  1. The same way women act outside of there house where all non mahram can see them is the same way they should act online because there is no difference, even if people put profiles on private you never know if something may happen and that image may be shown. Im not going to say its haram incase its not but in my opinion its better for them not to. (likewise with men showing their six pacs or w/e on the internet)

    Unity

(bismillah) (salam) Insha'Allah you are all well & Shahur Ramadhan is beneficial for us all. TaqabAllah.. Right so basically.. I posted this in general discussions because I don't want the old Sunni/Shi'a disputes, I just want opinions that is all. It was highlited to me in the Chatroom earlier, we were talking about unity etc and I thought it would be beneficial if it was put into a topic. So that new Muslims or ones that struggle with the whole 'unity' concept, can discuss their views here, as well as everyone else putting their take on it. I REPEAT, PLEASE NO FIGHTING (esp in this month) In my opinion, unity is not something that can be achieved through understanding alone, unity is something which means total peace and harmony between different faiths as well as a good nature towards one another. Now can Sunni & Shi'a achieve this, That's the real question right? So after 1400 years, give or take, there has been no unity. So what makes all of you that say unity can exist? What's new? I mean we all want unity, that's not the problem.. It is what is and can be realistic, let us not live in lala-land. Let us be real. Now with realism in focus  History shows us many things, and if any of you say that history isn't needed are being very closed minded. If history wasn't important what about kerbala? Is that not important enough to get to the truth of the occurance? What about the Holy Qu'ran, isn't that too be read in context with history? So once we know the fact and truths surrounding truths we can identify wrong doers. Now the difference between us, is that we, Shi'a believe some 'people' are enemies of Ahlulbayt (as), that's our truth. But Sunni's, you praise those certain 'people' and that is your truth. Now with that at hand.. How can we have total conviction in unity? You tell me this. If someone hurt my sister, mother, wife, brother etc.. I will not 'like' that person yes? Now if someone comes up to me and praises that person as a good person, we wont exactly be on good terms.. So we can't exactly be united.. BUT We can be united.. Under TOLERANCE If we could just be patient to each other.. Live side by side in peace, try to understand each others faith so that we may become tolerant to one anothers views. Now that isn't unity, that is tolerance. Like our Prophet (pbuh) showed. Now if we could just do that... it would be bearable. Unity between sunni & shi'a is tolerance, that is it. (wasalam)

  13. (salam) Viewing all the threads and listening to various venerable SC members' views I can come up with the only practical solution and humbly present it before you. We need to register a Shia Welfare / Social Works organization. If you are not familiar with such a thing then I invite you to learn more. When you register a tanzeem (I know the word is notorious now) of this kind you become a officially recognized body in the eyes of the system, with certain rights and perks offered according to law. As you move up and do more work you start getting perks. This is the first logical step on a long path to establish a Shia / Honest / Patriotic party that can later gain popularity and participate in elections. The reason I don't want to label it an openly "Shia" organization is that there are a lot of people and bodies out there that are not rotten and they are not all essentially Shia. We need to gather them all and give them a platform. A well organized and managed group can alleviate itself to appear in or even change history. Take the Knights Templar as an example. In their early stage, they introduced a banking system, provided security, service to the society and they were an independent body, free from the influences of monarchs and the Christian Pope. They didn't start as a military order. They had vast untapped potential and attracted a lot of envy and instilled insecurity in the minds of monarchs and ruling figures which resulted in their downfall and disbandment. Today is no different especially in Pakistan. We still have feudal lords, monarchs, organized crime, big shot crooks, down trodden weak and poor who need help, a never ending social and welfare work. We have the added ease of corporations and corporate funding today. There are Shia and other funding / donating people. Every Muslim needs to give charity, in order to be a Muslim. Currently, most of this charity is going to works that God wouldn't approve of. Wolves in the skin of sheep or even without are gathering, even forcibly, this charity that was supposed to be for God. The main idea behind all this is organization and to give our people and our youth a platform. A cause that is bigger and lasting than personal gain. An answer to questions like "Who to vote for?" "Who to give charity?" "How to do social work?" "How to make our voices heard?" "How to bring change?". The Sunni and even the non-practicing people, everyone, the entire nation is in the grip of tyranny and a great strain due to being powerless and continuously oppressed and herded to oblivion. This is why I prefer as little a hint of religious or sectarian shade as possible. This is just an idea. Sure, I'm still of the opinion and I say that I should let this dark age pass and end itself, like all the dark times in human history. In all honesty it is simply because I am alone and individuals can't achieve such things, only groups of like minded people can. I'm sure all other practical and rational people feel this way or would agree. So. What do you think?

