Ill tell you what the answer is. If you do not agree with it then dont go to these places. I can assure you that A Seestani has not said matam is not permissible and if he has why has no one put proof?

Ayatullah Khomeini says that every time you beat yourself you are not hitting yourself but it is a slap on Yazidiat.

Now you tell me whosoever is against this and feel it shouldnt happen maybe just maybe might be?

Azadari Hussain is wajib. Azadari is the mourning of Imam's martyrdom and in the Furu Deen the 9th one is Tawalla which means to love the Ahlul Bayt. So if they have been killed and you lve them affcourse you will mourn. However as far as I believe just feelign the grief complies with this act. It doesnt mean you have to beat yourself. However by beating yourself there is no harm.

Its a-okay with no shirts on.  Posted Image

However, I think its best to do it in seclusion (ie not the public masjid)--like the boys  in my area do. Nothing beats true matam with 40 youths full of energy and love of Imam Hussein.

The love of Imam Hussain (a.s.) has nothing to do with beating your chest and certainly the one's who do it for show and lose their modesty by taking their shirts off should question whether their love is real and if it is what are they achieving by making a mockery out of that love.  1000 + years have passed and all we have to show for the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (a.s.) is a bunch of people beating their chests every Muhorram.  And we wonder why our Imam doesn't come back.

The question was not about whether mataam is permissible it was whether doing it without a shirt is permissible. I would think it's Makhru to do it without a shirt as it goes against modesty - and people who aspire to be Mohmin refrain from Makhru acts.  You would never see an Ullema without a shirt and certainly our ahlul bhait (a.s.) would not have conducted themselves like some of our men do in jaloos and other places for mataam, so what justifies these acts? Why do men feel the need to do such things that go against basic principals of modesty. It is unecessary and has absolutely nothing to do with love of imam Hussain (a.s.) in fact I am certain even he would frown upon it. Especially the public displays of such immodest acts.  I have seen men in -30 weather, freezing cold, beating their chests without shirts. As a shia I feel it's so dispicable, I can't imagine what the non-shia and non-muslims think when they see this.  What was such a pure form of lamentation has become so adulterated and barbaric.  I wish more Maulanas would speak out against this.

is it a ok to matam with no shirts while all the people are looking at our body and its movements? or we should matam with shirts.?
  Yaimam

its disgusting to see people in mosque showing lower lines of there body and excusing it in names of MATAM.

I am strictly against the matam without clothes, even it is against islamic ethics.

the laws of god (if that matters to any of you) say that a man should be covered from his belly to his navel.

so long as the minimum is covered, everything is fine.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad from Hariz from Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following:

"I asked abu 'Abd Allah, recipient of divine supreme covenant, 'Are love and hate part of belief?' The Imam asked, 'Is belief anything but love and hate?'

thats fine.

but the laws of god state that so long as you are covered from your navel to your knee, there is no sin.

so long as they are covered, no one is comitting a sin.

im afraid yours (or anyone elses) personal opinions dont count for anything.
