Women cry a lot

Women spend one year and four months of their lives in tears

It will come as no surprise to hardhearted males but, according to a survey yesterday, a woman will spend on average 16 months of her life crying.

During their first year they will shed tears for three hours a day when they need changing, feeding or entertaining.

Between the ages of one and three, a girl will cry for up to two hours and five minutes a day, with the main reasons including falls, tiredness and being told off.

As teenagers, they will wail for an average of two hours and 13 minutes a week, due mainly to hormones, arguing with friends, being dumped and being grounded.

The poll of 3,000 women - conducted by www.TheBabyWebsite.com - found that after the age of 19, women wept for two hours and 14 minutes a week.

Between the ages of 19 and 25, a soppy film is enough to make a woman reach for the tissues, plus indecision about a long-term relationship and losing a loved one. After the age of 25, the most common causes for an emotional outburst include falling out with a partner, hearing someone else's bad news and feeling tired.

All that adds up to more than 12,000 hours of crying.

Kathryn Crawford, of TheBabyWebsite, said: 'It is unsurprising that young children cry as a direct result of having accidents.

'But this research shows that we go full circle when we become adults, as feeling tired is one of the most common reasons adults and babies cry.

'But other more serious issues affect women in adulthood, as we're more likely to cry about things which affect other people as well as those things which affect us, such as bad news, our parents and worrying news reports.'

Huh? Nah...I really don't think this can be true.

Maybe non-muslims women cry more than muslim women. Muslims women are less likely to have boy friend, alcohol and (probably) other social problems. Theyre probably also less likely to be grounded which is the 4th common cause in 13-18s.

So??????

Scientific research supports the accuracy of ancient folk wisdom that crying is good for our health. As far as we know, human beings are the only creatures that shed tears. Although crying is a universal human experience that appears in every culture throughout history, we understand very little about this mysterious phenomenon. Traumatic events, prolonged stress, loneliness, loss, pain, and simple daily hassles often trigger crying.

Yet, most people have also cried tears of happiness, joy, and relief. How often and for what reasons people weep are influenced by many factors including gender, age, perceptions of events, societal attitudes, health, personality characteristics, and so on. Curiously, we have learned more about weeping from poetry, fiction, and movies than from medical and psychological studies. However, these scientific studies provide strong and consistent evidence that crying is linked to significant health benefits.

(salam),

No doubt, women do cry a lot. But do you not think this report is maybe exaggerating the results? I mean there must be a problem in the calculations... or maybe they're just generalising.

Also, did they include when women chop onions, and cry like there's no end?

that's not true, many muslim women (also in muslim countries) are being abused and oppressed. And the ones that are religious might cry every nights in their prayers so you never know.
