How Europe is slowly dying despite an increasing world population

This map shows how European countries' birth rate per 1,000 people are much lower than other countries across the world. Click on each country to find out the rate and the population growth percentage, according to data from World Bank and CIA

Italy is dying and newborns are not replacing those who die, according to the country's health minister.

But the map above shows Italy is not the only country facing a population in decline. Europe's population is overall increasing by a very small amount.

Beatrice Lorenzin made her comments after the news that the country's birth rate - 8.4 per 1,000 people - is its lowest since the foundation of the modern state in 1861.

"We are at the threshold where people who die are not being replaced by newborns. That means we are a dying country."

Beatrice_Lorenzin_3199234c.jpgBeatrice Lorenzin, the minister of health, has called Italy “a dying country"

But the outlook for the rest of Europe and the West is not that different, especially in eastern Europe where World Bank data shows the average birth rate in central Europe and the Baltic countries is 12.6 per 1,000 people compared to 38 in sub-Saharan Africa.

Despite a world population growth rate of 1.2 per cent - according to UN data from 2010, revised in 2012 - the West is seeing lower population rates, usually below 10 per cent and birth rates substantially lower compared to developing countries.

The problem is not new but the causes remain an issue in some parts of Europe including Spain and Greece. In August 2013, writing in the New York Times, Suzanne Daley and Nicholas Kulish said low birth rates related to the economic crisis and high unemployment:

QuoteSeveral recent studies show that historically high unemployment rates — in excess of 50 per cent among youths — in countries like Greece, Italy and Spain are further discouraging young people from having children."

This decline in some parts of the world affects society and politics, the CIA warned:

QuoteCountries with young populations (high percentage under age 15) need to invest more in schools, while countries with older populations (high percentage aged 65 and over) need to invest more in the health sector.

"The age structure also can be used to help predict potential political issues. For example, the rapid growth of a young adult population unable to find employment can lead to unrest."

For now, Europe's hope to see continued positive population growth remains in the hands of migrants, often younger and in search of a better life for themselves and their family.

(Note: The data used in this map comes mainly from the World Bank. The data for the population change percentages comes from 2013 numbers from the World Bank and the data for the birth rate comes from the World Bank and CIA Factbook.)

If Iran follows this route they will become like Western countries and their birthrates will severely decline.

True, but you rather want them to hate Islam more? :/ This causes problems in the west as well, they abuse this and call it oppression...

No but I am just saying there will be consequences for this. Most Western countries report high levels of unhappiness. Iranian women once they adopt feminism will become difficult to marry as they will demand more and more.

True, It has displayed on the west, the persian women change and become like the west, they blend in. They are really loved by the swedish people.

But Iraqis just stay home, or distant themselves from the comminity, witch is good, but bad in the same time.

Hate Islam because we ask them to wear the clothes asked by Islamic norms? If they have these kind of mentality they just could get out and go to Europe.

Many shias don't wear Hijab, no one is forcing them, and the parents ain't even allowed to force them, they should love their religion, not force them to love it.

Your statement is ridiculous. So if someone want to go outside naked it is OK because we must not force them?

Is that how you think about it? You have no sense of mind? I was just saying that the women have a choice! Allah made us free. I don't say that they all should remove the veil, but we can't force them upon them. Your statement is legit ridiculous cause that is not a way a human would think.

The news is fake :D:D

The one behind this matter is a TV interviewer Masih Alinejad who lives in England and works for BBC, she ran a campaign of no to Hijab and pursued it, the 48% number is definitely a lie, she paid some girls to take off their scarf in public and later it turned out that some of these were in fact Mannequins as you can see in the picture below :D

Don't believe anything about Iran from Western news networks for most of them are propagandas:

There are some cultures where women could wear nothing or very few clothes so no this is you hear who say non sense. Basically without knowing you are following western norms not Islamic norms.

What current age are you talking about? So we are supposed to submit to western ideology? Just no. Think again about that.

I am not saying that. We don't need to do anything, I am saying that we need to be more concious about what happends in the world, not just the islamic world. Imam Mehdi will come as a saviour for whole humanity, not just Shias, you know that, right? :/ Hope his reapperance is near! Inshallah! We are humans!

Ya Allah! Ya rahim!
