Pseudo-akhbari Accusations Against the Maraaji'
rotten_coconut and one other reacted to Gypsy for a topic
(salam) Akhbaris and Usoolis are not Shia sects. We don’t have different Imams or books. We use the same hadiths collection. And our past scholars are the one and the same. Even among the Usoolis you have disagreement. For e.g someone pointed out (I think MysticKnight) why do Usoolis disagree on rulings for Chess? Some scholars say you are allowed to play and some scholars disallow you to even own a chessboard. And I guess it is human nature to disagree. Nowadays it is getting very hard to define what mainstream Shia is anymore. Is Wilayah al-Faqih now a part of the mainstream Shia? The reason I am asking is because if we are trying to push all the Akhabari ideas out of the main forum then we need to do a more through job of cleansing the non-Usoolis ideas that are regularly promoted by the Usoolis themselves.2 points -

Pseudo-akhbari Accusations Against the Maraaji'
Aabiss_Shakari and one other reacted to Ya Aba 3abdillah for a topic
Unity doesn't mean we have to agree with each others doctrine. Sunnis are only confined to discussing their doctrine in the Sunni Dialogue sub-forum. Similarly, we really should have a sub-forum just under that one dedicated to Pseudo-Akhbarism where those that wish to make the Halal of Khums and Taqlid as Haram, can confine their views in that sub-forum. This way the Shia aren't corrupted to a level that is happening now when our Scholars are attacked by the Sunnis and the Pseudo-Akhbaris.2 points -
Pseudo-akhbari Accusations Against the Maraaji'
UIE and one other reacted to rotten_coconut for a topic
Salam, I think some of Usulli are over reacting with the accusations that Akhbaris refuse to pay khums because they don't want to give their money or they want to weaken the financial's position of Marja'. Probably, there are some Akhbaris who think that way, but as we're commanded to avoid bad prejudice especially to fellow Shi`i, I can see if some Akhbaris refuse the obligation of khums in the time of ghaybah because for them it's not an obligation. The most common arguments used by Akhbaris for the non-obligation of khums during ghaybah: 1. Tauqi`at of Imam `Asr 2. The diverse opinion of early Shi`i `ulama regarding this, implying there was no unanimous command from the Aimmah (as) on what to do regarding khums in the time of ghaybah 3. The (present) concept of marja`iyyah which according to Akhbari was not present in the time of early Shi`i `ulama. Reading the materials on this issue, I also have unresolved issues with the obligation of khums during ghaybah, but nevertheless I think it's better to pay this as ihtiyat even if you are not convinced of its obligation. Furthermore, khums can help Shi`i `ulama to be able to have independence from any outside interference, different from Sunni `ulama which usually depend on the mercy of their government (example: Egypt). One point which I'd like to point out is be careful with our accusation & keep the discussion on the rational level. We don't want our accusations (especially if it turns out to be false) to be something that burden us in the hereafter, right?2 points -
Guy wat the heck is with these random obessions? first everyone goes and bashes on the follow of Ahmad Al Hasan now the Akhbaris whose next? the islaemis or the Zaydis or the Nusayris? really guys? we are the followers of the Best of Personalities who are dearly loved by the Most High to whom all praise is due, so let us not lose our level by having these offense threads. We are Shia of Ahlul Bayt of Allah's Blessing onto all worlds (SAW) not wahabi hate-mongors. if someone is misguided then guide them and if they wish not to pay heed then to them their way and to us our path. I hope i have not offended anyone i just think it needs to be said.2 points

