... it is. Especially during prayer. But I'm sure you cover it, so it should be ok. However, since you had the tattoo before you were Muslim, I'm not sure what the exact ruling is - ask your marjaa.

i ask again ...who are people trying to impress by getting tatoos...wearing chains...with their pants down below sea level...and bandannas, and earrings....y do dey think ther so kool

i mean who are you trying to impress

Most people do wear it to impress others, but there is alot who are forced to dress like that. Face it, if you live in the South Bronx (ghetto area) and you don't dress like that you're getting mugged.

*Sigh* Would you mind giving the reference of the fatwa if there is one? I want to know an official answer insha Allah.

The question is: Is it haram to have a tattoo with animal picture?

Fii amanillah.

Ayatullah Sistani.

If there is a difference of opinion among scholars could you tell in what way they differ?

Also if I could check it from some authentic source mention the reference insha Allah. :)

My question can't be that difficult to answer with references...

Just to make sure for everyone: I'm not looking for a debate but a simple answer which I can trust. That's the reason why I ask the reference to any leading ayatullah because none of us here on ShiaChat is ayatullah, I guess...

This is off topic but does anyone know a better place than ShiaChat to ask these things. Don't say, ask the office of your marja. It takes far too long time for them to answer me. So if someone has an answer, thank you very much and if not... then not.

I haven't had time to find the source for you. I would suggest emailing Ayatullah Sistani's office telling them your situation. I don't see anything wrong with you praying if you have your tattoo covered, and I think it's makrooh and not haram. Maybe sister Wilayah could be of better assistance.

Thanks W. I have a question though. Nothing to do with Tattoos but are rulings different when it comes to what you wear during Salah between the Maraja? And bringing it back to tattoos (especially for men) is a tattoo something you "wear?"

I was told (maybe even read) that wearing shirts with imprints of human or animal figures is Makrooh in Salah and that it should be covered. Is this the case?

You don't wear a tattoo. The tattoo is something that becomes part of you. Like your hair.

Here's stistani's answers

[attachment=15558:attachment]
[attachment=15559:attachment]

Just to remove any doubts, i included two answers. I had more but i cannot find them.

Thank you, sister wilayah. :) From where you copy the answer? If you got it by email do you have a picture of the answer with the logo of Sistani's office. I should forward it...

Sorry to make it too difficult...

The rulings on animals/sculptures, and wearing black are only 'abominations' for a salat dress, and do not invalidate the prayer.
I check out Sayeds khamanei and Khomeinis resalahs but couldnt find the same about black dress and animal prints. Other than that, the ruling about dress are basically the same. The obligations that is. The dress has to be clean, cover what needs to be covered, silk and gold for men, that it is purchased with halal money etc...

Umali12 might be able to help in that matter.

(bismillah)  (salam)

It seems to be a lot of opinions flying around here.

A picture clearly does not invalidate your prayer.

Pictures are makrooh to be where one prays (all the walls, the body, covered or uncovered- it does not matter).

Tattoos are halal. We don't make halal things haram because we don't like them.

Islam is such a beautiful thing where in each person is entitled to his/her own style and culture. If it includes wearing baggy pants, loose pants, so be it. Some people say it came from the style in prison (the clothes were baggy and often the wrong size), but perhaps, it is from African style after all, I know west Africans wear huge baggy shirts and pants. I don't thikn its any issue of impressing. It is what  you see people around you wear it and is that particular community's norm. Now, when a white boy (except those that also live in the ghetto) it is usually because he just wants to be like the new HIP-HOP music industry hype and all "ghetto fabulous."

(bismillah)

Just to make things clear, as mentioned, opinions are flying left - right - centre.

according to sayed sistani  @) :

1. Tattoos are halal.
2. Tattoos with the name of Allah are halal.
3. Tattoos do not invalidate wudu.
4. Tattoos do not invalidate ghusul.
5. There is no evidence that tattoos are makruh.

Now onto my argument, a tattoo becomes part of you. You're not actually wearing it, just like if i were to stitch on a 3rd arm and let it heal, it becomes part of you.. So its not like a shirt, where if you have a picture, its makruh.
