{إنَّما سُمِّي رَمَضَانُ لأنَّهُ يُرَمْضُ الذُّنوبُ}

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) has said:

Say not, "This is Ramadhan" and "Ramadhan has departed" and "Ramadhan has arrived" for surely, Ramadhan is one of the names of Allah, The Mighty the Glorious, who neither arrives nor departs.

Imam Redha (peace be upon him) has said:

Surely, the Fridays of the month of Ramadhan possess an excellence over the Fridays of the other months, just as the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) possesses an excellence over the other prophets.

Hadith No. 40

Farewell to the Month of Ramadhan

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم :

{اللَّهُمَّ لا تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنْ صِيَامِي لِشَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَإنْ جَعَلْتَهُ فَاجْعَلْنِي مَرْحُوماً وَلا تَجْعَلْنِي مَحْرُوماً}

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) prayed:

0' God! Ordain not this month of Ramadhan to be the last one for my fasts.  But should you ordain it to be so, then make me blessed and leave me not, deprived (of Your mercy).

HOLY RAMADHAN: THE MONTH OF Allah (SWT)

The month of Holy Ramadhan is known as Shahrullah meaning "the month of Allah". It is indeed the month of Barakah (Blessings), Rahmah (Mercy) and Maghfirah (Forgiveness). It is reported that at the advent of this great month, the Holy Prophet (saww) delivered a sermon to his followers in which he said:

"O people! Verily the month of Allah has come to you with Blessings, Mercy and Forgiveness. It is a month which is considered by Allah as the best of all months, its days are best of all days, its nights are best of all nights, and its hours are best of all hours.

It is a month in which you have been invited to become guests of Allah and you have been made in it, the favourites of Allah. Your breathing in this month is counted as Tasbeeh (glorifying Allah), your sleep is considered as 'Ibadah (worship), your good actions in it are Maqbool (accepted) and your invocations therein are Mustajaab (sanctioned)".

It is a lengthy sermon, detail version of which can be found in Almanac and many other Islamic books concerning this holy month. However, at the end of this sermon, Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (as) asked, "O prophet of Allah! What is the best deed (one can perform) in this month?" The Holy Prophet (saww) replied: "O Abul-Hassan! The best deed in this month is to become cautious of (not falling into) haram acts".

The Holy Prophet (saww) also said: "If the servant (of Allah) knew what is in (the month of) Ramadhan, he would have surely wished it to (last for) a year". (Bihar al-Anwaar)

POINTS TO REMEMBER ABOUT THIS MONTH:

Call the name of this month with respect: We should avoid calling this month by its name as though it is like any other month. Many of us usually say "Ramadhan is here" or "Ramadhan is coming". The Holy Prophet (saww) has asked us to accord highest degree of respect even to the name of this holy month because it is also one of the names of Allah (SWT).

The Holy Prophet (saww) said, "Do not say: Ramadhan, for verily Ramadhan is one of the names of Allah. Instead say: The month of Ramadhan". (Kanzul-'Ummaal)

Shaytan, the greatest enemy of mankind is imprisoned in this holy month: The Shayateen are taken as captives so that they do not interfere with the good deeds of the true believers and do not mislead them into haram acts. Therefore, whatever evil we commit in this holy month, we ourselves shall be blamed for the same.

It is the tendency of man to blame others for his wrong-doings. Although Shaytan does misguide man, but  man has already been forewarned about him and has been blessed with Aql (reasoning power) to take heed of the warning and be careful of him. On the day of Judgement, when man will be questioned about his misdeeds, he will immediately blame Shaytan for it. But Shaytan will say: "I never forced him into anything. I simply invited him and he responded".

"The like of Shaytan is that he tells man: Disbelieve. And when he disbelieves, he says: I am absolved from you, verily I fear the Lord of the worlds". (59:16)

However, in the holy month of Ramadhan, Shaytan is actually imprisoned so that he does not invite others to misdeeds. The Holy Prophet (saww) has said that, "Allah (SWT) has appointed for every accursed Shaytan seven Angels so that they are not free till this month of yours passes by". (Bihar al-Anwaar)

He (saww) also said: "Allah (SWT) tells Jibrael: Descend towards the earth and imprison the Shayateen so that they do not corrupt the fasts of My servants". (Bihar al-Anwaar)