Pseudo-akhbari Accusations Against the Maraaji'
UIE and one other reacted to The Persian Shah for a topic
It seemed like they passed it down for a while, until they realised this can't really be the right thing to do.. For this reason the eminent leaders of the Imamites, al-Mufid (d.413/1022) and al-Tusi (d. 460/1067), refused to give themselves authority over the half of the khums [824]which was set aside for the Imam. Al-Mufid held that any faithful follower who wanted to pay the Imam's share should put it aside and either keep it in a safe place or bury it. In case of his death, he should turn it over to a trustworthy person to give to the Imam when he rises. As for the other half of the khums, which is called sadat share, it should be divided into three shares and distributed equally among the needy members of the Prophet's family, i.e. the orphans, the poor and the penniless travellers.[825] Al-Mufid's view was also held by such later scholars as al-Tusi, Abu al-Salah and Ibn Zahra al-Halabi. This consensus among the Fuqaha' concerning the khums continued until the 7th/13th century. But since the Twelfth Imam's occultation prolonged, the believers did not know what to do with the Imam's share in the khums, which they have been trusted with by their predecessors. By the beginning of the 7th AH/13th century the Imamite Fuqaha',in particular, al-Muhaqiq al-Hilli wanted to solve this problem. He began receiving the Imam's share in the khums and spent it on religious activities serving the Shiite cause. This step taken by the later Fuqaha' marked a break with the authority of the earlier Fuqaha'. http://webcache.goog...uk&client=opera2 points -
Literal And Implied Meanings
The Persian Shah and one other reacted to .InshAllah. for a topic
I think that some people are doing tafsir without realising any of the following.. 1. Meaning isnt solely determined by the words that make up the sentence. Many times, meaning is partly constituted by the context the sentence is uttered in. For example, you cannot understand 'The table is red' unless you know the context of this utterance - which particular table the speaker means. Another way of putting it is that meaning is constituted by internal as well as external factors. Ignoring the external factors puts you at risk of misunderstanding. 2. Sometimes one can utter a truth, whilst implying a falsehood. For example, suppose that John is a great philosopher, yet when Tom who is also a philosopher asks his colleague what he thinks of John, he replies, ''he has nice handwriting''. Although this is literally true, it implies a falsehood, namely that John isn't a very good philosopher. Another example - a woman is giving birth, and after hours of hard labour she finally delivers. She looks at the midwife expectantly for news of how her baby is. The midwife says, ''congratulations, its a baby!''. What the midwife literally says is true, but she implies a falsehood - she implies that the baby is ugly or theres something wrong with it. 3. Conversely and more importantly, sometimes one can utter a literal falsehood, but in doing so convey a truth. Someone asks you whether you know anything about birds, and you reply ''I cant tell a crane from a canary''. Of course youre not literally that bad, but the implication is that you dont know very much about birds. Any competent speaker would understand this implicature. Or to take the philosopher example above, suppose that John is in fact a bad philosopher, and also has bad handwriting. If Tom's colleague replied in the way that he did, he would utter a falsehood, but imply a truth. Metaphors can convey truths whilst literally being false. 'Imam Ali was a lion' is literally false as lions are furry animals with claws, yet we do not say of that statement that it is false, because it conveys a truth - that Imam Ali is strong. What's important to realise is that saying literal falsehoods isnt necessarily a bad thing if what is implied/conveyed is an important truth.2 points -
That kind of approach is rude and inappropriate, to begin with. Shows poor character, imho. The whole point of marriage, permanent or temporary, is to establish love, respect and integrity between the couple. And you can't do that by approaching a muslimah n saying, "Hey babe, wanna do mutah?" dunno who's been preaching you mutah manual but the above approach does not work well for those muslim women who really give a damn about it.2 points

Munazara [debate]: Farid Versus Walid (wasil)
Muntaqim Force and one other reacted to Saved for a topic
TwoBlade, let me tell you the background to this whole debate started by Farid. My brother, slaveofahlubait wrote an article about Ibn Majah, the author of Sunan Ibn Majah. See http://ahlubait.wordpress.com/2011/06/19/tautheeq-of-ibn-maja/ None of Ibn Majah's contemporaries praised him. Rather, NONE of the early Sunnee rijaal scholars did any tawtheeq for him! The first individual to have ever graded him "thiqah" was one of the later scholars. Ibn Majah was pretty much unknown among his contemporaries and the early Sunnee rijaalists. Note that! Farid responded, and my brother counter-replied here http://www.shiaforums.com/vb/f234/reliability-scholars-without-early-tawtheeq-8273/ Farid was losing it all the way. He now wanted to take revenge. So, he searched for a major Shee'ah scholar whom he thinks is like Ibn Majah, and found whom he found. But he was mistaken, because the Shee'ah narrator he picked is clearly different from Ibn Majah! Note what Farid himself said about Ibn Majah in post 33 of that debate: Furthermore, the first clear tawtheeq of Ibn Majah (d. 273 AH) was by Al-Khaleel (d. 446 AH), at least, does not even hit the two hundred year mark. The question is: WHY??? The rest is open for you, TwoBlade. You are suggesting that lack of tawtheeq by early scholars or contemporaries is evidence of weakness. Are you prepared to apply that same principle to Ibn Majah?2 points -

Allah SWT is Al-Wadud - The Loving. So all pure and sincere love flows from HIM - just ask HIM to endow your heart with love for HIM, and HE Will, In Sha Allah Ta'aala. Simple. It is not possible to convince, coerce, or persuade oneself to love Allah SWT - anymore than it is possible to believe in and trust HIM, independently of HIS Will. Just as human beings need to earn Allah SWT's love, so too do they need to comprehend that loving Allah SWT is a manifestation of HIS Presence and Special Grace. Having said the above, I think you already love Allah SWT deeply - but have not yet realized it at a wholly conscious level. If you did not love HIM, you would not have asked the question - for it would have seemed irrelevant and insignificant to you. Wa Llahu 'Alam. May Allah The Most Beloved, Beautiful and Blessed One, increase in our hearts light-filled, abiding and ever-living love for HIM. Ameen.2 points

