Research into Other Sects

Recommended Posts

(bismillah)

(salam)

After some discussion in another thread, it was decided that we would like to add a new forum to the site, dedicated to researching other, non-Imami, non-Sunni, sects. It was seen that while this is a point of interest for us, and worthy of study, the existing Sunni/Shi`a forum would not be appropriate or satisfactory to this purpose. In this forum, in sha Allah, we would like to have topics dedicated to investigating the variety of other, often lesser known, sects that have existed in our history, most particularly those other sects that have considered themselves to be Shi`i but who followed an alternate line of Imams, or who broke off from the Imamiyya by stopping at a certain Imam and not believing in his successor. These would include such groups as the Isma`ilis, the Zaydis, the Waqifas, the Fathis, and others and also various cults that have been grouped together under the ghulat label. Also of interest would be lesser known religions which have existed in the Muslim world both pre and post dating it, such as the Mandeans, the Yazidis, and so on. Some of these groups have continued to exist while many others have long passed away. Some ideas for topics could include such things as:

- What did the Imams (as) say about these groups?

- What did the Waqifis believe about the Qa’im and the ghayba and how is it relevant to our belief?

- Where did the Isma`ilis come from? Was their line actually descended from the Imams?

- What are the difference between the Zaydis of later times and the earlier Zaydis?

- What do the Nusayris actually believe?

- Who are the Mandeans, and are they the the Sabeans?

The primary purpose of this forum is research and investigation. Its primary audience is intended to be, like this website itself, believers in Ithna `Ashari Imami Shi`ism. Members of other groups can certainly participate, but it should be understand that the intent of this forum is not primarily to create a series of debates, and they should expect that as we are Imamis here, our research into these will not necessarily accord with your own beliefs regarding them.

Again, it is to be emphasized that this forum is _not_ meant for Sunni discussions, those should be kept in the existing Sunni/Shi`a forum.

May Allah bless this latest addition to the site, and make it fruitful in its results, in His service and in dedication to the living Imam of our time, may Allah hasten his reappearance.

I've noticed that ever since this forum has been up, we have had lots more Ismailis joining the forum

(wasalam)

Isn't this a good thing though? We just don't want misconceptions about our faith, thats all. I think diversity and pluralism is the way to go!

I didn't say it was a bad thing. Inshallah our Ismaili brothers and sisters can be guided to Shi`ism after some discussions on this board and some outside research

There are many Muslim Sects. It is hard to give a total number of sects we have. I wouldn’t be surprised if the total is way over 100 sects.

The true religion is Islam that was brought by the Holy Prophet (pbuh). The truest from of Islam is from the teaching of Ahl al-Bayt or Shia Ithna Ashari (Shia Imamiah).

assalamualaikum brothers n sisters,

there is a possibility that both sunni and shia are correct in somethings and wrong in somethings.

there is only one sect which will go to heaven. who knows the name of this sect. . History tells us that majority of people will go to hell becuz of ignorance, pride, ego, hate, love of their forefathers or ancestry, tribe, race, skin color etc. So this sect is very small in population compared to other sect.

So Shia are you small Sect  ? or Sunni Are you Small Sect  ?

so Which is this Sect  ? How to find out ? I dont Know . . Even in christianity this sect is small, Also in Judaism This Sect is small ,so in islam This sect is small or Large ?

That is a way of speech. Not to be taken literally.

There are good people in every sect and every religion.
