List the problems down, break them down, get to the root cause of each problem (or key causes of all of them) and then make a plan how you'll address them. It takes time, and one must be consistent and wiling to search for the right information, find the right help, and stick with the path towards recovery.

If you are getting close to Allah it's a trial from Allah, which is good news and you can be happy. But if you getting away from Allah it's a punishment for you which is a bad news.

But if you are being punished for sins in this world (dunya), that means the punishment for that sin will be removed or severely lightened in the hereafter.

So it's good news

It depends on individual, but mostly it start from recognize the self and admitting the sins and ego of the self and how pointless the life is to be call Muslim while disobeying Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى, which makes the person talk while actually do nothing, unfortunate many Muslims are just talkers without doing the actions, this itself only will destroy the Heart. When you realize SINCERELY how low and sinful you are and how low this life is and how Great Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is and how worthy the next life is, you start little by little feel regret and cry for your sins, in this moment usually you start to fear Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى so much because of your past sins and how great is the punishment of Allah for those who disobey Him. This will make you to just regret, ask Allah forgiveness and just want to obey Him in all matter in Sincerely. You come to the point that we are truly only created for Worshipping Him, and thus you start to stop have any selfiness and you only want to give your whole self to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى and remembering Him constantly. This moment you want only do righteousness things, thus you start to read about laws and what is halal and haram, then you start to seek knowledge and start seriously recite Qur'an everyday with Du'as and memorize Qur'an bit by bit. In this moment by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى grace and guidance you have totally stopped sinning, this is because Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى if He gives you Guidance, He will send you Angel that suggest and help you to do good deeds and for sinning you feel distance and disgust. Doing this will soften your heart and you will have love for Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى and you take Him very seriously. Then you start bit by bit to perfect your Intellect and Aklaaq from different tests that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى will give you.

Marriage (Not Mut'ah) is very beneficial because when you choose the right partner, It really will help you in this path. Read this following Quran verse very carefully, perhaps it truly make you awake:

Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient. [Qur'an  57:16]
