Is it nessasary?

Yes and there will be men in tommorows time that wont like the head scarf until the time where they wont like any clothes on a female.On the contrary niqaab should be implemented now more than ever since there is a lot of mixing of genders in many public places unlike the old times and it will only benefit todays society.
Niqaab is an excellent compliment to hijab, you wouldnt have to worry about looking at a female, making eye contact etc.

but are you saying niqaab=purdah? cos I never heard of purdah before... 
If you say yes, then I'll vote "without"... that's my personal choice anyway. I live in the US, and I'm one of two Muslimahs who work in public in my city (apparently), and I get enough strange looks, questions, and comments without covering the lower half of my face. In the society I live in, it would be seen as 1) extreme opression and/or 2) I have something to hide (other than my face, maybe my identity, I dunno)...

I agree with you there because I live in the US too and if I ever wear that in public I would be attracting attention, besides I get enough stares as it is
Another thing is that women in Iraq don't even wear that anymore so if I ever go back I don't have to worry about wearing it.

No! Purdah is just refference to the part that covers the face...
Not the hair! I know Muslimah's must cover their hair and everywhere else (Some exceptions for hands, upto the wrist etc.)

In urdu as well, pardah means curtain. It is also the word for hijab. But the word "hijab" is uncommonly used in Pakistan, but most people understand its meaning.
In Pakistan, if a woman covers her hair, it is said: "She does pardah" instead of "She does hijab".
Niqab in urdu means face veil.

I'm sorry sister it's just that I feel that if all women wore this face-veil then I wouldn't know my sister from my mother from any other woman. Know what I mean?

who has said that the prophet's wives wore the niqab? did that mean hazrat aishah wore it as she went out to the battle of jamal? can u provide a good historical reference for that?
i personally do not think the niqab is good for society. i think first of all seeing all the women in society complete covered makes people hypersensitive to male-female relations in a way that would not happen if they were not denied the opportunity to see each other's faces. just look at some of the stuff that happens in saudi arabia. i also think it gives the impression that women are the property of their households and do not have their own voices or identity or any role to play in society.

Pardeh or Pardah is NOT an Urdu word, it's a Farsi word. But it's used in urdu, also niqab is not a farsi word, it's an arabic word, that's also used in farsi.
The word Kitab is an arabic word, just because they use it in farsi doesn't make it a farsi word, it's an arabic word.

i voted for "yes - i am guy".. but tell u something... i voted for yes, but not everywhere .. it depends on where u live... i mean i live here in Iraq, Most of the women in Najaf, or alot of them where it adn they still wearing it... and in Karbala 2. But if u live in UK, or America, I vote for NO.. cuz Islam doesnt wan that if it creats a bad picture of Islam.
and uasked, only wives of prophet Marry.. i answered that.. and told u aloooooooot of women here in Iraq still wearing it... so no only the wives of Prohpet (saw)

I feel that a face-veil likens to a hindu-dot after marriage...
Some men insist on the veil after marriage...
like they are now the property of their husbands and I feel that Iḿ against that...
how true it is...
I dont have any sources about the Prophet: I was hoping on leaving it upto the women, my dear sisters since itś an issue that surrounds them mostly... help a guy out

no-one said it was arabic... It's Urdu!
Arabic doesn't have a "Pe'" sound, they have a "Be'" sound
So they don't say "Pepsi" they say "Bebsi"

Pardeh is a Farsi word. The only arabs that may have this word is Iraqi's ( they have a bit of farsi influence ) and maybe khaleeji's, then they would say Bardah most likely.
Indians and Pakistani's say it in their accent, purdah/purda. But the word is from Farsi. It is spelled the same, just pronounced in different accents. The word Pardeh is also used in Turkish, Azeri, and Turkmenistan, even Uzbekistan.

I find niqab very beautiful..(plz, let me neglect these urdu/farsi/tohuwabohu languages, in Islam, if we can, letsrefer in Arabic, its a good practice too...)..i wanted to wear it too, until the day ireally wore it, i tried like 2 times, in library and out, it was bad for me, i couldnt breathe and didnt feel comfy at all.
I beleive it is highly recommanded, but i suggest to all brothers, who think, woman is not complete without niqab, TRY IT IN A HOT, HUMID DAY!

I voted for that I don't use it since women couldn't vote that they think it is necessary.If we could do that I would vote for" yes".Fatimah Zahra (a.s)and Zaynab (a.s)used niqaab and we should follow them.I don't use it right now but I am planning to start inshallah.My hubby encourage me.
