Wsalam,

Well I guess it depends on what you intend to do?

For running you could either get a treadmill or just go outside for a jog would be much cheaper. You can pretty much use your body weight for most exercises as well. Such as sit ups, push ups, ab workout etc.

Although I would advise getting dumbbells, bar pole, and a pull up bar as I'm sure these will be very handy.

Or you could go for a option of buying a 'all-in-one' gym machines where you can do numerous exercises on it.

If you are interested in solely cardio or fat loss:

A jump rope should be ample however you can get a treadmill or elliptical if you wish. Treadmills burn calories the fastest in my experience however they have the potential to do a number on your knees so make sure to read up on how to minimize the damage, for example keeping the treadmill on a slight incline is said to be better for the knees.

If you are interested in packing on muscle:

Don't spend your money on machines. I highly recommend you get a gym membership first and learn a little, if you have the dedication and the know-how you are much more likely to fully reap the benefits of the equipment you purchase. Once you have the basics down get yourself: a barbell + some weight plates, dumbbells with removable weights— if you are interested in adjustable dumbbells DO NOT GET THE Bowflex ones, get powerblocks—, an adjustable bench, a squat cage.

The squat cage is versatile and can be used to bench press, squat, do shrugs, over head presses, pull ups etc..

If you could give me a rough budget and how much space you have available I can change my suggestion accordingly because — at least for now— I am pretty much shooting in the dark.

Also, I suggest you purchase used equipment, it will save you a lot of money.

Good Luck,

I think its referred to as a workout power station not 100% sure though I just refer to it as 'all in one' gym machine. I'm unsure about the price where your located at although back here in the UK it ranges from about £100+ depending on what equipment its got.

You may find this useful? http://www.youtube.com/user/passion4profession/featured Its good if your unsure on what exercises to do etc.

well most equipment costs $200 or more unfortunately, but before you go buy a bunch of stuff, get a work out plan, as stated buy Dawud, there is any endless amount of stuff that you can get for a home gym, try getting a bowflex (http://www.bowflexhomegyms.com/bowflex_home_gyms_us/products/revolution/prdcdovr~160000/Bowflex+Revolution+Home+Gym.jsp) its pricy but it has everything you want in a gym, and they have decent payment plans, like $100 a month or less.

here is another site, on here tehre are different models of bowflex's some a lot less, check it out http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A3375251%2Ck%3ABowflex.

personally, what i would do is just buy a cheap bench, and some dumbbells, you can do every muscle group (even legs, weighted lunges are amazing for the entire lower body) with that, and it will cost a lot less. if you have a smart phone, get the free program jetfit, it will outline pretty much every muscle group and exercise out there with an animation, and 80% of them just require dumbbells.

$200 won't get you quality equipment. Just invest in a dumbell set for now or save until you can afford quality.

I agree with this. Save up your money till you can buy a good set, or you can always search craigslist and garage sales for bits and pieces of equipment. Stay away from machines as they pretty much are horrible. If you really want to buy weights, and plan on using it for a long time, look for an olympic barbell setup.

In the mean time, just buy one of these pullup bars and focus on pullups, pushups, situps, air squats, and other calisthenics. If you want to target your shoulders or something, fill up some milk jugs with water or sand and you can use those as dumbbells.

Home gyms are definitely the way to go, was a strong gym member for years but got sick of all the contracts and bullcow. If you educate yourself a bit on what you want to achieve it shouldn't be much more than a couple of dumbbells as others have said. Spending 200$ never worked out for me (I used to own a 'all in one' workout machine as well, went too waste.) Start off slow, eat right, and you should be losing weight in no time (if that's your goal).

Do some research online and find an exercise routine that you like. Usually all you need is 2 weights (dumbbells, etc). You don't even need a jump rope because you can do these moves sans one. Personally, I like body weight training and cardio and I try to make my workouts diverse so I don't get bored and I alternate which muslces I work on.

Just join a proper gym. Don't worry about the sweat as you'll take a shower in the end anyways. Plus, gyms are super cheap in India.

Be a man!

I am man this is why I have to remain away from gays , these days public gyms are quite flooded with gays...yuckkkkkkk

I did some research and ordered some thing like in the picture, seller told me it will cost some thing like 400$ with installation.

I did not allude to research on equipment but rather research on your own personalized workout routine (without the need for equipment). For example, what kind of moves, how many reps and intervals, how many times a week, etc.

I have stationary bike and treadmill at home and it is very useful. I use it everyday and it helps me to lose weight and tone my muscles. I exercise every morning and have a healthy diet. Water is very important too to avoid dehydration.

    • Yeah, I know a set of parents that we’re doing the same thing for their daughter. Kept rejecting guys because they didn’t feel he was up to par. The guys info wouldn’t even make it to get to accept/reject. Their daughter is now 40 and unmarried. They rejected so many guys that people just stopped approaching her.
    • It absolutely leads to sin unless you are a fantastic mu'min. And yes, although they might not turn to haram in terms of having relationships with girls, but you can't tell me you didn't see these guys talk about some girls in lustful ways or look at them in such a way. Furthermore, and something we seem to forget, is that in these gender mixed schools there is gender mixing in everything. In sport, as an example. Boys turn to watching filthy films whether they are in segregated or gender mixed schools.
    • No brother. What I do is this: I pray 17 rakaat Qadha prays everyday plus 11 rakaats Salaat-ul-layl. Salaat-ul-layl is something that does NOT have any replacement. It gives you good feeling. It really gives human being feeling of being in heaven. If you do Salaat-ul-layl, keep going. It guarantees both Dunya and Akherah.
    • I can give my opinion on men, as I'm not sure about women. I might have a pretty biased view due to personal experience, but some guys can get pretty desperate if they are segregated.  Also how does co-ed lead to sin? Most guys who were my friend in high school turned to pornography to sin, rather than girls. We might as well provide them with home schooling in that case. Trust me, we need to teach guys to respect women in this day and age. Alienating women is not the best option.  To be fair, there is a disadvantage of co-ed. If parents don't monitor their children, then there is a risk of them getting into the boyfriend/girlfriend culture.
