Debates/arguments Becoming Insulting
Kamranistan and 4 others reacted to Muhammed Ali for a topic
I agree with Shia_Debator an Kamran. We are shia and we supposed to have high standards. I have to say in my opinion this site has hit it's lowest point since its launch. I have never see so many hate filled and abusive posts in all the years that I have been a member. In the past some moderators used to actually warn and ban shias for being abusive. It's about time that they started doing it again. When someone visits this forum they associate the akhlaq of the individuals with their religion. Right now the forum has the potential to push people away from the religion. When shias visit the forum, they come to gain knowledge and to be inspired. They don't come to become disillusioned by aggressive and abusive people who are supposed to be religious people. It's time to sort things out. {3:104} And from among you there should be a party who invite to good and enjoin what is right and forbid the wrong, and these it is that shall be successful. I respect the person who started this thread and those who have supported him. They are speaking out when others are silent. May Allah reward them.5 points -
Well, no. It doesn't make a difference to anything. Alcohol is haram to drink, be around, socialise around etc. You can't be sitting at the same table as one of your 'friends' is while they are sipping away. You are degrading yourself as a Muslim just by doing so, because you know very well yourself that it's forbidden, but are attempting to reassure yourself with excuses. It's not about whether or not it's going to tempt you, it's about doing the right thing for yourself and your spiritual wellbeing. Inshaa'Allah you make the right choice :)4 points

Debates/arguments Becoming Insulting
Mystery-* and 3 others reacted to Shia_Debater for a topic
(bismillah) (salam) I have noticed on alot of the forums that people start off with asking a question, this leads to a debate which leads to arguing and then leads to insulting one another. Whether it is about WF or Shirazi or Marriage or Azadari or Syria or Iran or Taqleed etc.. There is nothing wrong with someone asking a question, and I don't see anything wrong with putting forward your views, but why is it that everywhere on this forum people put forward their views and then throw a couple insults at the other person whilst they are at it? What are you trying to achieve by insulting others? Even if in the end they accepted y'our views and found them to be correct and admit they made a mistake did you bring them to accept your views in a good way? I dont recall the prophet (pbuh) insulting someone who didn't accept Islam nauthobillah Just because someones views are different to yours it doesn't give you a right to insult them. (salam) Your eid sounds beautiful :) Prior to eid, my mother and I make sweets to serve the night before (maamoul, ka3k el eid, malban etc). Early in the morning, the house is decorated and the sweets are placed in lots of platters so everything is in place beforehand.. Our eid starts off with morning prayers at the mosque. If we can't get to the mosque, we pray as a family. Afterwards, we have a huge breakfast together. Then the visitors start pouring in, and we visit people also. Every visitor that comes has tea, ahwa (arab coffee) and sweets served to them. Little children are given money, and children within the immediate family are given presents as well. Towards the night, our family normally has a bbq together and we stay up the whole night through under the grape vine we have outside. That's probably my favourite part of eid. Sometimes on the second day, I spend time with close cousins and friends out for dinner and dessert or at other places like eid festivals. That's here in Australia, though. Eid in Lebanon is so much more beautiful :( I miss it so much. I remember when I was around eight there, the first thing we kids would do was run to the corner shop and buy the shop out completely with our eid money. We would buy candy and above all, firecrackers. The first night of eid, the whole village would be coloured with lights from children's firecrackers and families would be sitting on their porches and rooftops the whole night through, till the local mosque echoed the adhaan through the village. I wish I was there for eid. Anyways, Eid sa3eed to everyone in advance! :)3 points

