Wilayat – An Exit from Slavery of Taghuts
By: Ali Haider

On the scorching heat of Arabia, the standard bearer of Islam, the man who spent his entire life in establishing the Islamic system in the lives of the nations of Arabia all of a sudden halted the tired caravan of more than hundred thousand pilgrims returning back home. This missionary man, our Holy Prophet Mohammed (s.a.w.s) was commanded to deliver a final message, that message whose non delivery would just ruin all his life long efforts. This was the message of completion of Religion. We all know what this message was, and that is the reason we all are celebrating today the anniversary of Gadeer.

Unfortunately there has been a lot of misunderstanding on this event, we the claimants of followers of Wilayat, challenge the others that they did not understood the meaning of Maula, but the reality is that we also did not understand the same. In fact the difference is very much evident; they denied the Socio-Political Authority of the Successor of the Holy Prophet (s) in 11th year of Hijra, whereas we did the same in the 260th year of Hijra.

The importance of Wilayat is very much evident that the Prophet(s) in his first invitation gathering to Islam, announced his successor there itself. The significance of Gadeer lies in this fact that Allah has asked the Prophet(s) to appoint a leader for the Muslim Ummah, which implies that the Ummah is not left alone on its own. Wilayat means coming under the authority of a righteous leader, who will stir the society out of all the political turbulences, manage their affairs, expose the conspiracies of enemies, confront the enemies and thus pave the way for the spiritual upliftment of the society. What was snatched away from Imam Ali (a.s) was this right of political leadership.

The Holy Quran mentions it in several places that the Wilayat of Allah(s) takes the believers out of darkness (Zulmat) towards light (noor), whereas the Wilayat of Taghut (devil) takes a person into darkness. Hence it proves that there are two types of Wilayat or authority, either the authority of Allah which means the Authority of those appointed by Allah or the authority of Taghut, the devils. And we have to accept one, as the law goes such that if you do not accept the Wilayat of Allah(s), you will be by default in the Wilayat of Taghut (Devils). Is this acceptance of Wilayat geographical?  This is a question which needs to be addressed and is simple. Wilayat of Allah(s) means accepting the commands of Allah and disassociating the commands of Taghut. Hence it might happen that geographically a person might be living in the space controlled by the Taghut or we call it an oppressive regime, but still he could be under the Wilayat of Allah(s). And his sign of being in Wilayat of Allah(s) will be his struggle against the Wilayat of Taghut.

It is essential to mention what the Wilayat of Taghut, does as such. There are several things to talk about, but I will confine it to one primary major state of living under such Wilayat. The Wilayat of a Taghut implements a system in a society by virtue of which it takes the people out of the bondage of divine creator and makes them the slaves of their corrupt system. By their exterior, they would still be seen as devoted worshipping Muslims, but their thinking, attitude and way of life will be that of slavery to the Taghut. This is known as Nizam e Istehsaali (System of Slavery). This system is where a human being becomes a means to fulfil the ugly desires and evil needs of the Taghut. And in the process of doing so, he is also gifted with some left over bones to enjoy his life. His life becomes like a machine, whereby he keeps on serving the interests of the higher ups. This system goes through several stages and by terminologies they go in process of Istimal (being used), Istehsaal (becomes a slave), Istibaad (comes into bondage), Istihimar (becomes a donkey) and then finally Istimaar (dictatorship control). I don’t have room to explain all these stages over here in depth, the point which I want to raise are that the acceptability of these facts.

We ourselves are the best judge to see in what kind of system we are breathing. Is this system of slavery to the Taghut or the system of divine laws that is Wilayat? If our lives are like machines moving around day and night to serve the interests of West, then we are living a life of slavery. The Muslim Ummah if we see today is dominated by those country leaders, who are explicitly the puppets of the Zionist controlled Western Powers like US and Britain. Hence it is but natural, that the people of these nations would be oriented towards the service of their Lords only.

Many of the Shia groups prestigiously display their utmost respect towards the Sheikhs of their nations, but are not showing sign of even feeling the pain for the distressed, oppressed people of Palestine and Iraq. We shia’s who live under such governments do not even have that much rights to raise our voice to offer our Eid prayers on the correct day, it is not that we are compromising for the sake of Wahdat, we are doing all this because we have submitted to this system of Taghut. Though we know something is wrong, but we have lost all our courage and desire to really fight our way out of this submission if not today then least for tomorrow. Our inclination towards our religion in such systems and government is merely an act of ritual confined inside the four walls of Hussainiya, where even the speaker on the pulpit has his lips stitched to speak the truth.

If we take the state of the Muslims in Britain and U.S, there also it becomes very much evident that we are into a mode of slavery to them. The way Muslim youths are migrating to these nations and then they work for hours and hours at lowly places which in many cases would be indulged in haraam trading. If you look at the state of Scholars in Britain, the day they land most of them are desperate to get a permanent residence status, so that they can get the benefits of being officially declared to be in the Wilayat of Queen, which means getting social services benefits.  In countries like India and Pakistan, there is again the same story in different form, one nation has submitted to the crimes of Musharraf, and the other neighbour is culturally mismarred by Western lustful culture and adulteration of Islam by Hindu Myths, thus making them a slaves of their desires to such an extent that their lives are first to fulfil their basic needs and then get into a mode of entertainment, means though calling themselves as Muslims but following the ideology of Happism and Liberalism.