In this month, sins are forgiven: We should therefore seek forgiveness for all our sins and ammend ourselves. The doors of Heaven are opened on the first night of this holy month and are not shut till its last night. Thousands of Angels ascend and descend between the heavens and the earth every day and night of the month. The Holy Prophet (saww) has said: "This month is called Ramadhan because it burns down the sins".(Kanzul-'Ummaal). He (saww) also said: "He is a wretched who is denied forgiveness from Allah (SWT) in this month". (Bihar al-Anwaar)

It is said that one, who is not forgiven in this holy month, shall not be forgiven in any other months unless he presents himself on the plain of 'Arafah (in Hajj) to seek forgiveness.

The Holy Quran was revealed in this month:

"The month of Ramadhan is that in which Quran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of guidance and the distinction.." (2:185)

According to the Tafseer of S V Mir Ahmad Ali, the complete Quran was revealed on the Holy Prophet (saww) on the night of Qadr i.e. power.

"Verily We have revealed it in the night of power (Laylatul-Qadr)". (97:1)

Thereafter, he (saww) was intimated to deliver it gradually to the people as and when Allah (SWT) deemed suitable during a period of 23 years.

One should therefore, give a lot of importance to the recitation of the Holy Quran in the holy month of Ramadhan and at the same time understand and apply its teachings in his practical life.

The Holy Prophet (saww) has said: "Impose upon yourself with recitation of the Quran for verily in its recitation, there is atonement of sins, and cover from the hell-fire and peace from the punishment of Allah (SWT)".  (Bihar al-Anwaar)

Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (as) has said: "There is no good in that reading which is not followed with reflection and there is no good in that worship in which there is no understanding". (Bihar al-Anwaar).  He (as) also said, "Attach yourselves to (the teachings of) Quran and take it as your Guide". (Kanzul-'Ummaal)

We wish all our readers the month of Ramadhan Mubarak. May Allah (SWT) bless us all with good health particularly during this holy month so that we derive maximum benefits from our fasts and other acts of worship -ilaahi aamin.

Please remember us in your prayers.

The sermon given by the Prophet (pbuhim) on the last Friday Of Shaaban, on the Reception of the month of Ramathan:

Quote

“O People !

"Indeed ahead of you is the blessed month of Allah. A month of blessing, mercy and forgiveness. A month which with Allah is the best of months. Its days, the best of days, its nights, the best of nights, and its hours, the best of hours. It is the month which invites you to be the guests of Allah and invites you to be one of those near to Him. Each breath you take glorifies him; your sleep is worship, your deeds are accepted and your supplications are answered. So, ask Allah, your Lord; to give you a sound body and an enlightened heart so you may be able to fast and recite his book, for only he is unhappy who is devoid of Allah’s forgiveness during this great month. Remember the hunger and thirst of the day of Qiyamah (Judgement) with your hunger and thirst; give alms to the needy and poor, honor your old, show kindness to the young ones, maintain relations with your blood relations; guard your tongues, close your eyes to that which is not permissible for your sight, close your ears to that which is forbidden to hear, show compassion to the orphans of people so compassion may be shown to your orphans. Repent to Allah for your sins and raise your hands in dua during these times, for they are the best of times and Allah looks towards his creatures with kindness, replying to them during the hours and granting their needs if he is asked...

"O People! Indeed your souls are dependant on your deeds, free it with Istighfar (repentance) lighten its loads by long prostrations; and know that Allah swears by his might: That there is no punishment for the one who prays and prostrates and he shall have no fear of the fire on the day when man stands before the Lord of the worlds.

"O People! One who gives Iftaar to a fasting person during this month will be like one who has freed someone and his past sins will be forgiven.

Some of the people who were there then asked the Prophet (s): "Not all of us are able to invite those who are fasting?"

The Prophet (s) replied: "Allah gives this reward even if the Iftaar (meal) is a drink of water."

"One who has good morals (Akhlaq) during this month will be able to pass the ‘Siraat’...on the day that feet will slip...

"One who covers the faults of others will benefit in that Allah will curb His anger on the day of Judgement...

"As for one who honors an orphan; Allah will honor him on the day of judgement,

"And for the one who spreads his kindness, Allah will spread His mercy over him on the day of Judgement.

"As for the one who cuts the ties of relation; Allah will cut His mercy from him...

