Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is definitely the place to be in Canada if you want schools. there is AlhumduLilah a huge shia community here with atleast 2 fully accredited and acclaimed shia schools here (grade 1-12), I think there is a third as well opening up, and there are dozens of Imam Bargs, best thing is that almost every major restraunt here is now halal because of the demand.

I heard edmonton has a large community as well but if you want schools for your kids I strongly advise toronto

Toronto is a great Islamic Shi`a atmosphere, but I'm getting outta here fast. Prices for homes are through the roof and people are looting the newcomers especially. I'd recommend Mississauga, or maybe even Hamilton (if you're looking for English speaking centers). But if you're looking for the centers that have your mother-tongue language, definitely Toronto.

There aren't really any Shi`a centres in Mississauga, the Mississauga folk go to Brampton (Masumeen, which now has a grade 1-12 private school) or Toronto for jum`a. But I agree, owning and renting property in Toronto is very pricey, and Mississauga is not much better. Property is a little cheaper in Hamilton, Brampton, and Etobicoke. From those three I'd probably choose Hamilton.

Actually there are quite a few centres in Mississauga, but I don't think any of them are English speaking (huge Desi population there). I know of the Razavi Islamic Centre in Brampton, but I haven't been there yet and I have come to know that they rent out a church and have Muharram there, while they pray Jumu`a at a Leb/Arab centre. I advised (the OP) Mississauga because Hamilton and Brampton only have English speaking centres and I don't know the OP's background and if he'd prefer to be closer to Toronto than not. But now I have also found out that there is a growing Shi`a community in the Niagara region and expenses there are much cheaper than the GTA. Once I finish uni I may consider moving there.

1) Etobicoke is in Toronto

2) Hamilton is the worst choice of those three

I'm making a distinction between downtown Toronto and Etobicoke

I live in Mississauga, go to school in Toronto, and work in Brampton. Hamilton's housing is cheaper than Mississauga and Toronto, and I think Hamilton has a better Shi`i community than Etobicoke. There really isn't much going on in Etobicoke in general, the people living there are mostly older and non-Muslim. The only real advantage to living there is its proximity to downtown Toronto. Scarborough has a good Shi`i presence as well. Shi`i functions are very rare (or very hidden) in Mississauga and I usually go downtown or to Scarborough for that.

Brampton has a good Shi`i presence, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Why? lol. Most people live in North York, Etobicoke and Scarborough. Of those three I would definitely recommend eastern North York for affordable housing and good location.

But honestly Hamilton is a cr*p hole and is very far from Toronto (relatively speaking).

K look this up, it has many of the main mosques here http://www.jaffari.org/ look at the affiliates section.

brampton has a strong, indian/punjabi presence.

missisauga has a strong pakistani presence, good shia presence.

richmond hill has a strong irani presence, strong shia presence

scarborough and etobicoke also have a good muslim presencem

but brampton is a good choice but car insurance is the highest in the country here, and tons of bad drivers

its your choice, anywhere in the GTA would mean you would have accessibility.

But the centre my brother mentioned was masomeen, its a great place for jumah prayers, and a good madrassah to say the least.

do let us know if you have any more questions
