I need some clarification on a particular matter:

I've heard many sunni scholars say that it's best to pray for Afiyah (well being) instead of sabr (patience) if one is not going through a trial or calamity and that if one is already going through a trial or calamity then only then is it permissible to pray for patience. But what's our take on this as Shia?

	Salaam everybody:

Here's an opportunity to increase blessings throughout this community and throughout the whole world. I remember seeing old threads from years past about salawat pledges, but this thread will be slightly different. The only goal of this thread is to post the salawat as often as we can, and nothing more:

	اللّهُمّ صَلّ عَلَى مُحَمّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمّدٍ

Allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

O Allah: (please do) bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad

	Rules of this thread:

	1. All members are encouraged to post the salawat as often as they like, English or Arabic (but only once per post please)

	2. Like as many posts as possible (reciting it yourself out loud while you like the post)

	3. No other discussions or statements please, this is purely for salawat only

Let's see how long this chain will go, and how much blessing we can all accumulate from posting and liking. More information on the salawat:

	http://www.duas.org/salwaat.htm

	I'll get started:

Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad

I have often heard the argument that without proper faith in God one cannot discern the truth about anything. For example, postmodernist sexual degeneracy is often blamed on a lack of faith in Divine revelation. I have pondered this notion for some time and, while seeing some truth in it, find it problematic. It posits that reason in and of itself is incapable of discerning, much less interpreting, the laws of nature (i.e., natural law), which are also God’s, being created. If this were the case, then people would not even be able to understand human physiology on its own terms, and would end up promoting things like sodomy, bestiality, and other unnatural (deviant), unhealthy sexual practices. But is this really the case?

One can easily observe the workings of the natural world—the behaviour of organisms, bodily functions, and the individual components of ecosystems—and thereby conclude that species-specific pairings are needed principally, or at the very least primarily, for procreation. Successful reproduction is evolutionarily advantageous and therefore likely to be much healthier than any alternative, i.e., sterility. One does not need to defer to revelation to conclude, based on empiricism, that biology is an objective factor and that sex is meant to ensure the survivability of an organism. This would rule out the whole notion that biological sex is a construct (“gender”), that same-sex “intercourse” is appropriate, etc.

One also has the tools to confirm that sexual organs indeed aim to generate viable offspring. One can observe embryos, discern the relationship between sperm and egg, and so on. All this is testable. By contrast, one cannot prove that a particular claim to Divine revelation, and hence a specific form of ritual observance, is correct, given that a) miracles typically cannot be tested and b) many creeds lay claim to exclusive truth on a similar, untestable basis. (Of course, neither can the existence of God be proven, but this does not necessarily disprove a particular faith or the existence of God.) Nor can one defer to “science” to justify the whole LGBTQ+I nonsense, which has more in common with religion, or religious justification, than empiricism.

My point is not that religion or belief in God should be disparaged per se, but that one does not necessarily need religious faith (i.e., in Divine revelation) to come to a conclusion about reality that may be in tune with a Designer’s intention. A counterargument is that a purely material basis leads to a belief in evolution, and that this presupposes human imperfection, thereby leading to attempts by man to alter himself, often surgically, for some subjective “higher“ end, as in trans-humanism. But a belief in evolution, coupled with an understanding of world-systems, can also be used to oppose artificial interference in a complex system such as the human body’s, given the incompleteness and imperfection of science. This would be both prudent and scientific.

After all, if complex systems developed over time, one should not go about willy-nilly altering its most fundamental processes, for even a slight change can affect the whole natural world, or civilisation itself. And, as has been mentioned before, belief in evolution does not presuppose atheism. (Nevertheless, I am rather convinced that such an intricate universe could not have randomly developed on its own, without external guidance and/or initiation. This is why I believe in a Higher Power or Creative Intelligence, that is, God.) So, as noted before, one does not need Divine revelation as a referential basis to come to viable conclusions about the world as it is. One does not necessarily lead to the other. LGBTQ+I can be opposed on science and reason alone.

