(salam)

Someone recently told me that people can invoke Jinns and get them to do things? In fact, he said it was very common in India and the Gulf.

Is this possible? Any hadiths to verify this?

This represents one of 2 things. It may represent exorcism, which is good if sincere, and aims to remove the possessing jinn from the sufferer whose body has been taken over. A lot of people who are thought of as possessed may suffer from psychiatric diseases. Alternatively, some patients with psychiatric problems may be possessed by jinns, though probably only few and most are not possessed. It is imperative to see a physician first before thinking that jinn possession is the diagnosis. Otherwise contact with jinn probably represents black magic, except for chance meetings, and is a very serious and grave sin. It is possible to 'invoke' jinn in this way also, but this form is absolutely forbidden. It is practiced by either ignorant and/or wicked people. Sadly it is common in the Indian subcontinent.

To protect yourself from such effects one should recite Surah Al-Nass and Surah Al-Jinn.

Warning: exorcism can be a dangerous task, at least because the jinn sometimes trying to take revenge on the exorcist and not to mention the effect on the possessed person. You are advised to consult with the ulema.

What the heck this topic doing in Science? Shouldn’t this be paranormal or X-files :) We need a forum for that sort of thing

Well...they have good Muslim Jinn and then they have bad kafir Jinn. When a person use bad Jinn to cause some problem on a person, sometimes the Sheikh use some holy word to bring the Jinn out from human body but sometimes it is very difficult if the Jinn who posses they body is very powerful. So they enlist the help of a good Jinn to bring out his Jinn buddy. That is what I’m told. Not sure if it is true or not.
