  13. Do sisters have an iftar stress?

Salam alaycom, It's unfortunate that many people put too much emphasis on food. Yes, it's important to have a healthy meal and replenish your body after breaking the fast, however, many people take the month of Ramadhan as the month of feast. The table is filled with several different dishes, most either oily/fried/heavy, and after that they gorge themselves with sweets. Today I flipped out at futoor because every day, despite having two dishes, there is always one of my children that doesn't like what we are having and complains. I drank tea, got up and prayed maghrib and left the table. Later, I had some soup left over from last night. (Moms always eat the leftovers?) It's easy to be ungrateful when you aren't doing any of the work. I think tomorrow I'll have scrambled eggs, toast, and cornflakes. The day after I'll have grilled cheese and tuna salad sandwiches. Maybe by then they'll appreciate it. If not, it will be a lot easier to fix 'breakfast' than to fix a large meal. If the end result is the same - complaining - then it's easier for me to handle complaints about eggs and cereal. So many people go hungry, even at futoor, or don't have anyone to cook for them and have to eat what is available in mosques or charity houses. I doubt if these people complain. Trying to make kids/hubbies thankful is jihad!! (Alhamd my dh doesn't complain about food, he'll eat almost anything.) Take a day off from cooking sis kareema. Give what you'd spend on the meal to charity and have salad and sandwiches. I'm sure you'll feel much better! Peace, Um Ali

Salam alaycom, Inna lillah wa inna ilayhi raj3oon. May Allah give her family patience to deal with the loss. Al Fatiha....... Peace, Um Ali
