to-one situation, but as soon as there is a group of people, I slink off into the background and hope people don't notice I'm there. With me, I get very awkward around Muslim men, no other men, just muslim ones, which is very....err...unfortunate. I am always paranoid that people mistake my shyness for rudeness. But, and I know it might be hard, try and not think of how other people (person you are trying to speak to) is perceiving you. The more you think of that, the less you'll be able to think of interesting things to say. Main strategy I suggest you try and employ would be to think ahead of the people you will be meeting at this gathering. Try and think if there are any people who you would be more comfortable with socialising with and try and hand around with them more. After having exchanged pleasantries, If you're struggling with things to say, think of that day's news you think the other party would find interesting, or relates to them in some way, and just bring it up in conversation 'Did you hear of uni fees' etc etc. Try and take conversation from there. The other thing you could try is asking questions, although you have to be careful not to come across as a nosy aunty. If people are busy answering questions, they don't usually have time to think about anything else. I have usually found them too busy trying to come up with interesting answers, than think about anything else!!

  11. I love it how there are Muslims who will moan and complain all day long about Muslims being too lazy and corrupt. Then when something like the Islamic Revolution happens, do these fancy intellectual Muslims join in or do any work? No! They sit back and criticize the new Islamic government. They don't do anything to actually make it better, but just sit back and compare it to Western countries which are 300 year old working democracies and complain. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei IS the rightful Wali Amr Al Muslimeen because he has risen up to the challenge and taken it, while no one else had the courage. Now as long as he doesn't do anything clearly against Islam I believe that all Muslims must follow him. Any Muslim who says, "I don't support Iran because it is not perfect" is just a hypocrite. Now is not the time to bicker about but unite. Dont ask what Ayatollah Khamenei has done for Muslims outside Iran. What have Muslims outside Iran done for Ayatollah Khamenei that he should help them? Is it fair that Muslims around the world shall sit on their asses and complain and Ayatollah Khamenei should do everything for them?

Ali bin Ibrahim from his father (Ibrahim bin Hashim) from Ibn Fadhal from Ibn Bukayr from Abi Basir who said : I asked Aba Abdillah (a.s) on the ‘qunuut’, so He (a.s) said : it is (in those prayers) that are to be recited by raising the voice aloud, he (Abi Basir) said : I said to him : I asked your father the same question and He (al-Baqir) (a.s) said : In all the five daily prayers, so He (al-Sadiq) (a.s) said : May Allah (s.w.t) have mercy on my father, the companions of my father had approached him and asked him so he answered them with the truth, and then they approached me with doubt (and fear) so I replied to them with ‘taqiyyah’ (dissimulation). 8. Muhammad bin Ismail from Fadhl bin Shadhan from Hammad bin Isa from Hariz (bin Abdillah) from Zurara (bin A’yan) who said : I said to Abi Ja’far (a.s) : A man forgets the ‘qunuut’ (in prayer), and he remembers his lapse while walking in some of the roads/streets, so He (a.s) said : let him face the ‘qibla’ (direction of prayer) and say it (the ‘qunuut’), then He (a.s) said : Indeed I do hate the man who becomes distant (a stranger) to the ‘sunnah’ of the messenger of Allah (s.a.w.w) or loses it. 13. http://www.huffingto..._n_1028970.html "Gaddafi Sodomized? Video Shows Libyan Leader Attacked By Captors (WARNING: Graphic)" The horrific murder and mutilation of Muammar Gaddafi by al-Qaeda terrorists/the new NATO and US supported leaders of Libya under Abdelhakim Belhadj and the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (i.e. allies who fought alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan until 2002), is seeming more and more like what was done by the Taliban in Afghanistan to the brutalized corpse of Afghani leader Mohammad Najibullah. The Taliban castrated Najibullah before they killed him in Afghanistan in 1996, and today the al-Qaeda rebels in Libya seem to have brutally sodomized Gaddafi before slaughtering him and parading around with his abused corpse (just like their allies in the Taliban did with Najibullah's body back in Kabul in September 1996). http://www.philly2ph...h_will_libya_be "Muammar Gaddafi's Death: Will Libya Become the New Afghanistan?" Quote- More reports raise concens about the character of the rebels. CBS News recently quoted former CIA officer Bruce Riedel as saying the following.... "There is no question that al Qaeda's Libyan franchise, Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, is a part of the opposition. It has always been Qaddafi's biggest enemy and its stronghold is Benghazi. What is unclear is how much of the opposition is al Qaeda/Libyan Islamic Fighting Group - 2 percent or 80 percent." It appears the U.S. Middle East policy has a schizophrenic nature to it, filled with blatant contradictions. Why are we on the side of al-Qaeda in Libya but against them in Iraq and Afghanistan? end quote. Note when ascertaining what percentage al-Qaeda is among the rebels (the others are ex-Gaddafi loyalists who defect before Gaddafi could reveal their corrupton and monarchists) you can simply see two of the al-Qaeda affiliated rebel commanders. al-Qaeda asset Abdelhakim Belhadj controls Tripoli today as Tripoli's military commander, and another leading Libyan rebel commander (for the NTC) is actually a former US detainee at Guantanamo! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/wikileaks/8472816/WikiLeaks-Guantanamo-detainee-is-now-Libyan-rebel-leader.html "WikiLeaks: Guantanamo detainee is now Libyan rebel leader" Quote- In a newly disclosed file by WikiLeaks that was written in 2005, Abu Sufian Ibrahim Ahmed Hamuda Bin Qumu was identified as a “probable member of Al Qaida and a member of the African Extremist Network”. The revelation will raise concerns about the range of factions fighting Gadaffi in Libya, some of whom have been associated with Al Qaeda. Qumu was previously a member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, but allegedly left the proscribed group in 1998 to join the Taliban. end quote.

