  1. Salamun alaykum. It seems that many Imamis (i.e. Shia) are breaking their fast with a date, then praying Salat al-Maghrib and Salat al-Ishaa, then eating a full meal. This is not mustahhab. It is mustahhab to pray Salat, then break your fast. Abbas Qummi says in his Mafaateeh al-Jinaan: "First, to open one's fast and it is mustahhab to do so after the ishaa prayer, unless one is feeling weak, or when others are waiting for one to join". Sistani says: 1759. It is Mustahab that a person breaks his fast after offering Maghrib and Isha prayers. However, if he feels terribly inclined to eat, so much that he cannot concentrate on the prayers, or if someone is waiting for him, it is better that he should break his fast first and offer the prayers later. However, as far as possible, he should try to offer the prayers during the prime time (Fadheelat). It seems they based this on the following ahadeeth: al-Kafi, volume 4, page 101, hadeeth 3: Ali bin Ibraheem reported from his father from Ibn Abi Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabi who said: Once I asked Abu Abdillah (A) about breaking the fast - if it is before or after Salat? He (the Imam) said: If he (the imam of salat) is afraid of keeping them (?) from their dinner, first it is is breaking fast with them; otherwise, first is salat then it is breaking the fast. (Grading of chain: Hasan) at-Tahdheeb al-Ahkaam, volume 4, (book 51), p198, hadeeth 6: (Grading of chain: Saheeh I think) at-Tahdheeb al-Ahkaam, volume 4, (book 51), p199, hadeeth 11: (Grading of chain: Technically mursal, but likely to be saheeh i think) I do not have translations for the latter two hadeeths :( May Allah help us increase in the number of mustahhab actions we perform.

  8. No, they're running away from the Salafists. Would you go back into your town if there's a war going on in there? That's what wars do, they cause refugees. When Hezbollah was battling the Israelis in 06, nearly the whole region became empty, and all the refugees were pro-Hezbollah. What's your point? I guess all those people are Alawis too LOL Enough with your sectarianism. Riyadh Propaganda needs to be taken back to Riyadh and a thermo-nuclear warhead needs to turn that terrorist nest into a big glass crater along with all those Wahhabi scum using their Petro$$ to export their extremist terrorist ideology around the world. That's exactly my point, exactly! If Bashar and Ba'athists in Iraq were Pro-Washington/Tel-Aviv, you think any of this would happen? It'd only happen if they were going to be overthrown by one Pro-Washington/Tel-Aviv regime and replaced by another. Hamas isn't a 'Kafir' regime, yet they still gather up the Salafist terrorists and put them in jail.

    Your Ramadan Traditions?

Do you have any Ramadan traditions in your family? In our house we always make stuffed koussa and grape leaves the first day of Ramadan and we have potatoes, salad, and maggi soup every night or my husband turns into a cry baby(I get sick of potatoes and soup).

  10. How could there be 14 infallibles if there were only 5 covered by the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam with the Kisaa including himself? Sunni/Shia Valid references only please. Thanks.

  11. Good. Let us suppose we had only golden chain for the infallibility of Imamain (a.s) or their divinity then you know what your objection would have been? Then your stance would have been "The only evidence available with you is golden chain where Imamain (a.s) themselves claimed Imamat and their divinity and this can not be verified through some independent source" . Basically you have no point in your favour. It is good that both types of reports are available. One you referred is by Abdullah Bin Abbas (r.a) and on the other hand Imamain (a.s) themselves declared the Imamat and divine leadership of the subsequent Imam and so and so on. So the Imamat and its infallibility is proved not only through golden chain but also through an independent reporter.