5 Fingers And 14 Knuckles In Each Hand. A Sign?
Water Drinker and one other reacted to AspiringToBeShia for a topic
I was watching an Iranian serial on Prophet Yusuf (pbuh) when in one scene the prophet is asked by a previous prophet: "How many fingers and knuckles are in each hand?" The prophet replies: "5 fingers and 14 knuckles". Now I know that this obviously has Shia influence since if this was a sunni drama they would NEVER mention this. So I am wondering if this is a reference to the Panjatan Panch and the 14 Masoomeen?? Its quite interesting either way. Our hands which we use for dua also remind us of these wonderful Ahlul Bayt. Allah Humma Salay ala Muhammadin WA ale Muhammad.2 points -
(bismillah) (salam) Okay so bismillah, I thought about starting a topic where everyone could share how they celebrate Eid where they live. I am especially interested about hearing from people who live in such places where there are few muslims.. I wonder how their Eid goes.. ? :) For a start i can share a few experiences of my own.. In Pakistan its pretty usual, we start our day off with Eid prayers at the local mosque.. then everyone hugs everyone.. some people are not seen hugging anyone but look extremely agitated and are searching everywhere around the mosque for something.. that's because they've just lost their new chappals(slippers) that they bought for eid .. so in Pakistan there is nothing shocking if you see a guy walking down the street on eid's morning with new clothes on and everything but an old worn out chappal in his feet.. because no one wears their new slippers to the mosque. That's a risk that simply cannot be taken. :D Then we come back home.. Greet our families.. Eat Sawayyan(a special pakistani dessert).. Then our closest relatives come to our place and we go to theirs to spend some time with them and greet them Eid. :) Personally my family finds a new way every year to avoid giving Eidi(money given to kids at Eid as a reward for fasting etc etc).. They find a new reason every year to not "celebrate" eid.. Like this year my grandma died like 5 months ago and they have all declared they are not "celebrating" eid.. It's basically code for "we're all gonna go shopping and get new clothes and everything will be usual, but you kids aren't getting any eidi because we're all still sad inside afterall" :D i wonder if that happens with someone else.. Some people are busy taking pictures of themselves all day long so they can create a new album on facebook while others are occupied with more sensible things like visiting the graveyard and saying prayers for the departed ones.. Public transport i.e buses and rikshaw and taxi walas charge extra money as Eidi.. and a lot of other people for example, the Chowkidar(watchman) of your street that you haven't seen or heard from for the whole year shows up and asks for Eidi.. :D So how do YOU celebrate Eid?2 points

I'm in a park playing with my siblings and i go in that tunnel thing they have at the park. Instead of coming out of the tunnel seeing my sister and mum and everyone....i'm in another world; a world with FAT people. Not even a little bit fat but everyones humongous! Anyways, I'm surrounded by these fat people. They look at me like i'm some kinda candy or something. I'm really scared, i try closing my eyes to think its just a dream and that i'm back at the park playing but i just open my eyes to these fat people. They feed me and feeed me and feed me all kinds of things to make me as humongous as them so that i can't escape or something. I remember watching a film which has a similar story to what i was facing and then i tell them i wanna go to the toilet or something and run away through the cat flap and then this little rabit helps me get out of the house and then bammmmm, i wake up nearly in tears :|2 points

To Those Way Say That Aisha Was Around 20
guest 34193 and one other reacted to Haydar Husayn for a topic
Let me explain to you how it works with a certain brand of Shias. First they start with a certain conclusion, then they look at the texts. There are then several possibilities: 1) Shia sources back them up. Then everything is fine, and they will use these sources. If the Sunni sources claim something different, then even better since many Shias sadly think of their religion as 'anti-Sunni' Islam. 2) Shia sources contradict their claim. Then they check the Sunni sources. 2a)If the Sunnis back them up then they reject the Shia sources under the pretext of 'not worshipping rijal', while accepting the Sunni ones under the pretext of 'having an understanding of how history was recorded' (conveniently sidestepping the problem that we should be taking our religion exclusively from Shia sources, particularly when they actually speak on a matter).. 2b)If the Sunni sources also go against them, then it gets messier. That's when they start going towards odd or minority beliefs/interpretations, in either sect, in order to justify their pre-formed conclusion. It is also possible to use a purely 'logical' argument to reject all the sources. 3)Shia sources are silent. 3a)If the Sunni sources agree with them, then they take those. 3b)If the Sunni sources disagree, then they reject them since Sunnis are liars. We are then basically in case 4). 4)Both sources are silent. Then they can really go to town, and make up whatever they want, and if you ask for proof they will ask you to prove that it isn't true. We are in situation 2b here. The reasoning goes like this: "Aisha was bad, Sunnis make a big deal out of her young age, therefore she must be older (logic). A Sahih Shia hadith says she was 10, but I don't worship rijal so it's not important. Sahih Sunni hadiths say she was 9/10, but they are Sunnis (and most importantly they don't agree with me). Some modern apologetic Sunnis have made some convoluted indirect arguments that say she was 13/18/20/whatever, so I will take that." As you can see, pure intellectual dishonesty.2 points -