	Thoughts?

Very nice to read at the individual time of Asr around 4:35 in Ohio 447 in Michigan and 415 in New York

To calculate the time, find solar noon in sunset find the length between them divided in half add it to solar noon. In other words it’s halfway between solar moon, and sunset.

	Ziarat Imam Ali (عليه السلام)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
May Allah have mercy upon you, O Abu’l-hasan.
You were the first of all in accepting Islam and the most sincere of all in faith,
And you were the firmest in conviction and the most Allah-fearing,
And you were the most steadfast (against ordeals for the sake of Islam) and the most watchful for Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household,
And you were the most careful for his companions and you were endowed with the most favorable merits,
And you were the foremost of everyone else in everything, and the owner of the most elevated rank,
And you were the closest of them to Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household,
And you were the most similar to him in guidance, morals, manners, and deeds,
And you were the owner of the most honorable position, and the most respected (by Almighty Allah and His Messenger).
May Allah reward you on behalf of Islam, the His Messenger, and the Muslims with the best rewarding.
You became stronger when his companions became weak,
And you advanced when they surrendered,
And you stood up (to face difficulties) when they became showed weak-heartedness,
And you abode by the course of Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household—as they were his companions,
And you were truly his vicegerent.
No one could ever compete with you or vie with you in this position
In spite of the existence of hypocrites and the despise of the unbelievers,
And the malice of the enviers and the disgrace of the wicked ones.
You thus managed the matters when they failed to do so
And you spoke (the truth) when they stammered,
And you carried on with the light of Allah when they stopped.
As they followed you, they were guided (to the true path),
You voice was the lowest (out of politeness) and was the highest in supplication,
And you were the least in speaking and the you were the most eloquent of them,
And you were the most apposite in opinions and the most courageous,
And you were the firmest in conviction, the best of them in deeds, and the most learned in questions.
By Allah (I swear), you were the true leader of the religion first and last:
You were thus the first (of the enduring ones) when the other people departed, and you were the last (in steadfastness) when they failed.
For the believers, you were merciful father, as they were your dependants;
So, you carried the burdens that they were too weak to carry,
And you preserved that which they forfeited, and you conserved that which they neglected,
And you prepared yourself for facing those who allied (against Islam) and you advanced when they were dismayed,
And you resisted when they hurried (in absconding) and you achieved the goals for which they fought,
And they tasted at your hands that which they had not expected.
You were thus incessant and relentless torment on the unbelievers
And you were support and shelter for the believers.
Thus, I swear by Allah that you won its bliss and gained its reward,
And you attained its merits and prevailed on its worth.
Your argument was never weak and your heart never deviated,
And your sagacity was never feeble, and your determination never cowered, and you never betrayed.
You were as firm as mountain, as storms could never displace you,
And you were as exactly as what was said about you: People felt secure under your government and in what was entrusted with you.
You were also as exactly as what was said about you: modest in your body and strong in carrying out the orders of Allah,
Humble in yourself and enjoying a great standing with Allah,
Great in the earth and lofty in the view of the believers.
None could ever find fault with you, and none could ever speak evil of you,
And you never desired for anyone, And you were never lenient (unfairly) to anyone.
The weak, humble one was strong and mighty in your view until you give him back his right,
And the strong, mighty one was weak in your view until you take the others’ rights from him.
The near and the remote were equal in your view.
You habit was to be right, honest, and kind,
And your words were ruling and determination,
And your custom was forbearance and fortitude,
And your view was knowledge and firmness in whatever you did.
Through you, the right path was taken and the difficult was made easy,
Fires were also extinguished by you and the religion became even at your hands, and Islam and the believers because mighty because of you,
You thus advanced in great strides and stopped and curbed the wrongdoings of those who came after you.
You are thus too lofty to be mourned and the calamity (of losing you) was so astounding for the inhabitants of the heavens,
And this calamity undermined all people.
Surely, we are Allah's and to Him we shall surely return.
We succumb to Allah’s acts and to His matters do we submit.
By Allah I swear, the calamity of losing you is the ever most catastrophic for the Muslims.
You were haven, shelter, and unshakable fortress of the believers.
And you were, at the same time, rude and furious on the unbelievers.
May Allah join you to His Prophet and may He never deprive us of the reward of our grief for you, and may He never mislead us after you.