  13. (salam) Abu Bakr and Umar were commanded by the Holy Prophet (pbuh) to go on a campaign, under the leadership of Usama. They did not participate. The Holy Prophet (pbuh) cursed those who did not participate the campaign. The Holy Prophet (pbuh) never told Abu Bakr to lead the Salah in his final day. The decision to send Abu Bakr to the mosque was made by Ayesha. When The Prophet (pbuh) came to know about this event, he was quite angry. He was taken to the mosque by Ibn Abbas and Ali(as). The Prophet (pbuh) prayed the Salah there. Abu Bakr had to step aside and give the position of the Imam to the Prophet. This is from the Sunni book. Please look it up. Also, you can look up another hadith where someone asked Ayesha if she remembered who were the two men who took the Prophet to the mosque when he was very sick in his final day. Ayesha named Ibn Abbas and the other "guy". This is where the hadith narrator said that Ayesha knew who the other man was but she did not like to speak about him.

  16. (bismillah) (wasalam) I believe rijaal and isnaad criticism is less important to our madhab, especially in fiqh, because of the tawattur of our narrations, the closeness of their recording to the Imams' عليهم السلام lifetimes, and the strong qaraa'in able to establish the sihat of practices - these are all things Sunni ahaadeeth do not have. Just open up a chapter in Wasaa'il on a Wajib/Fardh issue and you'll find several ahaadeeth from different narrators and companions of the Imams The narratives generally have the same meaning - barring taqiyyah. The correctness in matn of the narrations is much stronger given these ahaadeeth were written during the Imams' lives and the chains are much shorter. And because jurisprudence, rijaal, everything was be codified and organized while the Ma`sumeen عليهم السلام were around, we can use things such as ijma` of the Imams' companions رضوان الله عليهم to see what is authentic and what is not. Similarly to earliest of our Fuqahaa' رحمهم الله up to the beginning of the Greater Occultation. Qaraa'in has an important place in our madhhab. Sunni narrations on the other hand rely heavily on rijaal due to the great singularity of their fiqh narrations - which is why most of their ahkaam is derived from ra'i and qiyas - and many times on tafseer of ayaat (which there is much ikhtilaaf on...all of it). They started compiling narrations about 100 years or more after the wafaat of the Holy Prophet Their isnaads are much longer than ours cause they have to go farther back - so a larger gap to obscure meaning/error in transmission. They can't really rely on the practice of a community or anything cause there is no Ma`sum around (according to them) whose opinion they are trying to identify within the consensus. They have their own notion of ijma` that is logically and practically flawed as well - as well anachronistically applied. There is also that late determination of what exactly was and wasn't Sunnah in non-Shi'ism. Many times "Sunnah" was what the community, political leaders, etc did - not particular the ways of the Holy Prophet Let's not forget that without their blanket statement of flawless narration/`adalah of all the "Companions," they have no source of religion. Let's face it, if they had to historically try to reanalyze the actions and character of each companion individually, they would have nothing...lots and lots of majaheel. There, that is my two scents worth.

  17. The Syrian government may be cruel but it at least opposes the global status quo, at least it tries to keep a united Syria, gives relatively equal opportunities to all communities. The protesters to me seem naive, will toppling Assad stop inflation, or end unemployment? The protesters themselves are ruining their countries economy. Like Libya, toppling Assad will just start a civil war between the Alawites and Sunnis, start a cycle of sectarian bloodshed and pesecution, the Alawites had been oppressed by Sunnis for centuries, now for a few decades they have had a taste of power for the first time, dont think they'll let go of power without a real fight. Syria might even fragment (which i think would be better for it) Iran's support for the Baath government is understandable, Syria is useful for Iran. In this world everyone is a hypocrite about something or another. But at least Iran resists the global status quo. If they simply wanted power and ease, they could easily have cosyed upto the west and Israel anytime and the the Ayatollahs would have become the west's holy cows like Gulf Arab royalty and the Shah of Iran. OP you keep saying that people either support the Syrian government or the Syrian Muslims, are you making Takfeer of the Syrian government and the Alawites?

