He was human. The Jinn was the one who could bring the throne before Soleyman (as) could rise; Asif said I'll bring it to you in the blink of an eye. Soleyman wanted to introduce his successor this way.

In Bihar it says there are 73 Isme Azams. Asif knew 1, Ahle Bait (as) knows 72 and God Almighty keeps 1 to Himself. Asif used the one he knew for bring the thrown in the blink of an eye.

Some people say taht he was not a prophet becasue at that time Sulaiman was prophet. ( pointing that at a time there can not be 2 prophets.) But it is wonrg.

For example Ibraheem and Loot existed at the same time. Moosa, Haroon and Shoaib existed at the same time. So there is a possibility that Asif ans Suleman existed at the same time.

He was a human. Soliman could bring the throne, but he asked those who were with him to show that Asef Bin Barkheya is his successor ( Wasi ).

and successor can be either a prophet or non-prophet..

This is the actual confusion about Asif.

He was the Jinn who carried the Throne of the Saba, from Sheaba, to Nabi Sulayman's court