Question To Akhbaris
habib e najjaar and one other reacted to Ya Aba 3abdillah for a topic
What you must realize is, only the a minority group will even attempt to answer your questions. What the minority group will do is the following: 1. Get out their books and search tools. 2. Get the Arabic dictionary handy. 3. Get the rijaal books ready. 4. Sit for a few hours researching what you've asked. Now this is the problem: 1. Most are likely to make an error in verdicts, because their research wasn't as thorough as it could be. 2. The research wasn't as thorough because they haven't spent a great part of their lives studying the sciences of ahadith. 3. And if they are well versed, then they are only a very small proportion of the Shia. What happens next is: 1. They'll paste the ahadith for you. 2. They will say Scholar A says, and Scholar B says and Scholar C says from Book X and Book Y and Book Z. What actually happened was: 1. The pseudo-akhbaris did their research in a similar way to what a Mujtahid would have. 2. They in fact practiced Ijtihad because a less knowledgeable individual who can't figure out the questions himself, asked someone who has some knowledge in the sciences. The result is: 1. Little psuedo-akhbaris that can't tell their right hand from their left will say "hahaha see, no need for taqleed" 2. The impression that's then spread is that Taqleed isn't needed. 3. The respect for our great scholars is lost. 4. Our leadership starts coming into question as there's a breakdown in our Ummah's structure. 5. Everyone starts questioning the ability of the scholars. 6. The people are misguided. 7. The misguided help to misguide others. We can conclude therefore that: 1. The pseudo-akhbaris are ignorant of the damage that they're doing; or 2. They know what they're doing; and/or 3. Are doing it on purpose due to politically motivated purposes or are a remnant/bi-product of previous politically motivated individuals that misguided less knowledgeable individuals. And finally what must be done is: 1. Educate the masses about the inherent flaws of laymen self-declared Mujtahids conjuring up their own fatwas. 2. Putting a stop to such misguidance. Alhamdulillah there seems to be a reversing trend here as more members are becoming aware of what's happening. Good luck getting your answers :) Long live our righteous Scholars, the ropes of our religion and the guides of our people.2 points -

(bismillah) After having read all the 'You know you're persian if...' or 'You know you're arab if..' I've come up with my own one. I don't know if this has been done before and it's not meant to offend.. You Know You’re Shia When… You get excited when you hear they’re giving food at the mosque :!!!: You’re even more Shia if the food is what causes you to attend the lecture in the first place :!!!: :!!!: You name your first son Ali, not Mohammed You know more about the Sunni faith, than Sunni’s do ;) Your hubby does NOT look like this (no offence if he actually does) You either love the Iranian government or hate ‘em The only time you envy Sunni’s is in Ramadan when you’re still staring at the clock…and they’ve started eating :( You own a beautiful Dhulfiqar If not..you’re patiently waiting for a friend to go to Iran or Iraq to get you one :squeez: You feel happy when you see a fellow Shia on the street (usually identify them by their Dhulfiqar chain or bushy eyebrows) The likes of Zakir Naik make your skin crawl :shaytan: You spend ages on a Shia forum, bickering about Islamic issues  You secretly believe your Marja is better than everyone else’s  You dream about doing Muta with the girl next door, or any girl for that matter…alas it never happens (guys) You wish you didn’t need the father’s permission to do Muta (girls) You visit Karbala more than Makkah and Medina You will automatically hate someone if their name is Yazid (trust me there’re a lot of them out there) You do a ridiculous amount of Taqqiya You’re reading this list thinking, damn there’s a lot of stuff missing (blame that on SC rules and No. 18) Feel free to add any...there are two actual hilarious ones that I absolutely cannot post up...but I’m sure you guys can come up with better ones.1 point