"Who so ever performs a recommended prayer in this month Allah will keep the fire of Hell away from him...

"Whoever performs an obligator prayer Allah will reward him with seventy prayers [worth] in this month.

"And who so ever prays a lot during this month will have his load lightened on the day of measure.

"He who recites one verse of the holy Quran will be given the rewards of reciting the hole Qur’an during other months.

"O People! Indeed during this month the doors of heaven are open, therefore ask Allah not to close them for you; The doors of hell are closed, so ask Allah to keep them closed for you. During this month Shaytan (Saten) is imprisoned so ask your Lord not to let him have power over you."

Salaams,

A Quick Checklist for the month of Ramathan:

Quote

1. Make a resolve to win the maximum favor of Allah by performing extra Voluntary prayers (Nawaafil), making frequent Du'a and increased remembrance (Dhikr).

2. Try to recite some Qur’an after every Prayer. In fact if you read 3-4 pages after every Prayer you can easily finish the entire Qur’an in Ramadan!

3. Study the Tafseer (commentary) every morning.

4. Invite a person you are not very close with or your relatives to your home for Iftar, at least once a week. You will notice the blessings in your relationships!

5. Bring life to your family! Everyday, try to conclude the fast with your family and spend some quality time together to understand each other better.

6. Give gifts on Eid to at least 5 people: two to your family members, two to your good friends, and one to a person whom you love purely for the sake of Allah.

7. Make commitment to join Islamic study circles to learn more about Islam and improve your own life.

8. Donate generously to the masajid, Islamic organizations, and any where people are in need or oppressed. "This is a month of sharing!"

9. Share Ramadan and its teachings of peace & patience with your neighbors.

10. Sleep little, eat little! Make sure you do not defeat the purpose of fasting by over-indulging in food and being lazy.

11. Seek the rare and oft-neglected rewards of 'the night better than a 1000 months (Laylatul-Qadr).

12. Weep in private for the forgiveness of your sins: It is the month of forgiveness and Allah's Mercy! It's never too late.

13. Learn to control your tongue and lower your gaze. Remember the Prophet's warning that lying, backbiting, and a lustful gaze all violate the fast!

14. Encourage others to enjoin and love goodness, and to abandon everything that Allah dislikes. Play the role of a Da'ee (one who invites to Allah) with zeal, passion, and sympathy.

15. Experience the joy of Tahajjud prayers late at night and devote yourself purely and fully to Allah in the I'tikaf retreat during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

Remember: "Time is not money or gold; it is life itself and is limited. You must begin to appreciate every moment of your life and always strive to make the best use of it." - Khurram Murad

Dua Amaan

My God, thy protection, thy protection: on the day when they can neither delay (the event) by a single moment, nor can they hasten it (death)

My God, Thy protection, thy protection; at the time of the parting of the soul from the body and in the presence of death.

My God, Thy protection, Thy protection; at the time of the narration (of our sins) and at the time of our tarrying in front of thee.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; from the dread of doom and its severity.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; When mankind shall swarm like moths (resurrection of mankind)

My God, thy protection, thy protection; On the day when mankind shall stand before thee, Lord of the worlds.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; on the day when some faces will be bright and some faces will be black.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; When man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his wife, and his children; for everyone of them they shall be in such anxiety for his own self as will make him oblivious of all other things.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; On the day when the angels and the spirit shall stand to order, lined up, and none shall be able speak, except those whom the all-merciful shall permit, and they shall say only what is proper.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; on the day when man shall see what his hands have sent before him, and the disbeliever shall say :Would that I were dust.”

My God, thy protection, thy protection; on the day the duration whereof is equal to fifty thousand years.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; on the day when the sinner would wish that he could ransom himself from the torment of that day by substituting for himself his son, or wife, or brother, or the kindred with whom he passed his life, or all the inhabitants of the earth put together, and thus save himself. But no! Verily it is a flaming fire, and it will scorch the skin.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; one the day when the earthquake will shake the earth, and its sequel (another earthquake) shall follow it. Hearts on that day shall palpitate, and eyes shall be down-caste.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; on the day when the angels shall say: There is no good news today for the sinners”. And “Be gone, away with you.”

My God, thy protection, thy protection; on the day when the wrongdoer shall bite his own hands and say “Ah! Would that I had chosen a way of life with the prophet; also for me! Ah! Would that I had not taken so and so for a friend.

