(salam)

It is forbidden in Islam for men to immitate men and women to immitate men.  This includes their clothing and hair styles as well.  If a woman cuts her hair in a style that is exclusively worn by men, then she would be immitating men.

Isn't that only with the intention of imitation of the opposite gender?  Many women cut their hair extra short, or even shave it all off.. sometimes without the necessity to.  Anyone have a ruling?  I remember reading that it was permissible, as long as the intention is not to imitate men.

It would depend on the society and the perceptions of the society.  If in the particular society, that type of hair cut is not just for men, then it's not a problem.  If it is just for men, then it is a problem.  It's more of an "urf" issue than an intention issue.

There is nothing against a woman cutting her hair.  The only thing is that you shouldn't cut it in a style that is exclusively for men.

actually I posted past tense, my hair is a different length now. and really, men do know the difference between short and long hair, even sometimes under hijab, as itt's not hard to tell when a sister has her hair in a bun or pony tail, that extra bump back there is telltale sign that the sister has longer hair.

The easiest thing to do is just tie it in a low bun.

my bangs always come out from under my hijab now, since i cant find my bandanas. so annoying :(
Someone picked up the head of Hussain: "These lips that kissed The Prophet now kiss the dust."

"Sometimes you find requests are not immediately granted. Do not be disappointed. Fulfillment of desires rest in the true purpose or intention of the prayer. More often fulfillment is delayed because merciful Lord wants to bestow upon you suitable rewards. In the meantime bear patiently hardships, believing sincerely in His help. You will get better favours, because, unknowingly you may ask for things which are really harmful to you. Many of your requests, if granted, may bring eternal damnation. So at times, withholding fulfillment is a blessing in disguise."