Most of these Social Media platforms, like Twitter or Facebook, their nature mostly encourage and favor to evil content and behaviour. Most of their content is based on snap judgements of people that procude conjecture that is mostly wrong and defective. It leads to information that is exatly in nature opposite of what Islam encourage.

The questions is this, why some Scholars (and some themselves have an account there) still allow to make account and posts in these platforms in the positive way (spreading Islam etc), when the platform itself naturally and purposly tend to be an malign?

I have a question regarding ghusl.

When doing ghusl e haiz, you have to first remove all the natural oil that the body has or grease off your body, right?

I've been having a lot of doubts and waswasa doing ghusl e haiz and I used to end up bathing for almost 3 hours.

I apply soap and rub it on my entire body with a loofah. I do this entire process twice.

After doing this twice, if I again felt like some part is still a bit greasy, I used to apply soap again (especially in the outer area of my ear, which is the greasest area).

Alhumdulillah, I'm much better now. I apply soap only twice, and if I feel anything after that, I leave it to Allah and stand for ghusl.

But I still have a question,

	1. How many times are we supposed to apply soap according to islam and applying soap twice is required or not?

	2. If the oil or grease is natural on the body, then why is it said to remove it off before performing ghusl?

	3. Also, for ghusl e janabah, do we have to remove the grease?

	I follow Ayatollah Sistani.

	Assalamu aleikum,

Unfortunately I have committed a great sin and broke my fast intentionally. I am aware what great sin I have committed and need to ask Allah for forgiveness. Therefore I also have to do a form of kaffarah and I wanted to ask if I chose to feed 60 people as Imam Khamenai (q.) says, can I pay the equivalent amount of money to someone who does everything or do I have to actively to the grocery shopping, cooking, etc. Please help me!

	Assalamu Alaikum,

I am very worried about my CBSE exams. My Physics and Chemistry marks were low, and I am scared that I might get a compartment. I also didn’t study properly because of problems at home and other reasons. I am very worried about my respect/izzat.

I request guidance on a short Shia wazifa, dua, or nazar that I can do daily to seek Allah’s help to pass my exams and protect my izzat, even if I feel I made mistakes in the past.

	Please guide me. JazakAllah.

These people usually grow up to never miss a prayer and avoid haram. The questions lies herein, Does Islam as a religon consider the heart of the follower, his/ her intention and their motive? I know this may be abit philosophical, but do these people follow islam because it is a routine, and a CULTURAL act, rather than religious. I have seen that Islam has become more or less a culturual practise in arab countries rather than religious.

I myself, live in a western country and have fell to many desires because of the atmosphere iam living in, though, every mistake i have made is a lesson for myself. Because of the lack of 'atmosphere' and cultural norms with religion interwoven in the country i reside in, i have taken it as a initiative to convince myself that islam the true religion. Certainly, the youth must question everything, including Allah, so that their iman can be strengthened. Growing up, intrinsically many curiosities were bestowed within me, for example Where did Allah come from, Who created him, How does he look like. From experience, in arab countries, the reaction to a innocent curiosity would be a reluctancy to answer, and resultingly the child would always have a missing step in his iman.

The reason why iam raising this, is because i have a very big concern for muslims who are following islam on the basis that it is the norm and it will grant us cultural acceptance. Questioning Islam in all its dimensions along the world we live in will result in a much more solid and strengthened iman.

Ive always wondered what the fate would be to a 50 year old man, who because of a reluctancy from his parents to answer him, he dies without questioning certain aspects in religion, which we all at some time in our life dwell upon. Naturally, as a result, his iman would not be pure, it would be blind faith.