My God, thy protection, thy protection; On the day when neither wealth nor sons shall avail any man, except one who comes to God with a pure heart by Thy mercy, O most Merciful of all.

There is no God except Allah, who is present at all times. There is no God except Allah, who is worshipped in every place. There is no God except Allah, who is known by His Kindness. There is no God except Allah.

Thy protection, Thy protection. O eternally Good, O Anciently Kind, O guide of those who go astray. Thee alone we worship and Thee alone we ask for help. O Forgiver, O All (forgiving). By Thy mercy, O most merciful of all: Bless Mohammed and his progeny, all of them.

Preparing for Ramadan, Becoming true Shias

Imam Mohammad al-Baqir (as) once said to one of his companions: "O Jabir, it is not enough that a person says: 'I am a Shia and I love the Prophet (pbuh) and the Prophet's family and the Imams'.

"By Allah, a Shia is the one who is perfectly pious and obedient to Allah's commands. Anyone else is not a Shia no matter how much they say they love Ali (as) and no matter what they call themselves.

O Jabir, our Shias are known by these signs:

(a) They are truthful, trustworthy and loyal;
(B) They always remember Allah;
© They offer their prayers, observe fasts, and recite the Qur'an;
(d) They act nicely towards their parents;
(e) They help their neighbors, take care of orphans, and say nothing but good of people;
(f) They are worthy of peoples trust and confidence.

Jabir was listening attentively. When the Imam (as) finished, he said: "O son of the Prophet (pbuh), among the Muslims there are very few who possess these qualities".

The Imam replied: "Allah forbid, do you imagine that just to claim to love us is enough to be a Shia? No not at all. A person who says I love Ali (as) but doesn't follow Ali (as) in his actions is not the Shia of Ali (as). Similarly, if a person says I love the Prophet (pbuh) but doesn't follow the actions of the Prophet (pbuh), his claim will be of no use to him!

"O Jabir, our real friends and Shias are obedient to the commands of Allah, and everyone who is disobedient to Allah is our enemy. O Jabir, Always be pious and chaste, and perform good deeds so as to enjoy the blessings of the Paradise. Know that the best and most honorable before Allah are the pious and the chaste".

Similarly, the one who fasts but does not reform himself to be a true Shia, the fasting has definitely not helped him. Let us prepare for Ramadan. Let us be true Shias.

INVITATION:

This is an announcement from the Emperor of Emperors, King of Kings and the One who is in supreme control of the universe.

All believers are invited to be the guests of Allah during the holy month of Ramadan. Allah invites them to a Divine feast and gives them glad tidings of blessings and forgiveness.

This invitation is to tell you how much the Lord loves you and wants you to be close to Him. He has invited you to remember Him so He may remember you, to ask from Him so He may grant you. He wants you to rid yourself of the burden of sins so that you may be lighter when you return to Him.

He has prepared for you special gifts and rewards and store for you special robes. He has asked you to seek Him so that you can be from among His friends. Such a royal invitation must be accepted with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. Preparation must be made to attend the royal feast in an appropriate manner.

What Does Ramadan Mean to our Children? by Abdul Hamid Lachproria

What does Ramadan mean to our children? What wonderful benefits
do our children get from Ramadan? Like sponges they may only be
listening to the long list of "exciting" foods we are going to cook
and whom we are going to invite.

Sending greeting cards and e-mail invitations. Of course on the
top of the list is "What am I going to get for Eid?" Sounds
familiar? Food, people, cards and presents? It sounds what
Christians have turned their holidays into, doesn't it? This is
scary because it is as though we have turned out imitating those
around us which Allah and His Prophet (May Allah's Peace and
Blessings be upon him) has warned us about.

Allah, Most High, says, "Whoever contends with the Messenger
after guidance has become clear for him, and follows other than the
way of the believers, We shall leave him to it and land him in
Jahannam, what an evil refuge." (Holy Qur'an, 4:115)

It is so easy for us to fall into the traps of materialism and
commercialism. It seems now that we are worshiping this world more
than ever before. Many are loosing the benefits of Islam that gives
us peace and tranquility.