  19. According to some it is haram to be jealous of another wife and it would also be haram for a woman to ask for divorce because her husband married another. I know in my case if my husband did this I wouldn't be able to control my jealousy, it would be automatic and I would not be able to suppress it no matter how hard I tried. To be honest my heart would fill with hate if something like this happened to me and the only way to escape it would be to divorce my husband or I may destroy my soul with hate and jealousy. This hate and jealousy would in turn cause me to sin, become a horrible person and displease Allah. So what would be recommended then....would divorce on the grounds of my husband taking a second wife still be haram if it would literally drive me crazy physically and mentally?

There are two situations. One, when you feel that your content (what you want to say) and style of delivery (how exactly do you say) ought to be a certain way but you can't actually control it, thus feeling awkward at your final content and its delivery. Two, when you are rather fine with your content and style but either your listeners expect it to be different or they make you feel it is awkward. There's that subtle difference somewhere.

    My Behaviour

I used to be a lot shy around people like during majalis and milad although I have always been a good public speaker, so I trained myself to not be shy around people in a gathering setting when I'm not on stage. I read a couple of books on how to take the lead in any situation, and then I invented ways to keep myself engaging in any social gathering. Here are some rules: 1. Always smile when you talk. 2. Introduce yourself first. Be extrovert. Suppress your innate introvert personality. Remind yourself that you are going to talk to 10 strangers today before going to any gathering. 3. Go introduce yourself to everybody in the group. Say you have 20 girls sitting there, go talk to each one of them, shake hand, smile, ask their name, do a quick chat for a couple of minutes and move on. 4. Do not stick to one group. Talk to everybody in a small group and then move on to the next group. 5. Be confident, Project confidence by being friendly, chatty, but not loud, and stick to the norms. Do not act like a cow girl in the bunch of cuties. You know what I mean. 6. Do you work out? Definitely workout, this will give you added confidence. Look thinner, prettier without layers of makeup, dress neat, and people will compete for your company. 7. See people as people not as strangers. If you are going to Shia gatherings, then think of what you have in common, your faith. Force yourself to find somethng good inthem rather than something bad in them. Basically find reasons to relate and not the reasons to not relate. 8. Never be impressed by anyone. If you find them a little show off, just think of the insecurities they might have. Basically level them to the level of everybody else. 9. Listen more than talk. When talk, give your opinion and slightly change the direction of the topic. but do not listen and sit there as a dumb stone. Make sure you have introduced people in the group already and have already carried out a small talk with everybody in the group. 10. If there are a couple of strangers in the group you are talking to, and they are already talking something, just jump in with a smile. Comment on something related. Say something quirky and funny and there you go, you are insider now. 11. Many people do not be the first to say salam or hello. Very common among desis. Break the mold. Say salam first but later converse with them in the patronizing way. So you keep your equal status in conversation.

You are giving him reasons and describing MKO as he doesn't know them and out of mercy and his beliefs he thinks MKO is good for Iran. He is the same guy who called Iranians as 'majosees' (I have no idea what they mean by that and how that is an insult to label Muslims in Iran as such). He repeatedly justified almost anything from war to any accusation against Iran and its Islamic government... He was begging an Iranian-American in Iraq forum, thinking the guy was a blond American that, 'you Americans gifted Iraq to Iran' And 'if we teamed up' as before we could destroy Shias and Iran and Shias in Iraq would have been oppressed and Iran-Iraq relation will never opened. MKO is supported by sick minded ppl like Saddam, this guy and some haters in the West nowadays, not that they think that MKO can bring peace or democracy according to their standards to Iran... BUT, because they know MKO is the worst terrorist group who is mastered in trouble making and fitna, could ever happen to Iran... And through MKO they could destabilize and bring miseries to Iran and its people. The evil MKO is chosen for its evilness--out of HATRED.