  19. Well the point is Robert fisk is someone who has an absolute disliking for the Syrian regime, yet he does not entertain the garbage that Hezbollah or Iran are in Syria killing syrians,I watched that interview over 6 weeks ago so iif I misquoted a few things then My mistake but what cracks me up is how you guys like to clutch at straws, yous are soooo desperate to proove Hezbollah bad, it's as if a Shia orgNisation kicking the barrts of the Zionist is a source of embarrassment to the Sunnis because yous outnumber us 8:1 yet you'd can't put together any sort of resistance to Israel. so according to Sunnis and Zionist. Hezbolah is in Syria killing "protesters" Hezbollah is in yemen helping rebellion Hezbollah is in Bahrain helping topple the king Hezbollah is in Libya fighting gaddafi forces ( gadafi claim) Hezbollah is in Libya helping gaddafi(rebel claim) it's amazing how Hezbollah can be in all these places at the same time and still maintain a presence in Lebanon. Isnt it ironic how Hezbollah have always stood up for the Palestinians and are now the only real supporters of Palestinian resistance organizations yet they are treated by Sunni political organizations right through the mid east as some sort of cancerous infection.

  21. all these uprisings, riots, or rallies can be, i believe, more accurately be explained within the context of the decline of liberal economic model. Before economic growth was the norm and the song of the politicians, now economic cuts have become the anger of the masses. Now that the free ride is almost over in Israel, due to the decine of the global economy, the mainland israelis are pitted against the settlement ones. Typical of democracy- when you cant take things from far off, you turn and try to take it away from your neighbor. No amount of wealth is enough to fulfill the desires and wishes of one democratic society, let alone a bunch of them. Watch it, its gonna get much worse with cuts and laying offs and inflations....

  24. The last two hadeeths have been kindly translated by brother Macisaac, may Allah reward him and bless him: Ibrahim from `Abd ar-Rahman b. Abi Najran from Hammad b. `Isa from Hariz from Zurara and Fudayl from Abu Ja`far عليه السلام In Ramadan you pray then you break your fast unless you are with a group who are waiting for the iftar. So if you are with them then do not disagree with them and break your fast then pray, otherwise then begin with the salat. I said: And why is that? He said: For two obligations have become present to you, the iftar and the salat, so begin with the best of them and the best of them is the salat. Then he said: That you pray while you are fasting and that, your salat, be written and so sealed by the fast is more beloved to me. It should be Ali bin Hasan and not Ali bin Ibrahim - from Abd ar-Rahman bin abi Najran from Hammad bin Isa from Hariz from Zurara and Fudayl from Abu Ja'far عليه السلام Ali bin Hasan here is bin Fadhal, and this Hadith is therefore Muwathaq due to him since he was from the Fathiyya until his return, Also one of the two chains of the Shaykh (at-Tusi) to Ali bin Hasan bin Fadhal is as follows: أخبرنا بكتبه و رواياته عدة من أصحابنا عن محمد بن علي بن الحسين عن محمد بن الحسن و عن أبيه عن سعد بن عبد الله، و الحميري عن أحمد بن محمد، و محمد بن الحسين عن الحسن بن علي بن فضال Have reported all of his books and narrations - a group of our companions (i.e Shaykh Mufid being in this group) from Muhammad bin Ali bin Husayn (Shaykh Saduq) from Muhammad bin Hasan (bin Ahmad - Ibn Walid) and from his father (Ali bin Husayn - Ibn Babawayh) from Sa'ad bin Abdallah (al-Qummiy) and al-Himyariy (Abdallah bin Ja'far) from Ahmad bin Muhammad (bin Isa - al-Ash'ariy) and Muhammad bin Husayn (bin abil Khattab) from (him) Hasan bin Ali bin Fadhal. so the chain is - at-Tusi>Mufid>as-Saduq>Ibn Walid and Ibn Babawayh>al-Qummiy and al-Himyariy>al-Ash'ary and Ibn abil Khattab>Ibn Fadhal>Ibn abi Najran>Hammad>Hariz>Zurara and Fudhayl>Imam Abu Ja'far. and all of its men are Thiqat.

