Question - converting to (Shia) Islam

Rate this question

Question

Hi all,

I'm new on here. I'm of Christian background but have been studying Islam for a couple of years now. After reading the Quran, listening to many lectures, reading articles about the history and theology of Islam etc. I have come to believe that if I'm going to embrace Islam, it's going to be through the Shia school of thought.

My issue is though that I have recently moved to Barcelona, Spain and don't have any Muslim friends here. I have been trying to find any Spanish Shia groups on facebook or anything like that but with no success. Barcelona is the city with the biggest number of Muslims in Spain but it's been amazingly difficult to find any Muslim organizations (Shia in particular). I also don't speak Spanish so that makes it even more difficult.

I'm wondering, do you guys think it would be ok to just say the Shahada on my own? I know that intent is the most important thing when it comes to faith...

I would appreciate any and all advice.

Assalamu alaykum,

Welcome to Islam and the Wilayah of Ahlul Bayt [as], dear brother!

Yes, you can take the Shahadah on your own. Having a few witnesses is recommended because they can testify that you are a Muslim, should such a need arise in the future, but this is absolutely not an essential condition. I too had taken the shahadah on my own.
Wishing you all the success!!

Masha’Allah! Another person who through being open minded in a world against Islam wants to embrace the path of the Ahlulbayt. I recommend you try meet with your local community and like many brothers have provided always seek further knowledge about the faith. Good to see many more westerners embracing the path of justice, truth and equality, the path of Shi’a Islam the path of the Ahlulbayt.

@DanielSpain hi Daniel,  it's amazing to find somebody from Barcelona on here. I'm originally from Bulgaria but recently moved to Spain (living close to Barcelona).

It would be great to maybe meet up in the mosque in Barcelona, never been there yet. Can you maybe PM me (I can't send PMs yet, I guess because I'm new on here).

That's what I did, welcome to SC.  There is a Spanish brother here, who could probably help.

@Bakir Can you help him?

Sadly I am not residing in Barcelona, but afaik there are shias there although the community is small. Maybe there are other members in SC from Barcelona.

@Ivaylo hi you can say shahada by your own the real acceptance of Islam is by heart & mind althought new converts do it in front of other people to know other Muslims & be identified inside Muslim communities & receive support from other Muslims

To say: "Ashkhad al-Nahr al-Ullah and the Ashkhad-e Nah-e-Muhammad, the Prophet Muhammad," and if you add: "And Ashehdn al-Ali, and'Abnae'a al-Mu'asumin Hajjullah and O'ssiah the Prophet Allah and Khalifa'ah "you are a Muslim Shiite religion. Anyone who wants to enter Islam from another religion, and wants to be recognized as a Muslim in the Muslim community and recorded in the government documents as his Muslim name, it is better to go to the Friday Imam of the place or Imam of the congregation and go to His attendance is to give his testimony, in order to be certified for his registration at a government office. But if he does not want to be registered, then, after believing in the provisions of the shahid, simply saying the shahada is sufficient for becoming Muslim. And of course, they should also be guided by the rules of Islam.

Salaam Alaykum Brother

Welcome to Islam. People who convert to Shiite has one or several good habits that made them guided by Allah. It makes me jealous sometimes

Brother doing Shahadatayn شهادتین can be performed by yourself. If you want to do it in a mosque and celebrate it, I found this mosque in Barcelona:

https://www.facebook.com/ImamBargahAlQaimBarcelona/

You can talk with Imam of any Shia mosque to arrange a religious gathering at the mosque for your Islam Embracing. I hope you doing well. If you need help, you can shoot me a message.

:salam:

Brother, are you using voice recognition for typing your messages ? Because this  transliteration of shahada has nothing to do with the true shahada. I feltdo I had to let the brother know.

@Ivaylo congratulations on your choice. Shia Islam is truely a beautiful path. Shahada should be uttered this way, :

«Ash-hadu an La ilaha illAllah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammad rasulullah». This means acceptance of Allah (the exalted) as only God and of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family and progeny) as His final messenger.

You can also recite «wa ash-hadu anna Aliun waliullah», this means acceptance of the wilaya of Ali (peace be upon him).

@Ivaylo some harsh practices such as Tatbir is not from matter mainstream shia traditions it’s forbidden by most of Shia Maraji

That yo that you can see on www.tatbir.org

its one of issues  that causes some problem for understanding of Shia Islam also insulting 3 caliphs & Aisha is forbidden by Shia Maraji but practices by a minority of extremists shia groups (like Shirazi cult) that there is a doubt that they are supporting by MI6. So if you see such groups that using insulting & Tatbir as their idea don’t confuse them with all shia Muslims.