My question is, Does it matter in islam if the faith were pure from the hearts, and if someone was following islam on a consistent basis but without a solid pure iman, though his intention is to be culturally accepted and be amongst the 'norm', would his acts of religion be accepted ?

Ramadan during Time change - what to do?

The Ramadan 2026 moon sighting debate is already creating discussions worldwide. Some argue we should rely on astronomical calculations for consistency and planning, while others insist on local moon sightings to follow the traditional practice and prophetic guidance.

What do you think — should the global Muslim community unify on one method, or respect local sightings even if it means different countries start fasting on different days?

	Hello everyone,

I want to clarify a detailed Shia fiqh question regarding khums and stocks I received from my employer. I hope someone knowledgeable can help. Here is my situation:

1. Stock allocation: Over the past few years, my employer granted me stocks as part of compensation. These stocks vested over time, meaning they became legally mine gradually, but I did not sell them immediately, so I did not convert them to cash.

2. Vesting and khums: As far as I understand, in Shia fiqh, khums only applies when you gain access to the wealth in a usable form, such as cash or assets you can dispose of. Just having the stocks vest does not trigger khums until I sell or otherwise realize them.

3. Stock sale: This year, I sold some of the stocks. After the sale, the government withheld around $5,000 in taxes (capital gains tax). This is a mandatory legal expense. From my understanding, khums is calculated on net gains, meaning after any legally required taxes are deducted.

4. Using proceeds: I used the remaining money from the stock sale to buy a personal residence in February. After this, I no longer have cash in hand from this sale.

5. Khums due date: My khums year ends in May. By that date, I do not have any cash remaining, since all of it was used for the house. I also spent my salary and other earnings throughout the year on essential living expenses.

My questions:
- In this situation, does khums apply at all, since I have no remaining surplus funds at the end of the khums year?
- Is the calculation strictly on what remains at the khums date, meaning only on leftover cash or assets?
- If I did not have enough liquid cash, can khums be considered a debt to be paid later when I have money again?
- For future stock sales, will I calculate khums again on net proceeds after taxes and necessary expenses, separate from this past transaction?

I want to emphasize that the stocks were granted to me over several years, but I did not sell them immediately. Just having the stocks in my account does not trigger khums until I convert them to cash or a usable asset.

I would greatly appreciate if someone knowledgeable could clarify how Shia khums rules apply in this exact situation.

Thank you so much for your help!

	Salam

I hate to be the cranky old clergymen, but I thought this was just people going to these Islamic centers in eating some food one night if you think this seems to be going on three or four days during the last 10 days a lot of places

This is really taking away from the purpose of this month and a lot of of these gatherings however, well intention seemed to heavily promote knowing we are unknowingly or involve a lot of sins and horrible behavior

The days are for fasting and reciting the Quran the nights are for supplication visitation along prayers, Koranic reputation and speech speeches

I feel like that the youth can’t stand to be bored and want to make everything about fun and gathering and entertaining and that this was maybe to try to have like I hate to say this, but like a club atmosphere that they think is like halal way

I would never allow my child to set 10 such things and I would probably divorce. Any woman who thought that this was OK.

Whatever everyone’s else’s thoughts, I haven’t seen any of the senior juris. Discussed this in great detail.

“Alif Lam Mim. This Book, there is no doubt in it, is a guide to those who are pious. Those who believe in the unseen and establish prayer and spend in the way of their Lord out of what We have given them.”