  25. Thanks Yasoob, this is very interesting. Now I have some questions for you. I am in the habit of praying Isha in its fadheelat time which is approx 1 hour and 15 minutes after salatul Maghrib. How are we so sure that the Imam meant both Maghrib and Isha??? I know, it probably means maghrib and isha thereafter iftaar and not just after maghrib but I cant really see how it comes to the conclusion that both salatul Maghrib and ishaa be prayed. The following excerpt makes one inclined to think both Maghrib and ishaa "... That you pray while you are fasting and that, your salat, be written and so sealed by the fast is more beloved to me." This is what makes it strongly indicative that combining maghrib and isha in this instance and then iftar is better then praying Ishaa in its fadheelat time. However, one could reasonably argue that Imam (as) is only referring to Maghrib only??? Of course, shia are no stranger to combining salat so its obviously not an issue at all. So I guess thats my question: In Shahr Ramadhan, is it better to combine maghrib and isha while still fasting and then break the fast compared to praying maghrib, breaking the fast, and praying ishaa at its fadheelat time???

The protesters in Derr3a right from the start 5 months ago were anti shia, anti hezbollah, burning phots of the shia 3oulama and flags of hezbollah, and that was before anyone had a chance to even react to them. To everyone claiming Iran are hypocrites, why dont you click on the channels of most of these guys posting videos on Syria, you will see pro Israeli propaganda in their libaries along with anti shia propaganda and anti Iranian, that is what i call real hypocricy. crazysb235 They only hate the maqowama because its a shia resistance organisation, they want to see it defeated because most sunnis are loyal to the wahabi kingdom WHO ARE PUPPETS TO ZIONISM!! so they're sweatting on a regime change in Syria so a puppet state is installed that would team up with the Lebanese opposition that would eventualy destroy hezballah, but hezbollah would defeat them all!! Dont be fooled to think that Bashar is just hanging on, He is in complete control,he is not going anywhere and if anything gos wrong hezbollah and Iran will back him up, remember these lies are just like the socalled Green revolution in Iran, when youtube was used as a tool to flood the internet with false propaganda, LOL...

Permanent marriage fulfills the real issue i.e. The loneliness of a Shia sister and her danger of falling in sin. Western societies, and even the Asian cultures now, are inundated with sex, sex in tv, sex in radio, sex on Internet, sex on billboards, even the Disney movies are ending up in an intimate kiss and a happy ever after, it puts undue pressure on the minds of girls and boys, men anD women, teenager and middle ages, all. We'll have to open ourselves for liberally accepting Islamic solutions, be it mutah or better accepting for 2nd or 3rd wives or risk either a complete psycho society or a complete sinful society. Sisters who are single wives will have to shoulder a bigger responsibility here in opening their husbands up for Islamic solutions. I don't know if you know but my observation over the years is a crisis level of zina and sexual perversion among Muslims in USA. Asian societies are not immune either, it's just that things are way hidden there.

  31. Seriously, do we need to ask such questions? Answering it might result in kufr without you even realising it so it's best to avoid such discussions. We have many narrations telling us not to talk about God too much because He is far too great to discuss.

  32. Bro I don't quite get what you are saying? Ahlulbayt lead you to the treasure right.. Oh you're just basing his post on intercession?

  33. wrong again my friend, without ahlulbayt, you will not reach that treasure, you just said said without the prophet mohammad (saw) you can reach this treasure? SURELY NOT, you are forgetting that the prophet is syedalumbhiyah! research brother! (bismillah)

  34. Very true and that would be very embarrassing. You wouldn't go because you would abuse it? I didn't think you were like that! :P Joking aside, it's a fair point, but the people who abuse it should be reported to the organisers and get booted out. Maybe speed-dating isn't the answer, but we definitlely need something in the Shia community to help facilitate marriage.

  37. After reading through this long debate and everyone's opinions. I still believe that if I live each day thinking about my Imam and separation from him pains me, and I do everything keeping in view that he is aware of all that I do.. And weep every day because of my separation from him. I will not die before he communicates with me.. or shows me a sign. (Inshallah)

  38. I do not see anything wrong with the areezas! Who has any right to say how someone should communicate with the Imam ? I don't need a marja to tell me if I can write to my Imam or not. I think you can try to communicate and supplicate to the Imam whichever way pleases you, provided it is within the limits of sharia and there is no haram involved in it.