Allah, Most High, says, "If anyone desires anything other than
Islam as a religion, it will not be accepted from him, and in the
Hereafter he will be among the losers." (Holy Qur'an, 3: 85)

Our Ummah (nation) is becoming more and more like the rest of the
world. It is hard sometimes even to distinguish between Muslims and
non-Muslims in looks, actions and manners. With Satellite the
melting pot is growing faster and faster. We believe the "almighty"
TV is telling us who we should be if we want to be "somebody". We
are loosing our Islamic identification at an alarming rate.

We are looking for answers for our anxieties through so- called "modern"
innovations. But we will never achieve any true peace unless we truly
believe that Islam has the answers to every single problem that afflicts
the human race. Allah, Most High, says, "Do they then seek the judgment
of the Time of Ignorance? Who could be better at giving judgment than Allah
for people with certainty? (Holy Qur'an, 5: 50)

What can we do for our children to help them benefit from
Ramadan? We need to show them that Ramadan is one of the most
important months of the year. Not because their taste buds will be
tantalized, but because we gain something from our worship.

We plan months in advance for weddings, graduations etc. We
insure that when our boss asks us for a presentation we do our best.
Staying up late at night, checking the minute details on a Power
Point Presentation. But what do we do to prepare ourselves for
Ramadan? Buying extra food, children handing in Eid "wish lists",
crossing off names on our Iftar invite list because they didn't
invite us for Iftar last Ramadan? Going through our cookbooks to
find new exciting recipes? Is this what Ramadan has come to?

In the Qur'an, Allah tells us the situation of those people who
are accustomed to think superficially:

"They know an outward aspect of the life of this world but are
heedless of the hereafter. Have they not reflected within
themselves? Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and
everything between them except with truth and for a fixed term. Yet
many people reject the meeting with their Lord."

(Holy Qur'an, 30: 7- 8)

Will we then follow the mental numbness of the majority? Going
through empty rituals that have no benefit?

"Those are who have lost their ownselves. What they invented has
abandoned them. Without question, they will be the greatest losers
in the Hereafter. As for those who believe and do right actions and
humble themselves before their Lord, they are the Companions of the
Paradise, remaining in it timelessly, forever. The likeness of the
two groups is that of the blind and deaf and the seeing and hearing.
Are they the same as one another? So will you not pay heed?"

(Holy Qur'an, 21-24)

We need to take a fresh look at this Ramadan for ourselves and
our children. We must ask Allah to cleanse our hearts and minds so
that we may gain the full benefit of Ramadan. Our children need to
see that it isn't only the stomach that fasts, but it is our hearts,
ears, and eyes too.

We need to work on this before it is too late, and the trumpet is
blown: "The stupor of death will come in truth. (And it is said unto
him): "That is what you were trying to evade! The trumpet is blown.
That is the day of the threat." (Holy Qur'an, 50:19-20)

Or do we fear what the people will say; have we conditioned our
children to be followers and slaves of this world? Have we forgotten
the lessons from the Qur'an and our Prophet? Have we put the Qur'an
and Sunnah in a dusty shelf believing that it has no relevance in
our "modern" day lives? Have we really became so detached and out of
touch from our Creator?

"Like those before you who had greater strength than you and more
wealth and children. They enjoyed their portion; so enjoy your
portion as those before you enjoyed theirs. You have plunged into
defamation as they plunged into it. The actions of such people come
to nothing in this world or the hereafter. They are the lost."

(Holy Qur'an,9:69).

All praise belongs to Almighty Allah Most Exalted and Merciful, the resplendent
life-giving sun of Islam has began to quicken the hearts and souls of human beings
with its warmth and many Muslim people have started their struggle against the
obstacles responsible for the separation of people from the Din of Almighty Allah
Rabbul Ala'meen and for the realization of Islam in their lives. Alhumdoelillah! This
blessed and promising movement is one which, with the help of our Most Exalted
Creator and Sustainer, will break the chains of every rebellious power, and deliver
all of mankind as promised in verse 21 of Surah Al-Mujadila:

"Allah has decreed: I will surely triumph, I an My apostles."

And Almighty Allah knows best.

Enlightening Quotes About The Holy Month of Ramadhan

Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) said:

"Whoever backbites his Muslim brothers, his fasting will be invalid and his ablution null. Should he die in such a state, he will die like the one who decreed lawful what Allah has forbidden."

