Is it Sunnah or permissible?

Whatever Ahlebait a.s did was Sunnah but Sunnah is not Fard. Once people asked Imam Ali a.s that why he does not apply color to his hair. Imam Ali a.s replied: "Prophet PBUHHP ordered us to apply color to hair so that those were old may look younger in battles and the enemy may know that they are fighting a young army and since there is no such condition now, so it is not necessary now because it was conditional hukum". Long hair were kept for protecting the back of throat so that it may not be directly exposed to the rays of sunshine or cold in winter while there were not strong medication during that time but now we have medicine to treat them so it depends on you, how you think about it.

I think this is the type of sunnah or tradition that was only mustahab or recommended during the prophet's time, because it may have been useful back then, but nowadays it does not have any benefit, so it isn't really recommended.