  39. Ignore Yazidis like the nasibis on that site and others like it. They've learnt there's NO way you can defeat the logic and truth inherent in following the way of the Ahlulbayt in an intellectual manner so they resort to disgusting lies and filth instead. This is a sunnah for them as Bukhari did exactly the same. Ba'atil people use this tact when all else fails. Do you ever see any Shi'ah of Ali claiming sunnis do xyz during Tarawih? Or that abc takes place during dhikr? We don't stoop that low because our teachers are the greatest creations of Allah The Magnificent. ALI

    Masturbation In Islam

Agree completely that masturbation is devastating both physically and spiritually. If it was impossible to overcome, then Allah9swt) would not have made it haram. Once you reject the prevailing culture's assumption that is it natural and acceptable, and then move to fully embrace the Islamic paradigm, you'll realize just how utterly pathetic masturbation is. Are we not strong enough to control our sexual urges? Are we really that weak and feeble? As brothers have pointed out, there's loads of things one can do to minimize the urges. I'd suggest going to the gym regularly, as i did in the other thread. It will help immensely. Don't listen to garbage music, stop watching c.rap on television and don't lustfully look at women. Do all of the above and your struggle becomes that much easier. We're in Ramadan, and there's no better time than the present to overcome this disgusting habit.

  41. Pardon me, but can I ask why? Why do you feel so strongly against being a co-wife, when it is sanctioned by our faith?

  43. (salam) I know someone who became an unfortunate victim to such a situation that you describe. It was startling to see that his partner turned out to be the complete antithesis of what he expected her to be. After going through the phases of shock, denial, anger etc, he finally accepted the reality that this world is full of hypocrites, himself included. We all are hypocrites at some level (there might be one or two rare exceptions). He used to dream of a pure marriage, where he would marry a noble, righteous partner and life would be so much easier and he could concentrate on more lofty goals like preparing for the return of our Imam (as) and preparing well for the Hereafter with her help.. Life has now become quite a struggle to deal with basic issues that he had never imagined would occur. He took this as a test from the Almighty. He looked deep within his heart and found that he is not perfect, he has many flaws himself and therefore maybe he should not come down too hard upon his life partner. Getting out of this isn't feasible because her entire family is more than good to him and he cannot bear to see tears in their eyes. He consoled himself with the example of the spouse of our 2nd Imam who poisoned him in the end and even though he knew what would happen & still he was kind to her. So sister, I advise you to try your best to chose a good partner but you need to understand that there is a hypocrite in all of us and most people put on a show to some extent. There is no guarantee that your partner won't change for the worse after marriage. If things do turn out negatively, I advise you to take this as your jehad (struggle). And reform your own self to such an extent that your husband may inshallah change his thoughts n ways. This world is a temporary place and perfection is not of this world--> saying of Imam Ali (as) (wasalam) In addition to the above post, I suggest you to watch this video every day. It reminds us to have a clear relationship with the Almighty. If we really are so, inshallah Allah the most merciful will bestow more mercy upon us and make our loved ones to have a more clear relationship with us. Inshallah.

Oh! me! me! I am also a member of the teddy bear crew  but according to Abu Huraryah "Salah/praying is better with Ali (as) while eating is better with Muawiyah (LA)". So it's possible to be with your enemy for personal interest and switch back and forth,

  47. More like a cultural belief! Belonging to a Sayed family myself, I can tell you there is no such religious ruling (our family has plenty of discussions/arguments regarding this!). There is already a whole topic running on this I think. A sayyeda CAN marry a non sayed!! :squeez: and its not different, and not really any fairer to be rejected for this reason. I know I'm going to have issues with my dad when he finds out I'm considering a non-sayed! But I find this reason ridiculous, almost as bad as the tattoo excuse! The only thing that use to hold me back was 'oh no my kids won't be sayed'. But I figured its good enough that they become practising muslims :)