Imam Ali, Ameer al Mu'mineen (a.s.) quotes the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) for saying:

"Whoever fasts during the month of Ramadhan out of faith and seeking Allah's pleasure and guards his ears, eyes and tongue from harming people, Allah will accept his fasting, forgive his past sins. . ."

Imam Muhammad al Baqir (a.s.) said to Jabir ibn Abdullah:

"O Jabir, whoever, fasts the days of Ramadhan, stands for prayers in parts of its nights, guards his/her sexual desires, reins in his/her tongue, lowers his/her gaze and injures, not the feelings of others, will become free of sins as on the day he/she was born."

Imam Jafar al Sadiq (a.s.) said:

"If a fasting person when abused, replies peace be upon you I will not abuse as you do, the Lord, the Exalted and Most High says, By fasting, My servant has saved himself from the evil of My other servant, I grant him refuge against the fire."

Imam Jafar al Sadiq (a.s.) says:

"When you fast, guard your hearing and sight against the forbidden, and your limbs and all other organs from the vile. Do not rave at or injure a servant. Be dignified as a fasting person should, and keep silent and calm, except when remembering Allah. Do not regard your fasting day as an ordinary day and refrain from intercourse, kissing and loud laughter, because Allah dislikes that."

Imam Jafar al Sadiq (a.s.) said:

"Allah made fasting incumbent to make equity between the rich and the poor. A rich man does not feel the pains of hunger to have mercy for the poor, since he is able to obtain whatever he likes. (By enjoining fasting) Allah wanted to put His creatures on an equal footing by making the rich taste the pain of hunger, so that he may pity the weak and have mercy on the hungry. . ."

Imam Ali al Reza (a.s.) said:

"O people, anybody who in this month cultivates good manners will walk over the Sirat (bridge to Paradise) on the day when feet will tend to slip. . ."

Wassalam

1.) The most important consideration in undertaking a fast, as in any act of devotion, is to seek nearness to God, and seek His pleasure and Forgiveness. This itself generates a spirit of piety in man.

2.) Creating the conditions of hunger and thirst for oneself, simply in obedience to the Divine order, measures the faith of man in God and helps strengthen it by putting it to a severe test.

3.) Fasting enhances through creation of artificial non-availability, the value of the bounties of God which man often takes for granted. This inculcates in man a spirit of gratitude and consequent devotion to God. Nothing else can bring home to a man the worth of God's bounties than a glass of water and a square meal after a day long fast. This also reminds man that the real joy in enjoying God's bounties lies in moderation and restraint and not in over indulging.

4.) Fasting makes us deeply conscious of the pangs of hunger and discomfort suffered by the less fortunate among our brethren. They have to put up with difficult conditions all through their lives. It thus kindles in man a spirit of sacrifice leading to change towards his suffering brethren.

5.) Fasting gives man an unfailing training in endurance, a spirit of acceptance. This could well prepare him to put up with the unchangeable situations in life in the same spirit of resignation as cultivated during the fasts.

6.) Fasting develops courage, fortitude, and a fighting spirit in man to surmount the heavy odds in life with a cool and tranquil mind. It sharpens his power of concentration to overcome obstacles through a vigorous exercise all throughout the month, leading to a steeling of his will power and resolve, that could help him in challenging situations in life. It is seen than many an undesirable habit which is difficult to give up, is more easily given up during the days of fasting.

7.) Fasting teaches man reliance on God, and confidence in Him. Just as the vigorous state of fasting for a whole month is undertaken with His assistance, bitter situations in life could also be surmounted with His help.

8.) Fasting develops a spirit of patience in man, with the realization that the days of fasting, though seemingly unending, do have a successful and happy end. Thus is life. All bitter situations pass, and come to an end.

10.) Fasting is meant to conquer anger and develop self-control in man. The vigorous effort required to put up with hunger and thirst can well be extended to conquer other infirmities of human character that lead man into error and sin.
Fasting inculcates a spirit of tolerance in man to face unpleasant conditions and situations without making his fellow beings the victim of his wrath. Many people, when facing discomfort and deprivation, become irritable and annoyed. This anger is then vented on those around them. Fasting helps a man become more tolerant despite his own discomfort.

11.) Fasting mellows a man and enhances his character, giving a jolt to the human instincts of pride, haughtiness, jealousy and ambition. Fasting softens his character, and clears his heart and mind of many negative emotions.