Question To Akhbaris
habib e najjaar reacted to Aabiss_Shakari for a topic
(salam) I have few question from Akhbaris. As Akhbaris claim that there is no need of Taqleed of a Mujtahid in Islam and one can recourse to Quran and Hadiths of Prophet (pbuh) and Ahl ul bait a.s for knowing about any verdict on a issue. Therefore, i want to know what is Akhbari reply on the basis of Quran and sayings of Ahl ul bait a.s in the following Issues. 1. Is heart transplant or liver transplant allowed or not? Please provide Quranic reference or reference from hadiths of Prophet (pbuh) and Ahl ul bait a.s. 2. What is the ruling for a person who forgot to offer Tashud in prayer. As taqleed is not allowed please provide direct reference from Quran and sayings of Prophet (pbuh) and Ahl ul bait a.s. 3. If you have answer from Quran and sayings of Ahl ul bait a.s regarding the aforementioned issues and you paste them here with relevant references (as i do not have direct access to so many books and i have not specialized in Islamic knowledge) and i accept this then will it not mean that I have literally followed you though you have just informed me about hadiths and Quranic verses regarding the matter in question. Will it not mean that you have taught me and I did your "Taqleed" in this issue? I shall put more questions as the thread will proceed. Looking forward for the response of those who are against Ijtehad and Taqleed and Pseudo-Akhbaris.1 point -

Pseudo-akhbari Accusations Against the Maraaji'
baradar_jackson reacted to Ya Aba 3abdillah for a topic
The argument is, there are people misguiding members through their teachings that taqlid/ijtihad and khums are haram. The argument is that a limit has to be placed on such deviant teachings, by at least confining their discussions to a sub-forum, just as sunni/zaidi/ismaili/fatimi/etc teachings are confined to a sub-forum. The argument is that freedom of speech has its limits. Sayyid Sistani and Imam Khomaini demonstrated such a concept by shutting two deviants up. We shouldn't provide an open platform for the propagation of deviant teachings. Saying Ijtihad/Taqlid and Khums are haram today on the Shia are deviant teachings. If they were haram, Sayyid Sistani would also say they're haram. If they are haram under Shia Creed, and Sayyid Sistani permits them, then I raised the question, Is Sayyid Sistani misleading the Shia?1 point -

Nope. A sincere announcement. If you want to start quoting ahadith, i'll give you some more relevant ones. "Uluma' umati khayrun min anbiya' banu Israel" - "The scholars of my 'uma are greater than the Prophets of Israel" Hadith from the Prophet Mohammed Õáì Çááå Úáíå æÂáå æÓáã, and it is a hadith Mutawatir. The hadith was explained by Syed Al-Khoei, who upon asked about it, said "Indeed this hadith refers to the scholars of Ahlul-bayt, but not the likes of me." Of course, we must remember that our scholars are humble, and of course Syed Al-Khoei would say "not the likes of me". I'll also give you another hadith Mutawatir - "The Ghiba of an 'alim is the same as eating the poisoned flesh of your brothers corpse" (as oppose to normal Ghiba, which is just eating the flesh of a corpse).1 point -

[update] Sistani Speaks On The Mockery Of Imams
habib e najjaar reacted to Ali_Hussain for a topic
(salam) First off, I feel I should I should clear this up, so as not to be too much of a hypocrite, I did actually watch the following films Maryam al muqaddasah (film and series) The one about nabi Isa (as) The one about nabi Suleymaan (as) And I must say the best one was the arabic Maryam al muqaddasah series, and it was the one where the put a light over the faces of the prophets (as) not sadly not of sayeda Maryam (as)- though there were other reasons as to why it was better. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As to what we should do? I'm not sure really, first off, we need to not make too much of a fuss about it (at this point), as in the past, some films would not have had high viewing figures, until people made a big fuss about them, then people went to see it, in order to see what all the fuss was about (as I recall the passion of the Christ was a bit like that, though it may have been another film) Obviously, some people are going to have to watch it, so we can go a bit deeper in our criticism of this series. However, do we even know what kind of audience this is actually going to reach? Will more moderate sunnis really even believe what is in it, Mu’awiya was no saint, even by sunni ahadith, so if it is only for a wahabi audience, then perhaps we should just leave it. However, if is reaching a moderate sunni audience, then the best thing we can do, is to counter this propaganda ourselves, as this is a subject everyone should have a decent amount of knowledge in. Though again, it would only be in certain (or al) arabic speaking countries, if al azhar have already spoken out against it, then maybe that will be a good starting point when discussion the series with sunnis. If peace tv, and other non Arabic language channels intend to translate this and show it, then yes, I agree, that a different approach might be needed. ws1 point -

There are 2 editions, one is in 4 volumes, the other is in 8 volumes. The older one is in 8 volumes. This man is the SCARIEST man that has EVER been known as "Shaykh al-Islam" The man who said man kuntu mawlaa fa haatha aliyyun mawlaa is a weak hadith!!!! He has made so many lies about Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal. The one who compared the Prophet's daughter (Sawa) to hypocrites. man I give up. Anyone who knows a LITTLE about the knowledge of Hadith should read the joke he has written "Minhaj al-Sunnah"1 point
