Salam All;
I am a little confused, as for a long time I have believed that Imam Hasan's shahadat is at 28th Safar (and most of the Pakistani community goes by that date) but it seems now that 8 Safr is also associated with his Shahadat.....I wana know why is there such a huge differnce among the dates, and which date is more authentic (or say more popular)

Salam Alaikum
Arabs usually take 7 Safar as his martyrdom anniversary.
Iranian, Pakistanis, and Indias usually take 25 Safar as his martyrdom anniversary.
Why? Simply because there are two narrations.

Two dates have been mentioned, 7th Safar and 28th Safar, the latter is also commemorated as the day the Prophet died. And as Br. Al Mujtabah has stated, the Arabs mourn on the 7th, the others on a different date.
In Zanzibar, we used to commemorate Al Hasan Shahadat on the 28th. The system in Zanzibar was that shops would remain closed during the Panjatan's Shahadat dates.
However, being Khojas, many of us had converted to Shiaism from Ismailies, and as they don't believe in Al Hasan, they would often taunt us and tell us that we don't really believe in him, etc, using the facts that the shops were closed on 4 days, not 5, a silly statement, but there you have it.
The elders in the community then decided to commemorate the Shahadat on the 7th, thus making a statement that Al Hasan too was from the Panjatan, and that we believed in him.