    Who Is Ahmad Al Hassan?

hadith that you have posted is da'if  Imam as-Sadiq (as) said: “The city of Kufah will soon be void of believers, and knowledge and learning will depart from there and like a snake coiled up in a corner, it will be restricted to and emerge from a city named “Qum”, which will become the center of knowledge and virtue as well as the repository of learning and perfection so much so that no (intellectually) downtrodden person—including the secluded women—would ever be left on the surface of the earth without being aware of religion. And that time will be near the time of the advent of our Qa’im. God will appoint Qum and its people as his (al-Mahdi’s) vicegerents and if it were not so, the earth will swallow its inhabitants and no proof will remain on earth. Therefore, from the city of Qum knowledge and learning will spread to the east and west, and the proof for the people of the world will be completed such that no person will be left unaware of religion and knowledge. At that time, Hadrat Qa’im (‘atfs) will appear and through him divine wrath will descend upon the infidels. It is because God will not take vengeance from His servants unless the proofs were completed on them.” Safinah al-Bihar, vol. 2, p. 445 Imam as-Sadiq (as) said: “Had it not been for the people of Qum, religion would have vanished.” Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 60, p. 217. A group of people came to Imam as-Sadiq (as) and said to him: “We are among the people of Rey.” He (as) said: “Hail to our brothers from among the people of Qum!” They repeated several times: “We have come from Rey.” And he (as) also repeated his statement. Then, he (as) said: “God has a sanctuary which is in Mecca. There is also a sanctuary for the Messenger of Allah and it is in Medina. Kufah is the sanctuary of the Commander of the Faithful (‘a) while our (Ahl al-Bayt’s) sanctuary is the city of Qum and a daughter from my progeny with the name of Fatimah will soon be buried there. Anyone who would sincerely pay homage (ziyarah) to her, paradise would be incumbent upon him.” Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 60, p. 217. Imam as-Sadiq (‘a) said: “Difficulties and problems will be kept away from Qum and its people and a time will come when Qum and its people would be the proofs for all people. This will be so during the period of occultation (ghaybah) of our Qa’im till his advent, and if it were not so, the earth would swallow its inhabitants." Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 60, p. 213. you don't know how many shia will live during reappearance you don't know population of Qum during reappearance Do you still claim to know ilm-e-ghaib?

If I see a person whose sins are more than his good deeds I will keep the salutations recited on me by him in the pan of good deeds and make it tilt in his favour.” [Thawab al-A’amal - Page 40 and page 198]

    Bad Habits

Reminds me of Imam Ali's (as) hadith: "Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny."

  40. Honestly, if smoking marijuana is haram than smoking ciggerettes and hookah is haram becus they can also get you light headed and make you feel your not in a balanced state of mind. Furthermore hookah and ciggerettes are harmful to your body MUCH more harmful then weed. Im not saying lets all get high but something doesnt seem right if tabacoo and carcinagents that are in hookah and cigs. is a debatable issue between haram and halal...why cant weed also be in there?..its natural its a planet its not chemical and no prophet or angel deemed it haram and mostly Allah (s.w.t) didnt either.

  41. Good idea.......I wonder if a Higgens appreciation thread would get trashed :donno: hahahahaha. Please refer to this link http://en.wikipedia....stine_relations as it may be why he is going crazy hahahaha. Refugees The first group of Palestinian refugees from Iraq arrived in India in March 2006. Generally, they were unable to find work in India as they spoke only Arabic though some found employment with the UNHCR's non-governmental partners. All of them were provided with free access to governmental hospitals. Of the 165 Palestinian refugees from Iraq in India, 137 of them found clearance for resettlement in Sweden.[20] Perhaps he didn't get clearance for Sweden and he is one of the 28 Palestinians left at his camp in India :shaytan:

    Adam And Eve

(bismillah) (salam) I found your theory intriguiung, iSilurian. It would be excellent if you could turn it into a fully-fledged article or a series of articles which explains the consequences of such a theory on religion and theology. Perhaps theology would be able to better accommodate scientific findings and acquire a new sort of Logic by which to examine and interpret religious statements about the world. (wasalam)

    Wali Amr Al-muslimeen: Poll

There is this really obvious point that your simple mind can't seem to grasp- Imam Ali (as) was just and infallible. His punishments were justified because he was far more insightful/fair than the political/spiritual leaders we have today (especially those who wear the corrupt hat of politicians and the turban of a scholar). So no, he wouldn't call Amirul Momineen any "horrible name" because he finds your analogy insulting and disrespectful as a Shia. You can worship Khamenei all you like, but refrain from analogies that compare his petty politics to the actions of my Imam. Edit: What does them being given their right to rule have to do with anything? Had they been given the right to rule.. you think they would have been silencing opposition? You can't possibly miss the irony.
