To the respected believers in North America,
Peace be upon you.
The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Saturday, June 12th, 2021 will be the first day of the month of Dhu al-Qidah, 1442 A.H. for the entire region of North America.
This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Thursday, June 10th, 2021 in any region of North America. Thus, Friday, June 11th, 2021 will be the last day of the month of Shawwal.
On behalf of the Crescent Committee,
Sayyid M. Rizvi, General-Secretary

Juneteenth (a portmanteau of "June" and "nineteenth"), also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Emancipation Day or Manumission Day, is an American holiday celebrated on June 19. The Emancipation Proclamation — which had been issued on January 1, 1863 — was read to enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas by Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865. Among his remarks:
"The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection therefore existing between them becomes that between employer and free laborer."

Dhul-Qidah 11 (Zilqad 11) is the Birthday of  Imam Ali Ibn Musa Al-Reza AS. The Eighth Imam, ‘Ali Ibn Musa, Al-Ridha’ (عليه السلام)