If It Is Haram To Be Jealous Of Another Wife?
BabyBeaverIsAKit and one other reacted to OneNoteSong for a topic
Alimo, but if you already have a wife then you haven't refrained from marriage due to finances. Just be responsible in your decisions. If you don't care about being responsible, then fine. When you have a 16-year-old high school son, get him married to a 14-year-old middle school girl, and encourage them to have lots of babies because He will provide. Maybe if they are lucky, the local homeless shelters will serve halal food.2 points -
WA wr wb, Let's, for the sake of discussion, say that you are allowed to be around 'friends' while they drink. Why would you want to? By doing this, you are sort of giving them your implied consent that it is okay and your support their choices, hence being their friend. I would rather choose others whom I'd consider friends. Likewise, I would hate to be around pot smokers. If the ability to reason is affected, you don't get the utmost potential out of them. We need to surround ourselves with sharp people in order to continuously ascend. Or would you rather sit with 'sheep'? No need to inhibit your own growth! You're setting up your own handicap. If you make it clear that you will only be with them when they are of sound reasoning, they may come to respect, cherish your time, and take you more seriously.2 points

Islamically it's her right, that's why the stipulation is allowed. She can just the same say "if he doesn't buy me a house within 2 years, i can divorce him", and that is also permitted. It doesn't mean that by not buying the house, the guy is comitting haram, it's a preference that she makes. She herself may believe that he isn't doing anything wrong Islamically by having another relationship. It's just her preference. If he can't deliver what's in the contract, then he should accept the divorce and find other women that don't have such preferences.1 point -
[MERGED] Taqleed To A Mujtahed?
baradar_jackson reacted to Aabiss_Shakari for a topic
As much i pondered about the issue, i became more certain about the fact that Usoolism is true face of Shia faith. People blame Usoolis of following some Mujtahid blindly but this is not blind following. No Mujtahid gets the qualification of issuing fatwa unless he is well recognized among the scholars as the most learned person. Even if a Mujtahid issues a Fatwa of one line on a issue, it has strong study of hadiths and fiqh. For common people it is a fatwa of one single line while in fact Mujtahid issues this fatwa after studying some times tens of hadiths and check them on the basis of Rijal etc. I am quite sorry to say that so called pseudo-akhbaris or akhbaris have given nothing to the Shia faith and rather made Shia faith a faith of rituals only. Maybe my akhbari brothers do not like it but it appears to me that Nusairism is descendant of akhbarism. Akhbarism has given nothing to Shia. How many good commentaries of holy Quran are written by Akhbaris? What akhbaris gave to Shia faith? Absolutely nothing. While on the other hand Usoolis have contributed in Jehad, Knowledge, wisdom, faith, promotion of Shia faith and everything. I am proud to be an Usooli Shia. Any branch of faith is tested on the basis of its fruits. Usoolism has given good fruit which akhbarism failed badly to do.1 point -

Waiting for HIM reacted to Ya Aba 3abdillah for a topic
Bro, this is another classic example of what happens when we laymen regurgitate ahadith without understanding the implications. There are two problems that have arisen here from what happened with the hadith being pasted. 1. People can be misguided in thinking that it's fine that guys can check out beautiful women. 2. We could have (unintentionally) declared a hadith that may be sahih as being non-sahih. The hadith uses the word 'zina', without specifying what kind of zina. What if we look at other ahadith, like this one http://www.rafed.net/books/hadith/jamea/jame018.html#407 Which basically says that the eyes can do zina. How do we know that the hadith wasn't speaking about the zina of the eyes?1 point -