12.) Fasting exposes the weakness of man in the event of his being deprived of two basic bounties of God; food and drink. It infuses into him a spirit of weakness and submission, generating humility and prayer in an otherwise arrogant being.

13.) Fasting breathes the spirit of forgiveness in man towards others, as he seeks God's forgiveness through fasts and prayers.

14.) Fasting gives lessons in punctuality. Man has to adhere to a strict schedule of time in the observance of the fast.

15.) Fasting could affect the economy of the individual as he is less wasteful on food and meals.

16.) Fasting demands a rigid sense of discipline, mental, spiritual and physical. This forms characteristics which are an essential ingredient to success in life.

17.) Fasting creates spiritual reformation in man, infusing him with a spirit of enthusiasm and zest to change and become a better human being in the eyes of God. This is an excellent opportunity, given to believers each year, to change themselves and consequently their destinies.

18.) On the physical side, fasting cleanses the human system of the accumulated impurities of uninterrupted eating throughout the year. It prepares the body to face diseases or conditions of scarcity. The rigid abstinence of a fast regulates man's health, sharpens his intellect and enhances the qualities of his heart.

Fasting is thus a bounty in itself, encompassing within itself many bounties. It instills a spirit of reformation in man, creating a wide awakening in him to fulfil his duties towards God and man, and towards himself.

The Sermon Given By The Prophet (s) On The Last Friday Of Sha'ban On The Reception Of The Month of Ramadhan

Fe aman Allah
In my life I experienced various visions that can only be explained in terms of inspirational flashes of light that appeared before me at times when I felt I lost everything including myself; or rather especially myself.

Life it seems has many unopened doors left to venture through but our fear and ignorance holds us back.

I often dream of what could be awaiting me behind those doors but unless I make the effort to find the keys to unlock them I’ll never even come close to seeing what lies inside. Waiting for me to find it and bask in all it's glory and wonder.

How then do I even begin to look for these keys? Where do I start?

That, in itself, needs exploration and the more I try to find the beginning of this journey the farther away I feel from ever reaching it. I feel that these answers can’t be answered while I trap myself in this reality and fear escaping to what is real. Until I truly begin to live I can’t be assured the reward I seek now.

If I wait till then, then I may never reach the state of realness. Rather I’d have found the wonderments of this reality and lost the wonderments of the other. Therefore I must find a way to at least look through the keyhole and at least experience in it's minimalism what lies behind those doors.

Surely this is better than nothing at all?

This can then only ensure my chance of a taste of the other reality to be experienced by us all.

Whoever recites suras Ankabut and Rum on the 23rd night of Ramadhan will certainly be among the people of Paradise without any exception . . . and surely these two suras have a high position with Allah.

Imam Ja'far asSadiq (a)

Recitation of Sura alAnkabut with understanding brings about an increase in faith and sincerity in actions. These two effects of the sura have an impact on a believer's life and help make him/her steadfast on the path of Allah.

Thoughts for Shahr Ramadhan

Posted Image

Rasool pbuh tells us shaytan is locked up in shahr ramadhan.

Quote

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) said:

Surely, over every recalcitrant Satan, Allah has appointed seven angels (to fetter hit), and he shall not be released till this month of yours (month of Ramadhan) passes away.

If something evil happens, it's cause of us (our souls).

Quote

[4:79] Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is from Allah; but whatever evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul, and We have sent thee as a messenger to (instruct) mankind. And enough is Allah for a witness.

With this in mind, and on this basis, we can test ourselves and test others, placing a baseline type measurement of shortfalls in a person and getting a fair idea about them, their thought processes, behaviour and manners. Let us say for example, a swear word is spoken; this swear word isn't from waswasitil shaytan (whispering of shaytan), but from illness of ones soul "but whatever evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul".

Rasool pbuh calls shahr ramadhan "shahrul ummah" The month of the islamic community.

Quote

[2:185] "Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful."

Muslims are supposed to be one ummah, united.

Quote

[23:52] "And surely this ummah (community) of yours is one ummah, and I am your Lord, and be dutiful to Me."

therefore

Quote

[49:10] "The believers are naught else than brothers. Therefore make peace between your brethren and observe your duty to Allah that haply ye may obtain mercy."

Such an etiquette of this holy month for the ummah is only one segment of a full picture based on akhlaaq (manners and behaviour)

Quote

Rasool pbuh - "The most complete in faith among the believers is he who has the best manners."

