isn't it a wonder you knocked at our doors just yesterday,
and you're almost  leaving by today;
You came with blessings in abundance,
and goin away with it leavin us in a trance;
O holy month of Ramadhan,
you came to purify man,
You cleansed aplenty of those with sin,
pity for the one who didn't win;
The glorious gift of heaven,
forever to abide there-in;
Lucky are those who have been forgiven,
unlucky the ones left barren;
pray we be among the lucky ones,
to be with the chosen ones;
on the day of respite,
may our deeds be our pride...

Salaam alaikum

The graceful and Holy Month of Ramadhan has set in; the month of Mercy and Forgiveness, when the gates of Hell are shut and the gates of Mercy open.

Mawlaya Ya Mawla (my Master O my Master) is a nasheed by Husein Virji,  inspired by (not a translation of) the Supplication given by Imam Ali (a.s.) also known as the Munajaat of Masjid-e-Kufa, beseeching Allah swt for forgiveness and mercy.  It is typically recited during the nights of Qadr.

Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla
Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla

Protect me O my Lord, on the final judgement day
When the guilty and unjust, will beg and plead and pray
When belongings won’t avail, and sons will not respond
Have mercy on my soul, I beg you O my Lord,
Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla

My Master, O my Lord, my Saviour and my Guide
I wander through this life, no place for me to hide
I am your servant lost, I seek your mercy God
And only you can show, such mercy O my Lord
Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla

You created me my Lord, and yet I disobey
I sometimes miss my fasts and sometimes miss my prayers
I am your creature Lord, have mercy on my soul
For only you can show, such mercy O my Lord
Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla

Allah you are the High, I’m the lowest of the low
Allah you are sublime, I’m guilty but I know
That when I ask of you, then you will surely show
Your mercy on your slave, all praise to you my Lord
Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla

Allah you are eternal, I’m here just for a while
You are the Needless One, I’m needy and deprived
My life is full of sin, forgive me O my God
For only you can show, such mercy O my Lord
Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla

Your absolute command, dictates my every move
You give me all I need, and shower me with love
I am so weak and frail, defeated and confused
And only with your help, will I succeed my Lord
Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla

My Master O my Lord, have mercy on my soul
You are so kind and gentle, you are so merciful

And when I stand before you, on the judgement day
I’ll cry to you my Lord, I’ll beg and plead and pray
Mawlaya Ya Mawla,  Mawlaya Ya Mawla