This system of Taghut which is making us psychologically slaves would result into major diseases of negligence, lack of sensitiveness and any urge to come out and defend the truth. Hence Allah(s) has devised for us a system that is this system of Wilayat. Just like Aba Abdillah (a.s) thanked Allah for giving him birth in an era where he opened his eyes in this world, under the Wilayat of Allah(s), under the governance of his grandfather, tells us that how important it is to live a life under a proper Islamic government.

A basic question which comes up over here is that how we can do this? Are these talks just emotional theoretical doctrines or is it a practical reality. It is in fact shameful to hear such questions from the Shiite’s. That sect who believes that the world will not end unless it witnesses a global government of Righteous, is so careless and negligent about Establishment of an Islamic government? Has this belief on the return of the saviour made us so lethargic and lazy? If we are careless about these essential facts today, then for sure we will be standing amongst the ranks of those people who will deny the saviour when he returns.  So do I mean that we should come out on the street and start a revolution to overthrow the governments of Taghuts? Things do not work out in such an abrupt way. The fundamental issue today is our way of thinking, our approach towards Islam and more than all our understanding of what Islam wants us to be. We are not even prepared to establish righteous leaders. When it comes to Wali e Faqeeh, we either deny it or come out with our own versions of Wali e Faqeeh. The sun glowing and rays falling over, but some have closed their eyes preferring to live in darkness (Zulmat), whereas some others are trying to turn on lights of their own.

It is time we devise and work on a program for the establishment of Wilayat Globally. Imam Khomeini (r.a) said it beautifully “I do not care whether Shah stays or not, my objective is to establish an Islamic Government, but unless Shah exits this is not possible. Hence to do so we need to overthrow him”. Hence we cannot be in hopes of an Islamic Government and not work towards how we overthrow the Taghuts from our society.  There are three missionary ways to do this in the light of the Quran, which Allama Tabatabai (the owner of Al Mizan) summarizes it as first Propagation and Instruction about True and Pure Islam, it’s teachings, it’s ideology, it‘s commands and it’s mission, the second stage is to use this first stage to bring an awareness amongst the people so that they come out to protest against the evils of society, against the Taghuts in a non-violent manner. And then comes the last stage of War and violent crusade.

We need to adopt this program. Imam Khomeini (r.a) guides us to four actions to overthrow the government of Taghut. If we follow these four actions eventually and gradually we will succeed God willing. These actions are:

1. Severing all relations with tyrannical governmental institutions
2. Refusing to cooperate with them.
3. Refraining from any action that might be construed as aiding them
4. Creating new judicial, financial, economical, cultural and political institutions.

These are really those golden actions which we need to adopt. These were the steps which this great Faqih extracted from the Seerah of our Infallible Wali’s of Allah. Our Imam’s never ever cooperated with the corrupt rulers, and on the other hand they worked towards educating people towards a proper system.  The Supreme leader in his Hajj Message mentioned the same thing that we need to be independent of these systems of slavery. We need to advance in technology, literature and in all those essential fields of this world, which they use to dominate our soul. They control our body leading to control of our soul. We need to uplift the souls so that our bodies acquire freedom from their clutches of slavery.

So now let us celebrate Gadeer. Gadeer is demanding something from us. It is demanding us to work towards returning those lost rights of Ameerul Momineen (a.s). Are we happy about that Imam Ali (a.s) got appointed as a Wali? When was he not a Wali? Or was it something hidden which was revealed on 18th Zilhajj?  We should be happy that Allah(s) has officially declared the system of Wilayat, the system of Islamic governance to us on this day, but on the other hand we should be mourning and cursing ourselves on what we have done to return the rights of Ali (a) to him. See how happy and pleased Ali (a.s) was with Abu Dhar. When Abu Dhar raised the slogans of protest against Taghuts and was exiled, Imam Ali (a) despite of a ban went ahead to bid him farewell, and knocked down Marwan with his whip in fury.  Can we not at least become like Abu Dhar and please him? But is it really possible when our breaths are being brought from the Queen, Dictators and Sheikhs?

Yes but at one place in world, they really have the rights to celebrate Gadeer. It is Khomeini’s nation who has the rights to celebrate. They have soothed the heart of their Imam, they have demonstrated that they will not submit to the Taghuts and have established an Islamic Government. So what is our duty in this case?  We have to Defend Wilayat, we have to support Wilayat, we have to protect Wilayat and over and above all this we have preach Wilayat and eventually we have to establish Wilayat, in our selves, in our homes, in our families, in our society, in our nation and then finally under the mega leadership of Imam Al Hujjat (a.t.) over the entire globe.

So let us pledge, that if I am forced to breath on the lands of Taghuts, but these breaths of mine will not be that of peace and comfort, I will do something which will make the lives of Taghuts difficult if not today then in near future. Living on the land of Taghut, I will work towards the establishment of Wilayat of  Allah (s). And if I really put in these efforts, then at least before my last breath leaves my body and my soul is prepared for a divine ascension, then at least I can confidently say “ Man Kunto Maula Fa Haadha Aliyun Maula” “Of Whomsoever I am the Wali, this Ali is his Wali”. At least then I deserve to raise this traditional slogan, because though not successful, I am departing this world as a soldier of Wilayat.