Imam Musa al-Kadhim (as) - "The generous and the well-mannered are always under the protection of Allah. Allah does not abandon them but leads them to Paradise. Allah, Glory be to Him, did not send a prophet or a successor save a generous one; nor was there a righteous man who was not generous. Up to the day that he died, my Father commanded me to be generous."

Imam Ali (as) "Habituate yourself to magnanimity, and choose for yourself the most excellent of all etiquettes, for virtuous behaviour is a habit. Avoid the most low of all etiquettes, and struggle with yourself to avoid it, for evil is stubborn."

A man was once fasting, and he shouted at his wife in front of the Rasool pbuh, Rasool pbuh gave him a date and told him to break his fast. Fasting isn't just restraint of eating (one could call syem al-asghar (the smaller fasting)), but restraint of doing all things haram/makrooh (syem al akbar (the bigger fasting)), all things which beget ghadabAllah (anger/displeasure of Allah (swt)), e.g. backbiting, uncontrolled anger, lack of patience, greed, ill conduct with family/friends/neighbours/relationships, etc.

Thus we have du3a's special for shahr ramadhan such as du3a' makaarumul Akhlaaq

http://www.duas.org/makhlaaq.htm
http://media.shiacha...m_al_akhlaq.ram

Such are discussed here, (e.g. chapter 3)
http://www.al-islam.org/suluk/

As one sits down for food/water, just keep in mind, will all muslims have the chance to eat/drink/shelter what you're having? Karbala?

You people don't really believe in all this nonsense about a "god" and "heaven" do you??? You can't be that gullible! The sooner you give up religion, the better; I look forward to that day.

There is no answer  more stronger than God's word to you:

[Shakir 18:102] What! do then those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants to be guardians besides Me? Surely We have prepared hell for the entertainment of the unbelievers.

Shakir 18:103] Say: Shall We inform you of the greatest losers in (their) deeds?

[Shakir 18:104] (These are) they whose labor is lost in this world's life and they think that they are well versed in skill of the work of hands.

[Shakir 18:105] These are they who disbelieve in the communications of their Lord and His meeting, so their deeds become null, and therefore We will not set up a balance for them on the day of resurrection.

Shakir 18:106] Thus it is that their recompense is hell, because they disbelieved and held My communications and My messengers in mockery.

[Shakir 18:107] Surely (as for) those who believe and do good deeds, their place of entertainment shall be the gardens of paradise,

[Shakir 18:108] Abiding therein; they shall not desire removal from them.

Now ..you can't be that gullible!!!!!!!!   can you?

Salam Alaykum,

From amongst the advice of our beloved Prophet Mohammad (pbuhim) to the commander of the faithful, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) for the blessed month of Ramathan:

Quote

I advise you not to sleep before performing 5 things:

1- Reciting the Whole Quran.
2- Giving a charity of 4000 Dirhams.
3- Visiting the Ka`ba.
4- Protecting your status in Paradise.
5- Pleasing your Opponents.

Imam Ali (as) inquired, 'How Oh Messenger of Allah!?'

The Prophet (pbuhim) explained:

1- Did you not know that reading Surat al-Ikhlaas (Surah #112) 3 times then you've recited the Whole Quran.

2- If you recite Surat al-Fatiha (Surah #1) 4 times then you've given a charity of 4000 Dirhams.

3- If you recite " Laa ilaaha illa Allah Wahdahu Laa Shareeka Lah, Lahul Mulku wa Lahlul Hamd, Yuhyi wa Yumeet wa Huwa `Ala Kulli Shay`in Qadeer" 10 times then you've visited the Ka`ba.

4- If you recite " La Hawla Wala Quwwata illa Bilaah al-`Ali al-`Atheem" 10 times then you have protected your status in Paradise.

5- And if you recite " Astagfirullah al-`Atheem Al-Lathi Laa ilaaha illa Huwa al-Hay al-Qayyum wa Atubu ilayh" 10 times you would have pleased your Opponents.
I got this from another website and I just thought I'd share it here, everything mentioned is quite easy and with great reward. Strive hard in God's way, so He can see your work and continue to cover you with His mercy, forgiveness, bounties and blessings, InshAllah.

Remember me in your prayers,
Wasalaam :)
