Salams,

A couple years ago I had tested my vitamin D level. The results, low vitamin D level , so I started to take vitamin D supplements.  At the time I was not wearing hijab and I was enough outside. I still take the vitamin D supplements...

well alhamdulillah my vitamin d levels are fine.
maybe hijabis who are covered from head to toe should just sit by a window one day and let the sun stream down on 'em, or just eat fish all day :)
Someone picked up the head of Hussain: "These lips that kissed The Prophet now kiss the dust."

"Sometimes you find requests are not immediately granted. Do not be disappointed. Fulfillment of desires rest in the true purpose or intention of the prayer. More often fulfillment is delayed because merciful Lord wants to bestow upon you suitable rewards. In the meantime bear patiently hardships, believing sincerely in His help. You will get better favours, because, unknowingly you may ask for things which are really harmful to you. Many of your requests, if granted, may bring eternal damnation. So at times, withholding fulfillment is a blessing in disguise."

The glass in the window filters out certain portions of the light, more specifically the part of the UV light (UVB) needed to make vitamin D. It actually filters out something like 90% of this, probably a better idea to go outside.

Actually, no. I am vitamin D deficient and was told by my doc its because i cover myself too much- even though i probably show slightly more skin than just hands and face. According to my doctor, the area i expose to sun is not significant at all!

Hands and face should be sufficient. Where do you live? How often do you go out?

let me add my 2 cents worth.

i know asians have a dislike of black skin and prefer fairer skin.   so are non whites getting vitamin D deficiency due to not wanting to go into the sun because they dont want to get tanned skin ?
it is noteworthy dont you think?
i hope I havent offended asians by saying this. because its a 2way street. us whites dont like our pale skin. we prefer the perpetual tan all non whites have  and as u know we pay good money to get tanned  to be like you. paying in the way of holidays,  tanning booths, fake tans etc
but just wanted to know whether you though that the vitamin D deficiency has got anything to do with fear of getting tanned  if they go in the sun for asian women?

Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?

Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

Judge not, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgement you judge,  you will be judged also; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

(bismillah)
(salam)

The sun damages the skin, so the fear is skin cancer. Some women cannot go into the sun without facial sunscreen, long sleeves, gloves and a hat. A minor problem is freckles, which looks cute on kids.

If freckles form on your upper lip, they can look gross, like a mustache.

Some prescription medicines have a warning label telling you to avoid sun exposure. The medications can increase your sensitivity to the sun, including side effects like rash, fever and feeling sick after only a few minutes.

Salams,
Bottom line is what a very knowledgeable physician told me. Vitamin D deficiency in the states is like an epidemic going on. He said he doesn't understand because even his wife who is also a physician is deficient. He said that taking supplements does not mean that it is being absorbed. So the onlyh way to know what your actual vitamin D leve is  is by blood test. he said that his wife takes it orally, eats yogurt, drinks milk and gets sunshine on her skin (absolutely necessary to convert the vitamin d so it can be used in the body) and she still gets deficient. Once a blood test shows up below normal or near normal and Vitamin D is taken orally (it can be taken up to 50,000 I.U. by prescription and this is sometimes the only way the deficiency gets  regulated)  tests still have to be run every  6 months or annually until the blood levels are well within normal range for some time. Deficiency tends to reoccur again and again.

Salams,
on the subject of wearing black... nice to see this brought up. I can look it up if anyone wants, but there is hadith that tells clearly that black was the color tha Firoun war.  ohhh yuck! Aso red is the favorite color of the shaytan according to Hadith!

REALLY PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ONE!
Salams sisters,
You may have already seen it on Oprah and several other programs that brough in independent testing agencies. They all agree that when one flushes the toilet and doesn't close the lid first, everything that is in the toilet flies around the room for a distance of 1-20 feet depending on the toilet etc.
So be sure to follow up to keep yourself clean for wuzdo... i mean are we really clean for wudzu if all that stuff sprayed all over our clothes etc?!!!
of course, don't forget the toothbrushes.. yuck!

Thats very interesting... Thought there are many studies done, Allah is best at cure and keeping one healthy. Following His rule for hijab is better and greater than the sun. InshaAllah Allah will help all His true servants. :Hijabi:
