Salam all

Sorry for bad english

i am 18 years old. i belong from deobandi family. this muharram my shia friend told me to know the real history about karbala and who is shia? And i am interested to know about karbala and shia's. Then he told me about ghader-e-khum. And then i ask him that how do you know this is true then he tell me that you read book and watch videos on youtube then i watch majlis and read history of krbala. now i think that ghadeer e khum was right we should follow imamat. everything about shia is right but one thing i dis agree which is matam. because many shia dont do matam and imagine If Imam hussain is here nowadays then they will not force us to do matam. and then i go to imam bargah with my shia friend ho told me about everything 12, imams , imam mehdi thing, And now i think i should follow imamat but if my family know they will not accept me cause nowadays shia image is bad people dont know about reality they only think that they do matam they are kafir.... but we should know then we talk.. i listen everytime noha and they are in my mind all time ya hussain ya husssian what should i do? plz help me now i am feeling relax to share

You don't need to agree or do Matam. It is just an expression of sorrow.

ShiaChat members disagree on whether tatbir (bloodletting) is permissible as a method of azadari (mourning for Imam Hussein AS). Most of the Ulema say to avoid tatbir for different reasons including: injury (self harm) or harming the reputation of Shia Islam, mocking and unwanted attention, making people shy away from joining Shia Islam, etc. Sheikhs and scholars are people, too, so they agree and disagree about tatbir, and they can sometimes change their mind. Everyone who follows a marja should find out if he allows tatbir (bloodletting) or not. If your marja is against it, then you have a right to think it is haram. If your marja says it is allowed, then you have a right to think it is permitted. Coming to ShiaChat and saying that your marja is right and everyone else is wrong is rude. Arguing at ShiaChat about tatbir causes animosity.

Matam is an expression and everyone has got freedom to do Matam as is narrated in the religion. Crying is matam itself. And also if you feel difficulty in hitting chest with hands then it is not compulsory, the only thing which means matam is to show grief upon the tragedy of Imam Hussain a.s. I tell you that Our Prophet PBUHHP did not hit his hand on Chest but instead hit his thigh in grief and it was also expression and not obligatory but choice is given to people who want to commemorate this tragedy with cultural customs such as reading Nohas in their own cultural way and hitting hands on chest or thigh.

The least Matam is to make your face Sad and weeping or Crying is also considered Matam by Imams and over Imams have reiterated this matam that cry over Hussain alright. There is no hard and fast rule in that.

Secondly, if you want to be a Shia, you can be Shia without showing it to others such as your Mom and Dad until you get older and have everything to take care of yourself and to avoid conflicts.

    • Specifically porn is destructive in future marital relations. I honestly feel ashamed how some people believe in these false stereotypes found in the porn industry, where both men and women have exaggerated features that have little to do with normality. They believe in these stereotypes and then expect them in their partners, to the point they even dare to bring the subject in public. And I prefer to stop it here because it is embarassing.
    • Condolences on the shahadat of Imam Hassan Mujtaba AS. Imam Hasan (a.s.) said: Translation I wonder about those who think about their body’s food, but do not think about their soul’s food. They keep undesirable food away from their belly, but fill up their heart with destructive subjects.1 Brief Description Our people are usually quite careful with their food and do not start eating unless they know what it is. They avoid anything that looks doubtful and some go to great lengths to ensure that the body receives good, clean, healthy diet. Yet, when it comes to the food for the soul, these same individuals will throw caution to the winds. With eyes closed, unaware of the reality, they would have no hesitation in pouring down any mental food into their soul. They harm their souls by accepting without question the speeches of unsuitable friends, misleading press reports and suspicious or poisonous propagation, and this is very surprising. 1. Safinat’ul-Bihar 84, article of taste.
