Thanks for bringing this topic up again...

I had a question, I heard that Sayid Fadlullah does not make it mandatory, does anyone have the fatwa/know where I can get it? I already browsed his website but no luck

Thanks

(salam) Sister,
Wearing socks are mandatory because Sayid Sistani and Khoei said so..they show part of your body and catches attention.

uffoo, its impossible to post anything on shiachat, because somebody already posted it!

i was wondering because I always see sunni sisters wearing full abaya/jilbab, covered head to toe, but they show their feet! it looks very odd.

why are voting on somthing Allah has made wajib? It not like the law can be changed if many women vote against wearing "socks"! who cares what everyone thinks?

to those who voted no: would you like to meet Imam Zaman without your socks?

apologies if i sounded a bit harsh

The person I heard it from is an extremely reliable source...I'd still like to see the fatwa though.

(salam) Sisters,
What's wrong with wearing socks? It doesn't hurt you in any way and actually protects you..Islam gives us reasons on the things we should do.

(salam)

From the previous post, this is what I wrote and still no answer...

Quote

Having sifted through 7 pages of this thread, I don't feel we have got any where. There are still people confused on the issue. A few people have claimed that Ayatollah Sistanee (ha) says it is wajib to cover feet, others have said he says it's just the sole and others have said he says it is ihtiyaat wajib. One of the sisters said they wrote off to Ayatollah Sistanee (ha), sister can you please upload the stamped fatwa you received for everyone else's benefit. Brother Arman, you posted a q&a but it does not make it clear if ths is based on ihtiyaat wajib or not. Then someone else said Ayatollah Khamenei (ha) says it is not necessary to cover feet, again, could you please give us a reference for that. In terms of providing ahadith, unless anyone here is a mujtahid and is able to distinguish the sanid from the dha3if ahadeeth based on their chain of narration etc then it's pointless to post them. That's what we have our maraji3 for, they are able to derive fatawi based on sanid hadeeth and Quran. So my plea to all the sisters who have posted in this thread; could you provide proof of what you say the fatwa from Ayatollahs Sistanee (ha) and Khamenei (ha) are. So at least we can conclude this topic, it's all well and good that we discuss and give our own opinions, but at the end of the day, it's the fatawi we are interested in.

In essence, according to Ayatollah Sistanee (as), is the hukm based on ihtiyaat wajib or not?

Jazakum Allah in anticipation.

Wasalaam

Sorry for coming into the sisters forum but I saw the topic on the main forum page and just came in to ask:

why are you creating polls over fiqh questions? Wouldnt it be more suitable to make a thread in the Islamic Laws and Jurisprudence thread and leave it to the ulema to decide if its allowed or not?

dude covering feet is part of hijab - but socks well lets think deeply on this issue. The bright pink ones or the ones which are like feet gloves can cause many men to stray so it would be best to wear the cheapy black wooly ones u can get from discount stores - 3 for the price of 2 - and as for the ones which have pictures of fat men such as homer simpson and rude jokes well they would not be sensible for a hijjabi lady - imagine a woman in black niqab, black abaya then socks with a picture of Homer simpson drinking and saying im not as think you drunk I am. This would not really be ideal - so we would have to go around sock shop and examine each sock as an individual specimen then when you are soo bored that you dont really give a damn about socks a major step forward in hijab reform will have taken place and the findings along with other sc polls will be presented at the next shia youth conference so we can enlighten our youths about the vital matters troubling this sockless ummah.

According to Ayatullah Sistani:

450. It is not permissible for a woman to expose the top part of her feet to a non-mahram onlooker. However, she is allowed to keep her feet —top as well as sole— exposed during salãt, if she is in a place where she is immune from the looks of a non-mahram person.

In that case, when you open a thread dont expect it to be slightly different (as you said) because it would probably have been discussed tens of times before.

Its ok, but do read the shiachat rules:

5- Starting a topic that was discussed before.

If a topic has been discussed before and led to a 50+ post thread, please look it up and find your answer rather than opening a new thread. It's very annoying that people have to repeat themselves when it comes to such matters. There is no reason to start topics that have been exhausted.

Seriously, it's very difficult to go through alllllllll of the pages, maybe some of the older threads should be deleted, I don't know anyone who has the time to go through all of them.

Do you consider Socks to be part of Hijab
No.
Covering your feet is a part of Hijab.
You can do that by wearing socks or by wearing covering shoes like boots.