  16. I honestly thought the OP was a Sunni. the Shi'ah prefer to prostrate on the earth of Karbala because of the importance given to it by the Prophet (s) and the Imams from his Family (Ahl al-Bayt). After the martyrdom of Imam Husayn عليه السلام, his son Imam Zayn al-'Abidin (a) picked some up, declared it to be sacred dust, and kept it in a bag. The Imams (a) used to perform prostrations on it and make a tasbih out of it, and recited Allah's praises on it. [ibn Shahrashub, al-Manaqib, vol. 2, p. 251] The Imams a.s also encouraged the Shi'ah to perform prostrations on them, with the understanding that it was not compulsory, but with a view to achieving greater recompense. The Imams (a) insisted that prostration before Allah must be on clean earth only and that it was preferable if it was performed on that earth of Karbala. [al-Tusi, Misbah al-Mutahajjad, p. 511] [al-Saduq, Man la yahduruhu'l faqih, vol. 1, p. 174] Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq said: “Prostration is not permitted except on the earth and whatever grows from it except on those things that are eaten or on cotton.” When he (Imam Ja’far as Sadiq a.s) was asked whether having one’s turban touch the earth instead of the forehead was acceptable, he replied that this was not sufficeint unless the forehead actually touched the earth. Money

That's right to an extent but it risks taking on an overly materialistic view on life and indeed one that is sub-optimal. To put it in very simple terms, you can either see money as the route to better health (in terms of being able to buy the level of care that you need). Alternatively you may have an enlightened government that dissuades/discourages/prohibits unhealthy behaviour and then provides free at point of delivery healthcare to those who need it. The same goes for education. To run with your own example that £1.67 loaf of bread may seem more attractive, but the £0.28 may actually be better for your health. Remember that, for example, for many centuries e.g. in the west white bread was seen as being the expensive option (for various social and other reasons), but it was actually the cheaper brown bread that was better for you. The same applies to all sorts of other activities - where the cheaper, less materialistic option is actually the one that is better for you, but it is individuals' perceptions, social pressures and other factors that lead people to choose the more financially expensive option. This is what I was exploring in my Paris without Disneyland thread. I tried to show that there were lots of relatively cheap, productive, and fun options that people can choose to consume rather than the one which social pressures, lack of imagination and marketing leads them to choose. So with enlightened government, the right friends and family and the right perception on your own part you can actually have a happier existence with less money. There's also the issue of time, for most of us more money comes at the expense of having less time to ourselves. I see so many of my peers either running after even more money (than the already adequate amounts that they have) or desperately trying to keep hold of what they have. Money can, surprisingly, become a prison.

It isnt bad to have a lot of money however only if you have acquired that money through halal means and also it is better to spend that money in the cause of Allah (swt) We are slaves of Allah (swt) and all our belongings belong to him so what way better to spend it on than spending it in his cause.

    @ Baradar_jackson

If it's not him, then Sunnis would find something/someone else to pick on. As long as he brings proof for his claims then it's fine. If we made Shias and Sunnis seem the same then they wouldn't bother searching for the truth. We can co exist with Sunnis, not compromise our beliefs. That's as far as 'unity' goes with them... EDIT: Lets achieve Shia-Shia unity before anything else!

(wasalam) Bro Mushu has explained it correctly. There's apparantely a "hadith" where it says Abu Bakr is the leader of the elders of jannah as well. This does not make sense because everyone in jannah will be youths and there will be no elders for Abu Bakr to lead

  49. (wasalam) -He created us due to his Mercy. It's for our benefit and not His. -One may respond by saying what if I didn't want to be created? You could reply by saying that God isn't going to create you and THEN ask you permission, that would be illogical. -He created us to test us so that we may benefit from His rewards in the afterlife (or vice versa - you can feel His wrath if you are evil). -He created us simply to obey Him.