Imam Jafar Sadiq (عليه السلام) narrates regarding this verses, “Those who are pious” are the Shiah of Ali (عليه السلام). The unseen is the Decisive Hujjah who will be in occultation (ghaybat). Proof of this is in the saying of Allah, “And they say, “Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord? Say: “Verily, the unseen is only for Allah, therefore wait; verily, I am with you, among those who wait” (Chapter 10, verse 20) (Kamaluddin, volume 2 page 340)

Dawud bin Katheer al Reqqi narrates that Imam Jafar Sadiq (عليه السلام) said regarding these verses, “Those who believe in the unseen” are those who believe and testify that the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (عليه السلام) is haq (truth).” (Kamaluddin volume 2 page 340)

Holy Prophet (sawa) said, “Blessed are those who are patient during the time of the Twelfth Imam (as)’s Ghaybah (occultation). Blessed are those who stay steady in their love for the Imam (عليه السلام). They are those whom Allah describes in His Book as “Those who believe in the unseen”. (Kifayat al Athar page 60)

Imam Jafar Sadiq (عليه السلام) narrates from his father regarding this saying of Allah, Imam Mohammed Baqir (عليه السلام) said, “Good works” is in reference to the Wilayat of Ameerul Momineen (عليه السلام). “Wherever you are, Allah will bring you all together” is in reference to the companions of Imam Mahdi (عليه السلام) who number slightly more than 310 men. I swear by Allah, they are the “reckoned time” (Chapter 11 verse 8) who will unite within one hour just as the clouds gather in the sky.

Mufazzal narrates from Imam Jafar Sadiq (عليه السلام) regarding this verse of Allah, Imam (عليه السلام) said, When Allah gives permission for the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (عليه السلام), He will call upon Allah with His Hebrew name. Suddenly His 313 companions will be gathered around Him the way clouds gather together in the sky. These 313 companions are the standard bearers. Some of them will disappear from their beds at night and find themselves in Mecca while others will travel on clouds during the day. Their names, titles, and lineage is already written.

I (Mufaizal) asked, “May I sacrifice my life for You. Who are stronger in faith?”

Imam (عليه السلام) replied, “Those who travel on clouds during the day. They are the missing ones and the following verse is in reference of them, “Wherever you are, Allah will bring you all together” (Al Ghaybah by Nomani page 168)

O Jabir! They are those this verse “Wherever you are, Allah will bring you together” was revealed. They will pay allegiance to Him (عليه السلام) between Rukn and Maqaam. He (Imam Mahdi (as)) will have the covenant of Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) with him, the covenant that is inherited from one Imam (عليه السلام) to the next.” (Al Ghaybah by Nomani page 150)

Abu Baseer narrates from Imam Jafar Sadiq (عليه السلام) regarding this verse of Quran, Imam (عليه السلام) said, “The year before Imam Mahdi (عليه السلام) reappears the following will occur; people will experience hunger; people will live in extreme fear of being killed; and people will suffer loss of wealth, life and livelihood. This saying of Allah clearly explains this.” (Al Ghaybah by Nomani page 132)

Abu Hamza Thumali narrates, “I asked Imam Mohammed Baqir (عليه السلام) regarding this verse of Allah, “We shall surely try you with something of fear and hunger”. Imam (عليه السلام) said, “There will be a general hunger and there will be a specific hunger. The general hunger will take place in Shaam, and the specific hunger will be in Kufa. The hunger in Kufa will be only for the enemies of the Family of Holy Prophet (sawa) and Allah will destroy them with starvation. As for fear, it will be only general. It will be in Shaam where the people will fear the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (عليه السلام). ” (Tafseer Ayyashi volume 1 page 67)

“So when Talut departed with the forces, he said: Surely Allah will try you with a river; whoever then drinks from it, he is not of me, and whoever does not taste of it, he is surely of me, except he who takes with his hand as much of it as fills the hand; but with the exception of a few of them they drank from it. So when he had crossed it, he and those who believed with him, they said: We have today no power against Jalut and his forces. Those who were sure that they would meet their Lord said: How often has a small party vanquished a numerous host by Allah’s permission, and Allah is with the patient”

Abu Baseer narrates Imam Jafar Sadiq (عليه السلام) said, “The companions of Talut were tested by a river and the companions of Imam Mahdi (عليه السلام) will be tested similarly.” (Al Ghaybah by Nomani page 316)