I guess you are talking about me, although I don't know even a fraction of the hadiths on the subjects you mention. The reason for knowing about some of the hadiths on these topics is in order to know what Islam's real position is on them. Not everyone wants to take an apologetic approach to Islam, and pretend that some things aren't in the religion, when they clearly are (or to pretend Islam says something different than it really does). Obviously, these are not the only hadiths I am interested in, but the difference between someone like me and perhaps some like you is that you would probably welcome all those 'feel-good' hadiths on subjects such as charity, prayer, family relations, etc, but would rather the hadiths on the more 'controversial' subjects not be brought up. On the other hand, I welcome hadiths on all subjects, and prefer that people back up their views with islamic sources and not so much their personal opinion.1 point -
Salam Well I am basically from india not ever attend any eid outside So I will tell u my eid which I celebrate every time in india only. We don't sleep at the night (usually in ramzan) We directly go for a morning prayer and then come back to home have a bath dress up nicely then go to 1st prayer of eid let me tell you we have 3 different times for eid namaz over here so I first preferred the 1st namaz which is around 8.15 am then it ends till 9.00 And yeah unfortunately we also have the same thing about slippers As my brother adil mentioned in his post Over here also u will see many people dressed up nicely with the old slippers in their feet.then every1 will start greeting eachother hugging eachother u will see a huge crowd alhumdullilah in pathani and other casual wear its a beautiful scene Then we come back to home have breakfast greet eachother Then I go to the cemetry (inside eagerly waiting foe eedi) lol We move to cemetry meet our departed ones pray 4 them and wish them then we come back to our area and and start planning for the day that where we want to go today. After that we pray duhr and asar namaz in masjid then I go to my nani place as we have a get togheter at her place in every eid. We finished with dinner and then I again come down to my friends where rest of my family will go for cemetry And I go for somewhere for sheesha or to chill out somewhere then again I come back to home at night and then again I move to my nani place for the dinner we all have dinner and then we sat for sumtym and then I start going to greet every 1 and collecting eiddi. For what I m waiting finally I have done with that. Then me my mum and dad come back to home have words with eachother for sometimes then good night comes and we all fall down lol. That's what my eid is hope will have something better in this eid inshallah. Eid mubarak 2 everyone in advance Remember me in your supplications. Wassalam1 point

A woman can stipulate in the marriage contract that if the man takes another wife, she has the right of divorce. This is permitted in Shari'a faqat (no question about it). But she can demand that if he does get into an affair, she can leave him, and if she does, he has no argument against it.1 point -

I'm not sure which thread you are referring to, but in Islam a person can only be punished for fornication/adultery if it is witnessed by 4 just witnesses or if he repeatedly confesses of his own free will. Now, they might be using a lesser burden of proof in certain 'islamic' countries, but that doesn't make it part of Islam. Since your sin was private, you should keep it that way. Just repent sincerely to Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì. The punishments are only for those who are shameless enough to do these thing in front of 4 people, or that for some reason feel like confessing. Make no mistake however, the sin is extremely serious, which is reflected in the punishment for those that are proven to have committed the act.1 point -
Why Did The Prophet (saw) Have More Than 4 Wives

(salam) according to Islam history, our holy prophet (s.a) used to get marry for a few times. As we look in his holy life, it's illogical to say He got marry many time to enjoy this world and he was interested to young women ,etc because in his holy life he used to be far of much enjoyment and he always denounced this world... so the main reason was that each getting marry would be a great step for spreading Islam through different tribes. He got marry with Ayeshah, who our holy prophet himself predicted her bad future for her, who was the daughter of Abu Bakr! Getting marry with her, made the base of Islam stronger...1 point -

How Would You Feel If Your Wife Took Another Husba

The thinking comes from not automatically taking as absolute truth whatever values I was brought up to believe, and questioning them in light of islamic sources. Throughout my whole discussion with you and your anti-polygamy friends, I have not once felt I was in a discussion with Muslims. All your arguments could have been made by an atheist, and at not point did you make reference to Allah, the Prophet, the Qur'an or the hadiths, other than to respond to someone who did (and mostly you did not welcome the introduction of those sources into the discussion). And no, I do not run off to read something before every decision. Rather, I let what I have read inform my decisions, and am always ready to review them. But yes, on a specific issue that Islam deals with, I like to know what the religion has to say about it in order to make sure I don't actually go against it. That is your opinion, but it is not what Islam says. So the state won't interfere if a married man has an affair and has children with some other woman, but will if the man has a verbal contract with that woman? Right...1 point -
